after being on allure and anthem for previous cruises, independance was a true downgrade. We were so excited to experience Indy but didn’t realise what a difference the class of ship would mean. The teenagers took over hot tubs, drunk and swearing, groups loitering by stairwells, charging phones in hallways and being loud and intimidating. 6-8 yr old kids club was put in with 9-11 year olds which didn’t work at all. New trampolines are good, water slides and kids splashaway bay is excellent. Unfortunately staff don’t allow you to change pools, if you set up on a lounger and decide to walk be in there for more than 30 mins or hi to the hot tub or the other area 20 steps away they take your stuff and give it to customer services. When you have kids they don’t want to be in the 1 pool, they change pools and comecand get to the loungers. Apparently this isn’t allowed. 30 mins of no returns means your things are taken to customer service. False nails of last guest found on carpet of grand suite. Bar tenders refusing to give more than 2 bottles of water at the same time. Annoying when 4 Of u want a bottle of water. Had to get my husband to come and get another 2 as they wouldn’t serve me. I went with a family group of 13 ages from 21 to 66 . There is something for everyone to be entertained. Before I left I read some very negative reviews I have no idea what they are talking about. Arrival at Southampton boarding no problem very smooth . All our Staterooms were lovely and clean all our stateroom attendants looked after us no complaints. Dining was absolutely brilliant the buffet area Windjammer can get a bit busy but did not have to wait long for a table. In the dining room we were treated so well food really nice presented well. Activities onboard were great the young people in our group tried most things . I used the gym walking track/ saunas / attending dance class all in all had a fab time. Would definitely recommend for families of all ages great time had by all in our party. PS Grease musical was excellent. The Independence of the Seas is a family ship I personally would not recommend for older people or couples just my opinion. The ports of call were ok would have liked to have gone to Paris but is was over three hours away from Le Harve our first stop which our group thought was too far. I would travel on INDY again but only in a group. Read Less

I honestly can not agree with many of the reviews on here. We always got a choice of sunbeds, always got seats/table in the windjammer and never queued for a drink! The staff were so attentive to our needs. We have cruised on the Navigator previously and found the ship more or less identical apart from all the new family features. The new skypad, lazer tag, tube slides were thoroughly enjoyed by our kids. No queuing for these either! The entertainment was great fun... We particularly enjoyed Grease and Darren Day. The new sports bar was a hit with all of us. The food in the Windjammer and the dining room was excellent. The service in the dining room second to none. However, we did upgrade to Chops Grille one night which is truly exceptional. The deluxe drinks package was included in our holiday price and again, fantastic. Cocktails served by waiters to your sunbed, a range of beers, wine and spirits, speciality coffee on the promenade and deluxe shakes in Johnny Rockets. Superb! Can't wait to sail on Indy again. After reading some of the reviews we were dreading going on the Independance of the seas however we were pleasantly surprised. I have been on P&O and Princess before which were both excellent but found the service and facilities on independance of the seas to be superior. Embarkation was also much easier than both. We travelled as a family with a 5 year old child, who had the best holiday ever and wants to return next year. All staff, except one, were fantastic, especially Made in the main dining room and made our daughter feel very welcome. The ship itself is beautiful and although busy we never had to wait to be served and always found a table, We assume that royal Carribean have tried to address some of the issues with waits etc detailed in the reviews. There are loads of activities for families and the entertainment was great. The food quality on the main dining room is not the best but it's adequate and still a pleasant dining experience. The passengers were also very courteous to each other and there was a good mix of ages and nationalities. The staff work extremely hard and deserve recognition for the fantastic service they deliver. Would definately recommend. Read Less

