Dining at sunset on formal night. We dressed but many folks did not. We wished we didn't also (less clothes to pack!)

NEW ENHANCED INDEPENDENCE OF THE SEAS

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Independence of the Seas

We had previously been on this ship twice before and were looking forward to the promised 'enhanced' Independence. All that has happened is that Royal Caribbean have added a lot more cabins, more restaurants which you have to pay for and extra childrens facilities. The ship was far too full - there was nowhere to sit and trying to get a lounger by the pool a definite non starter. The food ...

Not an improvement

I LOVED this ship and was SO looking forward to going on her again. Imagine my disappointment to see all the negative changes. It made me very sad. Fewer common areas, replaced with many new cabins. Sadly, the infrastructure could not accommodate the added passengers and service was severely sacrificed. I more often than not had to clear a table for myself in the Windjammer. Many more ...

Chose this because I love previous cruises on Indy and wanted to see what she was like after the refit. The main changes were adding things for kids, it seems RCI are trying to pish out their older passengers and become completely family orientated. The ship seemed very overcrowded, a bit frantic with kids racing around everywhere so you had to be a bit nippy on your feet to avoid them, and Indy ...

Sadly Changed for the Worst

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Independence of the Seas

Fifth and last time probably on this ship. Far to crowded and a very rough element now. A lot of people were evicted from the shp for bad behaviour, mainly brawling. MDR long wait for food and quality when it finally arrived not good. Far to much asking us to applaud when they parade and tell us how wonderful they are. This is probably aimed at getting us to tip their poorly paid staff who are ...

A Disappointment

We had sailed on Independence twice before and loved the ship. We like RC - and the "fun" atmosphere. Although always a large ship, it never felt too crowded. However, this time it was a completely different experience. I had not known that they had added more cabins but once on board you certainly noticed the crowds. Everywhere seemed mobbed. Like some other reviewers, we had the same ...

One refit too many!!!

Covered some ports of call not previously visited. Marseille a bit of a disappointment. Food was more than adequate but trying to get a sharing table when on My Time Dining, proved very difficult. This is probably due to the extra 103 cabins included in the recent refit. This also showed in no sun beds available and every bar being crowded. We have been in this ship before but will not be ...

Fantastic cruise round the Mediterranean.

We have been on the particular ship 3 times now, they have done a fantastic refurb the only problem with having more cabins was it was impossible to get a subbed, the supposed staff who were to monitor the sun beds were inefficient and didn’t do their job in most cases. I totally agreed with ruc decision to offload the people involved in fighting during one of the England matches. The standard of ...

Unbelievable Changes

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Independence of the Seas

Having been on Independence before, I like other passengers was looking forward to sailing again on it, but due to the changes like adding 105 extras extra cabins it increases the passenger ratio, so it was impossible to find any sunbeds after 10am, it was the same when you were walking along the promenade it was also impossible to find anywhere to sit. Being a Diamond member if you did not ...

Benidorm at sea and avoid the panoramic cabins

I have a back injury and am temporarily unable to fly, so as regular cruisers my wife and I had heard good things about this ship and it was sailing from Southampton so we booked it. I will say that this is the first time we have sailed from This port and embarkation was very good and quick. The first thing we noted on boarding was an awful raw sewage smell on deck 4 on the port side at the ...

Not an experience to be repeated

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Independence of the Seas

We have cruised on Independence of the Seas on a number of occasions and are Diamond level members of the Crown and Anchor Society loyalty programme. Previously we have always been satisfied with the experience but this cruise was very disappointing. The ship has just had a major refit and we have seen it described as “enhancing the family activity”. To us the result was most unsatisfactory. ...
