This was our first Viking cruise and my husband is not a lover of cruises. By the end he was a fan. I can't emphasize the great service enough. Everyone from cabin stewards to the maintance crew you might meet in the hall was friendly and helpful. The food was very good. Meet and Mingle: Since we only had 6 people for this meeting, we were invited into a private dining room off Manfredi's for dinner with two members of the crew. It was really a great dinner. The food at Manfredi's is good and the crew members were lots of fun. Restaurants: We really liked Manfredi's and The Restaurant. I was disappointed in the Chef's Table both in the food and the service. The Mexican menu was OK, the Scandinavian meal was not good at all. Although we had the Silver Drink Package, alternative wines were not offered when we declined a wine we didn't like. Pay attention to the advertised menu as that is all that will be available. In the other restaurants the staff always wanted to find what you wanted. We found the World Cafe to be a bit crowded and tended to not use it. Sandwiches (try the philly cheesesteak) at the pool cafe were good and that area isn't usually crowded. We used Room Service on mornings of excursions and was pleased. Mamsen's was good for a late breakfast. At The Restaurant you will be asked if you want a table for just your party or if you want to share. I encourage you to ask to share as we met many interesting people. Excursions: We really liked the Pulpit Rock Cruise. The boat ride was beautiful with several stops along the way and a stop for some delicious waffles on the way back. I would do that one again. The Flam Railway, although expensive and a long day, was well worth taking. I tried to find a way to book the railway separate from Viking but was unable to do it. The trip was very good. We Had lunch at a hotel restaurant on the way back and the food there was just fair. I'm glad to have taken the excursion but wouldnt repeat it. In Oslo we did the included tour and then, on our own, visited the Viking Ship Museum and the Nobel Peace Center. Dont miss the Nobel Peace Center! In Copenhagen we did the included tour and then walked around the city by ourselves. In both citied, you can easily see what you want without a tour. We didn't go into Berlin as we had been there for several days earlier in the month. Those that did go complained lots about the long hot train ride and seeing very little of the city. Be aware that you spend most of the day traveling. For the most part, we heard many compliments on added excursions from those who took them. Other than Berlin, I didn't hear any complaints. The included tours were mostly an overall view of the area. By the end, most of them seemed alike. My advice is to take them if you aren't taking an optional tour. We only had one bad experience where the tour guide was terrible and the a/c on the bus wasn't working. Others had great tour guides and were short enough to not feel as if you had lost the entire day. Many of the smaller ports begin to feel alike by the end of the cruise. Silver Drink Package: I really went back and forth and finally bought this the week before sailing. Although we don't drink lots, I didn't want to think about the cost everytime I ordered a drink. I would definitely buy it again. We were able to try lots of wines off the wine menu at meals (except at Chef's Table) and were able to specify what brands we wanted when we had a night cap. Before we left I saw a drink brand menu and didn't see Maker's Mark, our favorite brand. However, Maker's was there as well as several other brands not listed. Try Beluga vodka if you haven't already done so. It was a new brand for us but very good. The best coffee is at the Bar on Deck 1. Cabin: We had a PV1 cabin on deck 6. It was very roomy and had all ammenities we could ask for. I loved the heated bathroom floor. We used the balcony quite often. I might consider a less expensive cabin on a future trip but would try to get the highest deck possible. I suspect all cabins are very comfortable. I had though the alcohol in the mini fridge might be worth the upgrade but we never used it. Note that you don't need electrical adaptors. Before the cruise I had read complaints of not enough storage. We had plenty and didnt even use some of the drawers in the cabin. Laundry: I have had a laundry package on another cruise and missed it on Viking. However, twice we took laundry down the hall and it really was no problem. Sometimes the laundry with only 3 washers and dryers can get crowded. Entertainment: We went to several shows and really enjoyed them. However, Lorile's piano playing in the Living Room and other venues may have been our favorite. At night you will enjoy strings, piano, etc in many of the public areas. We found it better to tune in to port talks on the tv rather than live. We went to one "expert talk" and found it terrible. The others could have been good but we never went back. Overall: The trip was excellent. Even with over 900 guests, the ship really never felt crowded (other than the buffet at certain times). I will mention that the guests were an older crowd. I'm 66 and felt very young! We found many couples in our age group and enjoyed meeting many new folks but there were certainly a large number of older and less able folks on the ship. One thing to note is although thre was a staff member available to book another cruise there was absolutely no pressure to do so. You had to go to her office to do so and never felt any pressure to book. I will take another Viking trip in the future. Read Less

