Before the pandemic, we took many cruises including 10 on Windstar. While we also enjoyed sailing on other cruise lines, we choose Windstar mainly for dining and relaxing. We loved the elegance and size of the Star ships before the stretch. When we heard that the ships were being stretched, we wondered how it would change the ships. Would there be enough space to accommodate more passengers? ...
We chose this cruise because we have Finnish heritage. Unfortunately, because of the Ukraine war with Russia, Russia and Finland were removed from the itinerary. Bornholm was added, but was also removed, ostensibly because of bad weather (or pipeline sabotage)?
Sweden, Poland, Germany, and Norway were lovely and clean. We were happy to see the use of clean energy, high level of recycling, ...
First, this was NOT a one-week cruise. It was three one-week cruises strung together. Viking sold it as a single cruise from Athens to Barcelona. So this is my review of a 21 night cruise on Viking Sky.
It was interesting to me that when we got our post-cruise survey from Viking, they had everything listed by expectations. For instance, a question might say, "Food in the main dining room: A) ...
(Note: We were on the ship for 3 full weeks). I guess after so much hype from Viking commercials and message groups I was expecting to be amazed; especially compared to other cruise lines. 1) The ship: The ship is amazing/outstanding. We could always find a place to sit in the buffet / restaurant or a quiet place to relax. There are so many lounges, and they all have food and drink ...
Originally, we were booked on a Holland America Line (HAL) Alaska cruise with a Denali land extension. We have sailed HAL twice and enjoyed them. We have sailed Oceania many times also. But, when I spotted a Travelzoo deal for the same itinerary on Silversea Silver Shadow, we rebooked. Basically paid the same price as HAL but had the benefit of Silversea figuring out the air, transfers, all ...
For our first trip into unknown territory after Covid, we decided on a smaller river ship down the St. Lawrence Seaway. The PearlMist was the perfect size, about 100 rooms--every one of them with a balcony--and laid-back. We're not into a Las Vegas sized and style cruise. We much prefer a passenger experience that was manageable and comfortable. Pearl Mist provided it.
The good things about ...
We chose this cruise for Iceland and Greenland. Plus Canada.
We circumvented Iceland and saw some highlights however in hindsight we should have joined the pre land cruise to see blue lagoon and the loop road. The excursions were a long ride from the port and the ports were middle of no where….yes that’s Iceland.
The weather typical for region. Rain, winds then sun!

We selected this cruise because of the reduced price. It was a remarkable deal. It was our first Viking ocean cruise. We love the Viking river cruises and have taken several. We liked the size of the ship and the passenger capacity; as we prefer the smaller ships to the mega ships. The food was very good; in both the main dining room and the specialty restaurants. The shows were lackluster - ...
We cruise a lot and the Viking Sky is the prettiest ship we have experienced. Spacious and comfortable. The staff are wonderful.
The quality of food is good but not great. More than enough offers, but the quality was uneven. Several frequent Viking clients agreed with my assessment. The Italian specialty restaurant was anything but special. We cancelled several of our reservations and opted ...
My husband and I booked this cruise in order to visit the Great Lakes, and also to experience Viking's expedition ships.
It's a very physical and outdoorsy type of trip with opportunities to paddle kayaks, ride in a submarine, zodiac boats, or a very cool special operations boat.
If you have mobility issues or are hoping for a lazy cruise, this one is not for you. Only Mackinac Island is a ...
