This was our 3rd cruise...and was not a great experience. As usual, the staff were fantastic, and the ship was kept clean. However, the ship is very dated, with a broken atrium elevator (judging by the reviews, it has been broken for months now), with lots of ripped upholstery and broken items. I appreciate the staff keeping it clean at least, but it could use a major refitting. The constant nickel and diming seems to get getting worse as well. The shows are great (especially the 80s one), comedians were great, and the food was fine. Don't bother with the dining rooms, the staff are shortstaffed and overworked. I don't think the food is worth it to deal with that and preferred the buffets. We lost the Caymans port due to Tropical Storm Colin. That is not Carnival's fault, but it seems the Port of Tampa closes the port for just about anything, and left the port closed into midday the following day. It was sunny and calm for a few hours before they officially opened the port. Keep that in mind before departing from here. The Paradise left, and the cruise director came on and informed us we would do an overnight in Cozumel instead. We were scheduled to arrive at 6 pm at Cozumel. No problem...however, the ship had a "propulsion issue" and we ended up so late to Cozumel that we basically only had one day there. Unfortunately, Carnival did no compensation at all for the ship's propulsion problems that caused us to have a single port day on a 5 day cruise. We booked an excursion to Chichen Itza. I STRONGLY discourage booking it. It is too far, we left late, and you get a 5 minute bathroom break on the entire 8 hour tour. We also only got 20 minutes at Chichen Itza, and so we only saw about a quarter of the place. We stayed in a grand suite. The size was fantastic...came with a nice private balcony with 4 chairs. Also had a sectional sofa that rolls out to another queen bed. There is a minifridge, a tub (only tub I've ever had on a cruise ship!), a walkin closet, and 2 electrical outlets. The tub is also a jetted tub. The room was the highlight of the cruise. Overall, I would never cruise out of Tampa, would never cruise an older ship like the Paradise again, and can only hope the next cruising experience is far better. Read Less

Embarkation: Huge lines of passengers queued up (large amount of high school and college age). The process was slow and the staff was not kind. Treated like cattle. The ship: The Paradise is a very old boat and it shows. Many of the decorative features throughout were not functioning properly and showed the age of the boat. The cabin bathroom was ancient. There were no amenities other than two cakes of cheap soap and the generic wall pumps in the shower. The sink was supposed to have an old fashioned drain stopper on a chain. This had rusted off and left just the gaping hole on a big, old ugly sink. The bedding left me with low back pain and sciatica, probably because of the springs snapping and sticking into my spine all night. The window was nice despite the dirt and rust. There is no refrigerator or any type of amenities in the room. I had to ask for ice- which I must admit he kept replenished. I like the sheets on Carnival though. Activities: There were barely any activities for days at sea. When the DJ played music, it was horrible selections- and I'm not picky. Grand Cayman: Had to tender off for what was already a very short stay on the island. The Discover Scuba tour provided a good tour guide, however, it was like they never anticipated having cruise guests. There were no lockers for personal belongings, no photo opps, no showers, ..nothing. It was very strange. I liked the experience. It was just so strange that they had such a poor set up for a fairly pricey excursion. Cozumel: The Amazing Secret River was an excellent excursion. At the end, we had to take a ferry back to the ship. All passengers were instructed to be on time or miss the boat. Most everyone obeyed as instructed; however, we were kept hostage on the ferry for over an hour due to a "late" arriving tour. They should have brought us back to ship and came back for the stragglers rather than ruin the short time we had remaining in Cozumel. Instead, when we returned, we scurried to the cruise ship which was waiting for us. Cabin Steward: Very good and attentive R228 Dining Room: I was able to get a table for two after haggling at start of cruise,. I despise doing this. Why cant they just offer this up front. I prefer scheduled seating rather than "FreeStyle". Free Style means waiting. There was the usual hawking of jewelry and trinkets during the cruise. The ship has one little pool. Imaging? 2000 people and one little pool for two days at sea. I do not think I need to say more. Hot tubs: there were two and they were stuffed with little kids the whole time. Serenity has two adult only hot tubs and limited seating for adults only at rear of ship. Good luck finding space in that area. Overall, the ship is old and needs to either be retired or gutted. I knew I was going on an old boat. The dates met my needs. I would not take it again. Beware of the old boats. I like to smaller volume of passengers, but these boats have served their purpose over and over again. If these cruise lines are going to keep them in the fleet is is simply unfair to subject people to these poor quality accommodations. The whole Lido Deck pool scene is just a joke. Seriously, add a pool or more hot tubs. Create a place for kids to go. Provide some sort of adult pool. Do something... Read Less

