I choose this cruise because of the excellent river cruises we had heard about from other people. In addition, this cruise included 2 days in St. Petersburg and it was important to me to have that stop part of the trip. The food was excellent! Not only was the food great in the two specialty restaurants but the World Cafe and The Restaurant were wonderful and included items to satisfy everyone’s tastes and desires. The staff was very friendly and professional. Viking really knows how to make a cruise happen efficiently and with ease for the customer. The ports of call were great and while we mostly went on the included tours, the several others that we purchased we well worth the added expense. The ship was only 2 years old and beautiful. The staterooms were comfortable and having our on veranda was just right. The ship’s decor and common areas were lovely and provided a casual but elegant atmosphere for relaxation. We could not have been more pleased with our experience on this cruise. Read Less

Once again Viking has surpassed expectations for all aspects from pre-cruise to embarkation to disembarkation and flight home - everything in between. Every single Viking employee from captain to room stewards were polite, attentive and knowledgeable. See separate section for comments about cabin. Dining options were excellent with specialty dining included and easy to reserve. We took most dinners in main dining room - outstanding service, varied menu, open seating, small room atmosphere. All common rooms were comfortable with books available for reading and interesting art work. The free spa is excellent and a great place to relax. Onboard entertainment adequate for small ship. The itinerary was of course the highlight. 11 ports and 8 countries in 14 days was amazing. Included and optional tours were all excellent. Every tour guide provided a memorable experience. All-in-all Viking goes out of their way to make you comfortable and part of the family. Read Less

This cruise company reminded me of driving a car but only getting to third gear. It could have been fantastic but there were some terrible instances of service and food. For instance, I sat next to pool on Sea day for five hours and there were no offers of water or drinks. But, several staff members were cleaning over and over again. We also sat in the explorer lounge for two hours and again, there were no drinks. I had to go and get our own. The walking excursions mixed everybody up so you ended up with a person using a walking cane in the same group as marathon runners. This was even though there might be six groups departing on the same excursion at the same time. It gave a poor experience to both the person with the walking disability (excursion was too fast) and most other people (excursion was too slow). The food was below what I expected (it was worst than a cheaper cruise of another cruise line we went on); - there were the same 5 choices of Bread in all restaurants all 14 days (except Manuel's). - the Steam vegetables were identical in 3 restaurants and did not change the entire trip. - the Hot breakfast choices was identical for entire cruise in the buffet. When I commented about this I was told that there was a different special of cooked eggs, - Deserts in buffet restaurant is ice cream (8 flavors) and slices, and no gateaux or hot desert, - Either white or red wine at dinner. No further choice. - Very few staff seem to know how to make a very good coffee. - the "fresh Juice" at breakfast were sometimes cordial, Overall the Standard of food in the restaurant is well below other cruise-lines but the majority of staff in the Buffet are nice to deal with (Very willing). We arrived 10 minutes early at the bus stop in Copenhagen to see our bus departing. Buses were running late (that day due to the rain and the resulting traffic problems) but we weren't allowed on the other Viking bus which was going to the ship next to our ship. We walked the 25 minutes in pouring rain back to our ship. There were seats left on the other Viking ship's bus. There are some things really good; - Bus shuttle to town is a good service (usually), - the Explorer lounge is nice, - the ship has nice areas with live music, - 4pm afternoon teas were amazing, - There were some good excursions and some were terrible. One that we paid for was pathetic but no excursion staff would discuss with us when we went to complain. - The Wifi ok, - There was a wonderful greeting when we got back from Berlin. We are very unlikely to do another Viking cruise (this was our 4th Cruise). Read Less

