We recently completed a 15-day river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam on Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, and, well, some good and some bad. As to the bad, it likely put us off Scenic enough that we won’t cruise with them again.
This was not our first cruise, but it was our first river cruise. Realizing that river cruising differed from ocean cruising I watched a lot of videos, so got a pretty ...
Due to high water levels we started our cruise on the Scenic Ruby from Budapest. We joined the Scenic Crystal in Rudesheim. We we were therefore able to compare the two ships. Ruby is older but basically the same as Crystal except Crystal has Deluxe Balcony rooms which we had booked. The Ruby was in better condition than Crystal. Crystal had ripped and stained carpets. We found the staff, ...
We chose scenic because it was all inclusive. We found that the little things that make a 5 star was lacking.
First, the wifi was horrible. The TV stations options were poor. There are times on the trip that you actually do use the tv and WiFi, so zip it.
Dinner food was ok, we have had better meals on oceana and at specialty dining on the bigl ships. They fell short here.
The wine ...
Great river cruise but made exceptionally so by the brilliant staff who couldn't do enough for us. The ship was spotless. We were spoilt by the staff who catered to our every whim. Alex was the Hotel Manager - he was the BEST!!! He looked after me (I'm vegan and partially disabled) and he gave me 5 star treatment every night. He treated everyone with a smile and courtesy and made us all feel ...
After being very warmly welcomed by front desk staff, we started to learn about river cruising. Our cabin was very comfortable (Deluxe Balcony on Diamond Deck) with all the amenities you could ever want. Lots of on-screen entertainment options, so we re-watched some Bond films over the evenings.
On Scenic Jasper, the Crystal Dining Room is the only actual dining room. Portobello’s is a small ...
We sailed from Budapest to Amsterdam on Scenic Jasper departing April 24, 2023. We were very excited about our first river cruise. It was a lovely experience. However, we didn't feel Scenic lived up to all of the hype it gets as a 5-Star cruise line. I'm not sure what kind of high tech gadgets they're talking about having. They didn't even have USB outlets in the cabins. The app we used on our ...
Scenic definitely over promises and under delivers. On the web site for our cabin class they offer among other things a EUR200 OBC. They offer private transfers in Europe. Note, actual terms and conditions ARE NOT available until months after a $2000 non refundable deposit is required. The much later fine print restricts the OBC to spa services only. It was booked up after day two. The same late ...
This Scenic Danube river cruise plus Oberammergau was a once in a lifetime event. Almost everything was perfect, and it was a truely five star all inclusive experience. I had a single cabin with a balcony which was especially built for solo travelers. This made the single supplement relatively reasonable. I especially liked the Scenic app which had a personal narrative keyed to each portion of the ...
This was my second river cruise, with both being on Scenic. So my only basis for comparison is ocean cruises, of which I've had many. So some of my comments may be due to the nature of the product and its differences from ocean cruises.
Embarkation. Even though we made our own air arrangements, Scenic met us at the airport and whisked us to the ship. There were about a dozen of us, and we were ...
Our ship was changed from Ruby to Jade - same layout, same design, same cabin. The cabin was spacious enough. Lots of storage.
Having the balcony window move up and down allowed for fresh air and picture taking.
Found the wine selection wanting.
Not terribly impressed with the meals. One that stood out: the herb encrusted lamb was delicious. Ordering off the breakfast and lunch menus ...