I chose this cruise for the convenience of just driving downtown Tampa and parking to get on the ship. This is however my first time on carnival since 1980 and it is no comparing them to Royal Caribbean or Princess lines that overall cater more to adults with the entertainment and cuisine. Let me start off with the sour smells in the dining room that they are trying to mask with fans sitting around on the floor. I have always raved about the food on cruises, but everything on this ship was tasteless and or watered down. The entertainment was adequate at times, but them they ruined that by constantly having someone taking a picture of you to sell. Know who would order a frozen drink for $9 that a waiter has been walking around with for 10 minutes while it turns to syrup, and if you try going to the bar the wait is even longer. The majority of the crew act as if they are not happy with their job and don't care how they treat people yet are paid by a mandatory gratuity deducted from your card. Read Less

I went on this cruise with eleven friends last weekend. I don't usually post negative information, but I feel there are some things people sailing on this vessel should know before making a decision. First, it is a pretty small, old ship. There are no hair dryers in the rooms and our cabin had only one electrical outlet, making it difficult for the use of multiple chargers, hair dryers, straighteners, etc. Although the room size is adequate, the rooms do not have a mini fridge or other amenities. This ship also has one tiny pool for 2,500 passengers. It also has 2 four person hot tubs. I also found the restaurant options to be extremely limited to a couple of dining rooms, a coffee bar and a tasting bar. The food is not great, but they were able to accommodate our one vegetarian guest with one menu item per night. The bars on deck are very crowded and it takes a while to get a drink. It is better to find a spot in a lounge chair and wait for someone to come and take your order. Patience is required! I do believe Carnival did the best they could with what they have to work with. UGH! old-dated --supposed to have been updated 2015 but the ship with exception of main atrium area--cabin was like stepping back in time rust & discoloration on and around window giving murky view of the beautiful sea & sky, no frig, no ice bucket, no hair dryer, worn out furniture dining room staff was very good but all food on the ship was average--hard to find what was open on off hours to eat unless you carried the pamphlet with you. enjoyed the Main shows and comedy club they both had great acts but limited. Bands were very good in the lounges-- many long lines to get food & beverages== overall they need more staff in public bathrooms, clearing tables, and service areas. Heavy Smoke smell lingered and traveled in non smoking areas. Staff appeared to be resigned to "just doing the job" We have been on many cruises before including other much newer Carnival ships but we will be more careful when booking on an OLDER Carnival ships We have another short trip scheduled this July on their Conquest Read Less

This interior room was definitely outdated, unpleasant décor. Steward was above average. Food was mediocre, buffet was understaffed and inadequate for the number of passengers trying to access it. Dining room staff was very good and the food was somewhat better there. Lots of rusty, tired areas. Rope lights in the atrium have many burned out bulbs. Lido deck drink waiters were unfriendly and definitely did not like it if you ordered a soft drink with one of the prepaid soft drink stickers on your cabin card. Elevators were not always working as well as one of the atrium lifts out of order for most of the cruise. Many PA speakers were scratchy and impossible to understand announcements if you were near one. I had paint dripped on me while sitting outside on the deck, looked up to discover a worker painting around the life boat overhead. I would rate this cruise poor, I would not book this ship again. It is in need of major overhaul, in my opinion. It was near impossible to correct booking errors and mixed up rooms for our group of six. Lots of "finger pointing" and the impression that the next guy will TRY to fix it for you, but it might be too late for that, even though we wouldn't or couldn't fix it when you first pointed out the mistake. Very disappointing experience. Read Less

