We chose this cruise over three years ago, in November of 2019. We were originally booked for October 2020, and we were so excited. By April 2020 we realized that our cruise wasn't going to happen, and we lost our enthusiasm, stopped the countdown. They didn't cancel our cruise until July 2020, three months out.
Well we rebooked for August 2021, but you know what happened. Then our travel advisor at Princess recommended the 2021 Christmas cruise to Hawaii round-trip from LA, but I have too many responsibilities to be able to cruise at Christmas. Finally Princess offered their best sale ever - everything included: gratuities, wifi, premium drinks package, specialty dining, two bottles of wine. So we booked the 4th January - 19th January 2022 cruise. On the 19th of November that Christmas cruise was canceled. And our ship, the Grand Princess was the first ship back in Hawaii.
The ship's passenger occupancy was less than 50%. We never had to stand in a line or wait for an elevator. We had Club Class dining which was amazing. We ate in the Club Class dining room on embarkation, and embarkation was a breeze. We picked up our medallions at the Port, so we were in the blue lane. Our travel companions were in the green lane, and we were finished before them. We all had to have a negative Covid test, within 24-48 hours along with our Covid vaccine cards. We were required to wear mask in the Port and onboard the ship, except in our cabin and at meals.
We were thrilled with our Club Class Mini Suite . We were close enough to the mid ship elevators but not so close that we heard them. The two of us had plenty of room and plenty of storage. We loved having a tub. The sitting room had a sofa sleeper, so another guest would have fit in our cabin.
We took a small group excursion to the Guadalupe Valley and had a delicious six course meal.
We were in a 12 passenger van. We went to the farmers market, OK Farms, Rainbow Falls, Volcano Garden Arts where we had a picnic, Hilo Candies, and Volcanoes National Park.
We walked around Waikiki then went to Germaine's Luau
Our Kauai shore excursion was no fun from the start, not the tour guide's fault
We took a small group (8) excursion to the road to Hana. We had the best guide! He explained all the flora and fauna we saw. He took us to the best beaches. We had a picnic.