This was the first Viking Cruise we have taken, previously having sailed with Disney. The whole ship exudes quality both from the quality of furnishings, food and crew. The transfer arrangements went smoothly and without hitch. We had a starboard cabin on deck 5 (5053) which had everything we needed and exceeded the quality of Disney product. The self service restaurant was where we had breakfast and lunch and food and choice were excellent. Evenings we are in The Restaurant which was waiter service and had the most wonderful server in Sophia - a credit to Viking, in our view. The food was well presented and delicious. One night we ate in Manfredis which was Italian specialty and delicious. We didn’t visit the Chefs Table but did lunch a couple of times in Madsens, the Scandinavian restaurant which was excellent. My only criticism was that some guests seemed to get to eat in Manfredis regularly and there should be limitations so that everyone can benefit! I have to say that the entertainment team were awesome led by Cruise Director Bevin, no mean singer in his own right either. His assistant Brian Rodriguez had an amazing voice and the vocalists Dan, Becky, Maddy and Damien performed shows each night that would not have disgraced the West End and backed by a terrific band. The crew from Capt Olav downwards were friendly and could not do enough for us. Special mention for Olex our barman as well. Shore excursions lived up to Vikings cultural enrichment theme and were well organised. We have already booked our next cruise whilst onboard! Read Less