First, I will start off by saying the crew absolutely make this experience wonderful! They went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. The environment was relaxed and casual. I really can not complain about the room or staff. However, there really is nothing for young kids to do except go in the pool. The pool is really small for the amount of guests on the ship. The food is horrendous! Dinner time is a disaster. The buffet on the Lido deck only opens one side, even though both sides are open for breakfast. There really is not much at all for the kids to eat for dinner besides pizza. This is a budget cruise at best. I will not be back with Carnival. Read Less

We have taken several cruises on Royal Caribbean with happy results. This is our first Carnival and will definitely be our last. Most entertainment consisted of audience participation which is funny but also cost nothing to put on. Hours were left with no entertainment at all in order to promote sales in ship's stores. Buffet breakfasts and lunches were great. Evening dinners not so much; in fact, disappointing. Had to share table for ten. Two of five nights just skipped it and went to buffet. As another cruiser suggested it was definitely a Wal-Mart cruise. Long delay at port disembarking. Not enough sanitation stations (purell dispensers). One person at guest services had a terrible cold and had no business dealing with one customer after the other. Wonder how many he infected. Great cabin attendant and nice large shower in bathroom. No thermostat to adjust A/C in cabin. Had to stand on bed to adjust ceiling louvers. Ship kept to schedule (except disembarking) and seas were very calm. All in all, spend a little bit more or stay home. Read Less

My experience - I have been on more than 20 previous cruises dating back to 1989. I sailed on Royal Caribbean and Carnival as well as a few cruise lines that no longer exist including Crown, Dolphin and Premier. The good: Our check-in and boarding experience was swift, friendly and easy. Our cabin steward was friendly and helpful. We were even provided with an in room refrigerator to keep our drinks icy cold. From that point forward the cruise experience deteriorated. The bad: Dining - It started with our attempt to get our dining switched to early seating. This took much effort and while we were successful, we received poor service. We were assigned to the dining room that accommodates "my time" diners. Perhaps these folks contribute to the chaos. The waiters were quite anxious to entertain us nightly but they were not able to coordinate delivery of a course to the table. Appetizers and soups arrived haphazardly and we found our food growing cold while attempting to wait for the table to receive all their dinners. This was a table of only 4 diners. Also getting refills on drinks and getting the plates cleared was also not performed with any precision. Sadly, the quality of the food offered did not make up for the poor service. There was a lot of variety available but it simply lacked flavor. It was the same quality as is found on the buffet. The desserts were bland and unexciting. More Bad: - The Casino - Seriously aging slot machines need updating. While it is reported that drinks are served in the Casino there was almost no evidence. More Bad - Shore Excursion options in Grand Cayman. I believe that many Americans would find the "Turtle Farm" objectionable if they were given complete information in advance. It is the only placed in the world were sea turtles are raised for consumption. Not the way we typically look at endangered species. We also tried a shore excursion in Cozumel. There we did not have adequate time to snorkel and enjoy the beach because our guide insisted we return to boat at 4 PM More Bad - The Coffee Bar - I discovered this gem accidently on the Day 3. When I inquired prior to sailing with Carnival Customer service about specialty coffees on board I was told they did not have that available on this ship. I was pleased to discover it but the lines for service were incredibly long for something that you have to pay extra for. I would think it is a money making opportunity and should be adequately staffed. Disembarkation became quite exciting. We arrived in port on time but were told to wait as there was some hold up on shore. People were seriously backed up. After waiting for over an hour beyond our scheduled time we presented my airplane tickets and insisted that we had to get off the boat or risk missing my flight out of Orlando. When we got into the port I was able to get through customs quickly. I did feel sorry for the folks waiting to get off. There was nothing to keep you entertained and you were standing around in crowded halls and staircases. Not how it should be done. Read Less

I know Carnival is a budget cruise line, but I really thought this cruise would be better. The ship is old, and is in serious need of a facelift. I'm in a "junior suite" that has a wooden door to the balcony that's barely wide enough to turn around on. The cabin is small and the "bar" area takes up a third of the space. The climate control is in the ceiling so I have to call the steward everytime I'm hot or cold. Two of the four elevators that service the area of my cabin have been out of service the whole trip. The Atrium is dark and uninviting. There are a variety of shore excursions to choose from although none are unique to Carnival. There are few activities during the day either for those staying aboard during port days or on sea days. I had thought about playing poker in the casino, but it's a smoking area and simply reeks. The food in the Elation dining room, as well as the buffets, is flavorless and over cooked. There isn't much variety on the menu either. Second worst cruise food I've ever had and I've been on 15 cruises on various lines. There seems to be limited staff and they appear to be overworked and unavailable to assist guest with information or service requests. This was my 3rd Carnival cruise and my last. Read Less