We are not normally cruisers but were travelling with another more senior couple who appreciated the practical benefits of cruising. In particular, we wanted to visit St. Petersburg and this cruise offered three nights there. So we selected the Oceania Marina based on itinerary and its strong reputation for good food. The food was excellent across the board. The four specialty restaurants as well as the Grand Dining Room and the buffet-oriented Terrace Cafe offered outstanding cuisine regardless of venue. Service both in and out of the dining venues was 5 star day and night. Can't speak much about shipboard activities as we really didn't avail ourselves of much of that. The string quartet that played daily in the main lounge before dinner was very accomplished and a pleasure to listen to. The guest pianist one evening was outstanding although we were only able to catch the latter portion of his show because of the timing of our dinner reservation that night. Wish he could have played more than one evening. In every port except St. Petersburg we did not hire a guide or take any group excursions. Talinn, Riga, Helsinki, and certainly Klaipeda are all small enough to navigate on ones own. The long Sunday at Klaipeda we mostly spent on board. Most places are closed on Sundays and the Klaipeda downtown can be covered in about an hour. Everywhere we went people spoke English. The long day we were docked at Warnemunde, we went to Lubeck -- which was brimming with medieval buildings dating back to the 13th century. We rented a car but there is public transport that will get you there as well. In St. Petersburg we toured with Dancing Bear Tours. They were fabulous. They were flexible, accommodating, and our guide spoke perfect English and was a source of so much history and information. Our driver provided door-to-door service at every stop. Great value and pleasant people to deal with. We took a canal boat ride one morning which was a wonderful way to see the city. We saw a number of churches but our favorite was St. Isaacs without a doubt. We are also culture vultures so highlights for us included the Russian Museum, the General Staff Building wing of the Hermitage, and of course the Hermitage proper. Could easily have spent whole days or even weeks in them. We enjoyed our outing to Peterhof as well, although the weather was not the sunniest. For something completely different, check out the royal bath house there if you go. I have no other cruises to compare the Marina to but would definitely recommend Oceania to anyone who is interested in exploring this part of the world. Both the ship and port experiences were grand. We chose this cruise do to past experience with Viking river cruises and their excellent service. It also had the itinerary we wanted. The ship is only 3 years old and in perfect condition. Really appreciate the free water bottles and included beer and wine at lunch and dinner. Staff spoke excellent English and addressed any needs that came up. Also appreciate the smaller passenger count and very seldom felt crowded except on a couple of occasions. Dinning was generally excellent except for a few poor entrees. Appreciate the no extra charge for the specialty restaurants. For dinners would have appreciated two entree sizes because a number of times because of the size of the servings I felt food was wasted. Would have liked all liquors included with the price as it is on other luxury cruise lines. Because of weather we did not get to stop in Poland which is something we were looking forward to. We chose the VIking Homelands cruise because of the variety of countries (Baltic countries plus add on of Iceland) and time of year fit well with our needs. This was our second Viking cruise (previous was the Grand European two years ago) travelling with my brother and sister in law. The air travel booked for us went smoothly. Embarkation/disembarkation went without a hitch. Amazing with over 900 people coming from all over the world and we all arrived and were sent off at the correct times. Quite a scheduling feat. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Our room steward kept our room so neat and clean and met us with a smile and something cheerful to talk about several times a day. Several servers became good friends and would stop by and talk to us daily. The multiple food choices were spectacular (we loved the Chefs Table...I can't rave enough about how great it is). We enjoyed the variety of food choices and types of restaurants, trying dishes that we would not normally have at home and loved every one of them. Trying to be reasonable with food portions was difficult with so much good food available. Eating our way through the many choices was a challenge that we enjoyed. And there was the afternoon tea, how much fun that was. We did manage to maintain our weight. There was a varied selection of excursions available. We went over the descriptions of each and were able to book our first choice for every one. Our one disappointment was that we were not able to get into the Gdansk port due to high winds. A relative was born in Poland and we were looking forward to at least visiting the country for a few hours. The last minute alternate destination, Bornholm, was up the usual high standard we have come to enjoy with Viking excursions. Again these excursions were a scheduling marvel. Over 600 went by train into Berlin and everyone came back on time. The add on in Iceland excursions were wonderful. We loved the musical evening entertainment in the theatre. The music was tuned in so well to our age group, every evening the audience was singing along with the entertainers. We enjoyed the trivia contests and were always one away from winning. Next cruise we will win those mimosas! We could not partake in all of the offered on board activities as there was so much to keep us occupied. We found the port talks were very helpful. To fill in some free moments, and they were few and far between, we enjoyed the mini golf, shuffleboard, and scrabble tables. I staff and feel of the ship was so welcoming. We chose this cruise because our backgrounds are Polish, German, Danish and Irish, so we would be able to visit some of the countries our ancestors came from Embarkation took only about 10 minutes. We enjoyed the port lectures in the theatre giving us an idea of the countries we would visit. Most of the tour guides on the buses were very knowledgeable, and having headsets was a great help in hearing everything they said. In our leisure time, we enjoyed relaxing on a lounge chair by the pool, the music was always so calming. We did not swim in the pool because the water was a little cooler than what we are used to in Florida. We also enjoyed listening to the guest piano player, and guitarist. Our favorite restaurant for dinner was The Restaurant--we enjoyed being waited on and they always tried to give us a table for 2 at the window. We ate in Manfredi's twice, and the food was excellent, however, it was quite noisy for our liking. The World Café also had so many choices to choose from, all delicious. I think we had gelato every day of the cruise! We never really had to wait on any lines for too long with anything we did. We loved that we could walk from one end of the ship to the other and not be tired out. The shows in the evening were all outstanding. Our cruise director, Brian Rodriquez led an interdenominational service on Sunday and sang the Our Father which blew everyone away with his phenomenal voice. He also had his own show one evening, and we couldn't believe the range of songs he performed. When all 600 of us returned on the train from Berlin, we were welcomed back with a reception by the crew & staff with a red carpet, champagne and music. It was the perfect ending for a perfect day. Service was excellent from everyone, and we were always greeted with a smile and nice salutation. Eventually they called us by our first names. All good things must come to an end, and we disembarked at 6 am, The Viking porter crew took care of our bags from the terminal all the way to check-in at the airport. We felt very safe and cared for. Thank you Viking for a wonderful trip! Read Less

