This is a VERY kid unfriendly ship. Of the 3 pools we had access to we could only go in 1 which was typically freezing. We also saw a midfle school aged kid get kicked out of the gym when he was running next to his dad on s treadmill, causing no trouble. We paid extra for the Yacht club, which is a must with this line otherwise you will be waiting awhile just for the buffet. With this "exclusive club" you also got 24 h access to a butler. However literally every time we ordered room service it was wrong. It was fantastic service in the dinning room and club. We asked for milk in the room several times before they then stocked out mini fridge with a card board box that you need heavy scissors to open, which we didn't have. We also requested a crib. I called and contacted MSC numerous times prior to the cruise and I was assured it would be there, it wasn't. Contacting MSC was also a mess. We booked 11 people through Tim Bronson, the agent from MSC. He was not only not helpful, but impossible to reach. Our 4 rooms were all over the ship and not even on the same floor together. 2 of our reservations got cancelled a few weeks before the trip. Luckily no one booked those rooms in the mean time. We have cruised multiple times and this was the worst food I have had on a ship. We did multiple excursions which were not organized well and the guides were lackluster at best. The one guide refused to use the headset pieces in Rome because he "has been doing this since 1975 and didn't need it". Read Less

We did three cruises with MSC: Our first, only and last. Our ticket said food and drinks included. Yes if you "dined" at the chaotic Bistro on deck 14, and kept to iced water and coffee out of a bucket. Our balcony cabin had no sea-view as the "glass" fence to the ocean was a 1 inch steel-plate. Ocean-view only if standing up. We dined at our assigned restaurant and table, and were presented with menu with no prices -and next day we could see we had been charged with 60 EUR for a mediocre dinner. The ship docks between 3 and 10 miles off the cities, except in Palermo, and they charge you 10-15 EUR for the shuttle-bus. Any decent hotel offers that for free, i.e. included in the price of the room. We had the pleasure of many Italian families with children, and to say they are noisy is an understatement. In the pool-area talking was impossible, shouting was the only means of communication. The ship itself was fine, meticulously clean and very stylish, and the navigators showed some remarkable ship-handling when entering and leaving ports, very impressive from an ex-pro. One night we had a force-9 gale directly on the side, and rolling was maximum 2 degrees. Ship is OK, the rest is not. Read Less

The cabin was nice and clean but the buffet was extremely crowded and dirty. Very difficult to find a place near the pool. The shore excursions were the worst, we were running to check the points of interest with guides telling a story on fast forward. The “culinary tour” in Palermo means 2 rice balls on a plastic plate in a dirty crowded market and 2 small cannolis( worst we ever had) on the run. Going to Portofino means waiting to disembark for 1/2 hour, waiting to embark another ship 1/2 hour, 1 1/2 on the way and 1 hour in Portofino, exhausting and worthless. The winery tour in Sardegna was filled with wrong information and just some marketing for the factory. At the embarkation their only concern was to sell us drink packages so we got lost on the ship trying to find our cabin. That was our first and last cruise, we spent a lot of money and waste our time. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was a back to back cruise with the Poesia. We were with a group of 6. We were transferred by coach from Venice to Genoa which took about 5 hours. Only about 12 people on the coach. Good trip. Because we arrived at Genoa at about 15.30 embarkation was easy and fast - straight through, baggage arrived at cabin the same time as we did. Balcony cabin was big and neat and tidy.Much bigger than Poesia. The tiles in the Shower recess floor were loose and water leaked onto floor outside shower. Dining was below average. Wait Staff in dining room were good but it was obvious they were under pressure 'from up above'. Servings in the dining room were small and the menu was exactly the same as the ship which we just came off. No variation at all - very disappointing. Breakfast and lunch in the buffet was total chaos. Too many people pushing and shoving and the noise level was very loud. Menu's were not very appealing at all. Service in the dining room for breakfast was slow. One morning I waited 20 minutes before being served. Most Bar staff were very slow and it appeared that it was a chore to serve you. Prices on drinks menu did not include a service charge of 15%. So when you ordered a beer for EUR4.95 the bill come in at EUR5.69. Some times we would order a drink from the list and after about 20 minutes the waiter returned to say they didn't have it or they ran out. The drinks included red wine Cabernet Sauv, Cognac, Cocktail of the Day, Strongbow Cider etc. You had to keep an eye on your onboard account as I was charged twice for items I did not purchase. The onboard account on the TV screen listed your transactions but did not include the total of the bill - you had to work that out yourself. Entertainment was good but it was mainly performed by the onboard production crew, mainly dancing and singing. The Cruise Director did not appear to get too involved in day to day activities. the only time we saw him was at the evening show where he introduced the show in about five different languages. Imagine if they featured a comedy act, the comedian would have to tell the joke several times in different. How good would that be?? We did not do any Shore excursions from the ship because we thought the cost was excessive. They provided paid shuttles into town, which were also expensive, then we done our own thing. Disembarkation was good and well organised, bit different than the chaotic Poesia. The ship was beautiful, very Italian with plenty of marble and glass, plenty seating in the lounges, but the standard of service and dining experiences really let it down. Read Less

First and last time cruising with MSC! Embarkation quick and smooth, beautiful ship and good entertainment were the only good things about our cruise on MSC Divina! Problem with our shower cubicle and one of the drawers in wardrobe and it took 4 days to be resolved.Complete chaos at breakfast buffet, had to be there for 7am to try and get a seat, tables were not cleared quickly enough for the volume of people, so not a pleasant experience. Wet floor constantly at beverage station, so accidents waiting to happen! Food always lukewarm or cold in all restaurants. They do not dock close to cities and then charge 12-15 euros each for shuttle bus. Tour to last 4 hours, spent one hour each way on coach, then were allowed 1hr 10 mins in Portafino, the one place we were so looking forward to have it at least a few hours! MSC cannot manage crowds and have not got this right, staff just not trained to do the job properly, our stateroom attendant constantly moaned to us about being tired and about his work load, we also waitedover 10 mins for a waiter to return with our drinks as he was chatting to a colleague, service is too slow! They cancelled a transfer/tour we had pre-booked for disembarking and taking us to airport and could not offer us an alternative and they told us at 4 pm day before! Were able to get a transfer with the help of friends we met on ship but had to go to airport at 10am and our flight was not until 9pm! Spent a lot of money on this cruise, was not relaxing, just stressful and we were glad to leave this ship, do not book with MSC! Read Less