It was a family cruise foe Eleven of us. The Ship was lovely and the staff were real friendly. Myself my partner and 14 year old daughter in cabin, was quite small not a lot of space when they put the sofa bed down. My brother had an inside cabin with his wife and 2 daughters of 14 and 16, not enough space to swing a cat, really not suitable for a family room as they call it,o.k if your kids are 3 and 4 maybe. Be prepared to pay for your coach or bus transfer into the towns.a family of 4 can expect another 100 euros plus on top. Make sure you have a drinks package because the drinks are an extortionate price. if you have a room on deck ten be prepared for early morning call of people scrapping deck chairs and trolleys above you, also be prepared for the gangs of kids that think its fun to run up and down the corridors shouting and screaming knocking and kicking and ringing bells late at night.oh and on the last night they find it amusing to rip all your luggage labels off your bags, and lust basically run riot.please do not expect security to do anything they are totally inept at dealing with them. They are more interested in stopping anyone getting on the ship carrying any water or wine or spirits.my elderly parents were left traumatised and had their cruise totally ruined by the constant problems with kids. wouldn;t travel withrcc again stick with P.O. a class above. This cruise was chosen for the price and the expected sun. As we had visited each port before except 1 it was an excuse to not do much. Embarkation and disembarkation in Southampton was very easy and smooth. Getting on our bags were taken from our car and severed to us quickly and getting off our bags were collected the night before, w left at our allocated time and bags were easy to find and exit quickly. The ship is clean, tidy and lots of things to do. The Helipad is a fab place to watch leaving and e tearing ports, the main restaurant is a must for breakfast, lunch and dinner on sea days as you don't have to fight for a table which can happen in the buffet restauran. The headliner entertainment was fantastic, but the onboard singer and dancers just had something missing that we couldn't put our fingers on. If you fancy doing the flow rider do it the day you get on as there won't be any cues. Booking tours through the ship came out expensive, however you were guaranteed getting back on the ship if you were held up. Our cabin was an internal over the promenade. This didn't mean it could be noisy later some night, but the size and facilities were good. Twin room with a seating area, large window, fridge, tea facilities, double wardrobe and lots of little areas to store things. The ensuite was good, storage before the corner mirror, good hot shower and the staff kept the room clean and tidy. The I. Room TV was s good source of information as you could check account, download films for a fee, book excursions and watch the various Charles for what was happing. Read Less

