A good time was had by all. While there were several gluten free menu items, there was not much variety. I ended up having the same things for dinner nearly every night in the dining room, because there were only 2 gluten free items. Our waiter did bring gluten free bread to me each night. At lunch, there was always a gluten free cheesecake or cake, but no variety there, either. No gluten free rolls or bread at the wind jammer cafe. I was thrilled when one day there was a taco bar. Hooray! Chips and salsa and tacos! This ship is a bit old, and it shows. There was some mold, and several people had plumping issues. Our plumbing was fine and we did not experience leaks like some. The shows were just ok. We had been on a previous cruise and LOVED the shows, but these were not fantastic. While I loved the ship band and orchestra, the singers weren't great, and I didn't love the jazzing up of broadway songs. Picky? I know. But I was expecting something as great as the Saturday Night Fever musical I saw on a different ship. We enjoyed the trivia and games, dance lessons were fun, pools were small but fun. We loved the ports, except St. John. Perhaps it was our bus tour guide driver, but the island was just not that great. And our driver seemed distracted or unsure of himself. Maybe he was new. I won't remember much except about the fort (which we couldn't go inside) and the wooden statues that we didn't stop to see. Sure, there's a reversing falls, but you'd have to come back 2 times to see the difference. The little local market was cute, but there wasn't much else. No one seemed that impressed with the port. It just doesn't compare in beauty or interest to the other towns we went to. Read Less

The food was good the service was very good all the staff was very attentive about the meal and they checked on every on at the table to make sure every thing was presented well and tasted very good. The ships interior was kept up very well but the exterior needed much work such as paint and windows also needed cleaning. The cabins were very clean the rugs wear old but in good shape the same for the furnishings. The embarkation and disembarking at Baltimore pier was the most efficient that we ever experienced in a long time. We wish that all Royal Caribbean port of call was as efficient as this port. When it comes to ports and shore excursions we believe some of there prices are to high depending on distance form the ship duration of excursion and type of excursion . we found that if we just take a cab to your were you want to go it casts about one quarter of what the ship charges if you leave a enough time you will be back in plenty of time before the ship sails. We wanted to do a quick cruise for my summer vacation from school and wanted to avoid flying. Driving to Baltimore from our home in Virginia was relatively quick and easy and we arrived a bit later then we usually do (12 ish) and parking was fairly quick. We always avoid the porters and carry our luggage on and off the ship. The embarkation was very, very quick and the line was very short. As we are Diamond on Royal, we had no wait at check in and it was fast. We had expected a medical questionnaire but there was none. We were on the ship by 1 pm and the cabin was available. We did a first on this cruise and had an inside cabin. Our room was tight but functional. After we stowed our cases we sorted out our soda packages and reserved our My Time dinner reservation and had a quick lunch at the Windjammer (which is alll the way forward on Deck Nine) and then unpacked. Soon it was time for the drill at our Muster Station. We lingered after Captain Patrick dismissed us to watch departurre from Baltimore and as it was a Saturday the watercraft that followed us out of the cruise terminal and past Fort McHenry and into the Chesapeake Bay. The cruise in a nutshell...Very good (A minus).. five days is short and we are accustomed to more than one day at sea coming and going to Bermuda...staff save one at guest services were very friendly and helpful. What was surprising was the invisible cruise director. On all our previous cruises on Royal the director is everywhere and heard all the time. Maybe it was us — go figure. Grandeur is showing her age gracefully and she was undergoing some repair work. There was nosy work being done by the Solarium (aft on the pool Deck) but it was not that distracting. Weather was great for most of the cruise as we missed the remains of Beryl...very nice in Bermuda and heavy rain, wind and whitecaps waves (seas maybe 15 to 20) came up in the evening after we left Bermuda and lasted all morning and finally eased towards late afternoon when the sun broke through. Arrival back in Baltimore was like clockwork and we were off the ship and through customs by 8 am. Hit rush hour traffic out of Baltimore but home by 11. All in all a nice little cruise. FOOD We found the food to be very good and the main dining room staff was excellent as usual. We like Asian Indian food and were disappointed not to see it on menu. We mentioned it to our assistant waiter and she told our head waiter and the next night we had a spicy and hot fish curry, dahl, a hot chutney and rice. The only thing missing was the naan bread! It has been our experience on Royal that they will move heaven and earth to satisfy the guests. The escargot was on the menu twice and the prime rib was melt in your mouth. My wife likes her food hot and not once did it have to go back. We kept our breakfast to oatmeal and fruit and coffee for breakfast and salads and my favorite cheese burgers and fries for lunch. The snack food fare at the Solarium bistro featured pork loin sandwich and horseradish. Yum! They have other treats also. We are at CHOPS for. special deal and food and staff were excellent. We did a sushi making class at Izumi and ate the results of our world. Our soda package at $8 a Day was a waste but there was more than soda available with it. My wife had the vitamin water. We just did not drink enough of it. STAFF Our room attendant was somewhat helpful and he tried. My wife has trouble with a hard mattress and requested a pillow topper to ease the hardness. He tried but his solution did not work out that well. The dining room staff we had were superb as they always are. They went over and above for us. It was a mixed bag at guest services. Most were great but we had trouble with one of our ship tours and took our concerns to him and he really could not be bothered. The guys outside (maintenance and pool lifeguards) were great and friendly. Even the security guys and gals smiled. POOLS and HOT TUBS One must get one’s swimming and soaking in early or you will be without a chair and in wall to wall people. The Solarium is a nice place for grownups but it can be s bit warm if the roof is not opened. The addition of life guards st the pools is s good thing. Read Less

