We had the Spa Balcony and as when we took a shower the whole bathroom floor flooded. The dining sitting arrangement was bad. They had us seated back where the help was going in and out. They should never put a table bake in a corner away from all diners. The waiter took 15 minutes to come to our table just get water. We had to ask for water for the table. We were always the last to leave. It took the 2 hours or more to complete our Dinner. This is unacceptable. Door were not open when arrive for dinner. We had 15 minutes wait. All the food was dreadful except for your assigned dinner arrangement. If you didn't eat dinner or at the hamburger cart by the pool you be out of a meal. The breakfast buffet always had raw bacon. I did eat at the WOK and got sick. After the cruise my Grandaughter said she eaten there and go sick also. I have been on Carnival in pass years (before 2008) and have never had a bad experience. I became a Gold member of Carnival during this time. We use to only do New Ship each year. I just started cruising again and this was the first time on Carnival since 2008 and it was BAD. When we went get snack after 9:00pm we all ordered a Ruben sandwich and ask for extra cheese and they stated that they couldn't"t give us any Swiss cheese but American cheese. Everyone knows a Ruben sandwich only takes Swiss cheese. The roast beef was so tough like rubber we couldn't it. We laugh and through tin the trash. The pizza was like cardboard. The pool was always filled with kids. No pool for only adults. I don't know what happen to this Carnival cruise line but they're not how I remember. I will never cruise with Carnival unless I get a real good deal on Newer Ships. Read Less

I sailed with a group of ladies. The dining seated was constantly messed up to keep us together. I realize we had a large group, but what happened to assigned seating. Breakfast in the Imagination Room, we were always told that we had to wait for the rest of the group to show up. We would then look around and find other members of our group already seated. When we asked to be seated close to them, we were told they couldn't do that. The food wasn't like I remembered it was either. No special dishes like duck or escargot, many American dishes like mac and cheese and fried chicken for a main dish. Two elevators were down and being worked on. While we were at Freeport, there were maintenance workers everywhere I looked working on the ship. The ship rocked back and forth the entire trip. I am not sure if it was the Captain sailing to fast or the age of the ship not have stabilizers to avoid to rocking Many people said that they weren't going to sail again. Our window leaked water into the room on the last night. I called maintenance. They didn't send anyone to look at it. I really think that Carnival needs to retire the Elation. Read Less