Well firstly the on board entertainment/activities was very poor from the last cruise I was on...the entertainment does not last long for people who don't do excursions...I got very bored on the ship...there is it enough music and dancing at the pool area....some scheduledscheduled activities didnt even take place...the entertainmet staff is not engaging enough... The casino system is very bad with the ticket system ...one would think that money would be loaded onto your card..and like myself who was could unaware lost 60 euros cause i didnt print a ticket....and the casino couldn't even tell me who then took the ticket out of the machine ...I'm sure the casino staff are very aware of this over site and has collected many unclaimed tickets for them selfs...this ship is just about marketing on board to make me money off passsagers and less worried about the passengers enjoyment....the rule that all passangers sharing the all inclusive drinks package is a total indecation of this...my cabin partner was not a drinker so why do both need to make the purchase, I find that totaly unaceptable and gready of MSC to make more money... .other than that the ship itself is very good and the food is great.....and the lack of staff understandings English is not a good thing Read Less

I'll try to keep this as simple as I can. The ship is clean and beautiful. Great Mediterranean itinerary. We liked our balcony room and very nice steward. It was noisy and not a lot of sound proofing, but I expected that. Food was not great, usual crowded cattle buffet, usual cruise ship food that never really knocks it out of the park unless you pay extra for a specialty restaurant. Not sure what all the complaints of "rude Europeans" and different language announcements are about. That was not an issue for us, and I enjoyed being around passengers from different places. What's the point of traveling!?That is where the positives stop. I gotta say, should have heeded the reviews. I thought everyone giving negative reviews of Divina were just hard to please and too picky since we had a great time on other negatively-reviewed ships. Well, this time they are right. This cruise line advertises the Divina as a large ship with an endless amount of activities, lounges/venues, and dining options. That's all well and good, but they DO NOT have the staffing or QUALITY of staff to pull it off, aside from entertainment. Everyone seemed to only sort-of know what they were doing and were unable to answer or solve passenger questions, even simple ones like, "Hi, can I use my drink coupon here?" Yes, we researched where we could use our coupons and what was included, but once on the ship a lot of things were ambiguous. And no it was not a language barrier. All the spaces were too busy and obviously overwhelmed the staff. And why have visible bar/server spaces if you don't want people to walk up there for a drink? Sorry, but no one came to us after 30 minutes so we thought we were supposed to go up to you! In the end, I felt bad for THEM, not for me. It must feel awful to want to do your job, but not be provided with the resources to do so. I think this is what leads to less smiles and poor service, not that they are "European" as some reviewers theorize. Excursions: We received tickets for excursions each evening with ambiguous instructions. You had to read your ticket AND refer to the daily program to get the info, and then get even more information at your meeting place. Even then some important details we only overheard. Just put all the info with the ticket and where to show up outside the ship like Royal Caribbean. No crowds or groups herded out all at once. This is one of MANY counter-intuitive processes on this ship. Another sour note was watching an elderly couple asking to go just a minute ahead of our disembarkation group because she had mobility issues. Nope, wouldn't accommodate (or the employee wasn't practical/knowledgeable enough to make that call) and they were herded out in the huge crowd. Just let them go! When staff know what they are doing and are confident in the processes, they know when to make exceptions. The website is a whole other issue. I canceled a couple of excursions and internet packages well before the cruise for both of us and only got reimbursed for one person. It's been 2 months and 4 phone calls and they still haven't refunded as promised. Compared to other big-ship cruise lines, MSC has a LONG way to go to sort out their processes and staff quality. Staff deserve good training, and paying passengers deserve well-trained staff. Come on MSC, step it up. If you can't, then put a disclaimer in the booking that states you can't promise the services advertised. Read Less

Friends asked us to join them on this cruise as they had never been on a cruise before. We had travelled on Princess Cruise line before and could not help but compare the two. In fact there is no comparison! Don't get me wrong Divina is a magnificent ship, but I'm afraid thats where it ends! Overcrowded, to many children onboard even making late dining a nightmare (9 o'clock) kids crying & running around. 2 smoke rooms onboard as well as smoking in the Casino....smell permeated through the ship. Food very very average in restaurants, marginally better than buffet (which was full of rude people that piled their plates like there was going to be a famine) the staff are obviously not happy. Entertainment the same every night! English about 4th down on the list spoken onboard. 15% surcharge on everything purchased onboard...coffee, drinks etc. They also tried to charge €10 per person per cabin a day!! When we questioned this we were told it pays the staffs wages...sorry MSC your job to pay wages!!! And we will tip those that deserve it!! Shuttle costs expensive. Would i recommend MSC? No way. To many unruly kids, arrogant travellers, no organisation in buffet as well as theatre...umhappy staff (no wonder with the way they are treated by some onboard) Read Less

The ship MSC Divina was absolutely beautiful the excursions great but the crew and entertainment crew including the performances at night... poor the crew was rude and seemed tired or not like they wanted to be there didn't see much smiles from anyone of them so disappointed! The on board activities wasn't fun so I don't know what I should say about it. I was on a local cruise about two years ago in the MSC Sinfonia and Opera and I can say that the Divina crew should go learn from them! They were so much fun the activities and the performances was tops! There was so much to do that we had to cancel some things just so that we could join the entertainment crew. On the Divina we were looking for something else to do because the entertainment was so useless. And you also wait for ever to catch a lift to go to another floor, on some of the other ships I've been on had no problem with that... just saying you guys need to step up your game! Read Less

