Riviera Says Goodbye to the Caribbean

Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Riviera

For its final winter in the Caribbean, some cabins on the 1200 passenger Oceania Riviera have had a facelift. We just completed 19 days on Riviera visiting eastern and western Caribbean ports, and some of the changes stand out. The ports may not be what you recall. At San Juan, Puerto Rico the Riviera tied up at a great location, a short walk from the historic tourist area. Puerto Plata in the ...

We chose Oceania because of the reputation for great food and personal service as well as relaxed COVID rules. My wife and I are experienced cruisers (25+ cruises). For this cruise there was the good and the bad . The good: Food at the terrace String quartet Seaside band The bedroom The bed (very comfortable) Ability to bring your own wine Production shows The ...

This is our 14th Oceania cruise. We booked a 15th cruise and I wish we hadn't. 15 is "gold." One of the perks was supposed to be a complimentary massage. I just looked, and it seems they are no longer honoring that. It seems to have disappeared from their web page. Since we were last on the Riviera the prices have been pumped up to the point of painful. A massage is around $225 or more for 50 ...

Physically Unpleasant Stateroom 7033

The ship is beautiful. The cuisine is fabulous. We couldn't wait to get off. We were in stateroom 7033. The heating and air conditioning system only blew cold air. No matter how much we turned up the thermostat, the unit, located right over the right side of the bed, blew cold air. Even with the veranda door open, it blew cold air. Sleeping under the cold and perhaps dirty (dust? mold?) air ...

We chose this cruise to do something different. We had never been on a “luxury” cruise line and wanted to compare it to Celebrity Cruise Lines. We have been on about 30 cruises, so we have tried most of the major lines. The average age on this Riviera sailing seemed to be about 75. We couldn’t help but notice the increase in scooters, canes and walkers. I have needed all 3 of those ...

We expected more value for our money

There was a lot of advertising and lots of promises about the fabulous standard and service on Riviera, so we had high expectations. Unfortunately they were not fully met. Here a short sum up: our suite was very nice, the ship in general elegant and modern, the staff was friendly but without some personal touch, the food was just average, entertainment was quite okay, the ports of call could ...

I always cruise at the holidays at least the 10th time w/Oceania at this holiday sailing - they cook, clean and sing. What's not to like? Oh yeah, 1. scooters: I've never seen such a 'disabled' bunch of people. Research indicated U.S. ADA rules must be followed and ANYONE can use a scooter on board. The scooters blocked doorways to all venues such as restaurants, library, theater, etc. ...

The food and the food service having an outstanding reputation fell far short of our expectations. Several entrées were returned to the kitchen which were tasteless or overcooked. The veal marsala served at the Toscano special restaurant was lacking the Marcella sauce and tasteless. The egg plant lasagna served at the buffet was so undercooked that it tasted like a raw vegetable. The grouper at ...

Sadly, Oceania is going downhill.

We've cruised about 20 times and had sailed with Oceania twice in the past, including another cruise on Riviera. We absolutely loved it. Oceania had become our favorite cruise line. Not any more. We were among many passengers we spoke with who felt the same way. Always known for outstanding food, that's no longer the case. Perhaps half of the time the food was very good, The rest of the time ...

This was my 6 th cruise on Oceania, unfortunately is see the quality being eroded from past trips. Menus were repeated on a 10 day cruise, never had that before. Entertainment never a strong point with this line, generally that’s ok but this year was a repeat of the shows I saw last year. Quality of food was good, however it is never hot enough and I constantly had to request, send back etc ...