Our cabin boys, Willy and Tijo were outstanding, couldn’t ask for better. The excursions were great. Viking was great in the timing and picking the right guides for the excursions. The ship was immaculate, always someone cleaning. We didn’t do night entertainment, was too tired after long days of excursions.(which we picked), but we did hear the music, they played throughout the day, which was nice. Our embarkment and disembarkment went on time and smoothly. I can’t say enough about Viking they are great. Our extended days were great, Viking took care of our hotels and excursions and bags. Was a little disappointed that they had to cancel our stop in Poland, was looking forward in seeing the concentration camp, but understand the weather just happens and you have to compensate for that. We had been on two Viking River cruises and were extremely impressed. We never had an interest to go on an Ocean cruise until those experiences. We were always disinterested in the larger capacity ships and felt that with Viking's smaller passenger count they could provide the same level of intimacy that we experienced on the River cruises. They did not disappoint!! The ship was beautiful and immaculate. The service was outstanding. Our cabin was very roomy and comfortable as we had hoped since this was a longer cruise. Plenty of storage for all of our belongings. A comfortable sofa and chair to lounge in as well as a roomy veranda to enjoy the views from. The food was delicious and diversified with several venues to choose from. The ports and included shore excursions were wonderfull and diversified from the bustling St Pertersberg to the fjords of Norway. Not only would we go again we already booked, while on board, the Mediterranean Odyssey. Looking forward to another wonderful trip Read Less