Unorganized schedule when there was activities, nothing ever started on time including dinner! Buffet food was only average, dining room food was very good but not excellent. Dining room servers were fantastic as well as the cabin steward. Cabin was much roomier than expected. Debarkation was a joke. If you are looking for Paradise this is not the place to be. This is my second time cruising and my husband Marks first. As we were leaving Tampa the weather did not cooperate and it started to rain. Typical Florida day though. We sat outside when we could on our super tiny balcony. The ship had a tired feeling to her. The junior suite was alright but kind of dirty. The grout in the shower had mold and I had to ask for a shower mat to use to stand on. Went to the Lido buffet and had lunch. Yuck! I just don't understand how they can make food so awful! Mark thought it was just ok. Went for safety drill which was uneventful. Bellied up to the bar by the pool and had our first drink. Sat there for a little bit and went back to the room. Freshened up for dinner and experienced the "herding of the people" waiting outside the dining room until they finally opened the doors at 6 P.M. Taken to our shared table (not what we wanted). The food that night was ok so we thought things might be alright. Gambled and lost a bit and listened to a band in the bar that was pretty good. Next morning went to the Breakfast buffet. We felt like we were in a Dollar Store or a Wal Mart with the way people dressed. One woman in her bathrobe, slippers and night gown had to weigh in at 450 Pds. I thought there were dress codes but obviously not enforced. Anyway the food once again was terrible. Hey, I was losing weight so I was ok with it. Heard about the dining room serving brunch and gave it a try. Not bad but still nothing special. To make a long story short the food was lousy and there was not much to do while at sea. It took us 38 1/2 hours to dock in Cozumel. Enjoyed shopping there starting drinking a Margherita at 9:30 in the morning! Returned to the ship. This was Wednesday now and we were already not looking forward to being at see for another 17 hours and just went to our room to chill out. Thursday morning we finally docked in Grand Cayman and we asked our Steward what time Friday we arrived back in Tampa. (When I booked the trip I thought it was a 5 day 4 night cruise) Oops nope it would not arrive until Saturday morning. I could not take another day or night of the terrible mattress, my back was killing me and Mark did not want to stay onboard either. Sooo we decided that neither one of us was enjoying the ship nor the food we would leave the ship and stay the night on the island and fly home the next day. We went through all of the paperwork to leave the ship and a very nice girl at the desk named Sarah and another named Amy assisted us with this. They did overcharge us which they reimbursed when we pointed it out to them. Overall, not impressed nor happy with the ship. We will cruise again but not on a Carnival line. RC for us next time. Let me preface by saying that I have been on 3+ cruises with Carnival and about 3 with Royal Carribbean. With that said, I was deeply disappointed with the condition of the ship and the fact that we were not credited for pictures. This was a small group of 7 that went and we were supposed to have a ten dollar credit on our bills towards any photo purchases. Unfortunately no credits were any of the statements. The ship conditions: there were multiple elevators that did not work, the tiles in the bathroom shower need a good mildew/mold treatment, and multiple lights in displays that did not work and the the 8th floor or where-ever the casino is - is mostly a dust cloud. If you don't smoke this is not the cruise for you as well know smoke travels. Also there was a huge number of children on the boat which also proved to be a distraction. In closing the only reason this cruise gets a "2" is due to the staff. They were extremely helpful and kind. Read Less