Family celebration with a total of 11 adults and children. Several had more, some less cruise experience. Started off with having to call because of candy wrappers, and crumbs on couch and near full windows of our suite. Luggage did not arrive until after 9 p.m.. Main dining was very good (our attendants were excellent!). Buffet was the worst, food cold, was generally not good quality and we quickly ate all meals in the main dinning room. Entertainment was fair although never went to some events (ice skating for example) because of limited times and overcrowding. We had several smaller kids who with adults went to the game area which had no cruise supervision and my wife was knocked down by teenagers running thruout the area. Estimate 25% of games were out of order. Used childcare with average results. Honfleur/Deauville shore excusion was 3 out of 5. Honfleur was pleasant town with nice presentation. Deauville was a drop-off for an hour with no recommendation where to visit or background. Galicia Cellare tour - have been on several winery tours and all were excellent. We drove 2 1/2 hours to winery. We walked to entrance and waited for a few people who needed assistance and people asked questions about the grapes. It was mentioned they were in the process of bottling the wine but never saw the inside and were escourted to an area for wine tasting and where to buy product. Probably 45 min in total. Drove another hour to small town where no background was given and were told to come back in an hour. All the way back the guide complained about the US even though he was wearing his Nike shoes and apparel (he had never been to the US). Rate 1 of 5. We also took an independent tour of Lisbon with We Hate Tourism group. Will review then at another time. Took the Galley tour our second to last day. They were very specific - no open toe shoes and we will teach everyone how to wash their hands like the crew. Over 30% had open toe shoes, no one washed their hands and observed at least 3 times crew handling food without gloves. The chef? who did the tour spoke so soft no one could hear most of his presentaion. Our special lunch afterward was the worst of the week in terms of food and service. Rating 1 of 5 We carried our luggage off of the ship. We got in line to take a taxi to the train station which was a mile away to go to Gatwick. The driver said there was no train but he could take us for 300 pounds. This was confirmed by the port authority individual standing there. I guess they were working together. I told him to take me to the station where there was of course many trains going to Gatwick. I sent my concerns to R/C and have waited over a month with no answer, thus I have submitted this review. It just keeps getting worse. I’ve been on 2 cruises before, all with Royal Caribbean and I thought they were ok but this year was bad. - Embarkation was smooth. - Breakfast was the same every morning ( sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs etc) I wish there were more healthy options. - Lunch was good, more varieties and new things every day - Dinner and service was good apart from Steak. I ate lots of steaks in different places and I know what medium rare means. These steaks were raw. Four of us ordered and they were all raw. Definitely go for medium well instead. - The stateroom attendant was friendly - The shows were not so good compared to Independence. There was a very good comedian in the first night. On the last night there was a different comedian which wasn’t that good. Some of his jokes were word by word the same as some of the first comedian which was painful to watch. - The cruise director was ok but not very involved. - The ports weren’t very good. Le Havre is too far from Paris so took an excursion to Deauville and Honfleur which were really beautiful. Portugal was ok but not as nice as France. Vigo was a waste of time - The next cruise discounts on board were terrible. Basically 40 dollars off a oceanview stateroom and 165 dollars deposit per person which was not refundable if cancelled. Overall there wasn’t anything wow but just ok. I don’t think it was worth the money. Once I got to airport I realised I forgot my brand new suit and 2 ties in the stateroom. I know it was my fault but there was 0 help with that. Once they take your money they don’t care anymore. That is definitely my last cruise with them and will start trying out other cruise lines. Seventh cruise with RCCL and second on Navigator. Crew excellent as usual, but seemed overworked? Dining room was excellent, so saw no need to go to speciality restaurants. Windjammer usual Windjammer, although sweets and meats fewer? Did not try for a sunbed as by 0930 they were covered in blue towels, and stayed that way.Something needs done about hogging the beds. The ship itself really needs refurbishment. Our balcony cabin deck 8 was very clean and kept donut the fabrics and fittings are faced and worn. There seems to be a combination of sell sell sell and more of the same in the Street The dining room etiquette has gone to the dogs, anything goes on any night especially formal evenings. If you wear smart casual or formal chances are that your eating companions will be interested shirt shorts and flipflops with optional baseball cap !!! Royal Caribbean are a great cruise line and I am due to go again with them, they are lucky that the crew are excellent in dining room and cabin cleaning and that they try everywhere to give good service. We cruise with RC quite regularly so it is very easy to notice the ever increasing evidence of cost cutting each time we go on board. It hasn't quite reached the point where I would consider going elsewhere but it's very close. Firstly, the Main Dining Room. Vastly understaffed. Can't blame the wait staff. It's not their fault that there isn't enough of them. Result is a very long wait between courses and the food is always cold when it arrives. I don't really wish to make complaints when I am on holiday but after 3 or 4 visits of cold food and long waits, we found it was better just to go to the Windjammer and serve ourselves. We found the food in the Windjammer to be of really good quality so we didn't miss the MDR at all Secondly, the atmosphere on board had way too much, sell, sell, sell. I appreciate RC is a business and needs to make a profit but constantly making tannoy announcements for sales of this, sales of that, does start to get irritating. Adding 18% to any and all drinks is a bit cheeky. Especially as most of the time I had to go to the bar myself due to the shortage of waiters. There is also a shortage of bar staff. Doing away with providing shampoo and conditioners is a bit stingy. I would rather pay a bit extra and have these provided as opposed to having to bring my own. Also, the ship is beginning to look a bit worn and tired.. Lots of broken seats in the lounges and carpets with frayed edges getting caught on peoples shoes. And one common gripe, there are simply not enough loungers for the amount of passengers on board. We did see a few arguments caused by guests who left towels on loungers all day even when they weren't being used. On the plus side, the cabins are kept spotlessly clean by the stateroom attendants. Two of the headliner acts were good. The comedian and the ventriloquist . The singers and dancers seemed to be just going through the motions. Read Less