We went into Baltimore two days prior to the cruise, both to ensure no travel problems and to have a full day to explore Baltimore. Embarkation was good, although we apparently had priority boarding through AAA, yet it was not noticed and we had to stand in line, which took about an hour. Cabin was clean and nice and as expected. Bathroom is small compared to Disney but we knew that going into this cruise. Dining was excellent and wait staff was 100%. Could not ask for anything more. One elevator appeared to be having some problems but overall ship was in very good condition. On-board entertainment could have been improved. Overall service was excellent. Captain wisely swapped two port days (Halifax, St. John) to avoid Hurricane Chris. Disembarkation was very smooth with paid transfer to the airport. A lot of activities were to promote the spa (and its associated additional cost). No traditional poker table, only a blackjack table that appeared to be converted to a Texas Hold 'em table. Blackjack tournament ($25) consisted of playing only 7 hands, then the person with the most chips moved on to a final round at the end of the trip. Bingo was $39 and up. More lectures about ports would have been appreciated. Read Less

My husband and I took our three grown grandchildren on a 9 day New England/Canada on Grandeur of the Seas leaving on July 5, 2018. Positives: Weather was great, Baltimore is an easy port to access and park, our cabin attendant and waiters were wonderful and the food very good. Diamond club and the designated diamond breakfast area were excellent. We did all ports independently...each grandchild was responsible for planning activities at a port and all of us had a wonderful time. We used the Viking Crown lounge on sea days for card games with the grandkids which was always quiet with no problem finding tables and chairs for our games. The ship to be very clean and easy to get around with friendly staff. When a hurricane threatened, the captain switched the order of the ports, even though in Halifax Royal Caribbean had to provide shuttles as the only berth available on such short notice was an industrial one. His actions insured that we were never exposed to rough weather and was much appreciated.Only complaint: one of the three cabins (2514 which is described below) was not satisfactory. Read Less

The cruise itself was exceptional. Very friendly and helpful staff, very clean and great entertainment. Good food choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner in Windjammer and enjoyed our 'dress up' nights and service in Great Gatsby. July 4th celebration was a lot of fun and a nice tribute to veterans and first responders. Boarding and departure process went smoothly. Wasn't impressed with area off the ship in Bermuda as compared to ports throughout the Caribbean we've visited on previous cruises. People in transport area were friendly and accommodating, however, there was very little to do without incurring expense of excursions. Just walked around for an hour or so and walked back to ship. Took the Fantaseas glass bottom boat excursion the second day which turned out to be educational and enjoyable. Will definitely cruise Royal Caribbean again but don't plan on returning to Bermuda (unless it's to book directly for a resort stay). Read Less

