Took a taxi directly to Vasa (great transport option) and toured with their guide, watched movie, wonderful to see, walked back to town across the bridge -easy and quick, went to changing of the guard, and Gamla Stan, taxi back to port

My favourite Baltic city, Vasa Museum a must see and an easy ferry ride from the Stadsgarden port (just €10). You need to allow 2 hours to see Vasa. From here we walked to the Old Town and enjoyed wandering here. Unfortunately we just missed seeing the changing of the guards at the Palace at 12 noon. We should have taken the ferry back to the ship but decided to walk and due to new roadworks being constructed we took a wrong turn and it subsequently took us a good hour to return to the ship. Wasa museum was one of the highlights of the whole trip. Again we took the shuttle bus for the same reason. Bigger than Helsinki and lots of places for food and drinks especially around the harbour area.

We split up so one group could see the Abba museum (disappointing) and the other Skansen (much larger than Seurasaari, but same idea, though fewer open buildings and less attractive environment, so not as good). Vasa museum was excellent and "worth a trip" (as Michelin guides would say). The cruise offered only buses with late departure + late return or early departure + early return. So we took an early train in and used their late bus to return (we had complimentary tickets because the ship should have gone to Stockholm directly, not Nyneshavn). Buy your Stockholm day train+bus+tram+ferry tickets in the Tourist Information office just off the boat, where you can also get tickets for the shuttles to the station (or walk there in 20 minutes yourself). The shuttle bus from Port to town centre was appreciated. However the driver didnt advise us on how to reach the old town (we thought we had been dropped off in the old town area) but unfortunately we ended up in the commercial area. We enjoyed a coffee in a local hotel and discovered exactly where we were. By then the heat of the day was ferocious and time was running out as we only had a few hours to visit. The cruise through the islands back into the Baltic was breathtaking. Read Less

The public transportation was a little harder to figure out in Stockholm. I believe the on and off boat would have been the best option to see what we wanted but we decided too late, so once again, we walked!! Comfortable shoes a must!!

We love Hop on Hop off and chose this in most every port. The WiFi and headsets did not work on most of these buses which was disappointing. I would not choose Hop on Hop off at Stockholm.
