We went on this cruise on an invitation to join another couple. It was cheap. We have cruised before and had good experiences. This was not one of them. Ship was small and inefficient. small overcrowded in every way. 2 small pools. 2 tiny hot tubs, that were luke warm at best. But due the ridiculous overcrowding on the boat, even getting access to them was a challenge. The website said there was a roller rink, there was not. Cabin was fine, good service each day. Dining was just ok. Not 'Italian' in nature in the least. Buffets were just ok, if you like being fed like a herd of cattle. They actually were so stingy that they turn off the juice at like 10 in the morning. Of course no beverages were free and one person in a cabin can't buy the package, both have to. Even the late night pizza bar, as it was, was pathetic and not free. 8 dollars for a tiny pizza. I thought this was a cruise, and an Italian one at that. Since when do you pay for food? The late night pizza treat is a given on a cruise, no? Water machines not working regularly either. I swear they would make you pay to use the fountain if they could. Shows were good. What else can you do anyway? Ports were the same old cruise line ran, chaotic, people herding, noisy, affairs they always are. The poor countries we visit don't get a cent. So sad. We did excursions , Bahamas was lovely as we managed to get away from the crowd. Grand Turk nice too. Miami was a disaster for weather. We did a hop on hop off bus tour and there was more water inside the bus than out. They can't do anything about the rain, I understand, but the guide said she calls the boat to inform them to let passengers know that it's not good weather for this and they should tell us. They didn't. And of course the boat charges the excursion to your room card, cuz they own everything. It's infuriating. So we spend a day docked at Miami, then at night, we race out to see again, 30 miles (so they can run the casino and serve alcohol, international waters) and we just sit there, drop anchor and get tossed back and forth all night. I threw up from the motion sickness that I don't usually suffer from. Then we head back into Fort Lauderdale and get off. My teenagers were so unimpressed and miserable. You actually had to pay to play ping pong. Can you believe that? We have done a Holland America older crowd cruise which they loved. I will never ever go on a Costa boat again and am avidly warning others not to go. Check your boat people, find out about the little details. The whole landscape of cruising has changed and not for the good.. It's not a vacation. You are not pampered. The 'amenities' are terrible. You are crowded and miserable on a floating tank of greed. Chose this cruise with 9 family members over the Christmas Holiday. It wasn't overpriced like many over the holiday, so we thought this would be a good choice but we all wished we had paid more for another cruise line, like Celebrity, Princess and Royal Caribbean who we have traveled with many times. Two of our family members traveled with Costa many years ago and said it was wonderful. I guess after the Costa ship sunk in Italy a few years ago, they haven't been the same ever since and I really wanted this one to sink as well!!!! We were unable to sit together because they messed up our seating arrangement and we were all separated. They continually said there was nothing they could do!!! Really???? We ended up having to eat at the buffet in order to be together. We had to "pay" for a private dinner for Christmas Eve just to be together and it was absolutely horrible!!! Overall the service, food, and willingness to fix problems was absolutely horrible! Soooo disorganized!! Couldn't get butter, they ran out of water, coffee, juice and ice continually!!! Italian ship with no ice cream or Gelato, really????? Had to leave a sign everyday for my steward to remind him that we needed ice. When I didn't put out a note, we got no ice!! I have been on 12 cruises and yes there are some better than others, however, this was absolutely the lowest of low cruises I have ever been on. So disappointing especially since it was over Christmas!!! I could write a list of things that went wrong every single day, but then this would turn out to be a book! DO NOT EVER TAKE THIS CRUISE AND THIS PARTICULAR SHIP!!!! Unless you want a terrible experience!!!! Read Less

My husband and I (50s) and our daughter (20s) chose this cruise because it was a favorable price for a Christmas cruise, on our bucket list. We had cruised with Costa once before in 2010 and enjoyed it overall. Booking the cruise, I was surprised that we would not receive and previous guest credit for our other cruise, since they only give credit for 3 years, but more on that below. Embarkation: Unlike other cruise lines we typically use, embarkation was between 1 and 9 p.m. Since we didn't have any early boarding privileges, we meandered on our drive, arriving around 3:30. There weren't any lines for any aspects of embarkation, and we were on the ship quickly. Room was ready and luggage arrived shortly after. Because of the later embarkation time, muster was scheduled between the two dining times. This was a fiasco! Our poor waiter was trying to get all of our meal served (on the first night, which is always slower anyway) before we had to rush back to our cabins, get life jackets, go to our station. Muster was very disorganized (aside from the fact that they scan cards, which is good), and we were subjected to heavy fumes. People were coughing, putting scarves over faces, etc., and someone almost passed out. When we tried to let someone know about this, the muster helpers were very nonchalant, and non-helpful. Didn't inspire much confidence for a true