Amazingly Informational, Exciting and Entertaining: The Grand Heartland Cruise of the Mississippi River

Review for a North America River Cruise on American Melody

We have cruised well over 900 days on ocean going ships and I wanted to try a river cruise. Having lived in Wisconsin and Illinois all our lives, we decided a cruise down the Mississippi River would be a good start. We embarked on the American Cruise Lines ship the Melody on November 4th at Red Wing, Minnesota. Embarkation was very smooth and probably took less than 15 minutes. Our itinerary ...

We cruised on the new American Symphony from Nov 2-7 2022. Our stateroom was spacious, very clean and the staff was very friendly. There seemed to be a disconnect with upper management and the staff when questions arose . So....Our river cruise on the Mississippi was cut short (not ACL's fault as the Mississippi was low). However other issues during the cruise left everyone perplexed on how to ...

Absolutely a disaster

We left New Orleans on November 2 and it went downhill from there. We are experienced travelers and thought a trip up the Mississippi would be fun, particularly for a shipping co. that claims to cater to seniors. WRONG!! This was a disaster. Before I note the reasons, let me positive...The ship was new! On the other hand: * The crew was terribly inexperienced. * 90% of the Management was ...

A disappointment for the price I paid!

I took a lower Mississippi River cruise on the American Cruise Line boat the Symphony November 2-9. The boat and our room was nice, food was good and the crew was very friendly. The entertainment was okay, and some of the excursions were good some were not. The long bus rides definitely made some of the excursions less desirable. My complaint was the low water level. ACL can't help the low water ...

We sailed November 2-9 on the American Symphony from New Orleans to Memphis. Less than 48 hours before sailing we were notified that we would be bused from Vicksburg to Memphis because of low river levels. The cruise line can't control the river levels, but this was a major change and they didn't offer any opportunity to cancel and get a refund. Once we got to Memphis the hotel and food ...

Disappointing in parts

The experience of travelling the Mississippi was great and ticked one of our bucket list items. The low water was disappointing and whilst we accept that the cruise company had no control over nature the lack of communication both before the cruise and during was disappointing. It would have been an easy task to advise customers in advance of the change of itinerary as it was known well in advance ...

Poor management and poor maintenance

We are very experienced travelers and have been on over 30 ocean cruises including voyages on Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Holland America, Norwegian, Celebrity, Azamara, and others. We were very disappointed with our experience on American Cruise Lines. This was the most expensive cruise per day onboard that we have paid and it was the poorest ship experience. I would say that we paid a ...

American Cruise Line (ACL) Doesn’t Disappoint

This was our first Mississippi River Cruise. American Cruise Line was fabulous from the moment we stepped onboard. American Jazz was beautifully appointed and the staterooms very roomy with a private furnished balcony. We so enjoyed the top notch nightly entertainment and cultural programs offered daily. We were able to explore many historical landmarks on excursions led by their knowledgeable ...

American cruise line has been my choice for a wonderful cruise two years. It is so easy to relax on board this ship. I had wonderful excursions they provided with bus just for us to go see at each port of call. The food was always good and service excellent. I loved all the professional entertainment they hired to come aboard and kept us dancing, singing and painting with them. This is a very good ...

We just got off the ship American Cruiseline's Spendor. Waiting at the airport now and cannot wait to write a review. We had so much fun. First of all the crew, director and right down to the last person on this ship was AAAA+++++. Everyone was so helpful, cheerful and personable. They really make the cruise smooth sailing for all. The food as usual was plenty and so good. So many good ...
