We did not take an excursion, and probably should have to do the island more justice, but we walked the town and tried to avoid the most crowded souvenir-shop-filled alleys and get a bit off the beaten path. I had worn my bathing suit under a sundress with the intent of getting into the water, but the beaches were on the other side of the island, so a quick dip from the rocky shore near a shore-side restaurant had to suffice. Next time, I would definitely want to go to one of the famed beaches. Read Less

Own tour - poor Corfu as so much rubbish on streets as a result of mayor taking their money! Beautiful beaches and great tour guide. Went for olive oil tasting - amazing!

Lovely little town to wander about in. Bit of a hot and noisy walk from the ship to the town, took about 40minutes. No shuttle available.

Immediately upon getting off the boat there are several speed boats waiting to take passengers. We did that and had a great time.

We rented a car ahead of time. Pick up was easy at the port. Do remember your passport, as they wouldn't rent it to us without it even though there wasn't anything in the instructions ahead of time. It was fun to explore the island. We prepared our itinerary ahead of time, which was good as road markings are poor and the GPS we rented was useless. We can't wait to spend more time in Corfu. We did the Hop on Bus and it was OK. If you can walk, the fortress is interesting to visit and the shopping is right there. We didn't venture out of the Old port area.

We got off the ship and took a taxi to the old town, not knowing there was a free bus since MSC tries to charge you 9 Euros a piece for their transportation to town. The town was very crowded since it was Good Friday in the Orthodox church and the hop on hop off bus was not running. We were lucky to see two Good Friday processions with bands. Read Less

CORFU: A different kid of Greek island. It was ruled by a lot of folks throughout the years. It is NOT whitewashed and feels more European. Here again MSC "nickel 'n dimed" us with a 9 euro/pp bus into town, but first you caught the free bus from the ship to the port exit. We decided to use a 10 euro taxi for 4 people. This took us right to a square where we entered the city and just walked around the alleys and byways. It was Orthodox Good Friday and the town was jammed with people watching and participating in the many parades that are sponsored by churches and organizations. Each had a band, singers, marchers (church goers, scouts, Navy people, etc) and someone carrying the cross and others the simulated remains of Christ..It was VERY interesting. We wandered, shopped and took a lot of pictures. Corfu is famous for its kumquat liquor--very tasty, but I was afraid I'd get a large bottle confiscated by MSC, so just bought a small souvenier bottle. Read Less
