I chose this cruise because of the size of the ship and the destinations. I have always wanted to see the Great Lakes, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Mackinaw Island. This cruise combined all three. We had stops in Muskegon/
Holland, and Mackinac Island in Minnesota. Then headed to Canada. Sault Ste Marie, Parry Sound and Midland in Ontario. Then headed back to the US. We went to Detroit ( ...
My mom and I thought this would be a wonderful trip on a river cruise to Portugal, a place neither of us had ever been. The positive critique 1st, the cabin was nice and the food overall was a 4 out of 5. I found very little of it relaxing because we were always on a very strict schedule: rise early and go to the dining area to eat breakfast before getting on the bus for the daily excursions. ...
After sailing the Rhine river with Viking, we knew we would have to enjoy more Viking river cruises. We selected the Danube Waltz cruise and had an incredible time. Spending 3 days in Budapest prior to embarkation, then 3 days in Salzburg and 3 days in Munich after debarkation, the overall vacation was unforgettable! The accommodations abord the ship were luxurious, the staff was outstanding, the ...
We had not been to Portugal prior and were interested in learning about their wine industry. We found SO much more! The scenery, expert guides, the history. Our favorite tour by far was Marialva. The local guide was so involved in teaching us her rich history. A fabulous experience! But foremost in my thoughts was the wonderful attention of our crew. They made us feel welcome at all times. Special ...
We chose scenic because it was all inclusive. We found that the little things that make a 5 star was lacking.
First, the wifi was horrible. The TV stations options were poor. There are times on the trip that you actually do use the tv and WiFi, so zip it.
Dinner food was ok, we have had better meals on oceana and at specialty dining on the bigl ships. They fell short here.
The wine ...
This was our first Viking River cruise, so we decided to travel through the land of our ancestors, German Hungarian. We had heard that if we could only go on one trip, the Danube was the one to choose. We traveled with 2 daughters and their husbands. We all agreed that this was one of the best vacations we have ever had. We found the pace to be comfortable and entertaining. The meals were well ...
Great river cruise but made exceptionally so by the brilliant staff who couldn't do enough for us. The ship was spotless. We were spoilt by the staff who catered to our every whim. Alex was the Hotel Manager - he was the BEST!!! He looked after me (I'm vegan and partially disabled) and he gave me 5 star treatment every night. He treated everyone with a smile and courtesy and made us all feel ...
This cruise was our second on Avalon. The first was the Rhine which was spectacular- both industrial and the beauty of the castles along the Rhine. This cruise was more culture in nature and did not disappoint. The activities are diverse enough for everyone’s palate. However, what is outstanding is the service that you get on board. We are new to river cruising - but not ocean cruising. This is ...
Long time cruiser
This is my 2nd Viking Cruise - it’s easy to see why they are the number 1 rated Cruise ship in the world - luxurious finely appointed pointed, keen attention to every detail, one the best crews at every level, gourmet food at its finest, with impeccable service, small intimate experiences (150 or so people)— no children, no casinos , relaxation and daily off boats excursions ...
Our second cruise with Avalon following our Danube Cruise last July. This Rhine cruise was superb in every respect, great food, free cocktails during happy hour, friendly attentive staff. Vivien our Cruise director was exceptional, especially with organisation of daily trips and tours and our daily pre dinner trips. We especially appreciated the personal service and attention to detail. Little ...
