We usually cruise with P and O, but were told by our travel agent that P and O had no cruises going to St Petersburg this year, so ended up booking with Royal Caribbean. We later found out that she had made a mistake, and P & O did have cruises to St Petersburg, but we didn't really mind as we thought it would be good to try another line. Boarding the ship was easy, and we found our stateroom, very good, and we liked the ship and its layout very much. The quality of food on board was excellent throughout all the eating points. The staff are very friendly and obliging and are determined that you are going to have a good time. The ship is well designed and laid out, plenty of lifts, stairs and toilets. We found that the Royal Promenade was always crowded with tables selling things, and it was difficult to pass through. Sometimes the music in various places was so loud that we could not talk, but after commenting on this it did seem to have been turned down a bit. Some of the entertainment was very good, but we did not think it was as good as P and O. We thought the surf rider, wall climbing and sports activities was wonderful for younger people, and we liked the golf putting course. We found that drinks were expensive and had we not had a drinks package included in our package, we would not have had many alcoholic drinks. It was disappointing that at most bars we could not have a coffee or tea as an alternative to alcoholic drinks. We only found tea and coffee in the Windjammer and the Promenade. Items on sale in the shops on the Promenade seemed very expensive. The ports of call were good, but we had to pay for a shuttle into town where we had not booked a shore trip, and this added up to about £100 over the whole trip. We have always had the shuttle provided free on our P and O Cruises. Disembarking from the ship at the end of the trip was easy. Disappointingly on sea days, although there was a huge list of things to do, most of them seemed to be trying to sell us expensive items, spa treatments, art sales, watch sales, auctions etc, and the cinema was at the pool side, which was not good on a cold windy day. We ended up spending a lot of time just wandering round the ship or watching television in our cabin. Read Less

The ship was a great ship, food was outstanding, bars and theatre where great but finding a seat was very difficult at times. The staff where polite and helpful. the cabin was a good size but the bed sheets pillows and mattress where stained and yellowing in colour, carpets and sofa where also stained. Royal Promanade shows i,e Britannia and Dance Party are repetitive ship to ship so once seen, you only see same again just different people so this could now do with an overhaul, to maintain entertainment shows on the promanade. The Cafe food is now alot better than previous years with alot more variety available. Seating is still a problem, dispite warning signs the water stations are still being breached with people contaminating the water barrels by placing used bottles unter the taps so to refill them this is not pleasant for other users and is a big risk of spreading any health infections from these offendors to the other passengers. so if you are guilty of this then please "STOP DOING IT !!! and stop using your children to do this for you too. Food and service very good. Main restaurant preferred as buffet restaurant very crowded and stressful at peak times. The speciality dining venues were mixed. The steak house and diner were good but the mexican poor(bland tasting food) Entertainment average 'star act's not very good. Cruise entertainers good but content not average(and only a few shows). Seating space extremely limited (especially on sea days) often impossible to find a seat, main lounge was often used for over events e.g. Art auction which made the situation worse. The Gym was very good with plenty of machines. The shore excursions were mixed, St Petersberg was a nice place but immigration/traffic and long delays in entry to palace made the experience poor. The museum visit on the 'Gent industrial museum and sight seeing tour' was poor. The Oslo Icebar was mixed(imagine Ice walls and sculptures in an office block with false ceiling...) TV is staterooms was poor there was limited content which was constantly repeated e.g one or two programmes from a given program repeated every day. Rentable movies were very expensive. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had never been to the Ports of Call and had cruised with RC in the past. The experiences had been exceptional. Not this cruise, however-- in the interval since out last cruise, the art of cruising has been replaced by the economics of cruising. It would seem that RC has followed the lead of the airlines and has unbundled many amenities and charged a la carte for each one. Simple amenities, such as the daily news, wonderful choices at dinner were gone. Food at breakfast and lunch, while plentiful, was dull and repetitive. Dinner was a compilation of strange combinations of foods, heavy on the sauces. Regular sized shrimp were labelled Giant Prawns. The Navigator is showing its age and should be relegated to the Caribbean. During the days when the weather was not conducive to sitting at the pool, sitting areas were at a premium or simply not available. Perhaps if some of the larger rooms were made available, it would have alleviated the problem, but that would have interfered with income generating activities. Service, both in the rooms and in the dining areas was exceptional. The Staff work very hard, long hours, yet remain pleasant, courteous and helpful at all times. Read Less

