Panama Canal

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Jewel of the Seas

We selected this cruise since we have always wanted to see the canal. We decided this time of the year to get away from cold and snow in Kansas and to give my wife a break from her cancer treatments. We also made the cruise to celebrate our 50th anniversary and both our 72nd birthdays. We found the cruise extremely interesting, enjoyable and relaxing which is what we were wanting. The Jewel is ...

Great Cruise with a few snags

My Husband and I cruised the Panama Canal from Acapulco to San Juan 25 years ago for our Silver Weeding Anniversary. So when # 50 was on the Horizon, we decided to do it again, this time in the other direction. Unfortunately my Husband got ill and could not go, but I found a friend who could travel with me, so all was not lost. Embarkation went without a snag and we were on board in less ...

Some disappointing changes since our last cruise

I am a frequent cruiser and usually choose Royal Caribbean. I am a Diamond member of Crown & Anchor. The 2018 Panama Canal cruise was disappointing compared to previous experiences on Royal Caribbean Boarding in Miami : out of 20+ cruises, this was the worst, most disorganized boarding process I’ve ever seen. First of all there was seating for less than 25 people in the shuttle waiting area at ...

LAX to San Juan, Puerto Rico via Panama Canal

I really like this ship as it offers lots of windows with many lounges and very comfortable seats. It only has one area for elevators but each one is glass so you view either the center of ship or the ocean. All our ports went smoothly except for Cabo San Lucas which was by tenders. It took about 2 hours to get off after the ship arrived due to very slow procedures. The ship really needs to ...

Our Panana Canal cruise was wonderful! A full 15 days with great ports, many sea days aboard a great ship with a fantastic crew. Leaving Los,angeles we went to two Mexican Ports, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo. Then on to Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, through the Canal then on to Colombia and ending in San Juan Puerto Rico. a great iteniary. The only disappointment was Royal Caribs new menu which ...

Tough Start but Overall Excellent Cruise

Review for a Pacific Coastal Cruise on Jewel of the Seas

This was my first cruise on RCL and only my second cruise overall so I'm fairly new to cruising. As previous reviewers stated, the embarkation situation was a bit of a nightmare. I booked transfers through RCL from the airport to the port and waited 3 hours at the airport before a bus arrived. Then it was another 2 hour wait inside the tents to check-in. My friend and I decided to just wait it out ...

First short repositioning cruise, the ups and downs.

It was an interesting trip. We flew into San Diego from Houston. We had booked our pre-cruise room at the Hilton San Diego Bay Hotel. We arrived a little bit after 12:00 pm. The Hotel looked nice from the outside. The lobby was spacious. The location was great. It was a short walk over the pedestrian bridge from PETCO Ball park. It was a short cab ride to the Cruise terminal. The Gas Light ...

Good, But Not Great

The following are some experiences and observations about our 5/16 California repositioning cruise on the Jewel of the Seas - sailing out of San Diego. We chose this cruise specifically for the itinerary, but we are also big fans of the RCL Radiance class ship. San Diego is a great departure port; taxi fares to almost anywhere in San Diego proper are very reasonable and cabs are easy to find. ...

This was our first cruise on RC and only our second cruise overall. We cruised from San Diego to Vancouver, BC, though we disembarked in Victoria to visit family. When we entered the cruise embarkation area, we were whisked around the long line-up to a counter where our check-in occurred quickly and efficiently. I presume that was because we were booked in a junior suite, but, regardless, it ...