We had past experience with msc-positive. this cruise convinced us never to use them again. ship is understaffed and service is poor. Guest services and excursion office were terrible-wrong information many times. in 3 different ports there were shuttle charges . ONLY IN THE NIGHTLY NEWSLETTER DID THEY INFORM ABOUT THIS- Prices ranged from 13 euro to 16 euro and because they choose to dock outside the city-there is really no choice. there is afeeling that passengers must conform to convience of the crew. The ship is very clean and weel kept-food is okay-not enough good points to cruise with them again. the entertainment was about the same everynight-same singers and dancers-only the opera evening was worth it. ON THE LAST NIGHT THE NEWSLETTER WAS DELIVERD AT 22:00 To our room-informing us to have luggage outside by 23:00 and to vacate the cabin at 7:00-again no timely notification. the ship is nice but with everyone on board-public spaces are very crowded. some of the crew do their best-but the ship sorely lacks manpower. Overall I rate our experience as poor. Here are some details. The entertainment shows, we felt had too much opera singing, it felt like it only appealed to a niche audience and didn’t appeal to the larger group. I think people were interested in seeing more flavorful acting, dancing and regular music from 50s, 60s or 70s, so we could sing along. We waited too long for waiter service, and throughout dinner he was continuously rude. Also the whole order of things seemed very disorganized, like an afterthought....extremely slow service. Also, sometimes people have custom requests, this seemed entirely impossible with your staff. Specifically when asking for salad or soup first, the wait staff seemed inflexible, and that made us feel more like a number and less like a valued customer. Then, when I tried to rent a movie in my room, more problems trying to stream it, unfortunately we were charged for movie that took two days to watch as it kept going off and the screen kept pixelating and freezing. We then went to the front desk to report about the movie problems. The desk staff refused to credit the fee, denying our problems, and also made us feel belittled...sayingthat we were the problem, insisting it played ok, almost accusing us of lying, which of course we would not. This made us feel uncomfortable and not happy or vacation like. Also we went for an off boat excursion, they took us out on a bus, but nobody was given any clear instructions on now to get back. How upsetting for the group of us. We soon realized, to our dismay that after the tour, we were stranded in a foreign country. A few us us decided to take a taxi to get back to the boat, at our own expense, which was terrible because it seemed appropriate the the bus would pick us up at the same place. The Who experience was full of stress, rudeness and disappointment. I hope you take this review to heart and improve your guest experience. Thanks for reading this. Read Less

Excellent pricing on Transatlantic Crossing. Currently sailing the MSC Divina Transatlantic Cruise and have been receiving many questions regarding the ship, the journey and the experience so far. Internet service is quite slow and intermittent so I will condense this to bullet points. 7 days left on the cruise, hopefully some of these issues will be fixed. I'm hopeful! The Good: MSC Divina is a beautiful ship. Modern decor and amenities... a beauty to be sailing on. Diamond stairs!!!! Embarkation was smooth, well organized and efficient. Ship is very clean, and constant cleaning / painting is observed. Balcony washed frequently. Nice fresh smell all around. Captain Francesco Di Palma did an excellent job navigating us through the winter weather in New York and high seas to Bermuda keeping us all safe. Public restrooms clean and well stocked. Stateroom is average size ( balcony larger than NCL and approx the same as Princess) Flat screen Interactive TV in cabin Room for 2 chairs and footrest/ ottoman on balcony Cabin steward is professional, friendly and efficient. Room kept immaculate Good variety and tasty options at the buffet Hot food hot, hint: find a table and claim it before getting your meal. It cuts down on the time trying to find a table while your food cools. Cover your plate with another to help keep food hot. The entertainment is top notch. And so is is the Entertainment team. They work their butts off and seem to enjoy doing a fantastic job. Sandwiches, light snacks available complimentary on 6th fl. Snacks, like chicken wings available in sports bar, complimentary but must consume there - Not available to take to your room The solarium is a great place to hang out, with the glass ceiling covered. toasty warm hot tubs and pool. Awesome job making announcements in all major languages. Ice tea, lemonade and tropical drinks available throughout the day Self serve ice cream machines from 12 noon till 10pm. Excellent attention to guests with mobility challenges. Plenty of deck space and deck chairs to lounge on all decks. Heated pools Excellent pizza!!!! The Bad: A high percentage of staff and crew pass guests without a greeting. No nod of the head or a smile. Communication needs improvement! Many issues can be solved by communicating at the point of contact rather than waiting for the issue to escalate TV in cabin is tiny! Way tooo small. It's hard to view it, lying in bed. The chair is on the same side of the wall as the TV, so not able to sit and watch TV. Must sit or lie on bed. Shower curtain looks dirty and moldy on the hem... no rubber mat for tub to minimize falls No bath soap/ gel or lotion provided. Shampoo and conditioner in dispenser only. Food in dining room is marginal. Service is excruciatingly slow. Staff ratio to diners is too high. Staff in dining room is so rushed they have no time to interact with diners. Rush, rush, rush. Issues brought to staff attention takes a while to be resolved. No communication regarding issues brought to attention unless expressed again. Buffet is very crowded, and looks like many guests choose to have dinner there rather than in the sub par dining room service. Buffet closes down between 12-1230pm and after 9:30 pm There should be a venue open throughout the night, only room service is available for a fee. Buffet closes at 9:30 pm. There's a charge for room service. Snacks, like chicken wings available in sports bar, complimentary but must consume there. Not available to take to your room. At NY the signs for disembarkation were sparse to non existent, trying to get off the ship took at least 15 minutes trying to find where to disembark. Ponta Delgado was much better! No MSC app (on mobile phone) for on board use, to check daily schedules or dining times. It's available in the Caribbean only, I was advised. There's a miniature bowling alley which charges $8.00 per game. The Very Ugly: Guest Services staff not empowered to solve issues. Passing of the buck, blame placed on another department and no responsibility or recommendations to solve the problem. The internet streamer plus package I pre purchased, came with 20% bonus. When I inquired on board about the bonus, was advised the packages were changed, and no additional bonus would be issued. Unable to contact Guest Services via email or phone without using your own dime! Advice to complete post-cruise form regarding issues experienced while on board. Opportunities exist to fix the issues but no concern shown on how to fix the issues. On Transatlantic Crossing... no TV service for 5 days. Understandable since we are far from any land and satellite service but on arriving in Portugal, got the same statement that no satellite service for TV but the internet service works! On further inquiry, advised they are manually resetting the TVs and should be completed by midnight. It's midnight the following day and on follow up, advised TV will be set to international satellite on arrival in Genoa, which is 8 days away and the end of the cruise. Advised that some TVs are working, but not all, It would be great if one of the TVs working was in the public area, like the sports bar or one of the other TVs that constantly show excursion information. I asked at reception desk for additional mbs on my internet plan so we could at least check the news or sports scores and was advised they were unable to do it. Guest services advised they have a news service, but would not be able to give a complimentary issue so we could be informed on news or sports. When asked for customer service email or phone number, was given info on how to complete a post cruise survey. No opportunity to fix issues until AFTER the cruise. As of noon today, still waiting for an appointment to speak with guest services manager. Read Less