For complete details, please see my blog post about this cruise at https://beentherethoughtthat.blogspot.com/2017/07/a-review-rccl-scores-big-on.html This cruise was highlighted by exceptional service, excellent food and solid entertainment. This itinerary was excellent with the highlights being St. Petersburg, Coppenhagen, Tallin and Bruges. Helsinki and Oslo are pleasant, but don't have the "wow" factor of the other two. Food was very good in both the dining room and Windjammer. Embarkation/Debarkation were amazing. Sailing from Southampton, England is outstanding. Well organized, no lines and very pleasant RCCL staff. The on-ship service was outstanding no matter what function -- security, servers, cabine stewards, etc. This may have been the most consistent and pleasant service we've had on nine RCCL cruises. Entertainment, like any cruise ship, varies. The production numbers were solid. The comedians, as cruise ship comedians have been known to be, are mediocre. However, Toni Warne, second-place finisher on “The Voice UK” and Graffiti Classics, also UK based were beyond exceptional. As for the cruising experience, don't prejudge it by the service you get from RCCL's U.S. operations. The corporate folks should take a lesson from their onboard counterparts. My husband and I cruised on Harmony of the Seas for our honeymoon last summer and were so impressed that we booked this cruise in October, based on a special offer on the company's website; however this offer wasn't actually honoured for whatever reason (according to the website advert, full beverage package and wifi were supposed to be included, but they were mysteriously absent from my booking without me realising - why would I, as far as I was concerned, I booked a package deal, I had no way of knowing anything otherwise!) Upon boarding the ship, I was immediately struck by how much smaller and shabbier the ship was, compared to Harmony - fair enough, it IS older and smaller, I just hadn't realised just how much smaller it would be. The cabin is very small, but adequate. Our stateroom attendant was very attentive but the room itself is a bit shabby and dusty looking. We mainly ate in The Windjammer because I'd pre-booked 8.30 dining time and we were usually hungry before then, so only ate in the Dining Room twice - it was lovely both times. The Windjammer food, in my opinion, looks great but tastes bland; a lot of it just salty without there being much flavour of anything from it. I eat meat very very rarely, so tried the pasta and rice dishes, which looked good, but just tasted of nothing!! And the actual vegetables on offer are very sparse; many nights I would only see literally one dish of vegetables; maybe 2; something like sliced carrots and sweetcorn in one dish, and green beans featured quite a bit. The age demographic was old. (we are aged 36 & 40, so we're not young party animals!) It took til Day 5 before I found a seat anywhere on the central promenade, and at that point, we'd already felt obliged to give our seats up twice to older guests - once for the emergency drill and once in the Windjammer. As a result, I feel like the entertainment was probably tailored to the older crowd and even in the karaoke and nightclub, the DJ was terrible - just terrible! The ports of call were fantastic, Oslo is expensive; when we got off the ship, it was raining so everyone dashed to the souvenir shops in the port to buy umbrellas and hats, all of which cost around 10 euros each. We bought 2 coffees and 1 hotdog to take away from a shop and it came to about 15 euros. It is a lovely city! Copenhagen is colourful and pretty, Helsinki is interesting and friendly, St. Petersburg is absolutely magnificent, Tallinn is quaint and Brugges is beautiful. The port days were brilliant, but the sea days were long, cold, wet and windy. You can't spend much time outdoors, so it gets very irritating on the Royal Promenade with so many guests squashed together indoors all day. Read Less

