First time on Holland after many cruises on Carnival, RCL and NCL.
CONS: They definitely have an issue with staffing, especially in regards to buffett and main dining rooms. Buffett, they let you choose some items yourself but not others, which leads to big lines. Main dining room you get a glass of wine immediately but any mixed drink, you have to wait 1/2 an hour. Some staff is not as ...
First, we love HAL. Each time we sail, we are impressed with the service, the food, and the ships. Of course, like everyone else we are always most impressed with the crew and, particularly, our stewards. What a great bunch of professionals each and every one has been!
This cruise had some hiccups and coughs that I think they will soon work out, as well as one possible major flaw that ...
Context: I'm a 40-something gay man traveling with my husband and our 19 year old kid (first cruise for the kid). This was my first cruise on HAL, and his second. Other lines we've done: Celebrity (twice), RCCL (twice), Norwegian (twice), Princess (once). Our favorite lines are Celebrity and RCCL.
A little context to this review. Apparently, this was the first fully booked cruise on ...
We have been on a total of 6 cruises, 3 of which were with Holland America. The most recent trip was a 21 day Fort Lauderdale to Vancouver April 24 to May 15. We felt the itinerary offered a good mix of sea days and shore time. The food in the dining room was excellent and only one night did we have a waiter that needed more training. The room steward we had worked hard to keep us happy. Room ...
e had boarding in San Diego. I did all the pre boarding requirements on the HAL website and on VeriFLY. Our boarding pass said that a REAL ID-compliant driver's license was ok BUT the dock personnel did not seem to know that, we got shuffled over to another area and were finally told it was ok and we were allowed onboard.
The Koningsdam is a nice ship and seemed to be very clean. We got to our ...
Background: Nov 2021 we went on our second HAL1 week Mexican Rivera cruise on the Koningsdam from San Diego. Fun, high energy good cruise. Would repeat.
In June 2015 we were on our first Holland America cruise on the Zuiderdam for 33 days: 29 ports, 13 countries from Barcelona to Rome. Inside cabin. We had a wonderful time with the ports, fellow cruisers, food, music etc. we would ...
We recieved the best service ever on a cruise. Everyone gave 100%. The food and entertainment was great also. We also enjoyed the complimentary robes in each cabins.
We had a slight issue with the heat in our cabin but that was rectified by moving us to another cabin. The shower faucets were different and a challenge to get the right temperature of water.
There was continuing cleaning ...
Positive experiences:
-Beautiful modern decor in public areas and staterooms.
-We love the Retreat Cabanas, a great value at $300 for the week.
-Speciality restaurants are very good. The burger and hot dog bar stocks vegan meat substitutes, which was a big pleasant surprise for us. The pizza place, Dutch Cafe (order the triple berry), and Canaletto (try the risotto) were especially ...
After more than a ten year hiatus from a Holland America cruise, we decided to travel on a seven day cruise to Mexico. From the start of our first evening dinner in the dining room, there was a definite lack of service. Not only did we wait to get into the dining room, but after being seated, we often waited for another half an hour. One night we waited one hour for a drink with our dinner. ...
Koningsdam 2022 - Reality Check
We just returned from a seven-day cruise from San Diego to Mexico on the newer Koningsdam cruise ship. Accompanied by twenty-two highly experienced travel friends from San Diego, this was our last-minute plan for New Year’s Eve 2022.
