We never have been on a sea cruise and had experienced a river cruise through Viking. Several things drew us to our decision to use Viking. The river cruise we took in the Danube was incredible and we wanted to do a sea cruise. The size of the Viking cruise ships was a big factor, as we experience the size of our river cruise. Having a small number of passengers allowed us to meet several ...
I wanted to go on a small manageable ship which this was. The standard of food, cabins, cleaning and detailed information, was excellent.
I booked lots of excursions and enjoyed them, but in hindsight would have toured the towns without a guide, except for Trondheim, where the guide was useful.
I would have liked more time when we docked to have seen museums, but this was not always ...
The whole experience of this expedition voyage was absolutely wonderful. We chose the cruise mainly because we wanted to see the Northern Lights and we decided to go on the Astronomy tour, when there would be an astronomer on board. We have never travelled on a ship for so long, and for us this was a great voyage of adventure and not a run of the mill "cruise". It certainly surpassed our ...
Seeing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) were on our bucket list, and the Hurtigruten Norway Coastal Cruise with the Astronomy Cruise package seems to be just the right trip for us - staying close to the coastline, and stopping at many Norwegian towns and villages.
Hurtigruten made our trip comfortable and memorable. The embarkation and disembarkation process was well organized and very ...
Be absolutely clear that Hurtigruten is a ferry service and not a cruise line. We paid for a relaxing cruise but what we received was a passage on a working ship with very little customer care. Whilst we understand that the boat is a working boat, there is an expectation of a level of service commensurate with the cruise price and cabin level - however this is absolutely not the case. ...
I only had time for the 'half cruise' but enjoyed every minute. Nordlys is showing her age a little with some frayed carpets and furnishings in public areas but is shiny, clean and comfortable. She will be refitted later this year.
Embarkation in Kirkenes, northern turnaround port, took three minutes as my taxi took me directly to the gangplank. Buses from the airport and local hotels are also ...
To see auroras.
We saw auroras in 5 nights with changing colours n it was intense.
Dog sledding was fun.
Polar excursion was not fun for me.
But rest was excellent.
Restaurant staff was awesome.
They were funny , witty, friendly, approachable.
We made some good friends n met new people, they were good.
We went to see the northern lights and yes we did see them. It was ...
We went to enjoy a voyage on the grand old lady (MS Lofoten) of the Hurtigruten again. The combination of the ship, crew, food, fellow passengers, weather, scenery, excursions, and overall ambience would have been great even without five mind-wowing nights with Northern Lights displays.
The breakfast and lunch buffets were both full of different varieties of fish - at least seven different ...
Just returned from a 11 day Northern Lights voyage along the Norwegian coast to Kirkenes and back to Bergen - and it was mind blowing.
I've returned relaxed, pampered and looking to book another cruise - with Hurtigurten. Never will I grace Royal Caribbean, or Princess again
No casinos, no spas, no entertainment crews - it was education, relaxing and no hard sell.
Cabins were basic, ...
We were quite interested in seeing the Northern Lights in Norway but also wanted to see the way people lived in this country, which is colder and darker than our part of Canada in the winter. We also expected, based on a previous European river cruise with Viking, that the service aboard would be fantastic and the ground excursions would be interesting and educational.
On all fronts, we were ...