I sailed on the Paradise in 2002 when it was advertised as the only non-smoking ship of its size on the seas. Unfortunately that is no longer true and, as has been said in other reviews, smoke can be smelled on numerous decks of the ship. Deck 9 aft of the Casino is terrible for non-smokers. If you are on Deck 10 - Lido - after 10:00pm the only place to get a beverage is the smoking bar which is always full of smokers. The food on the ship is mediocre. We ate in the dining room once only to try the menu. My companion had the prime rib and I had the roast duck. Both were nothing more than average at best. The buffet during all three major dining times, was average but other options were available at the deli and Mongolian grill. The pool and pool area are small but there is a water slide. We only went to one comedian performance which took place early and children were allowed to attend. The performer therefore played to the kids. I did not hear any favorable or negative comments regarding entertainment. We visited the public beach in Grand Cayman which was clean and not crowded. $20.00 US to rent two chairs and an umbrella. $8.00 cab ride for two. In Cozumel we taxied to Sky Reef for snorkeling and lunch. It is a $13.00 US cab ride for 1-4 people. At the reef you can buy a package for $15.00pp that includes a chair and umbrella, snorkeling gear, one beer or margarita, tequila tasting and massage. Food is extra but very reasonable and pretty tasty. Living in the Tampa Bay area made travel to and from the port easy. We purchased the Fast to the Fun option for $60.00 and it provided quick embarkation and disembarkation. It also provided priority tender boarding in Grand Cayman. Since we would opt for walk-off disembarkation, F2F merely allowed us to leave a little early. We used 241 parking at the port which is a private lot located several blocks for the port. Service there was excellent - watch out for the ants - and about 1/2 price compared to the port lot. I would definitely use Port Tampa in the future but probably not on the Paradise. The Paradise is a very tired ship in need of a rest. I am a 20 time cruiser. Read Less

One (1) outlet in bedroom, which malfunctioned on a port call and delayed our departure for 2 hours, (good thing we didn't have an excursion planned). Garbage room service coffee. Literally!! After drinking coffee that had a bit odd taste discovered a small milk carton stuffed inside the coffee pot. Gee, I wonder how long that was in there. Toilet backed up. We picked this cruise because it was close to home and cheaper than doing a vacation with hotel, etc. The staff was wonderful. Our cabin steward, Melinda was so sweet and our waiter in the MDR, Oscar plus his assistant Valentin were very attentive and remembered our names and preferences. We had an Inside cabin on deck 6. The room was as expected, but the shower was larger than normal. Now the food - the first night I ordered the Chicken El Greco and took a bite and spit it out - it was like rubber, The next night I ordered the Prime Rib and the only way it had any flavor was because I got some horse radish. We ate breakfast and lunch in the Paris Restaurant Buffet and still did not find a lot that we were happy with. The dinners the other nights were nothing to write home about. I stuck mostly with salads. We were expecting shows every night, but were very surprised to find out only 2 nights had real shows. One night the only show was at 10:15 and it was a Love and Marriage show (like the Newly wed game). The couples were hilarious, but still - certainly not a production. This was more of a booze cruise. We went out back off the Paris Restaurant a few times one of the days at sea. There was an empty beer can out there on the floor that was there all day. They rarely came out to that area to clean it after people came out and sat and ate. Some parts of the ship they cleaned a lot, others seemed to be forgotten. We are going on Independence of the Seas in October and I am so looking forward to that cruise. From now on, we will stick with RCCL or NCL and stay away from Carnival, but it was a good experience to go - and we will appreciate the other cruises even more. Read Less