We wanted to try Viking Ocean and to cruise in the Baltic. It was a great itinerary good excursions. The Viking Star was the best ship we have ever been on, and we are long time Azamara fans. We were a bit concerned as it is a bit larger than the Azamara ships that we liked. But the increased size made it better, larger cabins and public spaces. The ship was right sized for the number of passengers. I never felt like I was in a crowd. The specialty restaurants , included drinks and excursions offset much of the higher cost. The food was excellent, perhaps not as good as the one Oceania ship we were on previously, but everything else was better. The crew were exceptional, the bar tender quickly learned our preferences and cabin #. We were not big customers of his either. The itinerary is what interested us the most. We had done 2 river cruises with Viking before and felt confident that they have an excellent product. The itinerary was excellent as were the programming aspects of this cruise. The boat was immaculate and the service was beyond expectations. At times, the excursions could get crowded -- same with the port with a combination of boats -- but Viking did its best to minimize those situations. The meal choices were plentiful and all of high quality. There was always something you could do on the boat, or choose to just hang out. We loved the diversity of the itinerary and the ports. Also, the boat was just the right size -- large enough to not get bored and small enough to not feel overwhelmed. We took advantage of an on-board promotion and booked our next cruise. We are very much looking forward to it! Read Less

We chose Viking because of it's fine reputation for quality and service. The smaller ship size made the trip more intimate with a relaxed atmosphere free from queueing and crowds. We chose this particular cruise as it had ports in both Karen's and my homelands. So, we had an opportunity to visit our roots. Unfortunately, due to winds???? the Captain cancelled our stop in Gdansk Poland. Being 100% Polish I was unable to visit my homeland. Quite a disappointment. This was the only negative we experienced. The food was outstanding and the personalized service was extraordinary. Brian Rodriguez our Cruise Director was the finest Director we have ever had the pleasure of sailing with...and what a voice!!! I found the guides on our tours to be extremely knowledgeable and very courteous. Docking locations were very convenient to transportation and town centers. This eliminated the need for long walks on piers and to tour buses. Thank you to the Viking team for making this a memorable trip. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary and for the Viking reputation. I was somewhat disappointed with the stage entertainment - specifically the the costumes for the women did not fit properly and one of the men in a tuxedo with no socks. The dining room waitstaff was also a disappointment. With all the pomp of presenting the menus in foreign languages, the waitstaff does not serve form the right and pick up from the right (which I have been told is Viking Corporate training). They also often reach across across, in front of the guest, to refill drink classes. Most of our meals were taken in the buffet as the food was as good as the other venues and we didn't have to deal with mediocre waitstaff. On the plus side, the tours were outstanding and the ship was impeccably maintained. The staff were always pleasant and many got to know us by name within a few days. Read Less

Several friends had taken this Baltic cruise and raves about it. Chose Silver Spirit because it could dock in downtown St Petersburg (instead of naval marine terminal out of town). Embarking in Stockholm was a breeze, but luggage delivery was strange. Two bags quickly came to cabin, but a hour later two were still missing. Went looking and found both in the hall - one near our cabin, the other several cabins away. No crew doing anything with them. Dining was generally very good. However, almost every time we asked for red wine, we were handed the wine list instead of being offer complimentary house offerings. We did buy premium wines, but left with feeling wait staff was trained to push paid wine over included wines (which were often very good). A cheap touch that mared otherwise fine dining. Aside from the wine thing, the wait staff was terrific. Cabin was excellent, well-appointed, and very comfortable. Butler and cabin attendant were superb. Shore excursions were OK. I think they failed to meet extraordinarily high expectations set by things our friends had said about their trips. Glad to have seen the Hermitage, but found being in there with mobs of people too much. Literally found some rooms so packed it was hard to breathe. I guess that’s they way that place is, but it was a miserable experience. Shore excursion staff not much help - lacked options - to help us change during the cruise. Their knowledge of the excursions seemed to be limited to what was printed in the books we were given. Expected greater knowledge. If we were do this again, might be inclined to arrange shore tours on my own via A&K or some similar outside group. That said - Nadia and Daria in St. Petersburg and Andrei in Tallinn were excellent guides. Disembarking went very smoothly. I realize flipping the ship in a few hours for new passengers is an all-hands-on-deck job, I might suggest allocating a few staff to offer coffee or drinks to passengers sitting in lounges for a couple of hours between the time we had to be out of our cabins and leaving the ship. Would I go again? Not likely to repeat any cruise I’ve taken. Read Less