I would like to comment on the excellent experience we had with my wife at Viking Sky. Before leaving, we had apprehensions regarding entertainment on board and the age of the passengers. We are not young (58 and 46 years old) but we knew that the average age was higher. The truth is that although the average age is higher, it was very nice for us to be on the boat without children or teenagers, without a casino, without photographers, without sellers of trinkets. the shows were of quality, the conferences very interesting, the first level gym, the extraordinary spa, the fantastic living rooms to read, the swimming pools with sun loungers available, the exceptional food both in the buffet and in the restaurant, always, and I insist, always with tables available for dinner, breakfast and dinners. This is our 15th cruise and we have used MCS, Costa, Royal, Azamara, Princess and Celebrity, and from all of the above we can say that Viking has been our best experience and best quality price ratio. If you want to travel to Russia the right way, do it with Viking Cruises. Viking took exemplary care of their guests, ensuring that all of us were in good hands throughout our stay in St. Petersburg. Once you get past the brilliantly-designed ship, the fantastic food and the enriching lectures - it all boils down to the destination. And Viking makes sure that the destination shines. They have the most brilliant and hard-working shore excursion team, complemented by an amazing on-board team. I still can’t get over the impeccable design, the attention to detail in every way possible, and the attentiveness of the staff and crew. Quite simply put: this is a “no-brainer” - book a Viking Ocean Cruise ASAP. Here are some quick tips: Dining While everyone raves about Mandredi’s, I thought the real star of the ship was The Chef’s Table. It offers a 5-course chef’s tasting menu, and the menu revolves on a nightly basis. The best one was The Scandinavian Bistro. It was delicious! If you are timing your reservation correctly, choose the evening that serves that theme. When making reservations on myvikingjourney.com pre-departure, they will tell you the theme for the night. The Restaurant was also fabulous. Make sure to order from the Destination Menu - it was always delicious. And make sure to try the Chairman’s poached salmon - absolutely yum. Saving the best for last - my absolute fave: Mumsen’s. I are there almost everyday. Try the following: the waffles, open faced sandwiches (the best was the liver, bacon and mushroom sandwich - OMG!). Service Fantastic! Friendly, timely and personal. The best example of this was in St. Petersburg where the officers personally made sure every passenger successfully made it through immigration - leaving and returning. I felt totally cared for. My only suggestion for improvement is for the upper class cabins (Penthouse Junior Suites) to have a Personal Concierge. That would have been fabulous. Cabins Gorgeous, beautiful interiors! Nothing to fault with the cabins. I love the heated floors. Shore Excursions Best Shore Excursion team in the high seas!! That team took such good care of everyone. Top notch, hard-working team. Special shout out to Alaina, Therena and Geraldine - these ladies were incredible. I still think they should make Alaina’s St. Petersburg port talk the permanent video in the port talk library. She was so funny! Entertainment Small but mighty team. Beven (Cruise Director) was wonderful and you can tell he loved entertaining us. The shows were small but the talent packed a punch. Incredible performers! Word of warning: once you go on a Viking Cruise, you’ll never want to try another cruise line. Be prepared for the best cruising experience of your life. My score: 9.5 / 10. Viking is not "world class cruising". I've had better service, amenities and food on carnival, norwegian and princess lines. I have never heard the word "no' so many times on a vacation. Their website displayed gym equipment on the sky that was not there: is there a spin upright bike? "no". I paid for premium alcohol because their free house wine is chilean. Do you have a ca cabernet or chardonnay? "no", a french bordeaux, no, and oregon pinot nior? -no. Champagne? Not included. Their "premium" wines are from south africa and australia. Is the main dining hall "the restaurant" open for a sit down lunch? - no - just buffet or burgers and hot dogs by the pool. At the italian restaurant manfredi's do you have linguine? - no just spaghetti. Meal times are short - the dining hall opens late and closes early. Nothing for breakfast but bread and coffee after 9;30 - even the buffet closed. Room service gets orders wrong. Excursions are rushed, no time to use a bathroom or shop and then waste time on promoting local businesses like herring tastings. It was obvious a lot of the staff was being trained and new (probably because they lost traumatized crew members after march 2019 "incident") every time i was getting over being annoyed at one lie, refused request, or misinformation there was another. The manager interrupted our breakfast asking me to take time to talk to her at her desk any time. I go down to her desk 20 minutes later, she is too busy, come back later. I never saw her again. The worst by far was our last full day in port in bergen. They couldn't wait until i left the next day to set the room for the next guests. I was shooed off my private balcony by the staff who came barging in to wash it - and even worse. I find a set of sheets in my previously filled dresser drawers. The maid came into my room while i was not there, opened my drawers and found one partial empty and filled it with a new set of clean linens for the next quest. I wasn't checking out until 9 am the next day!! It was still my room, my drawers, and a stranger was rummaging through them!!! You can't trust them. What is promised on their website is not on the boat: the amenities, the dining options, the drink options all not what is described in the website. Lies, refusals, misinformation and no apologies or anything to make up for it. You can't even trust them to keep you safe. 2 nights of rough seas throughout the night was unnerving because of the "incident" which is the word the crew used to describe the previous captain of the sky sailing into a horrible storm causing air lift evacuations. They had 3 ship accidents in 3 months 3/2019-6/2019. They are the worst cruise line in the industry. My recommendation is tauck. Tauck is world class cruising and the costs include everything so the same price. Don't risk your life or your vacation on viking. Read Less

