Lower Mississippi on American Countess

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American Countess

Thought this was an interesting itinerary and a group of 10 friends booked through local travel agent. Spent an extra night in New Orleans and stayed on an extra night in Memphis at the end of the cruise. Understaffing was evident from the time of required PCR testing the night before sailing. I spent an hour in line trying to register. They had only two representatives checking ID and ...

We had been on this lines American countess in the northwest 2 years ago and had a wonderful time. With all of the Covid precautions we felt very comfortable. The ship was lovely, but the trip began with a mechanical problem that held us over in New Orleans for an extra day. Being experienced cruisers we did not find this upsetting, besides, an extra day in New Orleans is a bonus. I do have to ...

No real regard for the needs of a handicapped passenger

Booked this cruise for my mom's 90th birthday celebration. When I requested a handicapped room, I was told all rooms are handicapped accessible. They were not. We spent the first day and a half waiting for an accessible room. I requested and received confirmation that we were seated for early dining as my mom needed to eat at a particular time, not at 8 pm in the evening. We boarded the ...

Not worth the high price

We wanted to do a paddleboat River Cruise and our friend that owns a travel agency suggested we try this ship. The ship and the crew were fantastic. However, we found no out that people that booked in the month before the sailing were given room upgrades and up to $1000 credit. Apparently so many people cancelled due to the ports being closed because of high water levels that the line needed to ...

Review for a North America River Cruise on American Duchess

Engine noise and vibration in our cabin and on the aft dining deck were bad. We had several equipment failures, delays getting off the boat in several ports and having to miss one port totally. Our tie-up in Hannibal was on the wrong side of the river as the American Queen got the better spot, really? Otherwise we could have walked right off and into town, one of the few ports whee the walk is so ...

This river cruise was to be the highlight ending a great tour of the Eastern USA. New Orleans and the Roosevelt hotel were great to experience. I found the American Duchess a poorly designed ship. The only access to our cabins was stairs at the front of the boat and this meant lots of walking the whole length of the boat to get to the public and dining areas at the stern. We were not allowed ...

Major disappointment

This was a major disappointment. Booked the loft suite level which is the Commodore level that comes with a butler. That concept was a joke. Never was given a tour of our suite and how to operate the mechanical drapes plus other perks that are outlined in their brochure. Food was marginal (my husband was served an untoasted english muffin) that was on the cold side already. Waiters messes up ...

We enjoyed a fabulous on this line's competitor ACL and decided to try this company on same route. We were sorely disappointed from first boarding! Other line allowed our son to aid mobility limited father to get settled in room and these folks were abrupt and rude to son, refusing to let him help and said boarding area was for ticked passengers only. Passengers were herded in groups and put ...

My friend and I did a 7 day cruise from New Orleans to Memphis. We had a mid range cabin on Deck 4 which had a table and 2 chairs on the deck. The cabin was comfortable but not luxurious. Very basic and small. The entertainment was first class. The grand salon had tables and drink menus but it proved impossible to get service. We resorted to getting drinks from the Captains Bar before ...

My wife and I selected this cruise as we have traveled the world, yet never have seen our own backyard and wanted to check off the bucket list by visiting the Mississippi River. The riverboat was evidently a converted casino boat that was nicely redone and well appointed, although still needed work in some areas. Entertainment was decent during the evening shows. Some of the entertainers ...