While the ship's public rooms are awesome, it's not enough to make up for the cramped cabin, less than average food, loud and obnoxious travelers, limited activities and the incessant announcements at the most inappropriate times in 5 different languages. This ship is so noisy and loud, you'll be begging for a place to go for just a few minutes of peace and quiet. Oh, yeah....you'll find refuge In that tiny cabin. The MSC model is clearly designed to get you to spend as much money as you can because everything is extra and there are lots of rules that seem to change depending on who you talk to or what day of the week it is. Prepare to be flexible and roll with it or you're going to be very unhappy. We upgraded to Fantastica because I like room service in the morning..just coffee and toast and maybe a hard boiled egg. Well forget the egg, can't have it. And, as for toast, no can do gluten free because you can only get that kind of bread in the DR, but yet they say they'll accommodate GF diets. Not really. And no write-ins, that's a no, no. Entertainment was mostly opera, which was okay, but ten times! The stage presentations were average and somewhat hokey, but the dancers were exceptional. The other entertainment (ventriloquist, and a couple of singers) were substandard C Level acts, and can't help but think they were hired because they could speak more than one language. And forget the cruise director, what a loser. On the positive side, we had a wonderfully amiable cabin steward and our waiter and assistant were great. Also, the GF menu in the DR was much better than the regular menu. Our table mates were envious. The staff at the reception desk were exceptionally helpful and cheerful despite long lines and lots of queries. This was the second time for us on MSC and have to say it will be our last. The value vs. experience just isn't worth it. Read Less

Repeat cruisers on the Divina with 12 months. The 1st time there were issues and we were told they were corrected. They were not.We knew the short comings and were prepared for them, or so we thought. There was no bar service the 1st time. Now, there was bar service but if you drink required ice cream like a frozen mudslide, the bar staff would not get it for you. They told you to go the a different bar and get it yourself. In the buffet area they set up wi-fi calling discs at the tables. You hit the button and someone comes to take your drink order, only beer, wine, juice, and milk though. No Bloody Mary for breakfast. Great idea but they didn't work. There was no entertainment by the pool area during the day time so now they piped in Caribbean music followed by Country & Western. MSC cheaped out and it wasn't well. There still isn't anything to do on the ship. They had Bingo, a card reader, a palm reader, and gave a class on making a box from 2 sheets of construction paper. Seriously. People were complaining everywhere. Here's the worst of it all, It seems MSC sent out all the boarding paperwork and right up until we boarded the Divina, we were CONFIRMED for 1st dinner seating, which we HAD to have for our child who had medical and dietary requirements, which we notified the cruise line 45 days prior. We got our boarding cards and noticed we were moved to the 2nd dinner seating. this was not going to work, We were told by dining room staff that there was a large vegan group (2700 people) on board and they bumped everyone to the 2nd seating. Many people could not do 2nd seating for various reasons: older individuals who could not digest their food at that time would be ill and not sleep, people with young children who couldn't wait until 8:30 pm to eat, and us with dietary and medical requirements for our daughter who couldn't (per medication schedule of the past 4 years) couldn't be changed. MSC DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for any of us! We were told that MSC knew 3 weeks prior to sailing that they were bumping all of us and made no attempt to accommodate any of us, not did MSC even offer an apology. We were told that our comments would be forwarded to the cruise line. We were deprived of our formal nights, and no formal family photos. This was minor compared to trying to feed our child nightly. The people on the ship never even saw our dietary and medical concerns for our child. It was never forwarded to the, We paid cheap money for this cruise and we probably got what we paid for. It was nothing more than a glorified taxi ride to the islands. Upon a formal complaint to MSC, I was told by numerous MSC employees that MSC owed my family a vacation. MSC however eventually offered a 50% off discount if we went back and spent another few thousand dollars to give MSC a 3rd chance to ruin my family's vacation. They did give me 20% back from the cost of my trip which was basically better than nothing. I applied it to a Royal Caribbean cruise. MSC doesn't care about your loyalty, just your money. Spend it elsewhere. Read Less

I signed up for a Holistic cruise Feb 15th 2018. I have been on 12 other cruise lines and figured that this ship could not be that bad if 2000 people were attending this special Holistic cruise. Ha, people really need to speak up.MSC sent us a review survey which would not go the the next page so I was unable to complete it and I gave up. So here is my thought on this cruise line and why I will never sail with them again. I was unable to complete the survey as it will not go to the next page when you are in the page "which areas have the most impacted positively and negatively on your MSC cruise experience. When I select next it just goes to the top of the page. As a Canadian I had a lot of difficulty when trying to register, before the cruise departure, for your MSC club and gave up. I believe it's a glitch in the address that prevented me from doing it. I then called and the girl could no help me. So since I can't finish the online survey, here is my opinion. We felt like cattle every time we went to eat. The vegan buffet opened at 7:30 am which is much too late as well as lunch time should opened a 1/2 hour earlier. It was always very crowded around the buffet and it made it hard to walk. People wait in line for one item. Maybe split up the stations so people go to what they want to eat directly without waiting in line and passing in front of food they never had any interest in. The staff at embarkation and disembarkation for the daily stops were very rude, never smiled, never said have a nice day. the same with the staff on the outside of the ship. They need to remember this is a service industry and if you are not happy then go work somewhere else as the cruise customers pay your salary. I've done 12 cruises with 4, 5 & 6 star ships and have never had such poor attitude. I believe had the staff been friendlier my experience, comments and rating would have been better. The buffet staff and were also rude with attitude. Never said please and spoke to you as if you were bothering them. We were told by someone that they were angry at the Holistic cruise crowd and that is why they were rude with us. The occasional staff was nice and friendly but they were few. This is what allot of people talked about. The buffet was ALWAYS running out of utensils, and trays of food and it took too long to replace the tray, often 10 minutes at which point you just say, never mind. It's a beautiful ship, too bad the staff could not be pleasant. I encountered a problem at the Villa Rosa where I went at 7:45 am, expecting to be seated right away. I told the hostess that I was waiting for my party and we would be 4 altogether but I was arriving from the gym earlier and need to sit down since I was getting a very bad headache. She just nodded and made me wait. After a couple of minutes I asked her why other people were being seated and I wasn't, she replied that their party was complete and I had to wait. I explained that I wanted to sit now and she finally asked someone to sit me down. At this point I had to get aggravated again just to get water. REALLY! the food service was also bad but I won't even go there. There were so many instances and I know I won't come back. We went on the Holistic cruise for the lectures so that was great but to just go on a vacation on this cruise line, I can get much better treatment and value and appreciation for my choice on another cruise line. The people who thought it was great had never been on a cruise line or only on this one trip. Many experienced travelers were not impressed. The elevators were slow. As for my husband and I, this is purely a reflection of management. Nikki Read Less