We wanted a short cruise that would allow us to visit St. Petersburg at some length, and allow us to spend significant land time in the two most interesting Scandinavian cities, Stockholm and Copenhagen. This cruise was for 7 nights, with three of them in St. Pete. And, it departed from Stockholm and disembarked in Copenhagen. Because we are quite old, and it is painful for us to keep up with group tours, we ordered private cars through the Silversea program for that. As well, we wanted a pretty small ship. With just over 600 passages the Silver Spirit was, compared with other ocean-going cruise ships a pretty small one. Some of this was probably worth it - 8 hours in new Mercedes with driver and also good guide in St. Pete for $500. We took that for each of our three days in Russia. Some of it was a rip-off, but we were offered no other viable option, for the half-day the ship was in Finland. Just 4 hours in in new Mercedes with driver and also good guide in Helsinki for fully $700 - FOUR hours for Seven Hundred Dollars. For our Five times in ports, including a half-day in Tallin, Estonia, we had to spend an additional $2700. Given a good discount by Silversea, we paid extra to fly First Class, or Business Class, whatever the top class is called for the major carriers - about $1400 extra for each of us. That would have been Fine, EXCEPT that we had no choice as to the timing of our flights. When flying to Europe before, we we have done over 50 times, we never took a flighst that departed earlier than 9 pm, and usually significantly later, allowing for a goodly number of hours ASLEEP on the plain. This flight left just after 5 PM, allowing us to sleep for only an hour or, at most, two. Our first two days in Stockholm were compromised by this bad mandatory timing. If we ever go on Silversea again, we will NOT "take advantage" of their air programs. Read Less

we have cruised with Silversea 6 times. This cruise to the Baltics was outstanding. Stockholm, Helsinki,St Petersburg, Talinn Estonia were fabulous but Mariehamn was weak but allowed us to rest. The newly reconstructed Silver Spirit was beautiful & excellent, food was excellent & better than ever but no change of menu all week in Atlantide and Indochine so we just chose different entrees for variety. La Terraza was spectacular. We had issues with the Silversea booked air; American Airlines cancelled our flight so we traveled the next day and missed our prepaid hotel in Stockholm. After speaking with Silversea, they stepped up to the plate and assisted us for our loss.We have booked 4 additional Silversea cruises and can't wait to rejoin the ship.Service was outstanding. A perfect cruise once we got to the ship. The ship is a great size with under 600 guests. Nice chocolate desert buffet at the pool on the last evening with a great DJ. The chocolate was to die for. We do not care for the entertainment but I live in Las Vegas so I am spoiled with the world's best; I do not cruise for the weak shows. Great singers but boring shows--opera, tenors, corny productions, 1940-1950's is not my thing. Give me classic rock. They need to get into current times with the shows. Read Less