The ship is starting to look tired and a little shabby in some places i.e. Carpets and stairs on the pool deck. But the cleanliness on board is second to none and the staff work tirelessly to ensure your holiday is the best. Food was wonderful. Plenty of choice in the Windjammer. Very busy at times but always managed to find a table. Food was hot, presented well and delicious. Table clearing was very swift and efficient. Food in the main restaurant Saphire was also delicious and well presented. Staff were very accommodating and tried to get a table booking as close to our requested time. This restaurant is very busy and you do have to wait a while for your food at very busy times. Plenty of ice cold drinking water was provided if you didn't want wine. Drinks were very expensive on board. We didn't take the drinks package which was on offer as felt that was expensive as well. Having said this there was plenty of soft drinks, hot and cold drinks readily available. Although the coffee was very stewed at times. So if you are a fresh coffee lover, perhaps avoid the coffee. This was our first cruise and despite a rough time due to weather in the Bay of Biscay on the return I would definitely recommend Royal Caribbean cruising. Read Less

Chose this cruise because it was the only one that fitted our itinerary and schedule and liked the fact we were in St Petersburg for two days. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent especially in the Minstral dining room. The dress code was not adhered to and it was disappointing to see some men going into dinner wearing shorts, tee-shirts and sandals whereas the ladies made the effort to dress nicely. Many services which are standard on other cruise lines were either not available or carried additional charges for example, there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the cabin therefore incurring room service charges if you wanted an early morning cuppa before leaving the cabin. We appreciate that all cruise lines will attempt to sell you extras however we found that Royal Caribbean take this to the extreme with their constant hard sell of everything from drinks packages to holidays, many of which we felt were grossly overpriced. This, to a very large extent, took the shine off the holiday for us. We pre-booked our St Petersburg 2 day Grand Tour with Alla Tours through Trip Advisor and it was fantastic. It was very well organised and very reasonably priced compared with Royal Caribbean’s tours. Our tour guide Alexandra was amazingly knowledgable and friendly and we had a comfortable 16 seater bus which enabled our driver to park nearer to the places we were visiting. Our balcony cabin was adequate with good storage space. Overall a nice ship with friendly crew. Value for money? be prepared for your credit card to take a hit for what we considered to be the very high cost of compulsory gratuities and additional charges compared with some other cruise lines. It would have to be an amazing deal before we would even consider booking another cruise with Royal Caribbean. Read Less

Wonderful ports of call and the staff were amazing, especially in the King and Country Pub and MTD. We purchased 3 specialty restaurant deals for an extra 70 Euro pp. the food was exceptional and our favourite was Fillet Mignon at Chops Grill. My husband and I usually go to My Time Dining, but thoroughly enjoyed the Specialty Restaurants. Looking forward to going on Brilliance of the Seas again. Our cruise deal included one night pre cruise stay at the Opollo Museum hotel, which was 30 minutes by bus from the Airport and cost 12.50 Euros for the two of us . Another 10 minute tram ride in the morning from our hotel to Amsterdam Central Station and a short walk to the pier. I would have to say that disembarking the ship at all ports of call was a breeze and the best and quickest of our 14 RCCL cruises we have been on. Love sailing with RCCL. We chose this cruise to celebrate the 70th birthday of my wife's aunt. Staff was fantastic. Could not fault them one bit. Food at Windjammer was good. Food at other restaurants was average to good. The ship is starting to show clear signs of age and being tired. And cruises like ours that was full of teenagers and kids doesn't help. The behavior of most teenagers was disgusting. Some were even having sex after dark on sunbeds. And kids would scream, run riot and press all the buttons in the lifts. Drunken or smoking Mums were ignoring their kids. It's a cruise, not a bloody creche. Ports and Shore Excursions were good. I went out on every port. We felt let down by the Spa a bit. They tried to charge us gratuity despite us having paid gratuity upfront. The entertainment and activities were good. Generally, the ship is starting to show some signs of age. Carpets need replacing. Wood in lifts needs changing in a few lifts. There are some areas with minor rust. I feel like I need another holiday to get over that one. Read Less