We are avid cruisers. Platinum Carnival, Princess, and RCL. This ship by far is the poorest designed ship this cruiser has ever experienced. We sailed on her when she first started in Miami and decided to give her another chance now that she has been in the system a while. First Matt, the cruise director is outstanding! Does what he can with what he has. Embarkation, outstanding, best ever seen. Room steward, probably the worst. Arrived at stateroom, no refrigerator, no life jackets, called pursers desk, purser argued with my wife about refrigerator being there “you just need to look in cabinet”. Reconfirmed life jackets missing, looked under bed for life jackets where they should be located now and confirmed that they were missing. Room steward met us in hallway and said refrigerator is on the way and life jackets are under the bed. I assured him that they were not. He asked if we wanted morning or evening service, I said both. He repeated morning OR evening service. My wife said evening is fine, New change in policy? I confirmed that it was not. Atrium music cancelled first night, no explanation. Atrium floor design bad for dancing, major thoroughfare for bartenders, photographers, and fellow cruisers. Also large support beam in middle of floor. Shows, main theater very poor design. Large beams block view of anyone lucky enough to get a seat. Seats on back row do not provide height to see over seats in front. Dancers were good, singing.... voices did not compliment each other. Comedy show, too small a venue, no seating 3 out of 4 shows arriving 20 minutes prior. Dancing, two floors suitable for dancing, Havana Bar and Ocean Plaza. Limelight lounge a impromptu floor, small and inadequate. Havana bar, small, good for Salsa, Rumba, and cha cha if no one else is dancing, band good. Ocean plaza, farmer band played polka after polka, only one beat. Voices did not compliment each other. Other band was good sometimes accompanied by three piece horns. Wednesday night singers didn’t show due to illness. Thursday night singers didn’t show for country but did show up later for Motown. No scale in fitness center. Was told that it’s use was only available during spa treatments. Food was adequate during cruise but had dropped in quality since last on vista. Carnival Magic and Dream are much better ships! This ship is old and needs to be updated. Cabin on the Riviera Deck was dirty and dusty. We found a pair of shoes in the closet from a previous cruiser. Empty plastic shopping bags in drawers. Beds were very uncomfortable and felt like air mattresses. There were lights in the room that were out and not replaced. The TV is tiny and everything looked green. The decor is old and gaudy. The food was mediocre and not served hot. We retuned several meals because they were cold. The coffee bar had only 1 person working and there would be lines with 8 to 10 people waiting for their fancy coffee. Lots of children running around the ship and occupying most pool areas. The spa had mold on the ceilings and were not quiet and relaxing. This was our first and last Carnival Cruise. We have always cruised with Princess and will be going back to Princess from now on. This was our first cruise. I was afraid I would get seasick so we chose the 3 day cruise to the Bahamas with Liberty. I did not get seasick but I hated the cruise. The balcony room was fine but needs to be updated, carpeting is bad and shower kept overflowing because the drain was slow. Left notes in the cabin but nothing was done. Food at the buffet terrible, even Guy's burgers that everyone online said was terrific. Just a greasy mess! Food in dining room was better but still not as good as the restaurants I usually go to. Very disappointed. I absolutely hated Nassau. So dirty looking and traffic was very bad. The shops were dirty and junky merchandise. We went to Atlantis and what I saw on TV was not what was really there. It may have been terrific when it opened up but it is in need of painting and updating. We went to the aquarium and was talked into paying 45 pp for a ticket to see a world famous aquarium. It was hardly anything to talk about. I am originally from Chicago and our aquarium was top of the line compared to this small aquarium. I felt sad for the fish! The one thing I hated the most was all the lines, waiting to get on,waiting to get off the ship and lines everywhere on the ship. The small pools and hot tubes always filled and looking pretty worn. The windows have NEVER been washed so even in the dining areas looking out is the pits. The other cruise ships were washing all windows but the Liberty only washed the top of the lobby and that must be years of grime on all the other windows in the ship, adding to the need to refurbish this mess of a ship. No more cruising for me. They say the longer cruises and bigger ships are even worse with the lines and for me this is not a vacation. I needed a vacation after this cruise! They need to stay in port one day in-between cruises and clean everything. Not enough time to get this ship in shape and it needs it. Carnival only cares about money and not the people using this ship. Read Less

We went to get away and relax. The boarding process did not start until almost noon. We were on deck 7. You can tell the boat is not being maintained, it's rusting and dirty. The crew is lazy and they do as little as they can possibly get away with. Over all the quality of the food was the worst I've experienced on any ship. Our cabin was not cleaned while we were out and we had to ask for clean towels and bath soap. The fridge did not work and toilet was hard to flush. There was a odor in the hall outside our room that was nauseating. The ports have not fully recovered from the hurricane of 2017, only about half of the shops have reopened for business. Carnival seems to be having problems with these ships, Maybe it's time to think about retiring some of the older ships. Read Less

Chose this cruise for the itinerary only. Ship was only superficially clean, poor maintenance overall. We had a balcony cabin and could see rust on the davit that held an emergency boat , worried that it would not hold weight of passengers if an emergency. 1 woman collapsed during safety drill, crew stood frozen and were unsure what to do- passengers assisted her, took approx. 15 minutes for medical to assist her. Appeared to have shortage of staff, especially in dining room, improper place settings at tables, only 2 nights with table cloths. Wait time between courses were unreasonable, dirty dishes sat for long periods because staff was so short, though I didn't blame staff, they did their very best. No coffee available on the lido deck in every area that it was supposed too, broken equipment, cracked vinyl on some chairs on the lido deck buffet area. Lost lights in our room at least 3 days in a row for periods of time, 1 time my husband was in shower in the dark... Neighbors had no a/c for 3 days.... Limited entertainment, not a lot to do during the day for activities. Same old, same old... Feel insulted that Carinval appear to care so little for it's ships and passengers... Read Less