We chose Silver Sea based on previous excellent experiences. Cabin was not acceptable, see below. The Manager of Guest Relations, Ms Ana Pedroso De Lima, could not see us for the first two (2) days of the cruise because she was "busy". The food was generally tasteless. The presentation was often pretty good, but the food just didn't taste good. A big disappointment from our previous experience. Did not check out entertainment; the enrichment lectures by Prof Adelman were great. Service was generally very good, other than the Guest Relations Office. Ports and Shore excursions were great and enjoyable. Based on our experience on this cruise, Silver Sea has lost us. Sun is the most beautiful ship. Decorated in luxurious Scandinavian style, she absorbs people well. The cabins are nice, with a seating area and a small balcony (deluxe veranda level). Service is great, as is the food, generally, although it is sometimes difficult to get a table at dinner, especially when they have two shows on the same night. The included excursions are usually basic orientation coach or walking tours. The optional excursions are pricy, but the Flåm railway was amazing!. You can buy a drinks package which gives you all your drinks rather than the rather basic quality wines (also beer and soft drinks) with lunch and dinner. Bar prices are steep and subject to a service charge. We did the Viking Homelands cruise which covered the Baltic and some Norwegian Fjords. The day in Berlin (from Warnemünde) was not enjoyable. We were put on a scruffy old "ersatz" train for over two hours in each direction. No Aircon so you had to open the windows and the noise was terrible. Then a coach tour (sit on the right or you'll see nothing). They dropped us in Gendarmenplatz which was a long way from anywhere. Tourist attractions are mostly museums. When we got back, because we were the last people off the train (due to our carriage not actually stopping next to the platform) and being rather slow walkers, we were right at the back of a queue of some 700 people. It took nearly an hour to get everyone on board, by which time it was after 9pm and all the restaurants were full. This was pure bad organisation on the part of Viking, who made no concession to the large number of slow walkers - these guests could easily have been put in carriages nearer the other end of the train, minimising the walking distance. Unlike on the river cruises, there are no slow walking tours. I'm not sure why, when most of the tours have multiple groups. Read Less

Our first Viking Cruise, we were drawn mostly to the Viking Homelands itinerary as these were some of the places we most wanted to visit. The included excursions were good, providing very good general background and historical, and geographical, perspective. They can be very crowded as many groups seem to run together. The purchased excursions helped avoid crowds and provided more interesting information. The ship, however, is magnificent! It provided highest level of luxury and service, quality food in abundance and world class entertainment, all of which exceeded our expectations. Although the specialty restaurants were nice, I really enjoyed the rib eye steak at Manfredi's, The World Cafe on Deck 7 is outstanding. I think I ate fresh crab legs every day! Everything is fresh and they will even cook to order. Best of all, they offer twenty four hour room service as good or better than in any hotel. Be sure to go early to secure a good seat at the shows in the comfortable theater. They are highly enjoyable. I give this Viking Ocean Cruise a rating higher than 5! Read Less

We chose this cruise after taking a lovely and memorable river cruise with Viking. We had wanted to visit the Baltic countries on this itinerary. We were taken care of from the time we arrived in Stockholm until we checked into the airport in Bergen. The cruise on the Baltic was as smooth as the river cruise. This surprised us, as we had been on a previous Caribbean cruise (not a Viking cruise) that was quite rocky. The Sun and it’s crew was spectacular! The ship design and artwork were stunning and the cleanliness impeccable. The staff, to a person, was positive, professional and personable. The hiring, training and quality assurance of personnel is top notch. The staff were a team that handled themselves with a high level of friendly decorum. We ate our lunches on the Aquavit and found the food options to be plentiful and delicious. I loved the salad and salmon choices and my husband loved the meat, pizza and pasta selections. The freshness and taste of the food did not fail to delight. We often frequented the sushi bar as appetizers with early evening cocktails- heavenly! The choices for dinner in the Restaurant were plentiful and delicious. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Chef’s Table (paired wines with each course) and Manfredi’s (Italian perfection). The many areas of the ship made the ambiance relaxing and personal. We enjoyed both the infinity pool and outdoor seating on warm days and the enclosed pool area on cool days. We loved the coffee/espresso/ cappuccino machine availability 24/7. Yes, I am a coffee fanatic! We enjoyed evening cocktails in Mamsen’s- beautiful live music and ocean views. Our stateroom was lovely. It was cleaned twice daily -when we left in the a.m. and at turndown while we were at dinner. The bathroom was spacious with drawer space for personal items. The bedroom had ample plugs for phone/iPad charging and two barrel chairs for sitting. The private balcony with table and chairs was sweet for watching the world go by. My only minor comment is that the drawer space was very shallow and hanging space limited for 2 people. Truth: I bring a lot of clothes. I appreciate the fact that there are washers and dryers and irons/ironing boards on each floor with detergent -included without extra charge. I have never felt so wonderfully indulged as I did on this cruise. Yes, we booked our next Viking Ocean cruise before we left the Sun! Read Less

