We chose this 3 night barge cruise to enhance our vacation experience while visiting Paris for a week, and we were not disappointed. Thanks to a very attentive crew and pleasant accomodations on the river barge "RAYMONDE", we were treated to an emersive experience in Parisian culture and city life. The barge was initially docked at the base of the Eiffel Tower when we boarded on day 1. We stayed there overnight with a fabulous view of the Tower at night and the busy river scene of passing sightseeing boats and dinner cruises. On day 2, the barge sailed on the Seine River and then on to a canal which took us through interesting locks and tunnels to a quiet neighborhood in Paris. From there, we embarked on a city tour of Paris via tour bus. The Raymonde overnighted in this quiet neighborhood. On Day 3, we did another bus tour in the morning before leaving to sail back through the locks to the Seine for our return trip to our original embarkation point where we again overnighted. While onboard the Raymonde, we were treated to gourmet meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) prepared with loving care by our chef Remy. Lunch and dinner were accompanied by fine wines selected to complement each course served. We were treated like family by everyone in the crew, and were sad to leave. I recommend this experience to couples and families who want more than just staying in a hotel and seeking out places to eat while in Paris. Thanks to the crew of the Raymonde for an adventure we will never forget. Read Less

My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary on board in Paris. We made friends with fellow cruisers as river boats provide a more intimate setting and promote these connections. It was great to be in good company even though we were travelling alone. Our room was amazing with the panoramic balcony! Imagine lying in bed with open curtains watching picturesque scene after scene pass by as the ship slowly navigates the Seine. We only did that one day but it was worth it! Neither of us had ever been to France and were very pleased with the service and assistance from the entire crew! Dietary preferences were stated during the first day and we had to ask for "Cheating" to be allowed due the genuine care of the dining staff. We followed dinner with dancing to live music almost every night too. The entire cruise was simply wonderful! Read Less

All the staff were friendly ,helpful and great fun whilst being very professional. We even had a artist on board giving portrait lessons which were very educational and fun.We visited such things as Monets Garden, richard the lionhearts castle ,Rouen , Normandy Beaches and cemetary and MoulinRouge. We would highly recommend this cruise to anyone who wants to enjoy top class cruising.Well DONE UNIWORLD Read Less

We thought this would be a slow-paced itinerary, since geographically it doesn't cover much ground, but it ended up being quite busy. The included tours were very well organized and had great guides. We had the same one; Estelle for 4 cities and she was fantastic. Really knew her stuff and was easy to understand even though English was not her first language. The ship itself was gorgeous, very clean and well laid out. Our favourite part was the stateroom. Best shower I've ever had on a ship and the Panorama window was awesome. I wouldn't trade that for a tiny balcony, thats for sure. Food was consistently good. Nothing overly adventurous, but good options that felt relatively healthy (not much deep fried or greasy food) and we liked that it had a taste of the region. The cheese plates at breakfast/lunch & dinner were always terrific. We also enjoyed the savory and sweet crepes in the lounge on a few days of the trip. Overall not much to complain about... a few times they ran out of things, which I didn't really understand since we're in port almost the entire trip, but it happened. Ran out of beer, Coke and that sort of thing periodically. Also, if you're a smoker, the back lower smoking area can have a really bad diesel smell when the ship is moving. That wasn't very pleasant, but easy to avoid. Terrific tour director that was always available and answered all our questions. We were very happy with this cruise and would recommend it to anyone looking to see Normandy in-depth. Read Less

We had a fabulous time. This was my first river cruise and I realy enjoyed the experience. We spent 4 days in Paris before the cruise and that would of been vacation enough. By the time we boarded the ship I did so much in Paris that I felt I had already been there a week. Embarkation was a breeze, I checked out of the hotel eiffel siene (really cute and great location) and took a short taxi ride to the Pullman hotel. As soon as I entered the hotel, the staff took my bags to the Avalon piles. Then I had time for a quick jaunt to the Luxembourg gardens which were beautiful! At around 3:30 the busses took us over to the pier to our beautiful ship! The service, crew, food, and room were all fabulous! There is really a difference in the level of service between a big ship and a small ship like the tranquillity II. The excursions on the cruise were educational and wonderful. All the guides were great and the busses and the organization were top notch. The towns along then seine were all beautiful. Be sure to climb the hill at Les andelyes, half of my family didn't go and regretted it when I said how easy the climb was. We did two optional excursions to Versailles and honfleur. It was a busy week but I was thrilled with everything. If you want a less busy week, don't get any extra excursions. Disembarkation was easy too, all you need is a color sticker on your bag, and we waited in the lounge till our group was called. I would definately take another Avalon cruise, in fact I have 2 more planned! Read Less