My husband and I were wanting to see the Baltic and this cruise itinerary was appealing and met our expectations. St Petersburg, Tallinn, and Bruges were particularly enjoyable and not all itineraries of the Baltic go to Bruges, so this was a bonus. The weather cooperated all but 2 days, so we were fortunate. The dining room food was perfectly fine for us and the service was great. The food and service in the Windjammer was satisfactory and on the last day, the manager asked for our opinion and suggestions for improvement which we did. That evening, we were surprised to receive thank you snacks delivered to our cabin from the manager which we thought was an added touch. We only took two Royal Caribbean shore excursions because they're overpriced usually and the quality has degraded compared to external shore excursions. The price of the transfer to Heathrow was more expensive than a cab for two; the price of the transfer is way out of whack. We used TJ Travel shore excursions for 3 ports of call and they were excellent, we highly recommend them. The Royal Caribbean shore excursion in Oslo was disappointing because the guide did not use a microphone so we couldn't hear him in the Viking Museum. We had 25 minutes in the Viking Museum, 21 minutes of which was used by the guide to explain the 3 ships which we couldn't hear, and 4 minutes to go to the toilet and see the rest of the museum, hardly enough time. At the Vigeland sculpture park, the guide proceeded to explain almost each statue in detail. Royal Caribbean's shore excursion manager did call me to ask for my comments and although the guide was very knowledgeable, my suggestion was for the guide to use a microphone and to spend more time in the Viking Museum and less time explaining each statue in detail at the park. He appreciated my comments and he said he would forward them to the company for improvement. The Royal Caribbean shore excursion in Bruges was fast-paced and okay. We initially couldn't hear the guide during the bus ride so we had to shout a few times from the back of the bus to indicate we can't hear. The guide was knowledgeable and we only had 1 hour of free time in Bruges which is not enough and should be extended. See separate cabin review. Regarding the entertainment, I took the opportunity to ask the customer service manager why the movies that are played outside are not moved to the theater on cold days and she said she would look into it. I also complained about the lack of free programming on the tv, the same 4 episodes were played back-to-back throughout the cruise. She explained that licensing agreements prevent Royal Caribbean from playing certain shows on tv, but I don't recall that being an issue on previous cruises, so there are obvious cutbacks. She did confirm that others have complained about the same thing and head office is aware. Tip - Load your electronics with tv shows and movies for the cold days at sea and bring an HDMI cable! For the most part, we did not take in many of the activities on the pool deck because it was cold or cool most of the time. We saw the ice show and the singer from The Voice UK and both were excellent. We are platinum members, but given what happened during this cruise and we're noticing cutbacks, we're reluctant to sail Royal Caribbean again and we'll be entertaining other cruise providers. Navigator of the Seas was the wrong ship for a Baltic Cruise: As no one was outside due to cool weather, there just wasn't any room anywhere on this ship to spend any time outside of your cabin. We were with a group of people and it would have been great if we were able to spend some time together on the ship (other than meal time). All venues were always fully occupied, with no place to sit. Movies were outside instead of in the theater. The one TV channel (other than news) was repetitive EVERY day. When I did complain about the lack of room on this ship, I was told by a customer service representative that it was because people weren't outside. Duh! This was a BALTIC Cruise! They used the wrong ship. Since they now charge for room service and, additionally they have areas set aside for specialty restaurants, there wasn't enough seating room in the Windjammer buffet for the number of guests. In fact, we had to carry our breakfast down to our stateroom several times and one time I had to find the Manager to open more seats at dinner time (why he couldn't do this without guest prompting is unforgivable especially when crew members were dining in that sectioned off area). Food in the main dining room was mediocre at beast (for example, the steaks seemed to be pressure cooked then lightly seared to make it look like it was grilled). In addition, it seemed like everything on this boat was designed for you to spend more money instead of enjoying the cruise. How many notices could I get regarding Next Cruises, jewelry sales, etc., in one day????? Also, as many many of these sales venues (e.g., Next Cruise, Art Gallery, Photos) took space away from places to sit (alone or with fiends) on the ship. This was my eighth cruise (my 4th on Royal Caribbean), but it is the first time I was unhappy enough to write a review. Read Less

First time for 20 years with Royal Caribbean. We had a balcony cabin on deck 7. The cabin was a nice size with ample storage space. An adequate but small shower facility. The King sized bed was really comfortable with a firm mattress, just the way we like it. The tv had few channels and needs an upgrade in our opinion. Charging for films was a bit of a suprise and was also unreasonably priced. Our cabin steward whilst being friendly we felt was not on the ball and did the bare minimum every day. Windjammer restaurant was run like a school canteen and the layout was badly organised with no set fluency. Food was ok but that was about it. We had the My Time dining which on reflection was a good choice as the quality and choice of food was very good. We were fortunate to have two excellent servers in Alvind and Stephen. For breakfast we decided to go down to the sapphire dining room on deck 3 as this was much better than the bun fight in windjammer. Good selection of hot and cold buffet foods so no complaints. For lunch it was only on sea days we were allowed to use the same dining room. There was a ridicolous insistence on the staff putting your salad plate together for you. A buffet salad should be exactly that, you help yourself, please explain this RCL? The main course menu was extensive and very good quality. Another major complaint was the bread choice was the worst we have ever experienced. Whats happened to the crusty rolls you can cut yourself and where's the brown and wholemeal bread? On a positive the staff were always on the ball and friendly. Unless you have already purchased a drinks package the bar prices are extortionate. An average price for a glass of wine was around the 12$ mark with a beer coming in around 9$. If we had not already prepaid the drinks I would have been forced to go tee total. Entertainment was well produced, varied and exceptionally good. The major complaint was the extras. Costs of wifi for the week 150$. Totally unwarranted and just plain and simple crazy pricing. Shore excursions again totally overpriced. If you compete with the onshore providers RCL you will have no problems selling these and still make adequate profit. The premium restaurants again had silly pricing issues. The staff are obviously told to push these but nobody with any sense is gonna take these up at the extra prices insisted on. Read Less