We chose this cruise for the Yacht Club AND because it is an Italian cruise line. The Yacht Club was very nice, but the food in the dedicated restaurant was bland and uninspired. It was cooked to order but there was little imagination evident in the menu. We never saw a "classics" or "available every day" menu the entire cruise. The wines were flat and showed no depth at all. We expected nice Italian reds, but were disappointed. We only saw 1 inexpensive Italian red and it was mediocre at best. The bulk of the wine's offered were cheap (excuse me, inexpensive) California reds. They only opened @ 2 reds and 2 whites per night. To get them to open something you'd had the night before was like pulling teeth. The white zinfandel was, however, open every night. The second night, the assistant waiter started to top off my cabernet with a pinot noir before I stopped him. We didn't see the ship's sommilier until the third night. He explained that he was busy the first two nights giving recommendations to the vegan group in the main dining rooms which had been closed off for the early seatings to all but the vegans. Which leads me to the next problem with this cruise....'the vegans.' We booked our cruise more than a year out. We learned, through the Cruise Critic roll call that our ship (capacity @3500) had been chartered out to the "Holistic Holidays at Sea" organization. They had 2200+ people on board. We were eventually notified in December by MSC that this had been done, but were told that, "our experience would not be affected." They went on to say that ALL early seatings in the main dining rooms had been assigned to this group (how is this NOT affecting their customers?) I think the late seating was like 8:00 or 8:30 and there were some older folks who ate in the buffet instead as they couldn't eat that late. Large parts of the buffet seating areas were roped-off and reserved for the vegans as well. LeMuse (the Yacht Club dedicated restaurant) was largely unaffected by this group save for the loss of our sommilier. ALL of the staff in the Yacht Club restaurant seemed new at their jobs, I'd guess that this is where MSC got the bulk of the staff for the new Seaside and our Divina LeMuse staff was indeed new at their jobs. We skipped dinner in LeMuse the last 2 nights and ate elsewhere. The ship is beautiful, no doubt about that. Yacht Club staff and facilities were very nice, though they could use some shade in the one pool lounger area. The ship was sold out due to this vegan group and several public areas were to be avoided as this group conducted all manner of sales in/near these areas. They sold pots and pans, books, lectures on tape, t-shirts etc, etc. They had tables for PETA, palm readers, tables to book lectures and on and on. Very congested. The Yacht Club was largely unaffected by this group although we saw on several evenings, large groups (10 -12) of vegans being escorted to LeMuse and the Top Sail Lounge in the Yacht Club. You could identify the vegan folks by these goofy lanyards they wore around their neck with the Holistic Holidays logo visible in a clear pouch. There were vegan people staying in the Yacht Club, but we got to recognize the faces and some of the people in these groups were new to us. I'm not sure what was going on as the Yacht Club is supposed to be exclusive to members. There are some crazy stories about this group on threads throughout the MSC section of Cruise Critic....I believe every one of them as I was there. The cruise itinerary had been changed due to the effects of last Fall's hurricanes. St Maarten and Tortola had been removed. Two stops that were new to us were Guadeloupe and Martinique, both turned out to be "one and done stops." We don't plan to go back. Another thing that we noticed even though we'd done it before were the 2 sea days out of and back into Miami. We cruise a lot out of San Juan because we enjoy the Carib and its weather. In January and February, San Juan is warm, Miami and south Florida....maybe not so much. The 2 days droning along just to get to and from the bulk of the cruise is boring. For whatever reason, this was our overall roughest cruise we've done. We've cruised 25+ times so that's saying something. It rained every day. I know, 'it's the Carib, etc,' but it DID rain EVERY day...not all day, maybe not for long, but it rained during the daylight hours every day. I also understand MSC has no control over any of this, just sayin'. The Yacht Club cabin was nothing special. The darker colors initially put us off in the "average sized" cabin, but we grew to enjoy this as it's different from other lines. We missed the larger sized balcony we get on another line. The walk in closet is nice. The room had plenty of storage. The service was impeccable and timely. Room service was good. We really wanted this cruise to work. We like the whole idea of the Yacht Club, and although its not inexpensive, we saw it as our cruise line of the future. I don't think that's going to happen after this cruise. The poor food and wine choices were a deal breaker right there. The other problems were minor in comparison. The whole vegan thing, well, that was MY fault as I should have rescheduled. NEVER AGAIN WITH THIS GROUP. We did rebook another Yacht Club cruise with them for next year as we got a fantastic on board deal, but I believe we'll cancel that, too many negatives. BTW we were status matched at Black level. Read Less