This was the best river cruise ever and we have done several. Every aspect was wonderful from the luxury of the boat, the fabulous meals, the generous excellent quality wines, the amazingly friendly and helpful staff for whom nothing was too much trouble despite tipping being all inclusive, not to mention the carefully constructed itinerary which allowed for maximum sight seeing with plenty of opportunities for relaxation. We cruised through Normandy which is rich in history and also has some very beautiful scenery. Scenic seems to definitely have the edge, providing their customers with lots of delightful little extras like the very practical rucksacks we received before departure, the high quality, glossy guide book we found in our cabin and the much better than average pair of slippers, all complementary, as indeed was the mini bar, restocked twice a day. What more can I say, apart from that we shall certainly choose Scenic again. Read Less

We always wanted to see Normandy and the site of the D-Day Invasion. Chose Avalon because it was recommended to us. We were more than satisfied with the whole experience. The food was amazing. There were always enough choices. The service was impeccable. The entire crew couldn't do enough for you. The Concierge Desk was full of information. If they didn't have an answer for you at the moment, they would research it and come up with suggestions/solutions. The shore excursions were top notch. The guides were knowledgeable and fluent in English. The ship was very clean. We went on a galley tour one afternoon and were amazed at how sparkling clean the kitchen was. We are planning another Avalon River Cruise for next year. We will look forward to working with an Avalon Representative. Our last experience gives us confidence that we will again achieve the same enjoyable result. Read Less

We had traveled with Viking before (Danube) and were very satisfied. My husband"s mother is very frail and the risk free offer really meant a lot to us. Paris was one of the few international cities that we had not visited. First time on a Long Boat (Rolf). We were met with a smile at Charles DeGaulle Airport. Crew went out of their way constantly. The cabin was well appointed and the bed was so comfortable. The ship was quiet at night so sleeping was a real nice dream. Dining was just wonderful. Food was fabulous! We like picking a different group to dine with each meal if we wanted. We met so many wonderful people. Entertainment was small but really well done. Loved the piano in the bar. The player was really talented. The crew was so helpful and cheerful. Loved the shore excursions. Especially the trip to Josephine and Napoleon's house and Normandy. Monet's Garden was just lovely. The Lourve was crowded and the many stairs were difficult to maneuver, but glad we saw the Mona Lisa, although anticlimactic. Dress was business casual or casual. My husband brought a sport coat and never wore it. No fancy dress for the capitan's dinner. I have told friends and family that we will travel only with Viking. Read Less

We choose this cruise because it went to the Normandy Beach landings. All the other excursions were icing on the cake. We have told all our friends and family what a wonderful cruise it was. The customer service by all the employees was outstanding. The daily update meeting for what the next day would bring was very informative. The food was THE BEST EVER!. I enjoyed the wine that was recommended to drink at each dinner too! We are currently planning on a next cruise with Viking. We have done ocean cruises in the past, but I prefer the river cruise. It was more quaint and we got chances to meet many wonderful people that we currently are still in touch with. This river cruise was I feel that best value for the money spent. It included the excursions, the airport transfers, breadfast, lunch & dinner. The complimentary wine with lunch and dinner was over the top! In the best way!!. Read Less

We cruised for 6 nights upon the luxurious and warm setting of the barge Adrienne. We were picked up from Paris, France and driven to Dijon on a private luxury bus which followed the barge for subsequent excursions. We were welcomed aboard by 6 fabulous, humorous, and charming crew. All the cabins were similar in set up with either twin or king bed, writing area, and marble bathroom with Bulgari toiletries. Food was incredible. Prepared by a masterful chef, Frederic, each dish was presented to us highlighting preparation, regional ingredients etc. Lunch and Dinner included wine tastings and cheese tastings. We travelled off the boat in the morning on foot or on bicycle, strolling along the pastoral farm lands near the canal, popping into small villages or wineries. After lunch, we were shuttled to various regional highlights, Beaune, Chalon sur Saone, medieval castles, and ancestral homes. Crew: Louise, Camille, Charles, Loic, Frederic and our Captain, Anna. Enough cannot be said about how quickly they made us feel at home and comfortable. Because we travelled with teenagers, Anna accomodated some changes and found an amazing excursion in Givry called Acrogivry. The teens proclaimed it the highlight of their trip to France! We dined at the Lameloise restaurant where we were delighted by the creative cuisine. On final day, we were taken to TGV and delivered safely back to Paris. Don't hesitate to join the Adrienne! I chose this ship originally for the itinerary -- mainly Normandy and Giverney. The Seine River caused a few problems from all the rain it was quite high. We needed to be transported to Rouen to board the ship. From start to finish the tour director Jean Lund did an absolutely fabulous job during the entire cruise. Faced with adversity he managed to reroute the cruise and still keep everyone more than satisfied. The staterooms were wonderful. This is my 3rd Avalon River cruise and I love them. The dining, entertainment and shore excursions were great. Also, to note what a 'class act' Avalon is --- They gave passengers an opportunity to not sail and for those that chose to stay on the ship gave all 1/2 off their fare!! They also included all shore excursions (while most are included) they included ones that had charges. When we couldn't return to Paris by ship they put us on the motor coaches back to the hotel. They gave us money for lunch both days and included a fabulous dinner both evenings with free flowing wine. Wonderful cruise and exceptional cruise line!!! Read Less