The showers on this ship were the best we have seen on our eight cruises. The Staff was friendly and helpful and wanted to make the guests happy. Entertainers were Great! End of good stuff. Pool deck - tiny. Outside walkways - tiny. LIfeboat procedures - diaster in the making - no real organization. Decks are so narrow that you need to muster in a lounge and then follow the leader to a lifeboat. Cigarette smoke from the Casino is all over the ship. Noticable odor in stairwells, shops, passageways. Worst thearter we have been in. Balcony seats are the worst. You cannot see the stage from any except the front row. No refrigerator or hair dryers in rooms. Sound system in Public areas was very bad. It was very difficult to understand the announcements because of all the Bass in the audio. Trivia games were fun but the location outside the Casino Smoking Bar was terrible. WE got to the ship early enough that boarding was relatively quick and easy. Less than 30 minutes. Getting off by the Ships schedule was a nightmare. Our luggage tags were number 24 so we had to wait until 1030 to even begin getting off. If we elected the Carry your own option, we were on deck 4 so we would have to wait until 1000 to get off. We had a flight to catch so we were allowed to leave earlier if we carried our bags. We did. We were surprised to find a total lack of entertainment. Many lounge areas were empty. Lots of bored passengers walking around. The dancers did only two shows. The first one was a country western theme. The dancers were excellant. Did not care for country music. The cruise director did an amazing job playing the fiddle.! Sounded just liked Charlie Daniels doing "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" The other show was longer and much better. A revue of music from 50's to the 70's. This is the kind of show that should be every night. There was a comedy show once. Same night as the first broadway show. Dinner took an hour too long so we miss it. Heard from another passenger that it was not good. Another night same theater all there was on stage to watch was ship passengers trying to learn how to dance. Awful entertainment for people after a nice dinner all dressed up for a romantic evening. No good bands to listen to onboard. No band to slow dance to. On the main stage in the bar area near the service desk and shore excursion desk was one lone guiter player. He was dressed very sloppy. He was not good at all. No hypnotist. During the day not much to do. No discovery at sea programs, no ceramics, no game shows. Just eating, drinking, bingo, gambling. The afternoon tea there was no one on the piano in the middle of the lounge. The food was alright. About like Golden Corral. Maybe a two star restaurant. Not very gourment like on Princess ships. Sometimes in the main dining room the food looked like it was just throwed on the plate. Not attractively presented as should be. The buffet had the same choices for breakfast and lunch every day. Most of the food choices closed around 3:30. Loved the Mongolian Grill. But wished it stayed open past 3pm. Only two pools. Very shallow pools. The slide took up most of the room. Not enough lounge chairs in the shade. Missed having movies under the stars. Indoor stateroom was nice. Bed was comfortable. Shower was big enough for two people. Missed having a refrigerator in the room. The door to the closet was right next to the door for the bathroom Could not open both at the same time. Staff onboard was very friendly. Room steward did a wonderful job. We had an absolutely fantastic hot stone massage for couples. Really loved that!!! Do not waste money buying faster to the fun. It was fast and easy to embark and disembark. Did not take very long to tender to Grand Caymen. In Cozumel we went to Passion Island. Our 5th time going there. It was just as fantastic as always. Highly recommend this excursion. In Grand Caymen we book a private tour with Captain Marvin's Stingray. We have done this before and loved it. When we got there we found out our prepaid credit card was not good internationally. So missed the tour. We chilled out onboard ship. Found the one small pool on the upper deck. Nice but only 3ft deep and tiny and far away from anything. Prefer Princess to Carnival cruise lines. This is a cheap short cruise and that is what you get.We are ages 57 and 59. Bored this 5 night cruse to catch up with some old friends. Start with the good. Destiny Dining Room was excellent and meals were good, service was impeccable. Room was nothing special, like all cruise rooms it stunk like old urine. Entertainment was a bit better than expected for the ship. Deck 9 is a complete joke. Smoking in the Casino mades its way to the US Bar as well, it was disgusting and no one was even trying to get the smoking back in the Casino, but on the same ship the Maitre D sent a 10 year old boy back to his room to put on a teeshirt with sleeves. Every activity anywhere midship on Deck 9 meant poisoning yourself with all the smokers that were not in the casino playing games which is the smoking rule. Carnival shame on you for filing to make this pleasant for most people. Not gonna cruise with you again. Are there any smoke free ships out there, if so they will get my business. Read Less

Eight of us went on this cruise for fun and entertainment. We will not go again on the Paradise. It is an older ship but that did not cause any problems. It was the lack of FUN. Entertainment was non-existent on night 3 and 4. No bands, no piano, no shows and no comedian. The highlight was the newlywed game on day 3 and day 4 had a lame game of liar's. There were very few activities during the day and most were selling something in the spa. Of course there were art sales too. The food was very good and our waiter Coswin gave excellent service. We ate on the Lido for some breakfasts and lunch. I liked the deli bar where items ere made to my instructions. Read Less