This was our 4th Viking Ocean cruise and it pains me to only give the Orion a 4 star review. The Orion is definitely NOT an example of the Viking Ocean quality we have experienced on past cruises. Many new cruisers we talked to said they would not sail Viking again. Viking did a terrible job with communication. Our cruise documents stated we were sailing out of Yokohama, we sailed out of Tokyo Bay which created problems for those who booked hotels in Yokohama. Apparently due to the cruise being advertised as 23 days (it was 22 days) many had flights out of Vancouver the day after we arrived, plus Viking didn't have a berth for the ship so they offloaded our baggage in the middle of the night and then anchored in Vancouver Harbor. We had to tender for disembarkation. It was not as bad as it could have been but the next cruise pax were not allowed to board until 5:30 pm. that evening. FOOD: Manfredi's: food was sub par at best with entrees being so overcooked they were mostly inedible. The service was absolutely terrible. We ate there three times and cancelled our 4th reservation. Chef's Table: We had 4 meals there and most were excellent (didn't like the California one). The service was superior. For a 22 day cruise there were only 6 different menus so the choices were minimal. World Cafe: Eggs benedict under warming lights, no longer cooked to order. Omelette station nice, but the wait, long. The selection for both breakfast and lunch was tedious with most entrees tasting the same. All curries tasted alike. Sandwiched were no longer made to order. Main complaint however was the service with most waiters really not knowing what to do. At most breakfasts and lunches we were not offered beverages until our meal was almost finished. Restaurant: Most meals very good with a good selection to choose from. We would have liked to see some local offerings like Alaska Salmon, since we were in Alaska but none was offered. The service here was very spotty, some nights excellent, some nights not. In general most supervisors in the different restaurants seemed untrained and lazy, not really seeing the problems. Entertainment: Very good Port Talks: OK Enrichment: Very Good Cabin Stewards: Excellent Embarkation: Very good Disembarkation: Tenders Excursions: Nothing exceptional, except for expensive optional tours, mostly which were good. Planetarium: Interesting but a bit over hyped. Explorer's Lounger: Excellent servers We have signed up for another Viking Ocean Cruise so haven't given up on Viking. We just feel the crew in general needed more direction and training. Read Less

Based on our cruising experiences with Viking, we expected another great cruise. They did not disappoint! However, we specifically chose this cruise because of the itinerary. Number one destination for us was St. Petersburg so the fact that Viking offered us three full days there "sealed the deal." In addition our other two highly desired ports were Copenhagen and Tallinn. The Viking Jupiter is the newest having just started sailing this Spring. It is a beautiful ship. There are so many great spaces...the reading nooks, the pool area with pool grill, the theater, the spa, etc. And it never felt crowded! Last year we cruised the Mediterranean on the Viking Star and loved our cabin and its location on the same level as the pool, tea garden, World Café, and Explorer's Lounge. So we had the same cabin # on the Jupiter. We ate most of dinner meals in the World Café. The quality is outstanding and the service is wonderful. And again, never seemed overcrowded. We did eat a couple of meals in The Restaurant but just preferred to dine at our own pace since the food in the World Café was top-notch. The staff is outstanding, too. We commented often as to their friendliness and "going the extra mile." Another plus with Viking is the inclusion of a comprehensive shore excursion at each port. We always had a positive experience and it was only in St. Petersburg that we booked our own tour with a local guide. We have already booked our next cruise with Viking! Read Less

Jupiter is a brand new ship. We chose a veranda penthouse cabin which was very spacious. Traveling on the Jupiter was extremely easy. Embarkment was flawless and disembarkation was also flawless. Our three nights in St. Petersburg were great. Highly recommend the metro excursion and Hermitage Behind the Scenes excursions. Very port was terrific from Copenhagen to Stockholm. We arrived a day early to enjoy Copenhagen and stayed two extra nights in Stockholm. Thoroughly enjoyed the pool grill for lunch, The Restaurant for breakfast and dinner, Mamsem’s for breakfast and Manfredi’s for dinner. Variety and preparation of food is outstanding. Explore’s lounge was our favorite place to relax prior to dinner. Lectures covered a wide range of topics. Entertainment was excellent too. The silver package for a variety of wines and cocktails was a great value. Our cabin was cleaned twice a day. The housekeeping staff was terrific. This was our first Ocean Cruise and we look forward to traveling on the Viking line in the future. Highly recommend this cruise. Read Less