This is our 4th River Cruise and have enjoyed everyone. No pressure and staff are great looking after your needs. The meals on board are always great and there is a wonderful variety of foods for all taste. Our Butler always made special attention to our requirements and on this cruise like the past we arranged for afternoon tea with friends in our room most days so we could enjoy a relaxing afternoon. Normally we would have 2 other couples with us make 6 which is the right size. Port and Shore excursions met our needs as per the documentation. The tour guides are especially good and imparted their knowledge of the varies tourist sites. Ship - Scenic Diamond is always spotless and the staff look after all on board. The Cruise Directors are interesting people who manage the impossible and seem to exceed your expectations - wonderful managers of the customers, guides and buses etc. We feel very confident in Scenic to deliver and they do. We have already booked 2 river cruises for 2017 and the new Discovery for 2019. Read Less

This was our first river cruise with AMA Waterways and our third river cruise overall in addition to six ocean cruises. Like the other two river cruises, AMA Waterways did an outstanding job of providing a great itinerary, extensive service, a wonderful boat and crew, and gourmet dining. We enjoyed the floor to ceiling sliding glass door on our room's French balcony. WiFi was available throughout the boat. Our ride was the most quiet of the three river cruises we have taken. The upbeat crew of 42 (Vinny, Jullien, Alex, Boyan and Dragon, to name a few) seemed to have as good a time as we were having. Our fellow (119) travelers were mostly American with a few from places like Canada, England, and New Zealand. Most people dressed as advised in "country club casual." There was a variety of attire. AMA Waterways provides free beer and wine at lunch and dinner. There was also a special Chef's Table made available for 24 each night that served a five or six course gourmet dinner in a glass enclosed room with a view at the rear of the boat. There were about 20 bikes available for excursions, umbrellas for everyone, a jacuzzi, outdoor lounge chairs, and a fitness center. Twice we were entertained by female vocalists singing French songs. The electrical outlets are the typical two prong European plugs, but adaptors and converters are available. The excursions were exceptional. AMA Waterways showed their class and flexibility when we encountered a rising Seine River forcing us to stay in one town several nights. They brought in buses to complete the excursions (always with headsets to facilitate hearing). To us, it looked effortless. But, there must be quite a support group within AMA Waterways. At the end of our trip, four of us had a late flight departure. We were driven in a private car to CDG airport and met at the curb by an AMA Waterway representative (Mustafa) who escorted us through the entire check-in procedure up to security. Another example of outstanding AMA Waterway detailed service. Read Less

We selected this cruise on the recommendation of our travelling companions. My wife and I have cruised extensively, but never a "river" cruise. As we are now retired, we also wanted to check a few things off the "bucket list" and Paris was high on the list. The travel from Eastern USA to Paris was lengthy. As we arrived on the day of embarkation, we brought with us a fair amount of jet lag. Next time we will make the time to spend 2-3 days at our destination first. Viking has such programs available, but we were unable to synch it with our fellow travelers. The reception and boarding were fuss-free. The Kadlin is a small but well appointed tri-deck ship that is well designed and easily accommodates the 320 or so passengers. As we cruised north to Normandy, the pace was slow and easy and the ride was smooth. Scenery was spectacular. The (included) excursions were well run and quite enriching. Our visits to Paris (day and night), Rouen, Les Andelys, Vernon (Monet's garden at Ginverny) and especially the Normandy beaches made indelible memories. The food was excellent and, of course, included in the fare...as was a fairly good wine selection with meals. The cruise director and his staff were friendly, very approachable and professional. The cabin and balcony was about the same size as we were used to on ocean cruises. Entertainment was good - but the aforementioned jet lag made us less than "party animals" the first 2-3 nights. The atmosphere of the ship was sedate - no kids and most passengers were retirees like us. This isn't Carnival.... The only "issue" we had was not Viking's fault. The tour of Versailles was cancelled at the last minute due to a French employee strike. I am given to understand that such actions are as frequent as rain there. The cruise director offered instead to bring us to Montserrat - which excited both myself and my bride - but the tour members on the bus "voted" to return to the ship. Instead, we spent the day in a local suburb of Paris and actually had a great time touring the local scene - but I would have rather seen Montserrat. Oh well. All in all, I will cruise again with Viking. Indeed, we are heading out to the Caribbean on an ocean cruise with them next month. These folks know their business and value your time and your patronage. Although I would expect no less, I rarely see it on many of the cruise lines I have used. Well done, gents. Read Less