I am an experienced cruiser. I have taken RCCL, Norwegian, and Princess. I am Gold with Carnival. This would be my 6th Cruise with Carnival. We are a group of 30-celebrating a rare feat these days-my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We were all excited to be boarding the brand new Horizon. We did have hesitation due in part to the negative reviews we have read but we all went with an open mind and a discerning mind. I truly am disappointed in Carnival for the ship's layout, the lack of attention to the customer's needs, the poor design of the ship, and the relatively high cost to sail a very short and less detailed itinerary. Yes, I understand that I chose this ship and it only affirms my belief that I was going to have the "vacation of a lifetime" as it is so proudly promised and advertised by the Carnival Corporation. Before I get into specifics, let me just reiterate why Carnival should be ashamed of themselves. A less than appetizing Lido Buffet, very small and not practical pools, a very small Serenity area with no pool, lack of security presence, lack of safety precautions, no attention to the size of a lounge or showroom for a ship holding more than 5,000 passengers and a debarkation system which was hard to comprehend. Now I will go into more detail-listing the pro's of the ship first because there were positives. PROS- -The embark was quite possibly the best I have ever experienced on a cruise. We arrived to the port short of 1230 pm with a 130 embark and were on ship at 1pm-less than 30 minute process. Congrats to that staff. -My balcony cabin on the 10th deck was both roomy, clean, and with enough storage space to fit us comfortably. -The Dining Service in Reflections was outstanding. We were a group of nearly 30 people-children, seniors , and adults. We ordered multiple entrees and appetizers every evening and never felt a wait for any item. Jose and Head Waiter Roger made our vacation bearable. -The Specialty Restaurants-Italian and Steakhouse were worth the extra cost. We also did the Chefs Table and found that experience completely awesome I am disappointed in that Carnival in my opinion, fails to design a ship that takes into consideration the paying customer's needs. For example- lack of restrooms close by to the dining venues, the casino venue and lounge venue. Restrooms that were consistently dirty and without soap or paper towel. Restrooms that did not include a baby changing station. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I am disappointed in that Carnival would short-staff a brand new ship-charging vacationers thousands of hard earned dollars to wait in line for overpriced fried seafood (Seafood Shack), overpriced Coffee, overpriced Pictures that were being pushed every evening and with every jam packed walk down an "open " corridor. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I am disappointed in that Carnival would not best protect its paying customers with a both responsive and visible security force. This ship was jammed with unruly teenage mobs (both girls and boys) who could be seen defecating in the hallways and pools. They were also free to roam the decks at any time of the day or night holding a booming stereo and smoking weed freely in front of other family's. This made for both an unpleasant and unsafe cruising experience. There was no quiet time or lock down time for these passengers either. They would be up and about or causing havoc in their cabins well into the early morning hours disturbing all around them. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I am disappointed in that Carnival would overcharge paying customers for simplicity's previously found. For example- 15.00 to open a bottle of wine that you are already over - charging 25% to purchase on board. Advertising a final bingo prize of 5000 and ultimately paying out just 615.00 that was split multiple ways? Room service items for 5.00 a pop? Shame on Carnival. Shame. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I do realize that there is no control over another passenger's behavior or demeanor while on board but whatever happened to controlling yourself or showing respect to others? Cursing customers, threatening other cruisers or employees with their words or their demeanor. I felt like I was amongst wild tameless animals. I could never relax at the lounge for it was never comfortable -jam packed and no open seating. I did arrive nearly 15-20 minutes prior to a given showtime. I never spent time in a hot tub as they were always filled with kids or packed to the rim with fellow adults. We never went to the pools as they were too small to accomodate the packed ship. These are all design flaws. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. Read Less