This was our 10th cruise, and our 2nd with Royal Caribbean. The staff was very polite and helpful. We had a balcony room and it was a typical balcony room square footage-wise and storage-wise. I would give the food a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The problem we encountered was venues were not large enough to accommodate the large crowd that wanted to participate in the activity (i.e. trivia contests, etc. in the Schooner Bar and Star Lounge). Even if you got to the venue early enough (i.e. at least 30 minutes) all the seats were taken. Also, the movies (all current films) were shown only outdoors (they should have been shown indoors in bad weather in the Metropolis Theater, but that wasn't done). Ship excursions (especially the panoramic tours) did not give enough time for shopping (I suppose R.C. wanted you to buy your souvenirs on-board). The tours we were on did not build in a "comfort stop"--you either used the bathroom or saw the site...there was not time to do both. R.C. advertises tours for mobility impaired people...most of those never happened even though there were enough people on board with scooters, canes, and wheelchairs that could have filled them up. Several functions were held on the Promenade Deck, which when held resembled Times Square on New Year's Eve. IF we book a cruise with R.C. again, it will be on one of their smaller ships where the different venues can accommodate those interested in attending and book tours with outside companies that advertise smaller group tours. We had never cruised these ports before and it was one cruise we had talked about for several years. We were not disappointed. Navigator has a great crew and the ship is kept in great shape. The RC land tours were well done and very enjoyable. We would highly recommend this cruise. The only negative on this particular cruise is the same issue we have with most of the Royal Caribbean cruises. It is obvious that the food quality is going downhill. It seems the ingredients are getting cheaper and the selection of good food is getting cut back all the time. The dining room service is as good as ever but the food selection and quality is just not there anymore. There are other cost cutting issues that keep getting implemented and the sad thing is that only the long time cruisers seem to notice. RC is obviously playing to the younger, newer cruisers who don't realize what they are no longer getting. For us older, loyal cruisers it may be time to look for another cruise line who still appreciates the folks who cruise all the time. Read Less