we have been regular cruisers with Royal Caribbean, indeed we were on Navigator in 2016, but this vessel has changed since then. It is long overdue it,s refit in January 2019, and gives the appearance of a well used 3 star hotel. The corridor and cabin carpets are worn to say the least and as there had been a virus outbreak on the previous cruise deck 7 and 8 had an interesting aroma of vomit as did our bathroom despite the deep clean. The dining was of the usual high standard as was the excellent service and friendliness of the hard working waiters and room stewards. The itinerary is excellent , although Palma on a Sunday is a ghost town. Entertainment and activities were the standard fare, the in house dancers and singers good. the visiting artistes , several of which we had seen before, were also very entertaining. The Ice show spectacular. The main problem is that there appears to have been a loss of "cruise Experience" the ship is tired, the dress code rubbish, high charges and blue towels spread on empty sunbeds. We had booked Navigator again in Autumn but are having serious doubts about stepping back on board. A pity such a great cruise line through cutbacks and money , money , has on this vessel gone too far? Read Less

Our 3rd cruise with RC but this time with extended family. We love the informal feel of this company and had an amazing time however the choice of food in the main dining has got more restricted each time. The waiter did say we could ask for things not on the menu but when my daughter asked for Salmon and rice she was told that wasn't on the menu for tonight! Although the headline entertainment acts have changed the events/ entertainment on each of our previous cruises is identical e.g. Circus parade and best of British. Also, no adult only areas/bars. I don't want to listen to your tired, whingy child at 11pm thank you. The Cosmopolitan club says no children after 10pm but this is not enforced. This time we did our own thing on shore and that worked well for us loved Cagliari, Cadiz and Lisbon. We were quite a walk from the town centre in Palma and I refuse to pay 40 euros to get 4 people in to town. This was an overnight and on reflection it may have been better to hire a car. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we loved it. Royal Caribbean staff were all very good and focused on ensuring we had a great time. We arranged our own travel to and from the ship which went well. The check in process was fairly seamless inc our bags being taken from back of taxi to our cabins so we could immediately enjoy and explore the ship. The cabins (spacious ocean views) did feel spacious. We were on deck 9 and right at the front of the ship which was great for seeing where we were. Dining experiences in the main dining room were on the whole superb. We didn’t see the value in paying for speciality restaurants. The ports were good with highlights being Lisbon ( the RC Land and Water excursion was superb), Cadiz ( we simply walked off the boat and had a lovely walk along the promenade and then through the narrow city streets - a beautiful city), Gibraltar ( don’t pre book - we simply paid a taxi driver for a 90 min tour of rock and caves and then were dropped back in town. Much cheaper) & Palma ( we did RC Drach Caves tour which was very good). The shuttle bus is a rip off! 20 euros each to get you out of the port!. We thought Sardinia was very shabby and wouldn’t return. Finally, we did RC tour to Guadalest in Alicante which was very pretty. The post booking info could be better and would be the main thing I would want improved. You get a link to log into cruise planner which has options to buy things like drinks package that we had already bought. The information for cruise virgins was poor, especially when you then watch information on tv on the ship that explains all the things you wanted to know before you left! Read Less