Was a very economical cruise, 10 days and had lots of new ports. MSC is very international with more cruisers from Germany, France and Italy than from the USA. Expect some cultural differences. Pros: -10 Day Cruise w/ far southeast reach -Ship was large, mostly clean and modern. It looked sharp! -The room was adequate, well kept and great service. -Theater shows were good quality. -Spa was great, pre-buying our massage saved more than 50%, highly recommend booking ahead of the trip. I should have bought two or three session prior to save a bunch. Cons: -Lacking overall entertainment. Main evening show was ok, but that was it, nothing else in the evening. Day one had Wonder Woman movie in the theater at 10pm, that was it. No other movies, comedy acts or variety shows, trivia, bingo, etc., outside the theater. After dinner, you are on your own, very dissappointing. -The worst . . . Buffet entry had a hand sanitizer at the doors (2 total). on a ten day cruise, it worked 3 times total. I even saw another cruiser dig into the catch tray dregs and scoop out the run-off to get some, nasty. But wait, it gets better. The buffet never puts out silverware with the cloth napkins at breakfast or lunch. Silverware was a seek and find and almost never could you locate a paper napkin, maybe 30% of the time the put a stack of paper towels out, but they would disappear quickly. So think about it - no hand sanitizer, no napkins. Let me touch the buffet tongs with dirty hands, eat with my fingers and no napkin, get seconds, touch those tongs again, repeat until full!!! Nasty, Nasty!! I have never seen such lackadaisical attitude on the sanitizers, other cruise lines will have a Nazi requiring you to juice up every time you even enter the line, just the way it should be. -Cruise included 2,000 person charter for Holistic Holiday. Back half of buffet was strictly theirs and Vegan. Only dinner option was late seating, nothing like stuffing yourself at 10pm (heartburn anyone?). Very limited venues for entertainment accommodating their activities. STAY AWAY FROM A HEAVILY CHARTERED CRUISE, IT GREATLY LIMITS YOUR OPTIONS. -Small misplaced TV in the room. Way off to the side so watching in bed is a neck wrencher. Almost no channels, CNN, TRU and a Classic Movie channel. -Finally, not MSC's fault, but this is a heavily international cruise. If you have traveled with Europeans & Asians before (nope, I'm not racist, just a realist), you won't be surprised at the personal space/rudeness factor which was high. I was cut in front of more than I can recall. One lady acknowledged she did it at the buffet (didn't apologize, just said I think I cut in front of you), walked three steps down, came back and grabbed the tongs from in front of me again. I got to where I would not move and get uncomfortably close to them just for fun, probably didn't even phase them though. -Excursions were very limited, like only 8 or 9 options, many of which were variations of each other (beach getaway or beach getaway and shopping). Not sure if hurricanes have limited these but we spent our time walking each port and didn't invest in sub-par options. Read Less

Buffet a total disaster. Unfriendly staff, same food every day, limited seating rude people. I was told I could not have iced tea in the dining room however after tipping the waiter 20 bucks I got iced tea every day. Food quality poor. Classic steak not eatable. Casino had no crap or poker tables. Theater performers very professional and entertaining. Shows were 45 minutes long and started around 9 p.m. My stateroom was a balcony grade but the disappoint came when I found no couch in the room. There was no place to sit other than the bed. The cabin Stewart was the highlight of the trip, always smiling and ready to accommodate requests. I heard that patrons in "gold" status were getting MSC hats as gifts. Our hats never came until we made an inquiry at the desk. We received an offer for a complimentary photo that was taken at the cocktail party only to inform them we were never invited to the party. An invitation came to us the following day.. Read Less

My wife and I were very excited about booking our first cruise November 21, 2017 on board the MSC Divina scheduled to sail on January 3, 2018. Within 2 days of our booking, my wife received a price change notification of $100.00 less than what we paid for each ticket. I subsequently reached out to MSC customer service and had the pleasure of speaking with a very kind customer service representative. She was very understanding and after my waiting on the phone for a few minutes, she returned and offered me a shipboard credit and a suite upgrade. This was very nice and very much appreciated. As requested, I patiently waited for a response. After no response for almost 2 weeks to my initial conversation, and NO response to subsequent emails any longer, (I did receive 3 emails acknowledging that they were STILL checking availability), I reached out to her manager. None of my attempts was replied to and no emails bounced back undelivered. Not very professional. This was very upsetting, and I finally realized they were leading me on with NO intention of upgrading me to a suite. Hard to understand why they would have offered an upgrade. The lack of respect, lies and deceit is extremely unprofessional of MSC Cruises. I went to their corporate office in Ft. Lauderdale with a letter addressed to the President and to their CEO. I received a phone call the next day with apologies and more promises. I requested an email confirming our conversation which was NEVER received. I indicated that “If you don’t hear from new customers like myself about the poor experiences from your employees, how would you ever know what is happening. How could you possibly hope to build MSC Cruises within the American market when you have employees mistreating, misleading and deceiving new customers like myself”. After another 2 weeks, I once again visited their corporate office and asked to speak to a senior representative. Although I’m disabled, I was literally forced to wait for almost 2 hours in their reception area for a senior manager to meet with me. Finally, after I asked the receptionist to advise the person I was waiting for, he met with me. But only I asked for help. This proved to be a complete waste of time as the disrespect continued. I was always patient and completely respectful during this unfortunate incident. Bottom line is, STAY AWAY FROM MSC CRUISES. MSC DIVINA Actually, a nice ship. Unfortunately based on the experience with their corporate staff, our expectation and excitement about this cruise was less than great. Not a good way to start a cruise. IN OUR OPINION, The food in the buffet and dining room is completely tasteless. The food isn’t fit for dogs to eat. How they could possibly expect humans to consume it. The buffet was a complete nightmare every time we used it. The specialty restaurants aren’t bad. In fact, the steak we had in the specialty restaurant was among the best we had ever eaten. Unfortunately, the atmosphere in these restaurants was very bad. Our dining room waiter was great. We had heard stories from other passengers indicating their waiters were terrible. The cabins were typical. However, our balcony cabin was filthy. The safe was locked by the previous passengers. Instead of our steward making the necessary arrangements to have it opened, we were forced to wait in a line at the customer service area for 45 minutes to obtain a code. Entertainment is questionable. There are no comedy acts. No magicians etc. Numerous bars have singers that you can barely understand. The music was sooo loud, you could barely hear the singer that could hardly be understood. The entertainment staff worked hard to try to make your cruise a fun one. Many different poolside games and quizzes. Like, what is the cost of the many different cocktails. Or, what is the cost of all the individual items available in the stores. REALLY???? However, in our opinion, the main shows in the absolutely beautiful theatre were spectacular. For us, we’re avid cruisers and the fact that we were on a ship was great. We tried to forget about ALL the negative stuff. As another passenger said, “you get what you pay for”. All the ports were wonderful, and we did many excursions that were different than anything we had done before. WE WON’T BE CRUISING MSC AGAIN ANYTIME SOON. They simply don’t deserve our business. They really need to work hard to break into the American market if that’s actually what they’re trying to do. N & N Read Less