This was my 8th cruise. Previously, I had gone on a 3 day Carnival from Port Orlando to (ugh) Nassau…..but that was my first cruise and I did manage to have a lot of fun. My second cruise was on Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas, which was pretty nice. The other five were on Holland America (HAL), and maybe I got spoiled by the great entertainment and classy treatment that HAL offers. We embarked on the Carnival Paradise (????) from Tampa during a driving rain storm. Embarkation was efficient. But when I first stepped onto the Paradise I thought that the atrium was one of the ugliest spectacles I had ever encountered. And I noticed that there seemed to be no staff members to direct passengers in the right direction. Then I noticed that my fellow passengers made me feel that I was in a Wal Mart on a busy Saturday. We did help each other find the right elevator, floor, and stateroom. But this was certainly not the mix of people I met on other cruises, especially HAL. My stateroom met with my approval. It was an oceanview on the lowest (Riviera) deck, and so far aft that there was only one room between me and the emergency exit. Later, I experienced some engine vibration at certain times, but that was not the case at least 90 percent of the time. The room was quiet, and the steward was friendly and eager to please. I was hungry, so I made my way to the Lido deck. It was still raining, so nobody was outside, and I had to fight my way through an ugly crowd to get something to eat and ANYplace to sit. I was starting to get very depressed. The weather improved, as did my experience. Otherwise, I would have been tempted to jump overboard! Oh…..then there was the safety drill. On my 7 previous cruises, this was always a joke. But Carnival really made it hilarious. They crowded us into one of the nightclubs, then some dude came around with a clicker and counted heads. On Royal Caribbean, they used hand-held scanners to check peoples’ cards. At least they knew whether everybody was there! We then sat (or stood) through a brief demo of donning a life-jacket. That was it……God help us if one of those ships has a real emergency…..nobody will know what to do. My biggest gripe about this cruise was the lack of entertainment. The “Shout” show on the last night was excellent. The other four nights???? Two comedians and lots of Bingo. The mostly young passengers seemed to enjoy bouncing from club to club and getting as drunk and rowdy as possible. Some of the best “entertainers” I saw was in the Karaoke bar. “Do it yourself” seems to be the Carnival approach to entertainment on these ships. The shore excursion in Grand Cayman (Coral Garden & Stingray Sandbar) was GREAT. This was my 6th time snorkeling, and the best! The excursion in Cozumel (Deluxe Beach Catamaran Sail and Snorkel) was lousy. Overcrowded boat, poor snorkeling, and mostly just an excuse to get drunk and dance the Macarena with the crew. Not too much different than being onboard the Paradise! Disembarking was the worst I’ve ever encountered. I had a flight that was 4 hrs after the Paradise hit land. I was advised by staff to take my luggage with me. They must have told a lot of people to do that. Spending way more than an hour fighting your way to the gangway, with people generally carrying way too much luggage (cases of booze??) was not my idea of fun. I just about kissed the ground when my feet landed in Tampa. To be fair, the service aboard the Paradise was generally very good. And I think that Carnival is just playing to a demographic that works for the line. But my next cruise will NOT be with them……it’s cheaper to just go visit WalMart. Read Less

this was my first cruise vacation and last one.this carnival paradise was too far from being a paradise place to be.we purchase an excursion to Cozumel mexico to passion island for $160 for my wife and me,they told us that it was a five hours excursion in the island but they din'd told us that the time to get to that island was included in the five hours excursion, witch it took us over 2 hours on the round trip so it left us less than 3 hours to enjoy the excursion plus the crew that took us was asking for tip all the time.we enjoy more the shopping around the port of mexico.i recommend to bye souvenirs around the port because its a lot less expensive than any were else.we boat a souvenir in the excursion island for $40 dollars and we saw the same item on the port for $9 dollars,i was angry.carnival paradise is a cruise for people that likes to drink all day long, the pool is too small for so many people, the decoration of the ship is a casino stale everywhere on the ship. there's nothing to do on that cruise but to get drunk and hear laud and wack music. i felt trap in that ship.the only good think was the food but after the second day u get tire of eating the same food, burgers and fries and chicken strips.the sodas are not included, there is water and lemonade on the dispenser, most of the crew were nice and friendly but there was a few of them with series faces.there was lack of information for exiting the ship.they sit u with others couples on the dinner witch it was ad at the first but then used to it and made friend with others people but it feels wear at first. We signed up for this cruise because all of our family could join. This board is old and doesn't have all the amenities that some of the newer shipts have. The boarding process went fine, the cabins were clean. We bought the "Cheers" drink program which we thought would be cheaper but the plan limits you to one drink at a time, so if you want to buy a round for your group you can't. I ended up having my brother charge it and paid him back. Carnival also puts a hold on your bank account or credit card (if you use one) DOUBLE to the amount you actually charged on the ship, even once they have charged you the final time. This hold could remain on your fund for up to 10 business days, they told me they could expedite the hold process but we are on day 3 and nothing has been released. I would recommend you use only cash and just load your card as needed, it takes extra time but at least they don't double charge you. Their customer service was great until the day we left the ship, then the staff could have cared less if you needed anything and if you call the customer service line you are treated as a leper unless you are calling to book another cruise. I do not recommend Carnival they don't have a good system for charging people and they don't give you all the facts up front. Read Less