This is our 5th cruise and 2nd time cruising with carnival. Our first cruise was with carnival and we had an amazing time back then. However, this time we were very very disappointed.I am going to be direct and concise so I will make a list. 1. Back of the ship was rusting and overall the ship was poorly maintained. 2. The food is my biggest problem. 8 different types of dishes were served at dinner, lunch and of those 8 were meat! No taste, low quality food for guests that paid $400+ a trip which eating makes a big part of it. The burger place was meh. Burgers had no taste, fries were badly seasoned. The Peruvian guys working in were great though and would go an extra step to make us happy. 3. The Alcohol and Beverage package. Most cruises have open bar beverage packages or unlimited drinks. Carnival imposes a 5 min wait per drink and 15 maximum. How greedy can they be? Plus most alcohols were not grade. Beer was overpriced compared to Royal and Norweigan, drinks consisted of a single shot and mostly ice, ice and more ice. If you tell a bartender to put more alcohol they give you a disconcerting look and tell you no that's not allow. 4. The cards, the greatly annoying cruise cards! I paid for my father's drink beverage so the old man can drinks few water down mojitos. By the end of the night he still had 11 drinks left in his package. Me and my wife used ours so every time I tried to use my dad's cards, which I paid for and we have the same last name, they would treat me in such a manner and deny me drinks. This one bartender took the card checked the photo, slammed in front of my seat and ignored me while he went to another customer. Extremely rude! I have never been in a cruise that has such poor quality in both itinerary and service. The food was disgusting, the drinks were poorly made, the service was cold and rude at the bar areas and overall every chance they get Carnival tries to scam you in either extra chargers to your card or some weird excuse to make you pay. DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Read Less

I don't have the opportunity to cruise on the newer ships because the cruise line uses the same ships in June to this destination. I take my parents with me and they deserve to cruise on the newer ships. Come on Carnival make that change for my parents and all the other cruisers who deserve to experience the newer ship. Atlanta Ga 2018 carnival did an excellent job with embarkation and debarkation. We arrived at 3p to ship. The process was fast and easy. The staff was nice. They were smiling and very pleasant. We needed to wheelchairs and help with our luggage and they had them readily available. I liked Guy's hamburger station. The food was delicious The omelet station was good also. This was my wife and my 45th anniversary present to each other. We should have stayed home, went out to dinner, and saved 4 grand. If you are looking for a low budget frill cruise, an over crowded ship, school cafeteria food, and poor service then this cruise is for you. First the over crowded, dipping your toes in the pool or even finding a lounge chair, unless it’s raining, was impossible. In addition we arrived in Key West with three other cruise ships, and in Cozumel with 4 others. Shoulder to shoulder shopping, no seats to sit down to eat, and over-priced trinkets. The only things to do on the ship for the middle aged was to listen to music, no ‘60s or Country; drinking if you could get service; gamble if that’s your thing; and eating if you don’t mind what you put in your mouth. The dining room food tasted like school cafertia food. The only thing we found palatable in the food court was a hamburger and fries, for 5 days! Carnival also must go to great lengths to train their staff not to do anything special for their guests. My friend asked to taste a thimble full of the reminents of a mohito blender mix and was told that they would lose their job if caught giving anything away. Instead it was washed down the drain. Why aren’t soft drinks free, gotta be $$. Service was poor everywhere. Carnival seems to pride themselves on having over 50 nationalities on their staff. I wouldn’t care if I was served by a baboon if the food was good and service was friendly. This was my first and last Carnival cruise I have disembarked for the last time. Read Less