MSC has major staffing problems, with the few dedicated souls trying to maintain an image of quality. Food arrived in dinning room an hour and a quarter after ordering an often cold and mixed up at the table. Then there was a push toget you out before next sitting. Coffee was never offered. The only decent coffee had to be bought and expensive.Meats were often inedible. Fish always an option.Drink packages prices were different from venue to venue and designed to push to more expensive bands. Reason for travel was the wonderful Jazz at sea program which MSC catered to well. The ship is in dire need of refit , cabins are full of worn stained furniture. Comments on sewage smells are accurate. No religious services were offered. Passenger management systems seemed efficient and polite. In the main staff were working hard but it was obvious management pushed for maximum profit not integrity of service. Read Less

People were talking about how great their experience was with msc and the price was right for a 12 day cruise out of miami, fl that we just couldn't pass it up. well let me tell you how this started out! we arrived in miami, fl and found out it was cheaper to pay a little more at a hotel to park our car there, and take the free shuttle to the port, than to pay for parking at the port. once at the port, we found that it was extremely cold and that they have no heating in place! everyone was about 45-50 degree's in the terminal and they had the fans also blowing cold air which also let everyone cold even before we boarded the ship. leaving through miami, fl port, we found that it went fairly well and quickly and boared the ship within 1 hour of arriving! we found out that the real reason we couldn't board immediately was because the coast guard was inspecting the msc divina's records for something or other! once on the ship, the ship was absolutely breathtaking and beautiful! wow.. What a gorgeous ship! loved all the shops they had and the service seemed to be pretty good! we only attended dinner each night because the food was so bad! i mean, even i could've cooked a better dinner than what they offered and served! we found out that a lot of the crew had gone to the very newest ship that msc just came out with! apprently all the great cooks went with them! one thing we did like was that they honored all the past cruises with carnival and royal caribbean and gave us the same status once on board! all we had to do was provide proof of our status. the best part of dining was the desserts. those were really good! my poor wife was so disappointed also that she often had pizza from one place on the ship for dinner almost every night! the buffet was also lousy and the food was not appetizing what-so-ever from what we saw! i could not recommend this ship to cruise on no matter the price as let's face it, the food one of the main reasons you go on a cruise!! we also did not eat in one of the fancier costly restaurants as we felt we had paid for good food, but never really got it! extremely disappointing for sure! Msc, you will never get the american business with lousy food like you gave and offered to us! at least, we will never be back on any of your ships! this also is a family owned italian cruise line! Since the port of miami new how cold it was going to be, they could've had heaters brought into the terminal if they really cared about their passengers and how cold it was in there! everyone looked like we were going on an antartic cruise with the way they all had overcoats and the way we were all dressed just to keep warm in there! The air/heat in the cabin was also really good.. Just set it and forget it. large shower and bathrooms were nice too! Read Less

