There was a lot of advertising and lots of promises about the fabulous standard and service on Riviera, so we had high expectations. Unfortunately they were not fully met.
Here a short sum up: our suite was very nice, the ship in general elegant and modern, the staff was friendly but without some personal touch, the food was just average, entertainment was quite okay, the ports of call could have been better and even so the excursions.
Our spacious Penthouse Suite nr 9145 was very nice and we can recommend it. It has a very quiet location at the end of the aisle. We liked the big walk in closet, the comfortable bed and the nice balcony with the adjustable sunchairs.
The butler service feels a little bit ridiculous and we used it rarely. And why has a butler to beg us for good rating in the internal survey?!
We were a little bit disappointed about the food. It was okay, but not more. We had the best dinner experience in the Terrasse Café and Polo Grill.
In all restaurants they serve you with a very high speed and 4-5 people take care of you. One for the food, one for the water, one for the wine….. There is actually no chance to have a quiet and relaxing dinner. It is no problem on Riviera to eat a 3 course menu in 45 minutes.
The quality of entertainment was both good and bad.
The staff was in general very kind but without the little extra. They were just drilled to say “hello and have a nice day” and to get things right.
We really disliked the mandatory charge of 404 $ in gratuity – either you liked the service or not.
Some of the port of calls turned out as very strange, like the container harbour in Santo Tomas, Guatemala or the uninhabited island Harvest Caye, Belize.
We were partly disappointed about our excursions organized by Riviera; they did not fully comply with the description we got.

Very nice and laid back place, we liked it very much. We took the shuttle from the ship to the city centre.
Not much to see. But the sidewalk along the sea was quite nice. Awfull with all the Mexican guys who want to sell something and try to drag you into the stores. Very annoying.
The busstour to the beach was nice and the glass bottom boat trip interesting, but very short. It was very hot aboard. The guide was good.View All 42 Glass Bottom Boat Reviews
The port was a joke, it was a port for containers. We did an excusion by buss to Castle of San Filipe. Nice to see the countryside and Rio Dulce but the castlel was not worth visiting, too small.
Don´t understand why to go there - it´s an unhabited private island. They bulilt up an artiifical village which is visited daytime by tourists only. Like Disneyland. The wildlife and mangrove excursion was not good at all. We were looking for manatiees for one hour, but then you will just be able to see the nose of them..... We never went into the mangrove, we stayed outside.
This was mucher better than expected. A nice port and a nice beach and village close to the port.