The Carnival organization should be recognized for its ability to take a brand new ship and reduce it to a floating tribute to poor food, bad service and mediocre entertainment. The food was cheap, overcooked and boring. The only possible exception was breakfast where Carnival staff had nothing to do with boxed cereal, yogurt and some fruits. Toast was dry and cold. Eggs were immersed in oil. Lunch and dinner offerings were either overcooked or smothering in sauces to deguise the lack of taste. The Main Dining Room wasn't much better. Some items such as the Maine lobster tails were inedible. Other offering were old and tired and have been around for years. A new ship should have a new menu. I am left with impression that the Carnival strategy was to make the Lido and Main Dining Room food so bad that it would force guests to eat at the Speciality Restaurants to get a decent meal I would lke somebody to explain to me: to whom Carnival pay VAT in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea? It appears to be another grab on their part. Never before on a cruise ship have I ever experienced such a high degree of rude and indifferent staff. There was very little willingness to offer assistance or answer the simplest of questions. Carnival needs to reimagine loyalty. There was a time when Carnival hosted a reception for past guests with the Captain and officers present. Now it is a bottle of water and drink voucher with conditions; the last of the cruise, after 5pm and not to exceed $9.00. Loyalty shouldn't come with strings attached. Carnival expects my loyalty unconditionally, it should work both ways. Bon voyage Carnival. Never again. Read Less

Worst cruise ever, If it were not for Guy's Burger Joint and the BBQ place we could have possibly starved to death. Oh and the soft serve ice cream machine. Went to the dining room on dress up night and was the only person there with a tie on. Waited 45 minutes for the lobster and couldn't eat it. Tasted like it was under cooked. Unless you a big breakfast eater stay away from the buffet. Can't figure out the dessert options. Most had no taste at all. As far as the alcohol goes they must thing its gold. Glass of wine and vodka on the rocks was around $18 with tip. We had a balcony room that was nice but the glass around the balcony was so dirty we had to stand up to see the water. Getting off the ship was a nightmare. They had two youngsters coordinating it and it seemed they had no idea what they were doing. We choose this cruise because of the itinerary -travel person recommendation. This was the worst cruise we have ever taken and we have been on many and other cruise lines. First and last time with carnival. The decor was overwhelming and heavy - not for a fun cruise. Rooms were large and good. Food not too good in fact they ran our of a lot of items. No marmalade jam. No english muffins - these were on the dining room menu. They weren't brought on board when cruise started from Sydney. Commercial bread - not made on the ship and the dinner rolls when microwaved for dinner came out as little bricks. Even when boarding and departing the process wass terrible., Who ever decided to leave all the luggage in the elevator areas need t review who this should be done. Perhaps they should go on other cruise lines to see how smooth this process can be for the passengers. Shore excursions was not easy - we had to find our own way to the buses and then had to wait for latecomers - so the trips we shorter than advertised. Other cruise lines have all the passengers waiting in a specific area, tagged then escorted to the waiting vehicles. Way to go!!!. Entertainment was geared for children - nothing for adults until; the 15th day of a 17th day cruise. My husband was bored out of his mind. Couldn't arrive in Honolulu fast enough. I can say a lot more - but I think the above is sufficient. Read Less

Chose this ship b cause RCL was chartered for the week. Very very disappointed in CCL. Check in and Boarding was OK but once you got on the ship it went down hill. The ocean view cabin was OK except one pays extra to see out the window. It was so dirty one could not. It did however let day light in. We were very glad got off this very dirty and unsanitary ship. Would not sail on it again even if it was free. Poor service and the ship screams of the crew attitude of "I don't care". It must be very poor leadership. Women in Coconut Grove in swim suits with no cover ups in swim suits 2 sizes too small. Men wth no shirts on. Waiters that don't know how to serve a table. Dirty overheads and cabin windows. Sent a message with photos to CEO of CCL as of yet weeks later never heard back. Pick a different ship or cruise line. This is a bad ship. Read Less