This was my first cruise. I knew this wasn't the biggest or newest ship in their fleet. Before getting on the ship I felt like the cruise line was nickle and diming me for things like upgraded beverage packages, mandatory gratuity, wifi access, etc. I tried to keep an open mind. The line in the parking lot to embark was long and tedious due the bottle neck of stopping to drop off luggage before parking. That was unexpected and frustrating. When i first stepped into the ship my reaction was "wow this ship's decor is seriously outdated" i felt like i was back in the 1990s. BUT the staff on the ship made up for my first impression. They were friendly, courteous, quick, and attentive. The ship was always clean and they worked hard. The staff made the experience very enjoyable. And in the end i got accustomed to the decor. :) i had an ocean view cabin on floor 2. There were 4 of us. 2 adults and 2 teens. It was tight but we managed. We stuffed empty luggage out of the way. The bathroom although small was bigger than i expected. I ate bfast and lunch at the Windjammer buffet. The food was good and there was tremendous variety. I ate dinner at the main dinning room and the wait staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was very good. One thing that i think RC could do better (besides upgrading the decor) is to email guests ahead notifying them of special dress nights. There was a formal night for dinner and if i hadn't called the cruise line ahead of my cruise i wouldn't have known that and wouldn't have packed for it. Overall it was a good trip. My teens had fun doing their own thing and hanging with the family and new friends. I felt very comfortable letting them explore the ship and make friends. In the end, i would consider cruising again on RC. Read Less

Our first cruise on Grandeur and it lived up to our expectations. Ship, crew and the service was outstanding. We did not want for anything and were treated exceptionally well in the dining room, the windjammer, and the bars and casino. For a short 5 day cruise The amenities and activities were spot on.The Shore excursion to Horseshoe Bay was brilliant. the ability to stay up late on shore on the overnight stay in Kings Wharf was a nice touch. I would have only one negative comment . I will admit i am not nautically astute to understand the schedule but slowing to 17 knots down from 20 heading into Bermuda in the early morning hours delayed departure onto land to 1:45pm. on the Monday. It would have been nice to get off the ship earlier in the day. Overall we will do a repeat cruise next summer but preferably on a 7 day out of Baltimore? Read Less

I had some trouble getting adjustments made to my final bill in the area of gratuities. Apparently communication was an issue. Ultimately, it was straightened out before I left the ship. The majority of the ships staff were wonderful and well mannered. However, there was one young man who was working in the Photo Center who made an inappropriate advance towards me. I did not look at him long enough to get his name. He was not working the register. I was looking for pictures of my brother and myself. Needless to say, I did not return to the Photo Center. He was the only one who was inappropriate. I should say that I am old enough to be his grandmother. With this being my first cruise, it was stress for the continuous reiteration of return times from excursions when we were at the mercy of the cruise supported excursion to get us back to the ship on time (in most cases). There were two excursions that we had paid for in advance who did not get us back until right at time of even a couple minutes late. This stress took away from my ability to enjoy the excursion. The Light House tour in Portland was one of these. On a positive note, I would like to compliment our dinning room waiter staff, Lulama, Ms. Campbell, and especially JingFang Lee - she was the kindest most delightful individual on our cruise. They were all very attentive with the right mix of being personable and professional. With the exception of the last comedian and the thrown together show with the orchestra in the Paladium Theater, the entertain was excellent! All the added expenses were a bit much. I did without a lot to keep things affordable. The Windjammer was best. The Hop On Hop Off in Saint Johns and Halifax were best. Read Less

I enjoyed the cruise. The port in Baltimore is fantastic. Easy on easy off. Fast lines. It was great. The ship is in good condition. Our room was mid ship third deck outside cabin. Plenty of room and storage. But no mini-fridge. We were a group of 20 headed to Bermuda for a wedding. All agreed the service was very good. Meals were good to excellent. They did make effort to correct anything that they could. Buffet is a big circle with some outside stations. Sometimes you have to search to find things. I had one issue; we had 8 o'clock dinners. Wedding night we got back to the ship late. The buffet closed at 8:30. Thank goodness they let us into the dining room because there is no where else to eat. We would have had to wait until the small cafe opened up at 11 like one in our group had to do. No food on a cruise ship? Who ever heard of that? Overall a nice experience. I don't smoke so I always avoid the casino. I tried but it was pungent. There is smoking on Lido (pool) deck port side so I avoided that too. Entertainment was biggest disappointment. 10th cruise so I had expectations. Main dance shows were good. Otherwise one piano bar, one DJ, one reggae band, and a violin duo. So not many choices. Again, no complaints but no wow. Read Less