Viking always does it the right way. Just about everything you would expect is provided and included. Excellent service, embarkation was a fast and efficient, boarding, bag delivery prompt, cabin room ready and pristine ( the cabin attendants were excellent, prompt and great attending your personnel requests) Meals as always were great, a selection as always for what pleases you on each meal. Spa and fitness is great and easy to do your own workout or experience the ships offerings. Excursions are plentiful and depending on your preference very good. We feel very comfortable on any of the Viking cruise offerings, either river of ocean. The ship is a smaller ocean cruise liner but has all the features you may want, there are no water slides or other features that younger couples and families would require, it is more an mature adult atmosphere where comfort, great food and drink are appreciated in a slower pace than other large cruise ships provide. Overall it was and great experience and will book again with Viking on my next vacation. Read Less

We booked our flights through Viking and 2 days before departure, we were informed by Viking that our flights had changed from SAS to Lufthansa. (SAS gave us the same information 1 DAY before departure!) Times were very similar, we arrived :15 later than the SAS flight. The reason for the last minute change was due to an SAS strike. I mention this because when I tried to contact LF to select my seat, the airline said I had to do it at the airport. It was a bit stressful. I called Viking Air. They immediately jumped into action and got all our seats together! We were a party of 4. Great service by the Viking Air staff! When we arrived at the airport in Copenhagen, there we Viking Staff available throughout baggage claim to help direct us to the busses. At the Pier, we checked in relatively quickly and our rooms where available right away. Our bags were in our room within an hour of our arrival! We made reservations for Manfredi's and The Chef's Table on line before sailing. During the 11 days, we were able to get into both restaurants a couple more times! We were not interested the the evening shows, so I can't really comment on them, however we did like Matthew, the guitarist who played :45 sets around the ship. Included shore excursions were OK. I think it was hit and miss with the tour guides and they tended to be larger groups than the optional excursions. The best optional tour we took was the Soviet Flashback in Estonia. Although I have to add that if you are more interested in visiting the old part of the city, you should do this tour in the AM instead of the afternoon. I would have liked more time in Estonia. We used Alla Tours for our 3 day St Petersburg tours. I can't say enough about them! Svletlania was a great guide for our 3 days! I would use them again and again! The service on the ship was wonderful. It was our first Viking cruise. We have cruised other large ships and have not received the same service as we did this last 11 days. Great job by all! Vlad, Alex, Vickie, Shelia. All FANTASTIC! Read Less

We were looking for a convenient way to visit Scandinavia and this cruise really fit the bill. Our biggest disappointment was Gothenburg, it can be removed from the cruise. Our favorite stop was Oslo and is worth two days. Vigeland Park was great because a fantastic guide, whose passion for the artist was contagious. The Chiefs Table is incredible and Manfredi’s is fantastic for special meals well which have to be prearranged. The Senic Sailing Brunch on the last sail day was the Brunch we have ever experienced. The staff were all friendly and went out of their way to make our stay very memorable. Mr Geremy Paterson did a fantastic job walking us through The Bayeux Taperisty and bringing it alive. Due adverse weather we had to change our port of call from Skagen to Aalborg Denmark. Which is a really charming town and showed how flexible the cruise line is with a smaller ship. Read Less

I always wanted to go to the Scandinavian countries and this cruise was the perfect opportunity. The cruise would be over my birthday, but I saw it as a bit of a present. The cruise was great. We were picked up at the airport and taken to the ship. Our bags were brought to our cabin and our ship board stay had begun. My brother and I had done the pre-cruise visit to Stockholm. That was a beautiful city. From there we flew to Copenhagen to board the ship. It was our second voyage on the Viking Sky. We had been on the maiden voyage of the ship, a Mediterranean trip from Rome to Barcelona. We found it to be the same well appointed, well run vessel. We took a slight upgrade on our cabin so that we might have a little more space. Actually I think my brother took it so that he could be closer to the Buffet dining restaurant where we took most of our meals. The food was wonderful. On our trip we had a selection of fish every day on the menu. There were numerous activities on bord with port of call lectures and points of interest to see. The service was excellent. I can honestly say I never encountered even one disagreeable staff member on board. All were friendly, courteous and helpful. The ports and shore tours were well prepared and presented. We had several tour guides who had personal stories to tell about the cities. The care and preparation of the entire cruise was well thought out and executed. There were of course some glitches, which are to be expected, but they were so few and far between the preponderance of wonderful moments, I can scarcely recall them. Read Less

