We did the ferry ride to Mt. Sakurajima. It was very exciting to see an active volcano and the views were spectacular. Kagoshima is a beautiful, interesting clean port. Right next to the cruise terminal was a large clean park filled with locals picnicking, playing sports, running. It was nice just spending an hour walking around the large track there. We would have loved to spend time in downtown Kagoshima..it looked very interesting,clean and safe but we ran out of time. Read Less

There was a free shuttle from the ship to Sakurachima ferry terminal. We bought a transit pass that gave us access to the ferries to the volcano island and unlimited ride on public buses. We went on the island and took a public bus around ... Read More
There was a free shuttle from the ship to Sakurachima ferry terminal. We bought a transit pass that gave us access to the ferries to the volcano island and unlimited ride on public buses. We went on the island and took a public bus around the volcano for a view of the crater still spewing smoke. Read Less