The cabins were spacious, with everyone having a veranda. Dining was diverse and excellent. The dining room staff was amazing and it was nice having multiple wine stewards. Evening entertainment was top notch and definitely worth our time. The port excursions were about the right length. No children are allowed on Viking. What makes Viking special is the treatment from the time your plane lands until you are actually heading through security on your way home. The 3 day pre-trip in Iceland was amazing. Having local guides at each port is a plus as most are very entertaining and have great local stories, some of which are probably true. Also, the stop in Eidfjord, Norway was just gorgeous, with us having the time to take a leisurely walk in the country. We have already booked our next two Viking cruises, one river and one ocean. The ship was fantastic. Every meal, regardless of venue was excellent as was the service throughout. The ship (Viking Sun), one of the newer, modern designs in the Viking fleet is a perfect size. 930 passengers, never a wait or long line for any restaurant, meal or activity. Everything was extremely well organized from the first contact when booking through the weather related flight disruptions and throughout the entire trip. The only minor negative was the Berlin port call, should not be on a Sunday, nothing was open except restaurants. It is also a VERY long day. Having said that, the sights and monuments were well worth the effort. Highly recommend the pool area in the fitness center to relax tired muscles after a good tour day followed by a good book and "refreshments" on glass enclosed forward observation lounge. Every port of call included an excellent, professionally programed tour. An especially nice added tour was the Ballet in St Petersburg. We have and will continue to recommend Viking to friends and family. Read Less

We were looking for a special trip to celebrate our 50th anniversary. This cruise exceeded our expectations. We've cruised a number of times before but have never experienced the quality provided by Viking. One of the main selling points for this cruise was the small size of the ship, only 930 passengers. After cruising on ships that carried as many as 3,600 passengers, the small ship experience was great. Another feature we liked was the fact that a complimentary shore excursion was included at each port. Optional excursions were available at extra cost, but we found that other than the two-day excursion in St. Petersburg which we paid for, most of the included excursions met our needs. The guides for the excursions were some of the best we've experienced. While the cost of a Viking cruise is higher than many other cruise lines with similar itineraries, the amenities that are included such as the free shore excursions, the free beer or wine with lunch and dinner, the no extra cover charge for the outstanding alternative restaurants, the free mini bar stocked with sodas and snacks daily, complimentary Wi-Fi, make the cost difference minimal. The quality and variety of the food in all of the restaurants including the buffet was exceptional. The port talks where you actually learn about the port, not just the place to get the best deal on diamonds or tanzanite, were a welcome change from previous cruises we've taken. All cabins on a Viking Cruise are veranda cabins. There are no interior rooms. This cruise was without a doubt the best cruise we've ever taken. I would highly recommend the Viking Cruise experience. Loved the itinerary. Viking Sun is a beautiful new ship with fabulous service, food, and included excursions. We loved the fact that there were fewer passengers. It wasn’t a cattle car that other larger cruise lines have. We loved not having young children running down the hallways like other cruise lines. No children under 18 are allowed. Highlights were the optional excursions- St Petersburg Ballet. And Norway’s Flam Railway. We loved the fact that everything is included. Such as fine wines and beers for lunch and dinner. Other cruise lines charge per soda, water bottle, glass of wine or beer. The staff are super hard workers who are very nice and friendly. The spa was beautiful and it was such a wonderful experience to treat myself to a massage and facial. Our cabin was super clean, quiet, and comfortable. We loved the heated bathroom floor. I look forward to taking another Viking Ocean cruise. Read Less
