We went on this cruise with a group as a business trip. The food was below par, the buffet was the leftovers from the dining room the night before. The Saphire Dining Room meals were equal to a Chili's or Red Robin in the US. Definitely not getting what you paid for. We ate in Chops one night, food was OK, but it would be what I expected in the main dining room, and I would expect better from one of the specialty restaurants. Entertainment was short and choppy; 30 minutes here, 15 minutes there, but nothing to hold you there or keep you entertained. We did the drink package which was very expensive, but cheaper than buying 3 drinks a day. Our balcony suite had ripped sheets on the bed, the picture frame was so tarnished it looked black in the left corner, we had 6 bottles of water in the room for the entire 9 days, if you wanted free water you had to get it on a different deck, if you ordered it to your room, you paid a room service fee. It's a giant floating mall where they nickle and dime you for everything. I'm very sad that cruises have become so below average. We won't be cruising anymore. Teresa Read Less

We chose this cruise to get a taste of the ports. We had never been to any of the countries of the port and wanted to see if these countries would be places we would want to go back and stay longer. If you want to see Paris a cruise is not the way to go. We took the ships transportation and the ship got into port by 7:00 but our bus did not leave until 9:15-9:30. Then the bus HAD to stop a 1/2 hour before we get into Pair (15 min is more like 30). We reached Paris in 3 hours and was originally told we would have 4 hours, which turned into 3 1/2. Then the bus was late to pick us up. No stop on the way back to ship. To rushed. if I did again I would find something to do closer to ship. Would be a good port for cruise ships to stay overnight. Day at sea because of cold weather not much activities on ship, so as long as you can entertain yourself it was fine. Cruising into Oslo was beautiful. We had 1 1/2 days there and it was a safe and clean place to go out on your own. We saw the Viking ship museum, the statue park (beautiful in the fall), ski jump and more. No rush Enjoyed port! Next port Amsterdam. Then to Zeebrugge, We took a bus into Bruges and had a wonderful time. Very friendly people and beautiful. a must do is the canal boat ride. Our cabin was toward the back of the ship which ewe seem to feel a lot of vibration. Out room was always clean, but we only saw our cabin steward 2 times in 9 days. Our friends cabin was on the same deck and but more mid ship and we saw and got to know there guy real well. Entertainment was good. Since we left out of UK we had more British on the cruise so the entertainment was more British too, which was no problem. We went to one of the quiz get together and all questions were for them. The dinning room was good, although they cut out the lobster night. The windjammer was a little below par but we only went there if we had to. All in All we had a great time with good friends. I believe spending time with good friends and meeting new ones make a difference. Life is what you make of it.. Read Less

My partner wanted me to try out cruising. We did Northern Europe 9 nights as a starter. Glad it wasn't any longer!!! We had a Deluxe (it wasn't) balcony room, tired and dated. Entertainment was very holiday camp, which is fine but your not paying holiday camp prices!!! I felt the whole thing was very comercial no personal touches, constantly being pushed to purchase extras i.e. Drink, food, internet packages and excursions the latter we didn't do through Royal Caribbean which I'm pleased about, having seen the prices and heard some of the other guest comments. Food in the main dinning area (ala carte menu) was very average. Food in windjammer (help yourself buffet) was much better, Staff were friendly enough, some of them clearly needed a holiday themselves and some of their uniforms were very tatty. There were a few that were really nice and helpful. Shops on board were poorly stocked and out of season. We paid £2,400 for 2 of us plus drinks package which was roughly £800 plus eating in the specialty dinning rooms £200 so the actual cost was around £3,400 for 2 in my opinion we could and have got a lot more for our money when not cruising. We spent Friday evening at sea Saturday in Cherbourg, that was nice Sunday in Le Havre most things were closed (badly planned) Paris is about a 6-7 hour round trip so not really worth it for the few hours you'd get there. Monday at sea Tuesday & Wednesday in Oslo, beautiful country do the hop on off bus tour well worth it. Thursday at sea Friday Amsterdam do the hop on off bus and boat tour well worth it. You don't get long enough here. Saturday in Belgium again beautiful, get the shuttle from the port. And do a river cruise, Again not long enough here so it makes the wasted Sunday in Le Havre even more annoying. Read Less

The cruise was excellent. We traveled as a family with several under the age of three (all in a family stateroom). It was a nice time to travel in Europe, and the ship provided excellent service. We were especially impressed with Royal Tots for our young ones, and the professionalism (and assistance) that the crew provided throughout our voyage with kids. They were always assisting with finding a table for breakfast or lunch, meeting our food allergy needs, or just helping us navigate the ship. We did have some issues with the shore excursions and how family friendly they were, especially since we had a small team of toddlers. The staff was very helpful though, and after our initial less-then-expected experience, made sure that the appropriate accommodations were made for our future excursions. Cruising in the fall made the temperatures on the lower end (50's and 60's), but it was enjoyable with the less busy port stops. We also were lucky to cruise the week before school holidays in most ports, which provided a lot of additional time for our younger children to experience all the ship had to offer. Read Less

