Weather
First of all we were very lucky with the weather throughout the whole voyage, very little rain if any, bright sunny days cold at times but not freezing. Managed to get away with just jeans, a t-shirt and long-sleeved fleece jacket most days.
The sea was calm almost every day, close to pond like a few times even when we travelled down the west coast of Ireland from Reykjavik on our ...
We booked the cruise on the strength of the itinerary, which held up very well apart from two key changes. The changes are based on the fact that one of the engines on the ship is not at full strength, so speed is limited. This meant we were quite late getting to Bergen (one of my bucket list ticks...) and we wouldn't be having an overnight in Reykjavic (something we had planned for to be able to ...
We completed this cruise at the weekend and here is my short review. These are based on our party of 4, 2 of us seconded time with Princess but have sailed on other lines and 2 first timers
Pros
Love the ship – although a covered pool would be useful
Entertainment – Enjoyed all the shows we saw and thought they were a very high standard -especially the Beatles tribute act and “The ...
We were forced to cancel a cruise including Iceland due to Covid so we were looking forward to this trip. The ports in Norway were great with beautiful fjords and villages. We had 4 ports in Iceland and felt we were rewarded with great weather and a an immersive experience. We learned a lot about the history and life on this island nation.
As for the Sky Princess, everything was as expected ...
Great itinerary, 4 Norway ports and 4 Iceland ports. Even though weather predictions were not so good. It turned our great, no rain, winds do-able so ship made it to all the ports. Relatively clear skies so saw tops of all mountains, graciers and waterfalls. DW and I are elite with Princess so are very experience cruisers as well as sailed with other cruiselines. But the quality has gone ...
Embarkation was very efficient. From arriving at the terminal we were checked in and on board in about 40 minutes. We were given our medallion at check in.
The medallion worked very well and unblocked our cabin without fail every time we approached. The tv and information system was clunky at first but improved after we sailed .
Our cabin was lovely if a bit tired but was kept spotlessly ...
This cruise was quite telling about the degree of cutbacks Princess is implementing trying to regain financial stability at the expense of decreasing the quality of goods and services provided. At first, it did not make too much of a difference in not having any stationary or writing instrument in the cabin but then the soap bars disappeared. Now with the new medallions for the medallion class ...
I booked this cruise because it went to Iceland. Little did I know that it was an "old" ship that had a myriad of problems and a staff that was clearly not putting the guest first.
I've never been under house arrest, but I expect this was pretty close - wearing the tracking device, having no say in anything and having to just shut up and put up.
From noise that kept me up at night (got my ...
We drove from Ickenham to Southampton and parked our car in Triangle car park from where we took a taxi to the Mayflower terminal. The cost of the car park including return taxi transfer to terminal was half the price Princess approved car parking was charging.
We were at the terminal by 11.30am. Check in was very swift and once we got our medallions, we were onboard the beautiful Sky Princess ...
I had sailed on the Sky Princess last June and found the service to be poor to average only - short staffed and some lack of training was evident. But this time, although the ship was at capacity, service much improved, and the food better quality (and, at last, hotter!). Only saw one show and spent all my time in the evenings in the jazz club, Take 5. Jazz trio out of this world, you would pay a ...