Because we had taken a Viking river cruise in China, we wanted to try an ocean cruise, particularly to an area we had not previously visited. The Scandinavian itinerary appealed to us. Newly retired, I chose a September date. We can now travel any time of the year! After the heat of a Nashville summer, cool temps in northern Europe beckoned. Viking more than met our expectations of a wonderful cruise experience. Our cabin was well equipped with a wonderfully comfortable bed and unusually large bathroom. Dining on board was a delight because of the delicious food available in all of the restaurants. With fewer than 900 passengers on the ship, we never felt crowded or rushed when we went to eat. Viking has a seasoned system for taking care of passengers. Our room key cards were used to check on and off the ship; the ship's daily news was delivered to our cabin every day. The TV screen in our cabin offered not only entertainment but also news and information about the ship. Over and over again, we found the crew members to be pleasant and helpful. Our cabin steward Adonis was always eager to help. We particularly enjoyed the lectures about Vikings and Anne Frank, and we loved the design of the ship. No smoking, no casino, no children--We thoroughly enjoyed our ocean cruise with Viking and look forward to sailing with Viking again. Read Less

I have heard very good comments about Viking cruises and this is was my first one. I was VERY pleased with the cruise and loved that so many things were included in the cruise price. The included tours at each port were very interesting and the tour guides were excellent. I was very impressed with the food selections on the buffet line and it was so nice to have wine and beer included with our meals. It was great to be on a smaller ship (950 passengers) as we are usually on hips that hold 2,500+ I really liked the atmosphere with fewer passengers. All the staff we encountered--in the public dining room, formal dining rooms, even walking around the ship-- were friendly and helpful. I felt like we knew the staff personally. My only negative experience was related to our disembarkation as we and our friends (4 of us) had arranged for a taxi to a hotel in Amsterdam and paid $130 USD for our transportation through Viking. we were not familiar with the city and were upset to find that our hotel was located about 4 blocks from the pier and we could easily have walked there, but ended up paying an exorbitant amount for that taxi ride. I think the Viking staff should have contacted us and gave us a heads up on that. I would DEFINITELY do another Viking Cruise --it was wonderful Read Less

My husband was not ready for a river cruise, but we were no longer enjoying the mainstream cruises or Caribbean ports. The itinerary of Copenhagen to Amsterdam was very appealing as was an adults only ship. The Viking Sky and Viking ocean cruise line was awesome. We enjoyed the smaller ship, included excursions and friendly staff. We booked the pre-cruise package in Copenhagen and booked our airline through Viking which made the airport to hotel to cruise ship seamless. The only issue was a last minute cancellation of our flight, but Viking handled the re-booking and we would up on a more direct flight. The cabin was very comfortable (we loved the heated bathroom floors), the ships decor very nice, the lounge areas relaxing, the nordic spa experience (sauna to snow room) fun and the entertainment enjoyable (how many cruise directors sing opera and can give a one woman show?) We will definitely go on another Viking ocean cruise. Read Less