emergency. Ship and Cabin: Deliziosa is similar to the Carnival Spirit class ships, which are my favorite. They seem to be just the right size and have a good crew: passenger ratio. I rarely felt crowded into long lines. We had a balcony cabin. On Carnival, it would have been considered an obstructed view, but we were not told this at booking. However, we have stayed in these cabins before and the price was acceptable. The balcony is a standard size, fitting 2 chairs and a table. A downside of Costa was that they allow smoking on balconies, and we had a smoking neighbor. The room had plenty of storage space for the three of us, including in the bathroom. Our cabin steward, Adamson, was stellar (a nice change from our recent Carnival cruises, where service was subpar). Dining: There were highs and lows here. The dining room dinners were great. Delicious 6-course meals. If you don't like pasta and Italian food, you will not like it; if you do, you'll enjoy trying things from various regions ... and lots of pasta! The special Christmas Eve dinner was very nice. Our waiter was professional and did a good job, given the demands of his section. The waiters seem overworked, with management that don't seem to want to pitch in. The hostess was very rude. At breakfast, they have a buffet in the dining room (?) with the option of ordering off a menu (which they seemed very hesitant to offer). Dining room lunch on sea days was good, like the dinner, but they were very overwhelmed on Christmas day, when everyone decided to eat in the dining room. The buffet at breakfast got to be boring - the exact same foods every day. Lunch was a little better, with some variety, but always very crowded and chaotic. The 'open' times of the buffet never seemed to match our schedule, so we often found ourselves scrounging for the leftovers or there before it was open. There seemed to be scheduling issues. We did try the pay-for-pizza restaurant. The pizzas cost 8.50 and were very tasty. However, on an Italian ship, it seems that pizza should be a 'given' on the buffet. Overall, if you are expecting 'American' food, you will probably not like the dining experience. Illy coffee in the buffet, yum!, with hot milk. A treat! Ports / Itinerary: Our itinerary got shifted because of the hurricane, but was eventually changed back to the original. We ended up being off schedule several times. First, we ended up leaving more like 2 in the morning, instead of 9 p.m., because they were waiting on people whose flights were delayed. I'd not really ever experienced that before. That put us late into our first port, Nassau. Then we had not one, but two!, medical emergencies where we had to turn around. Realize this is not Costa's fault, but it cut our time in Grand Turk in half. Our other ports were Amber Cove and Key West. Since we have been to all of these ports before, we hadn't made any special arrangements (aside from planning one of the Fathom volunteer excursions in Amber Cove, which was canceled due to lack of interest). We walked to Junkanoo Beach for a swim in Nassau, swam at the port in Grand Turk and Amber Cove, and went swimming / walking in Key West. All were enjoyable ports. Entertainment and Activities: Very happy with the variety of entertainment. There were several types of musicians on board, and it was fun to watch many people ballroom dancing. It was nice that there were two dancers on board who danced with passengers. Also, entertainment staff were very present and also did dancing. The evening shows provided a wide variety, and we enjoyed most of those we went to. There was a Bee Gees tribute band (very good), a magician (meh), a tenor (excellent) and acrobats (excellent). We missed the passenger talent show, but heard it was good. The tenor was on board for Christmas, and it was a special treat to hear him sing on Christmas Eve, especially Ave Maria. They also offered a Christmas Eve Midnight Mass and a Christmas Day Mass; we went to the former. They even had Communion! (This went much faster than I expected it would, surprisingly.) There was also a Santa visit for the kiddies, and 'snow' in the atrium. We also enjoyed the various trivia games in multiple languages! Rewards Program: I was pleasantly surprised by the rewards program. Since we were categorized as 'first time,' I didn't expect anything. However, we were given a few nice things: participation in past guest party, a free specialty coffee drink, and 50% off the pizza restaurant (which made it definitely worth a try). There were discounts for other things on board, and I think a free photo from the party, but we never retrieved that. Read Less

Costa Deliziosa – My wife and I just got back from a TA (20 days) on the Deliziosa leaving from Rome and ending in Ft. Lauderdale and let me say from the beginning that all the negative reviews of Costa and this ship in particular proved false. The embark was fast and very efficient. We were in our room (BC Balcony) with our bags, in less than 20 minutes. I had booked a few things through MyCosta before the trip,(excursions, wine, etc.) and that part did not work seamlessly. The items showed up on their ship board computer, but the various departments never received the requests. I would probably not do that again. ALSO, it pays to go to the front desk and get a itemized printout of your charges at least three times during the cruise. Service on board was great and efficient. I read all the reviews I could find about the Deliziosa and their TAs in general and here are some of the things that have changed. The common restrooms were all very clean and well stocked. The nightly shows were very good and we only missed one or two. Yes, the main language onboard was Italian, but then the 2nd was usually