My wife and I have cruised on many different lines and ships. This trip was our first with Holland America. The Nieuw Amsterdam is what I would call a moderate sized ship, especially when compared to the newer “mega ships”. We found the ship itself to be clean and for the most part, well run. We chose this cruise at the 2 months prior to embarkation. Got one of the last V3 cabins, but 5 weeks later got an offer from Seabourn to upgrade to a penthouse suite for $299 per person, Took it and loved the suite. It really added to the experience. Food was excellent (nice choice and variety). Service has excellent (stateroom stewards were amazing!). Thoroughly enjoyed how close the ship got to Hubbard Glacier. Also enjoyed the other ports of call. The Naturalist on the cruise was also amazing. Saw dolphins, whales, and sea lions from the ship - cool!

Price for a turnaround Alaskan cruise was really inexpensive. You see same ports but different glaciers. Obstructed ocean view cabin is clean and comfortable.