The locals greeted us with a band, the tour was very enlightening, our guide knowledgeable and the ramparts impressive. We also particularly enjoyed Hamburg. The Miniature Wunderland is truly a fabulous experience and the ultimate in train layouts and displays. We enjoyed seeing a bit of Oslo and the other cities along the way.. Having previously taken a Viking River Cruise in China and had a very positive experience we try - glad we did. The Viking Sun was the nicest ship we have sailed. Previously we have cruised on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Renaissance (Tahiti and out of business) eight cruises in total. This ship got it right in every respect. We ended up in a Junior Suite, cabin 6023. I was anxious that the location near the elevator may have been a problem, I called and was assured the cabins were almost sound proof - they were right. We had so much storage in terms of drawers that we did not even use them all. Lots of hanging space with a side for full length and another for full length. The bathroom had double sinks and a large shower. Heated floors and towel rack which were too hot had to cut them off but there is a control. Adequate water pressure and plenty of hot water with great fixtures in the shower. Two large televisions in the suite we only used the one in the sitting area which was very spacious with sofa, two chairs, coffee table and credenza/storage. The balcony was adequate, we had lunch there one day. No recliners just two chairs and a table. There were power curtains on the sliding doors and a second window floor to ceiling. Also a set of curtains between the sitting area and the bedroom were also powered. Mini bar was included in the price and stocked every day. Had a nice bottle of champagne on our welcome. Also champagne and a large cake on our anniversary! One nice perk is laundry and dry cleaning are included with the Junior Suite. FYI if you order same day service there is a charge I think 50%. Service was reliable. Cabin attendants were very good - friendly, thorough and service oriented. They worked in teams of two and really did a great job each day including de-wrinkling the bed spread and pillows each day. One "negative" for me was that drinks are included with meals, mini-bar is included as is room service 24 hours a day, but if you order a soft drink after 2:00pm when the dining room is closed you pay for it unless you do the Silver Spirits package - we do not drink much and chose not to do it. Mini Bar and room service were fine - just inconvenient and kind of silly since I could get it free in my room. One big negative was the excursions. Overall the excursions were lacking in terms of quality of information, amount of free time and audio equipment. To be clear the equipment which is stored in your cabin and you have to bring with you each time works fine but the guides in general were not familiar with it. Maybe new and over time will be fine. Had three solid guides Lisse in Copenhagen on the Pre-Cruise Extension, our tour to Lubek was very good and the tour to Voldendom the Windmills. We are photographers and really wanted more free time - in general we had 3-=45 minutes. Also you need to pay attention to the excursion descriptions when they say moderate trust that it is a bit strenuous. We had people with walkers and a broken leg trying to manage the excursions - felt bad for them because it was very challenging over cobbles, hills etc. Be honest for yourself and the others on the excursion. One thing that struck us on the cruise was that it never felt crowded. No matter where we went it was relaxing and pleasant. We dined at the World Cafe most evenings. Buffet was excellent in terms of choice and quality of food. Would recommend they place cream cheese by bagel toaster to avoid having to back track all the way to the first station from the last but otherwise really good food. Prime Rib was excellent. Manfredi's Italian was very good - I will say it was the loudest experience on the ship.It was full when we dined at 7:30pm and loud. by the time we left around 9;00 it was quiet. Explorers Lounge was a nice space as was the Winter Garden Tea Room! The cast for the entertainment was very good. Fun and friendly entertainers with themes that connected with the audience, Beatles, Abba, etc. The pre and post cruise extensions were not worth it for the money. The pre cruise in Copenhagen we stayed at the Radisson Blu Royal - great location and a beautiful view. Room was Euro 4 star not luxurious but adequate. The Movenpick in Amsterdam was not as good. Long walk to get to anything about a mile to the Central Train Station. There are other hotels closer into where everything is that they should have used. Hotel was tired and a bit dirty in the hallways. Room was adequate. Overall an excellent experience! Read Less

This cruise was chosen because of the cities visited and the length. Overall the boat was terrific, the food great, the room service sensational. We enjoyed the infinity pool everyday as the weather was beautiful. The shore excursion were good with some being better than others. I felt Swedens excursion could use an update. The staff tried its best to get my luggage on board, but alas I had no luggage for the whole trip. except for my carry on. I am not sure wether the fault was with the airline, Air Canada, or Viking. The upside was that I got what clothes I had cleaned free of charge. The spa experience was terrific and the entertainment was excellent. We also experience the medical facilities as my sister had a kidney stone issue. All in all the trip is one I will always remember for the good and the unfortunate. Read Less

