Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Norwegian Star

This isn't your ordinary kick back by the pool in the sunshine and be pampered cruise itinerary. It goes to ANTARCTICA! For many on the ship who are frequent travelers, this was the final destination, the SEVENTH continent to visit. The destination is unique. The itinerary is grueling: it crosses The Drake Passage- where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans converge. Some days, it's a "lake". ...

Captain Skips Ports! 'nuf said!

Review for a South America Cruise on Seven Seas Voyager

This captain skips ports. What else can be said about a cruise billed as a voyage to Antarctica and the Falklands Islands but skips the Falklands and cuts out a day in Antarctica. I'm sure most people lined up to pay $$$ to see eight days in a row of the South Atlantic. No? Probably not. I hear there's a line forming onboard to join a class action lawsuit organized by some of the passengers. Rude ...

Such a Disappointment

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Seven Seas Voyager

My 2nd ever cruise and first on a so-called Prestige Line ship. Voyager as a ship was tired and clearly in need of refurbishment. TV swung from side to side even on a moderate swell giving sleepless nights. Balcony door wouldn't lock. The so-called exclusive toiliteries (shampoo and soap) were of a quality found in cheap motels forcing us to buy from the Spa Shop. The staff servicing the ...

Disappointing and we won't be sailing with Celebrity for a while.

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Celebrity Infinity

First off, we're experienced cruisers. This was #31 across all brands but mainly with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. It was also our third Celebrity cruise in the last 6 months. This cruise gets 2 stars. One for the itinerary which was outstanding (Antarctica) and was the reason we took the cruise. The second star is for the crew. Even though they appeared to be significantly understaffed and ...

Not what we'd hoped for

Review for a South America Cruise on Oosterdam

First Holland America Cruise. Chosen because it was the only affordable (?) cruise that went to Falklands, Antarctica and into the Chilean fjords and not around them (like Princess) or only to the Antarctic Peninsula and back to Buenos Aires (like Celebrity). We arrived the day after most people had checked in. Embarkation was the usual mess and compounded due to the World Cup madness created ...

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Scenic Eclipse

For our 70th birthdays we decided to take a cruise to the Antarctic. Scenic was blazing a trail with its so-called super-luxury Scenic Eclipse so we thought we’d try them. We’ve previously sailed on Regent Seven Seas, Seabourn and Silver Seas so we understand what luxury is and this wasn’t. Firstly the ship is all show with little substance. Our suite was dark and with insufficient closet ...

Incompetent communication led to much disappointment

Unbelievably poor communication from start to finish. Even our travel agent got so terribly frustrated with either poor or wrong information. This was a discovery cruise to Antartica including the Falkland Islands and South Georgia Island. No maps were provided to let us know where we were during the cruise; the TV info page map was illegible. Maps were provided at the end of the cruise ...

Celebrity knew there were problems with the ship.

We wanted to go to see penguins and visit Antarctic. We were informed by Celebrity 7 days before departure that the ship was having propulsion issues, but we were not allowed to cancel the cruise. We ended up missing 2 and 1/2 ports. There were only four ports of call. We did go to Antarctic, which was great, but we missed seeing any Rookeries for the penguins. This was very disappointing. ...

Shame on you Celebrity

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Celebrity Infinity

It is mind blowing that a cruise line could allow a ship with serious propulsion problems to head down to Antarctica. And greed can be the only motive. Crew and staff and food were excellent but that misses the point. The fact that two ports of call were missed and one stop curtailed tells its own story. And it was also interesting to hear the cruise director and presenter Mickey Live begging us ...

I have read the other reviews on this cruise and would agree that most of the amenities and customer service on board were quite good. Food, accommodation, entertainment, destination information from MickeyLive etc. all very acceptable. The problem is that it is not a cruise one buys just to get away and relax and be entertained. This cruise is destination specific and contains locations that ...
