Well let me first say the crew on the boat was wonderful, no hesitation there, friendly, helpful and an absolute joy. Now on to viking. We got started on the wrong foot when the river was to high for the boat to get down river and pick us up. Not much viking can do about that. But they could have done something about the bus trip, things we missed such as stops along the way, and hotels we got ...
We were due to sail aboard the Viking Odin on a New Years Cruise between Budapest and Nuremburg, we actually only sailed from Passau to Nuremburg.
The problems started a day before we were due to leave, when we received a phone call at home stating that due to high water on the Danube we would have to spend the first night in hotel in Budapest.
We actually spent 3 nights in hotels, 2 nights of ...
After 3 nights on board we had to disembark the Odin and continue our itinerary as a 'land' cruise. The Danube was too high because of early melting snows. (Let's hear it for climate change.) There were several other ships that experienced the same fate.
Nevertheless, Viking managed to find nice buses, 4-5 star hotels, and relatively good places for 135 people to eat all at once. The only ...
Being frequent cruisers on ocean vessels(over 15) this was our first River Cruise. We arrived a few days early in Nuremberg because my wife is from Bayreuth and her sister picked us up so we could spend a few days in her hometown. Since this was my first trip to my wife's birthplace I received the personal tour of all the historical and beautiful sights! The opera house, the former military base ...
This was my first river cruise. I have done many Ocean liners, but i was blown away with this experience.
First of all, the staff aboard the Odin was top notch! Never have i met a nicer more attentive staff in all of my sailings. They were just so damn nice, and always with a smile on there face. The room was smaller than what I was used to, but it was all about the destination more than the ...
On this third cruise with Viking, the Four Sisters (ages 77-86) spent 8 days on the Danube River from Budapest to Nuremberg. This was perhaps a less strenuous cruise than those we have taken on the Rhine and Elbe Rivers. However, Budapest is an enchanting fairyland; Vienna, amazing and walkable; Nuremberg, chilling history, with interesting old cities in between.
There are long stretches of ...
We cruised the Viking Odin in September 2012 on the Danube from Nuremberg to Budapest. The cruise took us to places we had wanted to see. Our room was comfortable and well kept by housekeeping, the ship was very nice and the staff was very good especially the Cruise Director Joe, the front desk personnel and the hotel manager. The dining room staff was very attentive.
The daily excursions gave ...
We started our trip in Prague where we met our cruise director, Joe. He gave us great tips for our time in Prague. What a great city Prague is! In our 3 days there we used the underground, the bus and the tram service. Really easy to get around and the local folks were more than happy to assist us with directions. Our hotel accommodations in Prague were first rate. We especially enjoyed the tour ...
This is absolutely the best way to be introduced to a part of the world that is new to you. The brand new Viking Odin had clearly benefited from Viking's years of experience in its design and amenities. But it wasn't just the boat's beautiful interior or our roomy cabin's thoughtful design that made the trip so comfortable. It was the crew that made it made it special, worry-free and fun. I ...
My lady friend having had a cruise on a European river before Viking Odin sounded like a terrific chance to have holiday in a floating river hotel. No such luck, probably the worst holiday I and many of the other passengers to whom we bcame friends felt the same way.
The staff were terrific except for the cruise director who would have been better off on a club 18-30 trip. A very condescending ...