We wanted to visit Scandinavia, and this cruise highlighted many of the areas we wanted to visit. We have been to Europe many times, but this was our first trip via cruise. We would like to take a river cruise next time. Our embarkation was excellent, and we were greeted right away after landing in Amsterdam. The food was out of this world! Every meal was awesome with wonderful service each time. Our staff members for our cabin were wonderful and very courteous and kind. The weather could not have been more perfect as well, so we thank the captain for arranging that for us, too :-). The port talks and TED talks that were available were all very informative, and the entertainment on board was excellent as well. I loved seeing so many wonderful books so readily available all around the ship as well. Thank you to all the staff for helping to make this such a wonderful experience. Read Less

This cruise was to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. We took advantage of a last minute cabin upgrade offer and were glad we did. The ship was beautiful and easy to get around. All the restaurants served delicious food and the service is always outstanding with their specialty restaurants particularly standing out. We enjoyed all of the shore excursions and took advantage of a couple of extra ones. This cruise took us to ports we haven't been too before. The local guides provide a wonderful perspective and offer personal bits of information making the tour more enjoyable. The staff is always pleasant with a smile and kind word when encountered. We are pleased with the house keeping and dining staff which we see several times a day. They are always helpful and quite responsive. We enjoyed the entertainment, especially having a live band to dance to. The port talks and enrichment lectures are worth attending. They are enjoyable, entertaining and educational. We can't wait for our next Viking cruise. Read Less

Overall, the cruise was wonderful. The excursions were excellent and the guides were well informed. One exception to the excursions was a guide that left part of the group without notice. Now, we bring a map supplied by Viking. The cabin had plenty of room, the bathroom was big, and well prepared every day. The food was tasty and plentiful. Did not like the special dress code for a few of the Viking restaurants. The size of the ship was small enough to enter the smaller harbors and was located near the city centers. We like Viking's policy of adults only on the cruises. A disadvantage of the Viking provided flights is Check-in is not an option the day before the flight, which is inconvenient. Our final flight was delayed for embarkation, but Viking made arrangements to pick us up at the airport on time to bring us to the ship. We like Viking and have booked our next Viking Cruise. It was part of a special Viking promotion. The ship, itself, was excellent and the service was excellent. The Restaurant meals were excellent and the waitstaff was efficient and friendly. We were disappointed in some of the included shore excursions as we felt as if we had not gained a sense of the city. The exceptions to that were Oslo, Norway, where we had an outstanding tour guide and Hamburg, Germany, where we had more time to get a feel for the place. The visit to Skagen, Denmark, was good, although our tour guide didn't give us a chance to stop and take in individual sites. But it was a beautiful little city with friendly people and interesting shops. It would have been good to drop one of the Danish stops and add a Norwegian stop. If we were going to take the cruise again, I think I would sign up for some of the optional tours to get a better sense of the towns. Read Less

A friend suggested it because it was new and had an interesting itinerary. I had been on a Viking tour of China so was familiar with the company. I was very impressed. The ship is lovely, the service is excellent, wine with lunch and dinner was included and was very good and generously poured and the places we visited were interesting. I liked the entertainment and the lounges. We were in room 4094, a medium priced choice. Very nice and quiet as well. We ate in both specialty restaurants - the Italian themed one was very good - as well as in the dining room and the buffet. We were able to eat some lunches and dinners out on the deck and that was very nice. When I got back home I told all my friends that I wouldn't go on any other cruise line besides Viking. The good news is that they are building a lot more ships in this same style! Read Less

Informal, impromptu, catered to our every need, every detail covered. Super easy getting on and off. Definitely going again on the Mediterranean next time. Great local guides, the sound devices give you freedom of movement during tours. The ship never has to tender, we can always dock and just get off and walk around. We love walking, and these cities are built for it. The Danish towns of Skagen and Fredericia were just lovely, the people so welcoming and friendly. These lovely small towns said farewell to our ship with their little marching bands! We loved Copenhagen, too, extended there on the start of the trip. Kiel, Hamburg and the Kiel Canal were also highlights. Entertainment on board was exceptional, as were the historical folks on board. Lots of food choices, never had to get too dressed up, we were able to dine when and where we wanted without having to make a reservation. Read Less
