Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Torgil

Picked the cruise up at Porto for our anniversary. The first 2 nights service and food was 5 star. After that things went downhill quickly, allegedly the chef was taken to hospital. This should not have made any difference. Service in the restaurant was slow, if you don't order a starter your main course can arrive an hour later! Plates were not cleared from the previous course or cutlery not ...

Good array of ports/transportation plans poor

River cruising on the Rhine/Mosel provided us with the overview of first-time European visit. The stops were adequately timed, the river boat staff was helpful and the arrangements made for the shore excursions by Grand Central were very well done. There were significant problems with the hearing devices allowing us to hear the guides that were not addressed until about half way through the ...

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Douro Elegance

My husband chose this cruise to celebrate his 70th birthday. We have done many ocean cruises on various cruise lines and one river cruise - the Mekong. I had done a considerable amount of research into all the cruise companies who offered cruises on the River Douro and chose Riviera Travel because of its reputation in the UK and the fact that the Douro Elegance was a new ship. The lauded five ...

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Vili

First Time Cruiser • Age 70s

This was our first (and last?) river cruise. While it was nice seeing all the cities along the way and only having to unpack once, the time spent on the ship was quite boring. There is very little to do due to the smallness of the ship. The top deck was closed for 3 consecutive days due to the low bridges we went under. The entertainment mostly was just the piano player and a female singer. ...

Avalon Not As Delightful

First, we are delighted we visited Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania! Each country had such a rich, interesting, and often troubling history. I appreciate the opportunity to learn and see a part of the world I haven't gotten to experience before.Budapest is a must see and a delight! It's a very approachable city, with so much to see and do. The public transportation system is easy to use ...

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Emily Bronte

After a few ocean cruises it was time to try something different. Riviera was a local company so wishing to support a local business, a cruise Rhine Danube cruise on 'Emily Bronte' was chosen. The original booking was made in 2015, but due to health problems was not able to travel in 2016. Unfortunately lost fare, but rebooked and repaid to travel this year. So you probably can guess how ...

We chose the Viking River of Gold cruise on recommendation by friends and in place of our Elbe River cruise in 2016 that was cancelled because of low water. In order to ensure we would have airport transfers to and from the ship we asked that Viking make our travel arrangements The start was a disaster. Viking had booked the last possible connection for us to Lisbon through Toronto which failed ...

Very very disappointing

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Kara

Overall this was a disappointing experience for us. The first few days on the cruise were excellent and up to our Viking expectations. This was followed by unacceptable situations: two days of no internet, no air conditioning, and toilet failure! We did not cruise the Middle Rhine on Viking Kara due to engine failure. Instead we waited for an hour, then bused to a substitute boat that was a ...

Wait until Tauck ms Treasures has been Updated

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on ms Treasures

This was our first Tauck cruise. The staff, food, and service were outstanding. Unfortunately, the cabins were not. We were later told that other ships Tauck uses from the Scylla Line had been updated to enlarge the cabins. We were surprised at the lack of space in our cabin, especially for the premium price, compared to those on other river river cruises where we paid less. The French ...

The Elegant Elbe - Berlin to Prague

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Astrild

Arrived in Berlin and spent 2 nights at the Intercontinental. Lovely hotel, although the bathroom was interesting, there was a huge window above the bathtub so you couldn't leave the light on for a nightlight and there was no nightlight for a very dark room. Also the temp seemed to be set for freezing, thermostat would not work for us. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and plentiful. I was ...