I want to start off by saying that the cruise wasn't that good of a cruise but there are some pluses well no there aren't any pluses first the food was good for the first day but after 4 days of eating burgers and fries and the other stuff which wasn't good it got awful the service their is remarkable but activities for the cruisers suck. You will be trying to find something to do on the ship the whole time it felt like you were waiting to go back to Tampa instead of being on the cruise. The activities on the cruise ship are mediocre unless your aged 1-8 or 60 and up this isn't the cruise for you. The ship rocked a lot while on the way to Mexico and when getting to grand cayman island you had only 4 to 5 hours to experience the island the cruise felt more of a trap when you try to do things on the ship you can't cause there's nothing to do. The second day afterwards was me more thinking of going home than being on the ship felt like i was trapped the best thing is the beds are comfortable so when you find out there's nothing to do there is a nice bed to sleep on your whole vacation. I'm not angry at all but it's just the carnival paradise doesn't have anything to do unless your very young or very old the most fun you'll have is off the ship the carnival paradise shouldn't be in "the fun ship" category it's the most boring ship carnival has I suggest another ship with more activities because this one isn't for you. I was more relaxed when I got back home than being on the ship the cruise felt the same as if I was listening to a speech at a highschool graduation just for 5 days which means it was BORING but of the ship in Cozumel was awesome but all fun things come to a end because we had to return to the boring ship just to let you guys know . Was really looking forward to this cruise but was extremely displeased with it overall as were my fellow travelers! Had Oceanview Upper 214. The hum of the motors drowned out other hallway sounds until last night when staff were very loud picking up luggage from hallways. The window was beyond dirty! Could barely see out of it because of lack of cleaning inside and out. We never figured out which of the people in the hallway was our room attendant which was a first. It took 2 days to get glasses in room and had to request ice bucket and ice! Shower & bathroom tile need bleach and need new robes for rooms! We received one robe for our two person room. When a new robe was requested we received a robe with holes in it and stains. The Lifeboat Drill lasted over an hour with the boat workers threatening to confiscate any IPhones, IPads, or electronic devices if seen by him while we sat in the lounge crammed elbow to elbow with strangers. Very hostile, indifferent staff. The Lido buffet food was disappointing at best. Ended up eating from the pool side Hamburger Buffet and Deli during the day. At dinner time we had Late Seating and the food was unseasoned and bland. Very rushed! Missed most of nightly shows because of timing issues with dinner and shows. When reaching Grand Caymen we had to wait until almost lunchtime to tender off boat which really cut our time on the island short! Cozumel was slightly better. Since we were short on time at Grand Caymen, we took a local air conditioned taxi and got all of the highlights of the entire island including Hell, Seven Mile Beach, and other local landmarks for $12 !!! Over 2 hours with a local and had a great time, learned about the history of the island, and a little about the native people. We paid him what we would have paid Carnival and got one on one service with a great attitude! We did do the Mayan Ruins tour on Cozumel and enjoyed our tour guide Denisse. The boat service overall was severely lacking. This ship needs a good cleaning and a staff attitude adjustment! We will spend our money elsewhere when cruising again! Don't recommend! Read Less