I'll start off with this - I did not even want to go to the cruise as I had apprehensions about being sea sick and bored..but NOW I'm converted, and really, I'd recommend it whole heartedly to anyone! So -- all in all, I'd say it was fantastic. There was something for all age groups - young kids, teenagers, twenties, thirties, young couples, middle aged couples, and elderly people as well! I'm telling everyone it was like being on floating 5 star hotel! All in all - here's what I thought were par excellence: -Staff: Everyone was friendly, professional, went out of their way to ensure they could help - whether it be bringing food for someone who couldn't walk well; or cleaning the room thrice a day. Also, if you're South Asian, the staff were more than happy to bring you a handmade roti/chappati at Windjammer Hall - all you have to do is ask! -Entertainment: evenings were fully booked! Theater, dance, drama, movies, dance nights, you name it - it was all there. -Sports: I loved the mini golf and table tennis/ping pong! Jogging track was great -- jogging while staring at the ocean, who wouldn't like that! -Serenity/ease: The ride was smooth sailing. Not a moment of turbulence AT ALL. At times I had to look outside to ensure we were even sailing, it was that smooth! -Timing: We were at every destination at the times promised. -Ease of embarkation and disembarkation at all ports: NO long lines, no waiting for ever - everything was smoothly handled thanks to the security staff throughout. -Views: Lovely Baltic Sea views throughout, to help you de-stress, unwind, and just enjoy the sea! -Food: Can I say food, food, food! The Windjammer Dining Hall (included in cruise price) has unlimited breakfast buffet, lunch buffet and dinner buffet. And the buffet was extravagant - 50 dishes (minimum!), salads, vegetarian, chicken, meat, sea food - gluten free, catering to whatever your dietary restrictions may be. They had a special theme every night, so we had Spanish food, Seafood, Indian food, French food night among others. -Snacks: No matter what time of the day - you will find unlimited tea, coffee, snacks, chips -- especially at the Park Café on Floor11 :) -Attention to cleanliness: We were really impressed by the attention to cleanliness - all public spaces, Centrum, public bathrooms were always spotless; and they had unlimited hand sanitizer there before you entered the Dining Hall. Really good initiative! -Lack of crowd: Although there were about 2500 passengers, 700 staff, at no point did the ship feel overflowing or crowded. This is thanks to all the space, and different entertainment areas they had, including multiple dining halls (Reflections Dining Room, Windjammer included in ticket price). -Cabin: We had an Ocean View Balcony view on Deck 7. This was ideal as since it is in the middle of the ship, it is very smooth and you can't feel the water. Having a balcony is recommended as it makes the room spacious, and allows you some air. Recommend. It was a double bed plus a bunk bed on top ( for the 3rd person); sofa; TV, bathroom, cupboard, mini fridge, AC etc. All in all, it felt a good size and not cramped at all. -Fellow passengers: Fellow passengers were friendly and nice. No large and noisy groups, no drunk people. Mostly families, singles, couples - everyone was decent and respectful. Read Less

So our first ever cruise is over. Let me suggest, that cabin 8087 should never be rented out, other than to the deaf or those that plan on partying late. The Centrum area, to which only a thin wall separates is certainly not soundproof. So one is living as with a constant ghetto blaster radio turned up next door. The ship services alleviate this by closing the nearby fire door and limiting the party to 10:45 PM. This is not so great with 2 kids and rising at 5 AM for port excursions. A silent party (day 6 update) where guests partied with headphones afforded our first normal night of sleep). We have complained daily, but there was no real solution implemented. I am not sure why the party is not held in other areas of the ship designed for that purpose, but I read that the Centrum became an entertainment area during the 2013 refurbishment. The person responsible should certainly be invited to sleep in this room for a few weeks. I hope his helps someone, it seems to late for us, as the ship was full and no other cabins were available. I am not sure why the parties simply continued in the Centrum area, until 10:45 PM. 9 PM would have been ok as a time limit for me. Read Less