We are ardent and addicted cruisers (just in 2017 we are having 6 cruises). We love good service and we are willing to pay for it. So we choose to sail as suite guests. Before we book this cruise we've been told, that the cruise ship was refurbished in 2014. We also been told, that the beloved coastal kitchen will not be on board, however the Chops will be operated very comparable as breakfast and lunch venue. Well - to make things short. The ship is old and the suite was everything else but refurbished. The carpet was from 2002, as was the furniture. Many doors did not close, some parts of the furniture been loose or missing. Not only that, also simple fixes like paint or glue wasn't used too much. Not only that the suite was very old and down lived, it was also bad maintained and dirty. The overall cabin experience was very disappointing. The concierge lounge was dark (no windows) and stinky. Not really a place you like to be in. The concierge itself is great, but what can she do if the ship is just not what it should be? Also - she has not the power to fix things. We asked plenty of time to talk to the F&B Manager but it was denied until the end of the cruise. Dining - a huge and important task of cruising. The quality of main dining food was very low. We just disembarked Norwegian couple of weeks ago and the difference is like day and night. Quality of food on the Navigator was low and the service probably the grumpiest we ever seen on a cruise ship. We complained but nothing changed. Not a single bit of smile on the service. We tried it 3 times but then we gave up. Paid extra for the specialty restaurants or just went to Windjammer. Windjammer was a bit better from the food but the quality of ingredients been low to. Chops for breakfast and lunch - what a joke. No passion, no love, no suite service. Lunch is only served on sea days, and then, you are having 3 dishes to choose from. Chicken, Beef or Vegie. Every sea day the same. Also - on sea days every "normal" guest could come to have lunch at Chops - for 20 USD. But surprise, that guest receives a full menue with plenty of choices. What a joke - a suite guest which pays thousands of dollars extra upfront will be served 3 choices and every other guest can upgrade for 20 USD for a much better experience. Room Service - had nice menus in the room, but if you want to order it happens 8 out of 10 times, that they told you it is not available. On the other side - breakfast on room service was excellent. Specialty Restaurants - Chops was ok but far below the experience of the bigger ships. Sabor was "so la la"... probably a 3 out of 10. Giovanni was unexpectedly the best experience. We really liked it, but again and I would give a 8 out of 10. Drinking - well - I love wines therefore I have the Ulitmate Package. There are a lot of wines by the glass. Many are below 14 USD but most are above (means you have to pay extra). That wouldn't really be an issue, but most of the wines have not been on board at all. So you order a wine and you have been told that the wine is sold out as it is just the second cruise after the Atlantic transfer and the restock didn't happen yet. Well - I have to pay the full fee and expect the full dining and drinking experience. By the way - it happens 12 times that the wine I was asking for wasn't available. Cocktails are ok - the pool bar guys are great. The windjammer team is 50/50 - half is great and half is lousy. Again - it misses the passion of the team. As I said we had the ultimate package - but please don't try to order a Espresso and a water on the same time. They will tell you "only one at a time". I would understand if I would like to order two beers on the same time, but an espresso and a water - in most restaurants this is standard anyway. Big mistake Royal! The shows - a lot of singing, but no musical or big show like on other ships. The concierge seats are on the upper balcony - so make sure to bring your googles otherwise you are not part of the show. The ice show on the other hand was amazing. Very entertaining and a lot of fun. Internet - well, RCL did it again. They sell you Internet Voom Service but it is everything else then Voom. What happens is, that they are having Satellites up there which are beaming into the main sailing regions to provide fast internet. This works well in the Caribbean and Mediterranean. But (all experienced by ourselves) - if you are sailing in areas like Asia, Mid East, Northern Canada or like in our this year trip in the Baltic sea - there is just almost no reception. Means - you might be able to receive a text message but please don't even try to stream movies of sending pictures to the beloved ones. What I don't understand - RCL knows that before selling it but they still do. Nevertheless they tell you to read the disclaimer that this can happen. I think this is fraud! Selling is actually also a key word. After complaining at the main dining room our head waiter came and said sorry. He then said "we are offering Galley Tours" and asked if we would be interested. We thought it is kind of a nice gesture after having a bad dining experience. But after we said that we would love to join for the galley tour he said, this will be 35 USD per person. So even in the event of bad service and saying sorry, the head waiter tries to sell something. Also - you can hardly walk the royal promenade as it is overloaded with sales booths. Whenever you are walking through the ship they try to sell you something - souvenirs, massages, specialty restaurants, shoe insoles, etc. etc. .... you feel like on the Royal Bazar. Disembarkation on port days. Well - badly organized. In Saint Petersburg it took 90 Minutes to leave the ship. People been queuing up and squeezing on the stair cases. The cruise director announced that "we are working on it" instead of organizing things better. Would have been easy to tell people to go back to their rooms until things are organized. I also would expect to have for suite guests an extra exit. Again - it is not existing. Other cruise lines are doing that - Royal not. What else to say - well, I could complain a lot but don't want to over stress the situation. I would not recommend to book a suite on this ship as you don't receive much of an extra service or any perks you really would enjoy. You are treated like everyone else even by paying a lot of extra. The ship is old and did see the best days long time ago. The refurbishment in 2014 was majorly the extension and adding of many rooms. It was more about making more revenues instead of adding a better and fresh cruise experience. Overall experience - you can feel that the company saves costs on every corner. You also can feel that they have a head of revenue on board (thats actually the only Officer you really can tell it is on board!). Everywhere they try to sell you something. The ship is old and needs an overhaul badly. The crew needs to be trained and the concierge lounge needs to be relocated to a place with windows. On top of it - add the Royal Suite Program. This here - is anything else than a sweet suite experience. Read Less

Overall the ship was clean, the cruise director called Cuddy was amusing although rarely seen during the day. The activities were enjoyable. We did mostly on our thing at ports of call. We did a SPB tour in Russia, I highly recommend them, groups are smaller and the price is much less the RCI. We heard from many passengers that they were disappointed with the RCI tours, overpriced and the tours were to large. At certain ports of call the RCI staff were useless, no help what so ever... when you do your own thing in each port of call. I have found over time the service has gone done, no chocolates on pillows at night, not even a writing pad or pen in rooms. The major disappointment was the food, it lacked taste and the desserts reminded me of desserts bought at Costco. The Windjammer was horrible. Same menu each lunch and dinner. The hamburgers were horrible. Eggs in the morning were soaked in water. I found in the past we had 3 people serving our dinner table, one head waiter, one assistant who took care of drinks as well. In the past there was a third person to take care of drinks. The waiters in the main dining room were awesome, great service. The spa massage treatments were mediocre for the exuberant prices. The seminars in the spa…were basically to up sell products…..too pushy, same with the restos on the ship…always trying to sell. The ship was clean, staff were friendly. I highly recommend taking beverage package, drinks are seriously overprices...and stay away from spa. Read Less