This is my first experience with MSC. Previously I have sailed on Princess and one cruise on Cunard and this is obviously different then MSC. Will try not to compare these with this one. but that is very hard not to say, “They did this on…” We chose this cruise be cause the itinerary and the time frame, being on board Christmas and New Years. But the time was a big problem because it was filled kids. That is not the issue,, their parents were the worse. The rudeness, the running around of the kids, in front of waiters, or other passengers, and the parents' saying "They are just kids," Seriously? Embarkation Firsts impressions… After reading all the stories of the New MSC Terminal in Miami, we were excited that we would be using the newer building, assuming we would be next to the Seaside. Our boarding passes listed that we would be boarding in either “F” or “G”. Found out by an Facebook MSC community member that we were in Terminal “B”, Seaside in “F”, but no other notice where we would be in. Communication was a problem with MSC from the beginning, more about that later. Now for the good and bad experience. Out of the cab, the porters took our bags and more interested then hinting about tips then putting the bags on a cart. All the bags sat on the curbside and it seemed a while before they moved carts in to move them to the ship. Noticed that because we sat in the sun for more then an hour watching them not moving. MSC did a very poor job of planning this part of the process, no signage appeared and very few crew members and staff were available to direct us or answer any questions. We saw one small sign that stated our boarding was a tad delayed by delays of disembarkation earlier. There were a couple of crew members offering small cups of water or juice, the large trash cans of overflowing and no one from the cruise ship or the cruise port came to dispose of the trash. All very bad signs when we arrived to board the ship. Once we got inside the air-conditioned building the process went faster and the staff people were greeting us with smiles and with good attitudes. They gave us our cabin cards, information how to activate our onboard payment methods, a weird way to do that bt that worked out fine, info about purchasing the internet but no map of the ship, or directions and options for lunch. We were told our cabin would not be ready for a while, but did not tell us when they would be available but that was not an issue. Dining Surprised and very disappointed. We were in the second sitting, upstairs at the Black Crab. I guess you like to use the “MDR” slang. Our servers Alex and Livan (I think) were great. We had a table of six, two other couples perfect so it was not to large to have a nice conversation. We have in the past chosen Anytime Dining, just in case… We started off bumpy with our servers when we all asked for ice and they looked at us like we were nuts. The same response when we asked for cocktail sauce for shrimp. The ice was resolved, after three nights, when bucket of ice. That made us all happy. As for the Cocktail Sauce for the shrimp, they brought ketchup and put something in it to perk it up, not sure what t was but it did not hurt us. The first impression of dining is the preparation, the presentation, how served and of course the taste. Many of the menus, especially for breakfast and lunch, were torn, sometimes stained, and not very attractive. The breakfast menu with the morning specials, were the same just about every day, nothing there special. The table cloths looked worn, threads on the bottoms and a few had existing stains. This was embarrassing. As for the presentation, serving and taste, this was the most surprising and disappointing aspects of our dining experience. 60% of the food was served just barely warm. At breakfast, the toast, English muffins etc. were all cold, not even warm. The omelet was the best thing for breakfast and was a little hotter than the rest of offerings. The choices of toast were white or brown, not very exciting or appetizing. with those choices. The presentation at meals was astonishing, at the breakfast the serving of the jelly and ja were the small packets seen in diners and again not very attractive. (Photo attached as well as a photo of the saddest thing ever served on a cruise ship) ... The Buffet. Usually not our favorite place, unless we a have an early excursion or returned after lunch. It was clean, the servers were very nice, and worked incredibly hard. Not our favorite place because the masses are nuts, the people are rude, just wandering around, moving in and out of lines, eating as they get their food and moving to their tables. The presentation looked like a buffet, that is not bad, moving lots of food in and out and keeping it hot is quite the task. The salad bar was always clean and constantly refreshed. The best part in this buffet was the pizza, usually four different pies to choose from. Hygiene at the buffet is the most troubling aspect. Just about everyone does not use the sanitizer, or Purell when they enter the buffet and the other restaurants. They should have the dispensers on both sides of the doors even having a staff member and better signs encouraging people to use these. Many in the buffet will refill their coffee mugs and glasses then getting a new glass. Enrichment Activities I did not notice any of these activities, I could have missed this especially if it was placed in the “Program”. Unless they consider Bingo, Trivia, Quest, Scavenger Hunts and Karaoke enrichment activities. Entertainment Entertainment tastes are very subjective, so my comments are my personal observation, although I did have many people saying the same thing. I had heard before that MSC entertainment was of the best on the cruises, so my disappointment was also very surprising, they advertise there is a different show each night, and the first night was great, but the rest of the shows looked the same, predictable. The “cast” of the show, included three vocalists, two sounded more like tenors then singers, but they were all great, a Soprano and Opera Tenor, she not so great, two Russian Acrobats, a group of three guys also doing some acrobatics stuff, a ballroom dancer couple, a Russian woman doing more acrobatic stuff on a chain curtain ring, and an amazing Salsa couple who were fantastic. And the Divina Dancers. The singers were great and do the actual singing, they do not use a live band, not real music on stage, they use prerecorded tracks with much performed lip synced. The cast walks on and off stage like walking with Pop and Circumstances, very unnatural. The variety acts all were great and very talented, but they looked the same on every show they appeared, although the Salas couple was amazing on the two or three shows they appeared. The stage and lighting are very boring. The stage has four sets of stair cases they move around, and put some props around them, and yes boring. Found out later our ship tour, that the revolving stage was broken and have not been used for a while. The dancers were great, but most of the time in darkness, td by the stage manager that they were too be in the background and not featured although you can light them a little more exciting. And note to the production company and directors, let the dancers sing. They only sang in one piece at the end of the show, they are very talented, not just dancers. Fitness & Recreation We did use the fitness center and the Aurea spa. The fitness center was great, the equipment was new each with access to satellite tv, and the spa treatments gave us access to the Thermal are, they could have some more lounger chairs, and the locker rooms could be refreshed more often, towels, mopped floor etc. But that was a great experience. Spa pet peeve on all the ships, the hard sell of the products. I know they are instructed with the hard sell, but not interested in $197.00 of face cream. They never take no. Onboard Experience The ship is beautiful but some weird design and some space limitations. The photographer people are set up in the middle of high traffic areas, and not situated in places that makes passengers move around. they use ordinary backgrounds on these photos and their display of photos are stuffed into bins and very hard to find. They miss a big opportunity for sales by not taking photos when we get off the ship at the excursions ports. I like getting a set of photos from all the ports. Photo of the ship, the date and port and photo very saleable. If they did this that was not obvious. They have these entertainment crew acting silly, but could be in photos with this or costumes maybe. Shore Excursions The excursions we picked were great. Some confusion and inorganization did happen in Ocho Rios, took us more than 90 minutes to get off the ship, sit in the sun and get on to the bus which was a 3-minute drive. The port there was too small and not very attractive. Service Service on board was very inconsistent. Our steward and dinner servers were great. We did have a few servers for breakfast and lunch were not very pleasant. Made them feel like they were doing us a favor. Of course, serving barely warm food may add to their attitudes. While many of the people at the front desk are very personable and carry with smiles they are not trained to answer the easiest questions. Having to ask others for responses and getting different answers very frustrating. They do have great patience working with different languages and cultures. Maybe a quide book at each service station that they could refer too under the counter? Maybe copies of the “Program” at the desk would help? No one should have to go get this from the different desk only to find out the three people at this desk have three different answers. As for the “Program”, again another hard to do, with different languages, I give them lots of credit for that, but the fonts are hard to read, and seems to change. Information on page three is different than page five, there are lots of spelling mistakes. Again, the first impressions, we have become nick naming this as the “MSC Misinformation” or “MSC Misprint”. Again, the first impression on the ground before we even got on board was very negative. Customer service was inconsistent and mostly badly trained and had some sounded like they were just there and not providing customer service. As for the website, that was an embarrassment. I will not go into the problems, and hassles I had to get information or confirmations. The one person at the website support phone call was the only honest person when she said, “Our website is not very good”. Read Less

My husband and I choose this cruise because we wanted to get away for Xmas and New Years and the price was good. Restaurant staff was fine, but food wasn’t the best quality and was served lukewarm. The night my husband and I ordered turkey dinner the stuffing was a teaspoon size serving.. The night they served filet mignion and lobster tail the meat my husband ordered came very rare and mine was well done, we both ordered our meat medium, when I asked for drawn butter for the tail they did not have any. We had a balcony which I was very excited about but the room had so much dust on the baseboards ,bottom air vents of the refrigerator had about 1/4 inch of it. I then climbed on the couch to swipe my finger on the picture above it and guess what I found ,more dust. I had a bandaid come off in the shower it was 4 days and only after a complaint that it was cleaned up. Entertainment was fair, singers all sang with accents. The only show that we really enjoyed was the Michael Jackson one. Loved the typewriter routine. The singers that were brought in citizen West were the best.
