We chose this cruise in order to visit the home of my maternal ancestors (Norway...specifically Stavanger!). Part of our original itinerary was changed because of the war in Ukraine but Viking made up for it with more time in Denmark and Norway.

We were actually booked on the maiden voyage of the Polars from the Artic to Antarctic. The cruise was canceled due to the ship not being ready in time. We had the timeframe carved out so we looked for an alternative itinerary. The Viking Venus with the Iceland extension fit the timeframe.

We chose this cruise because we have Finnish heritage. Unfortunately, because of the Ukraine war with Russia, Russia and Finland were removed from the itinerary. Bornholm was added, but was also removed, ostensibly because of bad weather (or pipeline sabotage)?

We wanted to sail on a Viking ocean cruise and to see St. Petersburg. With all that has happened in the world, we were not able to go to St. Petersburg, but Viking gave good alternatives and made the trip fun.