Embarkation in Southampton went smoothly and quickly and we had a fair bit of time to explore the ship before sailing. Our inside cabin had the virtual balcony, and felt much larger and brighter for it. We were a bit disappointed with the dining and entertainment, the food was average at best and the menu selection limited. The same menu was offered on formal night without the usual special selections. The menu did offer lobster and decent steaks at an additional exorbitant cost. The nightly entertainment was hit and miss, for me mostly a miss. The public areas on the ship were few and always crowded, and the "High street" with the shops and pubs crammed into the middle forced crowds of people to squeeze single file down the middle. The Windjammer cafe was usually so crowded that finding a seat was next to impossible and to make that worse there is virtually no outdoor seating. Service was not as good as I think it should of been but that could be corrected by increasing staffing levels. The price of extra things on the ship was ridiculous, for the price of one drink aboard you could buy a whole bottle ashore, and what they charge for internet is a crime. The ports and shore excursions offered are very good, be prepared for long lines in St. Petersburg, security is very tight, but worth the wait. I will not sail with Royal Caribbean again unless they stop trying to be the cheapest cruise line and restore the service and reasonable prices that they once had. Read Less

We chose this cruise because my dad who has been on many cruises wanted a holiday after his wife died. We were looking forward to visiting ports in the Baltic. The good points: the ship was clean, the poor staff who work long hours away from their families were amazing, our stateroom with balcony was good, plenty of space, good lighting and plenty of mirrors! The food was good considering how many people they have to feed. The bad points: there are not enough public seating areas especially if the weather is bad as people cannot use the upper deck. I went to the origami class which was held in the Schooner Bar but could not get a seat. There are a lot of quizzes or Bingo or the Casino or talks on things like How to get rid of puffy eyes or how to get rid of stomach fat! I don't like quizzes, I think having to pay nearly 30 dollars for a game of Bingo is expensive as is 60 dollars for a cup cake demonstration or 89 dollars to be shown round the kitchen and visit other areas on the boat. If you go to the beauty consultations there is a hard sell afterwards to pay for treatments. Maybe if you go on lots of cruises you get more for your money like drinks packages and free internet. We didn't so the cheapest wine at the table was 35 dollars which tasted like vinegar, we had to buy ones which cost over 45 dollars. The internet was 13.99 dollars per day each and only worked in certain areas of the ship. The entertainment was poor, the comedian on our last night died on his feet. The ice show was good as was a juggling comedian and an act called Graffiti. There were films on the pool deck but we had bad weather. The shopping promenade was so busy most of the time that you felt like you were in a busy shopping centre with nowhere to sit. My poor dad struggled to walk through there. We visited lovely places but be warned if you visit Russia there are strict visa controls. The queues to get off the ship snaked all up the stairs ad for some it took over 2 hours to get off. Don't book an all day trip or an afternoon trip plus the ballet because you are likely to be late getting back and not have time to change and get the next coach. Thankfully we did not book with the cruise tours we used ToursbyLocals, best money spent! If you are going to Bruges it is easier and quicker and cheaper to get a taxi if there are 4 of you than struggling with buses and trains. There were lots of people on he ship who love cruising and love this ship but it is not for us. I will choose to spend £4,500 for 2 of us differently. Read Less

