1. I chose this cruise for the itinerary: Hawaii with many days at sea (which I love). With the pandemic still on, I felt safer on a cruise with fewer ports of calls. And I had never been to Hawaii, which was on my bucket list. Also, the price was great. Beware: this itinerary attracts lots of older people. I'm 67 and I was part of the young crowd!

This was originally the first segment of an around the world cruise. There were a couple of Itinerary changes prior to departure due to countries not allowing travel. We were disappointed that we would finish the segment in Papeete vs. continuing on to Auckland. New Zealand, Fiji, American Samoa, along with some ports in French Polynesia were cancelled. We had been quite isolated and without any of our favorite pastimes of cruising, fine dining, socializing (did I mention cruising?) for over 2 years. We chose this cruise over three years ago, in November of 2019. We were originally booked for October 2020, and we were so excited. By April 2020 we realized that our cruise wasn't going to happen, and we lost our enthusiasm, stopped the countdown. They didn't cancel our cruise until July 2020, three months out.

Sailing on Emerald Princess was a great experience. Captain and staff were great communicators and provided great service. Hawaii has been on a bucket list for years and having sailed on Azamara Journey before and liked the small friendly ship, this looked like a great trip. It was a lot of sea days, 11 out of the 18 on board. In a nutshell: Consistently best food we’ve had on a cruise ship. Special events were well above most other cruise lines. Service was good, but lacked the “sparkle” of other high end (and more expensive) cruise lines that try harder to exceed your expectations.

Their lecturers were quite good and Tom Jones (astronaut) was one of the best lecturers I've ever heard, and I have been a presenter at large conferences.