Fitted in well with school holidays and always good to sail from Southampton. Ship is a good one although a little tired in places. The last time we had Clo as a cruise director she was disappointing but she was bang on form on this cruise. Main dining was good service but main dining food was not as good as it used to be and significantly lower in standard than NCL who we used for the first time this year. Service has improved since the same time last year and a good itinerary made for a good holiday. Excursions were varied but in my opinion very overpriced and 50% cheaper to organise yourself in some cases. Speciality restaurant prices have gone up significantly over the last few years and generally, menus have reduced in variety and not changed much in the last 8 years. Hypnotist show was brilliant, and whilst it may seem like a moanathon, still a good holiday and we will use again if it's a good deal Read Less

Not too big, not too small. Service was great as it always is with R.C. The entertainment ran from excellent to downright awful. The main shows were quite good but the trio at Boleros, Teddy something, was shameful. If you don't know the words or cannot carry a note, don't sing the song. Their instrumentals were very good, only to be ruined by the singing. You could hear an audible groan from the crowd. That aside, this is a great ship with a great crew and we will be booking again soon. Inside cabin was larger than some we have been on. The ship had many different activities for all ages including a rock wall, ice skating, putt putt golf, flow rider and basketball as well as the largest fitness center we have seen so far. Food and service was what you expect on Royal Caribbean, excellent. We have already booked for next year. Read Less

Well organised enjoyable cruise. Ship lovely, interior well maintained, clean and attractive. Cabin 9655 interior, good location not too far from lifts, and main restaurants. Although nearer the rear of the ship and on deck 9 it was a good position when we experienced rough weather. Quality of the food was great, enjoyed the variety in the windjammer buffet restaurant, the main restaurant had good service, but we found that the food became a little boring after eating there for a few nights. Shows and entertainment were excellent, mainly appealing to the British sense of humour which suited us fine! Look out for the free activity sessions... flow rider, ice-skating, climbing wall as private sessions are expensive. The enrichment lectures were brilliant, really enjoyed the forensic CSI talk. Service excellent, but remember that you do not need to pay gratuities in advance; get the automatic gratuity charge removed, and reward the good service at the end of the cruise... like it should be! You can also survive the cruise without a drinks package (although individual alcoholic drinks are very expensive) we found tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, squash and water freely available from the windjammer restaurant and café promenade, the main restaurant is also happy to provide iced water. Cruise was chosen mainly based on ports of call. All of which we enjoyed. Embarking usually was smooth. Whenever it was time to return to ship, lines were very long. Cruise was crowded and there were always lines whether to eat, if you had a question or needed help at the main desk. We only used RC as a means of transportation to St. Michel and Brugge. Otherwise we did shore excursions on our own, which worked out fine. Cabin was clean, neat and well maintained. Overall, ship appears a little worn, but well maintained. Food overall was of very poor quality in main dining room. Overcooked, lots of sauces, not real fresh. Windjammer was a typical buffet scene, which is not how we like to dine; but for the most part food ddi seem a bit fresher. Actually, food was aimed at the typical child: lots of fried things, lots of sauces, hamburgs, pizza, hot dogs. We did have beverage package. Wine prices were still high with 40% discount and very limited selection considering you're onboard for 8 days. Read Less

We were looking for destinations out of the ordinary. I called this the European Kiss... Ports of call that we would not normally choose, yet wanted to explore. Certainly filled the bill for us. We would give this cruise an Excellent Review but there were a few exceptions that kept it from a 5 star. Our initial on-board experience felt like an onslaught of timeshare salesmen. We barely arrived on the ship and were greeted with people hawking the beverage packages, trying to take our picture, up-selling restaurants and dining packages. Really? It was not the way to start a cruise and it continued each and every day - including our poor dining staff having to try to get us to leave them for a meal somewhere else on the ship. During the cruise I enjoyed a spa special and was, again, pushed to buy products i didn't need or want... It spoiled what was a wonderful experience... Having spent my life in sales, there are more considerate ways of up-selling that RC should be thinking about if they want 5 star reviews from professionals. With the exception of France, we felt our tour guides were well versed and easy to understand. Our French guide, Marc, was almost impossible to understand. His accent was so deep that we struggled to understand what he was trying to say at each stop. This was heightened when we toured the D-Day locations. There was no attempt to use a whisper system and we traveled long distances without being able to hear him. We were a very large group of 50 people... I could have done the tour on my own had I realized just how awful it would be with him as our guide. The ship takes a beating with each and every cruise. While our overall experience in the cabin was excellent, there were several items that seemed travel weary. And the halls of decks 6 and 9 had a distinct odor of mold... hmmm.... I was disappointed that the RC survey didn't include a place for notes of concern about specific items. Hoping this review will reach them. Overall, we loved this cruise and hope that our observations will be noted for the future. Read Less

Wanted to see more of Europe so booked with Royal Carribean first and last time! Ship is tired needs a refit though on the positive side is clean. Staff work hard , long days and are always helpfull. Sadly the drinks are very expensive $13 for a glass of wine $3.50 for a can of coke !! There are no price lists at any of the bars so unable to choose other than by looking over the bar . You can buy a drinks package for $65 a day each and can only get one drink at a time so you can't share . Gratuity automatically added of $191 per cabin to your bill unless you opt out . Entertainment was OK in the evening but poor during the day . The main bugbear was the constant hard sell by staff for everything from dinner experiences to photos. Food was good and plentiful in the cafeteria but please loose the plastic plates and dishes they are awfull. Only wanted to sell the tours at destinations so hardly any other information given as to how guests can get about . Also some guests got premier seating and bars off limit for those not paying the premium . Sorry but will not be booking again back to P&O. Read Less