This was our second cruise on this same ship not picked by choice but for for suitable date fitting within our working pattern. We had a wonderfull 1st cruise so we chose RC again, but wre left disapponting this time round.. Our cabin although clean and comfortable was kept clean by our excellent room attendent, but we were led to believe although we booked an interior room, because this room was very last at the back of the ship it had a small window, the RC next cruise operative either misrepresented by mistake or not... so this was not the best start to our cruise. The service staff are excellent, very friendly even when dealing with abnoxious passengers., day time activities are varied enough for most tastes, outdoor films should be shown indoors during poor weather conditions. Four Specialist dinning available at a price, which does not offer good value for money hence why they are mostly empty, each passenger should be entitled to a free meal which may encourage more diners. The cruise entertainers are very good which offers some to most tastes, but the headline acts were more poor with the exception of Grafitti Classical who were excellent. The times of the entertaiment should be slightly earlier to fit in with dinning times and other entainment povided by the cruise musicans. RC Shore excursions are expensive and offer poor value for money, we decided on this occassion when visiting ST Petersberg to go with RC and got a very por experience when requesting a refund the excursion team were less than helpful. Private tours offer a better value and experience, on most ports you can do your own research . I would never recommend an RC excursions, be wary of using shuttle buses which are pricey, check the internet often towns are walkble, share a taxi, tams and buses usually are just outside the port and are inexpensive. Food at the main dinning menus have limited choices, the windjammer the self service has an excellent option choices but be prepared to hunt for vacant tables. The drink package although expensive may offer better value than buying separately, as RC drinks are expensive and a 18% service charge applied each time even for bottled water. Read Less

I booked 2 rooms one for us and another couple friend. This was their 1st time on a cruise so they loved it however it was our 5th but 1st time with Royal C. I found ship very small compare to others and very crowded on a sea day. Always struggling to find space to sit near the bar area when there is nothing else going on. Also hard work finding seats up in the Windjammer at anytime. Food in the dinning hall was very poor quality and tasteless though the head person who was looking after our table was trying his best but the chef's compare to WindJammers were not good with our requests and 3 of us were vegetarians. Finally we decided to just eat in Windjammer. Also they closed at 9pm which was too early as lots of people use to get there after the 1 show and people who want to see the 2 show were also trying to eat there as it would close before the 2nd show finished. Some waiters were friendly and others not, as they struggled with speaking English. Our room was on the 9th floor 9660 which was right opposite the stairs for service and so bringing luggage or taking luggage or any other time we use to hear lots of noises at odd hours. Entertainment was good but then other cruise liners were also good. We had all inclusive drinks package so that was good but even then from 4th day they did not have mint or sometimes lemon or certain beers and asked us to go to another bar which kept our choice. Oh and on the 10th day we found out from another passenger that we could order special request food at Windjammer which was really nice but this should have been told by the dinning hall people from the 1st day when they knew 3 out of 4 in our party were vegetarian. Immigration for St Petersburg was very long and took forever. We left our ship at 11.30 since we were queuing from 8.30am !! But it was worth it and our guide was very good English speaking and recovered the lost time and finished late. I would go on this cruise again only if there is a very good deal otherwise if I had to pay the same money then I would go on other cruise liner. Read Less

This itinerary took us to places we'd never been to, but couldn't figure out what to do there for an entire week (except for St Petersburg), so it was great in that regard. It seemed as though we were rushed through some of the ports (i.e. arrived at 10 or 11 am and had to leave by 2 or 3 pm) so more time in each port would have been awesome. I'd love to see a cruise with more overnight options in each port so that people could be more leisurely in their wanderings. That would be an incredible itinerary! The process of disembarking for St Petersburg was an all-out nightmare. We were not allowed to use the elevators to go down to deck 2 but were then forced to wait on the stairs for 45 minutes (which is extremely dangerous), then they decided to let people use the elevators which then meant people were cutting the line. We lined up at 7:55 am to get off the ship and didn't actually get to the gangplank until 9:45 am and we were in the FIRST group! Customs took another hour which made us late for our tour and people in our group were FURIOUS with us but there was nothing we could do. Between the staff allowing people to cut the line, forcing us to wait on stairs and the slowness of the Russian Customs agents, there was no way to get through any faster. Royal handled this very badly and we have already provided them LOTS of feedback on this. Overall, service in general, and across the board, was a lot slower than in the past. Also in the main dining room, the was less variety of options on the dinner menu, and the quality of the desserts (admittedly, not my favorite course) was not as high as in the past. It could have been the market though. I still think that dinner at 8:30 pm is too late - 8:00 pm would have been better (even the Europeans with us agreed) and it should never take 2.5 hours for dinner. We seemed to be constantly waiting on the staff which I attribute to less staff overall and the combining of some roles; i.e. the assistant waiter and the bar waiter. Our waiter was hustling to make up for the fact that our assistant waiter was somewhat inept and slow, which is unfair. No one should have to do two jobs all the time. Read Less

