Sail Date: Feb 2022
Cabin: Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

Background: Nov 2021 we went on our second HAL1 week Mexican Rivera cruise on the Koningsdam from San Diego. Fun, high energy good cruise. Would repeat.

In June 2015 we were on our first Holland America cruise on the Zuiderdam for 33 days: 29 ports, 13 countries from Barcelona to Rome. Inside cabin. We had a wonderful time with the ports, fellow cruisers, food, music etc. we would repeat.

Booked this cruise about 12 days prior to sailing, because we "knew" the ship and had had a blast, and for the itinerary of French Polynesia. Hesitant about all the sailing days. We had no beverage or other packages. We bought the laundry package, worth every dollar.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

Deck 5 Cabin 5097. Verandah. Cabin stewards were very good, accommodating and friendly. They get 5 stars. The Cabin gets 4 stars

The balcony was great to hang our wet swim suits, shoes, besides enjoying the view.

Our stewards put an extension around the bed for my Husband's C-PAP machine.

The bathroom tub/shower was spacious, and it had a hanging line for wet clothes. Elemis Shampoo, Conditioner and Shower Gel were in 3 dispensers , and near the bathroom sink we had an Elemis Soap and Body Lotion dispenser. There was enough space under the bed for our suitcase and carry on, and there were 2 draws at the end of the bed that you could use for other storage. The closet space was more than enough for us and there was a small safe for use if needed.

However, the mini fridge had become even smaller, and filled with drinks, that we removed. The extra cabinet on the right side of the bathroom sink had been removed.

We missed a desk plug as it was used for the CPAP, and the desk seemed smaller and looked crowded.

Unfortunately from day 1 had pinkish eyes. At the first port Avalon, I bought some Clear Eye drops and that seemed to help some. Our steward gave us soap bars, in case the liquid was the culprit, but no, that did not help. My husband was not affected. The first night after the cruise, the redness disappeared. So something in the cabin/ship was an irritant to my eyes.
