We chose this cruise as it departed Southampton avoiding the hassle of a UK airport. Some things were good, cabin size and cleanliness. Some things were bad, the buffet was awful the food in general was pretty poor (think works canteen). The public areas were reasonably well maintained but the corridors and balconies were tatty. The ship had the feeling of a worn country house hotel. We had a good ...

Despite paying the Cunard Fare and having second sitting dining confirmed, we were forced into open dining. Maitre’d was unable to assist and seemed very stressed. Overheard many comments of a similar nature. There are not enough staff on board to provide proper service. The staff who are on board are run off their feet and look miserable. Waits of 30 minutes in the Commodore Club. Queues ...

We choose this cruise as a treat for my 50th birthday and choose to book for 14 nights,we booked a spacious deluxe inside room on a saver fare, two weeks before we sailed we were told that we had been ‘upgraded’ to an outside smaller footage room, when we looked at the room online not only was it smaller but had a tender boat completely blocking the window, after almost an hour on the phone we were ...

I went on this ship with my grandmother as she loves cruising. First impressions were good. The cabin was nice and the food was good. I enjoyed the stops at Barcelona and Gibraltar. Time on the ship however was where it slipped. There was barely any activities or anything to do on the ship. The entertainment wasn't worth watching. This made days at sea unbearable. We spent most of the ...

We have cruised with P & O, Princess, Royal Caribbean, Fred Olson and Thomson and this was our 8th cruise and as Cunard are regarded as the number one in the cruise ship ratings we were looking forward to our 5 night New Years Cruise to Bruge, Amsterdam and Cherbourg. We had just checked into our cabin when a tannoy announcement from the Commodore of the ship informed us we wouldn't be visiting ...

Boring and expensive

Wanted to travel from London/Southampton to Barcelona and visit Gibraltar and Mallorca. Everything on this cruise was boring and well over priced. Excursions in Gibraltar and Mallorca were a waste of time and money - drove around the 'rock' in Gibraltar on a Sunday (everything was closed) and were dropped for 2 hours in a tourist trap market in Mallorca. Meals in the restaurant were ...

QUEEN MARY 2 - SURPRISINGLY POOR

Review for a France Cruise on Queen Mary 2 (QM2)

Although only a mini cruise - 4 nights - we assumed it would be a fair reflection of a longer cruise. So given our experiences that longer cruise will never happen, Boarding was easy and our balcony cabin was very good. However the following list illustrates where we felt let down compared to the (many) other cruise lines we have sailed with: - The ship's decore is very conservative - lacking in ...

Having only cruised before on very small ships (e.g. Wind Star, Seabourn) we decided to test the waters of a large ship by taking a short cruise up and down the English Channel. We chose the Cunard Queen Mary 2 as it was being billed as the most luxurious ship on the seas, the height of luxury and elegance, make-you-feel-special atmosphere etc. What a disappointment it proved to be - on several ...