English. A daily Ship Events paper was in English and the menus were in English as well. We ate most of our meals in the main dining room on deck two, but also tried the buffet a few times. Dining at the buffet was like WalMart on Black Friday. This was not Costa’s fault but our fellow passengers. We met other passengers that had been on other Costa cruises; some as many as 11 times. We asked them what had changed and most said was the details. Things seemed worn and dirty, like where you would put your hand on an upholstered chair. Most guests were charged for water, but US guests were not. German travel companies from what we heard had sued Costa about their automatic tipping policy and won. Therefore, the Germans tip on service and are not automatically charged. We did not purchase a drink package but drank daily Things that did help: we took a multi plug with a surge protector (there was only 1 plug in the room!), we took stick-on wall hangers that worked great to hanging coats, pants & etc. We have trouble with cramping if we are walking a lot, so we took packets of G2 (they make up a 20 oz. btl.) Very nice to have along. We took advantage of having breakfast in our room for only $5 svc chg. Read Less

We wished to do a Transatlantic with interesting stops rather than an A . B We were happy to go on the Deliziosa as we were satisfied with our 2 previous cruises After reading the Carnival annual report for 2016 some of the sub standard services on this cruise were inevitable The company is cutting costs to maintain profitability. The embarkation in Venice was the usual Costa shambles that took forever - this time worse than usual, as it rained in Venice so no.one visited the port and everyone wanted to board at once. You would think it was the first time Costa was loading passengers Once on board we had lunch in the Buffet The ship looked fine and the cabin was ready early with the luggage inside. The only issue was a badly stained toilet seat and cabin steward Carlos sorted out a replacement immediately. He always went the extra mile and is a star Most nights the dining room was never open on time and the service was always hectic The dining room is short staffed due to cutbacks and upsets the ambience. Yes Carnival you are saving on costs, irritating your client base, image and damaging the business - an area of gross mismanagement No esteemed Italian themed line would charge for Pizzas or Ice Cream and never serve Ice Cream as a Desert on a 26 day cruise. These cuts you will ultimately cost the line market share The food quality in the Buffet and Main Dining Room was in keeping with the expectations of a middle class ship The standard of entertainment was high and there was always something on the go . The theatre shows were sometimes a bit repetitive ,but it was a relocation cruise. Max the Cruise/Entertainment Director really had the ship buzzing fantasti job and did a Table clearing in the Buffet and on the outside decks was very slack management The selection of ports and the variety of port excursions were more than adequate although some excursions, perhaps, were a little pricey We noticed that the few young children on the ship seemed to have lots of fun We chose to do the Port visits alone as most of the times were fairly short Disembarkation in Miami unfortunately also had some hiccups We requested and had an early departure agreed, then we were given 2 different sets of labels for times much later and needed to go to reception to fix the error, to be told our name should be on the early list, when the list was checked our name was there, not good.- some passengers missed their transport as they did not change their labels and left the ship late We probably would cruise with Costa again but with all the Nickel and Diming one needs to be sure of what to expect.Beware the cruiseline varies the facilities included in the price, from cruise to cruise A guy I met in the sauna summed it up, a Volkswagen will not give you the trimmings that a Mercedes will! This was my 3rd cruise on Costa and absolutely terrible. The port times were by far the shortest of all the cruise ships. I emailed the cruise line numerous times to ensure one of the three cabins are a twin (and received confirmation in writing it will be done) which did not happen. There was a number of hidden expenses, with a total of nearly 500euros. Previously when on a cruise I was used that everything in the cruise was included. This time around you had to pay for every single thing additional, including playing table tennis. The 4D movie machine broke and we were sent back 3 times to go and watch the movie on different days and every-time you get there, it is still broken. Bad communication by especially the front desk. We were told to buy bingo tickets at X point but when you get there, they have changed the location without informing anyone. Then again none of the activities started on time. Followed the instructions for online check in one month prior to departure and was already on the way to the airport and still haven't received everyone's boarding passes and luggage tags which we had to print beforehand. Only two very small pools on board and with a large number of kids on board, could not make use of the pool or jacuzzi as there was just no space. The public bathrooms in communal areas were not cleaned regularly. Our sea day had bad weather and the ship is not geared to accommodate everyone indoors and the activities hosted resulted in people 'hanging around' because there is no place to sit. The drinks packages are badly compiled, i.e. on our drinks package we could get a whiskey and soda, but cannot get a bottle of soda on its own. You had to buy a water package additional. We could get cocktails