I chose this cruise to see Europe the staff was so friendly. Everyone knew who you were and the entertainment staff was just amazing. The ports of call were so different from the us and Beautiful. The cabins were a good size for a family of three. The restaurants had a good variety of food and the Windjammer Café had a great buffet style to it. They had a awesome variety of activities to do on the ship and the cruise compass paper was very helpful to understand what was going on around the ship. I did the all access ship tour which you got to see the bridge the engine control room the galley and so much more it was a great experience. We did a specialty dining restaurant called chops Grill which had a amazing variety of steaks and seafood I recommend having the seafood tower the price for the restaurant per person was a reasonable price. The cruise overall was fantastic. We went on a 12 night cruise to Denmark, Estonia, Russia, Finland and Sweden. The ship was great. It was clean and well kept. My husband and I chose a balcony room. Our room attendant Abdul was the best we have had in all of our cruises and we are well over 20+ cruises. The balcony is especially important when sailing though Sweden, the country has thousands of islands which are beautiful when you are coming into port. We used RCCL for all of our excursions except for Russia. I booked my own private tour company in St. Petersburg. Starting from the beginning Skagen was very nice and we did a cruise tour there. It is interesting because that is where the North and Baltic Seas meet. Talllinn what fantastic. We happened upon their music festival which added to the fantastic day. The city tour was great and we had a wonderful tour guide. We ended up at the Skagen brew pub and had a great time which rounded out the day quite well. For St. Petersburg I chose a local company call Alla Tours. There were five of us vacationing together and I found that booking a private two day tour with Alla with our own personal guide and driver was cheaper than the two day bus tour with our cruise line. Alla Tours was fantasic. We saw everything from the Hermitage and Church of Spilled Blood to Peterhof Grand Palace. We took a canal ride and went to some small local restaurants for lunch. We squeezed in Swan Lake in the evening. All things compared the best way to go is a private tour if you can manage it in St. Petersburg. Finland we had a great guide on our cruise tour, we visited the Vodka Bar and were dropped in the square for a bit of shopping. Easy taxi ride back to the ship with no trouble. Helsinki was beautiful. Stockholm, we had our own personal tour guide amongst our party of five, she lived there for a bit. The city is magnificent. Copenhagen city tour was a bit disappointing. It was a three hour walking tour, followed by a one hour boat ride. The walking tour was absolutely packed in the city, our guide was great but there was a lot of congestion and we had a very hard time seeing the sites. The boat tour was subpar and kind of boring. The food on the Brillance was very, very good. On our 12 night cruise we did go to the speciality restaurants on board which were outstanding. The onboard singers and dancers were great. The headliners were just OK. There was a ventriloquist and he was very good. They had a Beatles headliner band and they were just OK. With regard to the weather we lucked out! We were very lucky the weather overall was warmer and sunnier than usual. Little to no rain and sunny for the most part. Amsterdam was lovely we spent a day there before we boarded the ship. All in all if you ever have the opportunity consider this itinerary! Read Less

We chose Independence of the Seas having been on the RCI previously and were really disappointed. We went on in June 2018 just after the re-fit. The re-fit was really just about putting more cabins into places which had previously been public places so we found that there were a lot more people than there were seats, sunbeds, lunch tables, etc. You had to arrive at the shows 20 minutes before the show to be sure to get a seat (not a good one - just a seat!!!) The quizzes ran out of question sheets, even if you arrived well before the quiz was due to start. The photo gallery was such a hard sell that even though I wanted to buy photos I didn't as every time I went to view them I was pounced on by staff trying to sell things to me so I couldn't look at my photos. No self laundry service either and I had to ask our stateroom attendant for everything which we had previously been given as part of the service. The food was only average too, such a shame as previously RCI had been head and shoulders above Princess, I have now booked with Princess for 2019 and really looking forward to it. :) Read Less

We picked this cruise mainly for our 15 year daughter who loves meeting teens from all over the world. 14 days and no flight sounded a good idea. This was our 4th cruise and 3rd one with RCI. While it was excellent it simply wasn’t up to the standard of our previous cruises on Rhapsody and Harmony. Far, far too overcrowded. Pros -Great food -Lovely staff -Stops all easily accessible without booking excursions - Room great - Good pianist - best skating shows I’ve seen - best cruise director so far - gym great - endless fun, bursting with activities - room spacious and lovely attendant - external entertainers very high standard - magician amazing - street party awesome and great fun - 3 formal nights with lots of participation - cocktails! - whitewater rafting trip great fun - Quizzes great fun - teenager said it was her favourite so far, club excellent and made loads of friends Cons - Several hundred too many passengers on board - need to be a adult pool 8am to get a bed (I’m at gym at 6 so not an issue for me) - difficult to get a seat in any bars - food not great in main dining. Service was appalling on second night and we cancelled remaining reservations - food in windjammer caters to junk food eaters, so this limits the choice for others- I don’t eat meat and choices were much more limited than other cruises - windjammer packed and tables not cleared - must have had some very cheap prices as some on board straight from ‘benefits Britain’. Really appalled by some people on board and was embarrassed to be Scottish with behaviour over World Cup. A horrible atmosphere that overshadowed the whole holiday - singers and dancers were very low standard, cringing watching - paid for surfing lesson for daughter and I. Advertised as 1 hour but had to share with 5 others. We got about 8 minutes each for a huge cost. Rip off. Girls instructing were excellent tho. Read Less