I was part of a group of 30 Geocachers on the cruise. We had an awesome time! The countries visited were great! The ship itself was very clean with friendly. Food and staff were excellent. Entertainment was top notch. The Ice Show was an added bonus! The Atrium Promenade View Stateroom didn't feel like an inside cabin. Loved our Cruise Director! The meditation class was a great addition. I only have a few complaints: Being a colder weather cruise most people were inside. The games should have been held in the Star Lounge rather than the Schooner. There wasn't enough space to enjoy them. Some people sat there all day taking up space and didn't participate. The TV show selection was terrible! If you didn't participate in a RCCL tour you didn't have priority debarkation in each port. On many occasions our privately booked tours weren't allowed access to the wharf area. Read Less

Enjoyed the cruise and all the ports. Our Cruise Director Cuddy was fun and entertaining. We enjoyed the excursions and the ship's staff. The dining room service was excellent and the food was good. We didn't use any of the athletic or spa facilities so I can't comment on those. We did go to the evening shows which were entertaining. We enjoyed Julian Bray's talks on things to see and do at the different ports, as well as, his other historic talks. Our only complaint would be that the ship is looking very dated and worn. While riding the elevators you could look down and see layers of dust everywhere. The furniture in the common areas and in our stateroom were vert stained. The internet was expensive and overall very slow. Sometimes we had trouble connecting. Television (if you have time for it) was horrible. For 12 days they offered the same Big Bang Theory show every day. This goes for all of the TV shows except for BBC news. We dressed light (t-shirts) and found its to be too warm in the common areas as well as our room. Maintenance was prompt to come to our room and replaced a part, but it still was not cool. Read Less

This cruise was booked as a large family holiday, there were 16 of us in total with ages raging from 20 months to 78 years old. There's plenty for the kiddies to do and at the same time, the adults can just relax. The entertainment this year was ok, not as good as when we were on the Navigator last year but still ok. I felt as though we spent a long time on the ship this time, the stops in Spain & Portugal weren't really long enough. Our stateroom was a nice size, perfect for the 2 of us and we had a window to see out onto the Promenade. The main dining room was just amazing food and service wise, everything was presented well and you didn't need to ask for anything as the waiters were always one step ahead. I would definitely travel on the Navigator of the Seas again, she's a beautiful ship with plenty to do on board for everyone. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we didn't know quite what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised with the overall experience and would definitely go on a cruise again. Embarkation and disembarkation went without a hitch. On disembarkation we decided to take our own luggage off, and left the ship at 6.30am. There was no queues and no searching for baggage. The cabin was comfortable, clean and plenty of storage. We had a balcony, which was great, our stewardess, Cathyann was wonderful. Sabrina restaurant was great but because our table was booked for 8.30pm each night, we preferred to eat earlier in Windjammer, the self service restaurant (food was fabulous!) so we could catch a show in the theater. For smokers there is plenty of smoking areas and was permitted in the casino and Connoisseur Club. We didn't go on the excursions as we preferred to explore ourselves. In Lisbon we stumbled upon the military museum, which had fantastic exhibits and the building inside was fantastic! Many thanks and well done to ALL the staff on 'The Navigator of the Seas', you should all be extremely proud of your efforts. We have made some wonderful memories which we can cherish for many years to come. We can't wait to 'set sail' again! Read Less

I usually feel the product delivered by RCI to be consistent and usually above average.I found one member of staff on this ship who actually smiled and engaged with me. Most members of staff, especially the bar staff, seemed miserable and lacking in any desire to serve. Usually I look forward to dinner in the main dining room but our waitress was so grumpy I felt like I was an inconvenience to her. I appreciate this ship is one of the older vessels and that it does not make financial sense to invest money in it now but there were obvious signs (literally the metropolis theatre sign was missing two letters) that this ship needed some attention. Bad smells, poor air conditioning in our room, wardrobe door hanging off. I am sure you are aware that some of the older ships do not get the investment that the newer ones do and I also see that that is reflected in the price but it felt at times that the basics were missing. I had such a wonderful time on the independence last october and that is also one of the older vessels so I know that it can be achieved. The good time I had on that ship was largely down to the wonderful staff we had ( CD Jamie fentiman and AM katy McCullagh were exceptional) I felt the CD on the navigator cuddy cuddleson and his activities manager mark? were not up to the standard I have experienced before such as the aforementioned jamie fentiman and also joff eaton who is always exceptional. I also had a CD called Mercedes a few years ago and she was wonderful as well. I really could go on and on about all the things on the Navigator that I feel are substandard but I really do not have the time, I love RCI and will continue to cruise with them but I feel I will avoid the older ships as I don't think the effort is put in there.