but no orange juice. On the soft drinks package you can get cocktails, soft-drinks etc, but cannot get a coffee. After 09:30pm you cannot get any drinking water on the cruise, unless you pay exorbitant fees for water from the minibar. Nor do they allow you to fill your water bottle from the fountain (which is also disconnected at night) Neither can you get a cup of coffee before 07:00am and some days 07:30am, unless you contact room service. When they changed ports during the cruise, due to weather concerns they provided no information about the new destination. Also some of the unfriendliest serving staff at the bars. The bars was also badly staffed so you waited most times at least 10 - 15min for a drink. The breakfast buffet served the same food every single day with no variance. Lunch was the same everyday with only one meat option changed (some days). The dinners was average. Will not recommend to anyone. Read Less

This cruise went to all the places we wanted to visit. Our cabin had a balcony and was very clean and comfortable. Our cabin steward Pravin from India was very friendly and efficient. We thought the food was good and in the sit-down restaurant there was a lovely waiter, another Indian called Jackson. In the late afternoon we would usually visit the Bar Marabile where there was another great character, a waiter from the Philippines called Marck. We had a beverage package so we didn't find that we didn't have extra expense from ordering drinks throughout the day. Our only criticism of Costa is that they sent us a questionnaire after the cruise, they had told us that favourable reviews of excellent staff would improve their chances of promotion. However all the questions were "fill in the dots"and no personal input. All the staff were good but that is why I've mentioned our favourites on this site. We didn't really take part in activities except for a couple of quizzes in the bar so I can't offer an opinion although the talent show by the crew is apparently very good. We didn't take part in any shore excursions, preferring to make our own way, partly because the excursions were quite expensive and often a bit long. There was a fierce heat wave at our destinations and we mostly didn't stay longer than a couple of hours ashore. Back at the boat the pool was mostly empty because everyone is off the boat -good tip if you like a quiet pool. Read Less

The sinking of Costa Concordia in 2012 must have taken to the bottom of the sea the whole company rather than just one vessel since cruising with them today it's rather like flying with Ryan air: whatever you do you get charged. We are quite accustom to cruising as we must have had at least one cruise every year for the past 10 years,(last one in november 2016) and we accept to pay extra for extra services or premium alternatives but in this case you get the feeling that you haven't pay for your cruse in full before departure. It's one of the most incredible things for an italian company to charge its passengers for pizza as an expensive luxury extra, not to mention an hamburger, or an ice cream. You get charged to sunbathing in the sun deck, or an egg in the morning if you are used to full breakfast rather than continental, the cinema is not longer free, and you are privilege if you get a "good morning" from any of the staff. Its also impossible to see the evening menu before you sit at the table, as all emphasis is on trying to sell you a meal at 28€ extra before you enter to the main restaurant, where if you do not like the main course all alternatives dishes carry a supplement. The ship's photographer will not survive very long I expect if todays going rate is 19,99€ for a souvenir picture. We have had 2 very pleasant cruises in the orient with Costa Victoria in the past which we liked and had no problem at all, but this is the end of the line for this company. At the end of this year we will be back with our favourite Holland -America line, where crew are bending backwards to please you and customers are not constantly squeezed for their pennies to supplement company's revenue. I am from the States, and I recently got married in Ireland. My husband and I were searching for a nice relaxing cruise to take us around the Mediterranean for our honeymoon. We picked Costa because it was stopping at Santorini and Dubrovnik, the top two places on our list. After boarding the ship, we weren't sure where to go. There was no direction and they immediately took our passports away from us for "safe keeping." That made me nervous because if the ship left without us at port, we would have a much harder time getting back to the states. We got a balcony room and it was spacious and clean, and the ship had two pools and a nice spa. The places where we stopped were wonderful: Corfu, Mykonos, Santorini, Dubrovnik. Other than that, I don't have anything positive to say. The food was mediocre at best. I was expecting hot breakfast, and different food stations throughout the day, but the only options were the buffet or sit down dinner, so if you missed the buffet there was no where to eat. Our waiter at the sit down dinner couldn't be bothered with us. There were days we sat there for 20 minutes before he walked over to say hello and take our order. The cruise may seem like a great deal until you board and realize that EVERYTHING costs extra. Pizza, ice cream at the pool, extra pool towels, even ping pong was extra. I've taken a cruise on Royal Caribbean and they go out of their way to make your vacation wonderful. I was expecting a similar experience, but instead felt like I was always annoying people when I would ask for a drink or had a question. Disappointed we used Costa for our honeymoon. Will never book with them again. Read Less