Embarkation was fast and easy and from there it went downhill. The Ocean was so rough that if was very difficult walking and we could not dock in Nassau for safety reasons. I realize that Carnival had no control over the weather and we just made the best of it. But as seniors taking our first cruise to celebrate our 50th anniversary we were not prepared for the deafening noise aboard this ship. The only place we would go to talk or read was to our cabin. The so called country singer performing in the atrium daily was awful. Everyone told us that we would love the food. The quality of food on the buffet was like eating at a Golden Coral. The dining room food was better but nothing was ever hot. The desserts were good. The staff for the most part were wonderful especially our cabin steward Pilan. They allowed smoking in several areas of the ship and unfortunately also held trivia games near those areas. Our group had to leave as the smell was overpowering. I heard many people complaining about this cruise saying things like "cruise from hell" and "never again". Disembarkation was smooth and quick. It was an experience for us, one not likely to be repeated. For the price we paid we could have gone to an all inclusive Mexican resort for 2 weeks and not had to worry about how much extra money we were adding to our sail and sign card everytime we had a speciality coffee or alcoholic drink. We won't be cruising again, especially on Carnival. Read Less

It was my 69 th birthday and I was looking for something that might be fun for 10 people. My sister is in a wheelchair as is one of my friends So we all booked it. Going by Cruise Critic guidelines for the review : Departure and Embarkation were fine. The ship was old and run down but the customer service and the staff were deplorable. Most of the food was in edible with the exception of Guys Burger joint. Burgers were good if the person serving them understood what you were ordering. Had limited hours. The Carnival web site boasts of Its steakhouse and other resturants avaliable for an up charge of $35. Guess what...no other resturants on the ship.So you are stuck in the so called dining room (NOT). Or the roomservice menu which is ridiculous. Unless you want to take a chance at one of the buffets where eveyone and their children are touching the food as were the flys and the smell of disinfectant permeated the room. They sell you the drink package and then you find out they have no Baileys, sometimes no fruit or garnish for your tropical drink. The juice is all powdered. If it is could outside you are linited to two bars. The one in the casino area is sooooo smoky you can not breath and the other was always full. My niece found an ampule of sodium nitrate left in the closet from the last guest, The TVs have a handfull of channels four of them that sell Carnival . Poor selections. Our Cabin had to be cleaned before we unpacked (clumps of hair on shower walls, stained carpet, pink splatters on walls and ceiling) Regular food was mediocre but we also had a Vegan with us and their idea of accommodation was to ask her each night which of the side dishes from the other meals she wanted. The featured vegetarian meal was the same Indian food all 7 nights. Some the lunch restaurants have options such as a taco salad or veggie burger but they are not printed anywhere and you might only know about it until day 5 when you hear someone else in line ask for it. The specialty restaurants such as BBQ, Mexican, Burgers, Indian, Asian, Pasta are only open for lunch. Our group spent over $1,000 in the spa and they were slow, rude and not helpful on at least 5 different visits. You could not even leave the spa without waiting for the one person working the desk to complete a 10 minute sales pitch for someone else since you had to get your room key back from her. They have a cart with signs that let you pick your own ingredients for a self body scrub. When you ask the spa attendant how you use this service (that we paid for) she went in back and brought out a chocolate mint scrub. When we asked about the sign that tells you to pick your own ingredients, she said they don't do that and she went in back again and brought a second scrub option. I was charged for someone elses drinks one evening in the lounge and customer service took it off only to add it back on a day later. Over 60% of the ships daytime activities are based on getting more money out of you. (spa seminars, jewelry events, sales, auctions, photos, casino, yoga classes, ...) The ship's layout blocks sections of the ship on several of the activity and dining decks so you have to change floors, walk to the other section of the ship and then go back to the floor where you wanted to go. I don't know if this is Carnival or just this one ship but we will choose a different cruise line next time. Read Less

I'm from Florida. The embarkation and disembarkation was lengthy and confused. The ship was not as clean as one would expect. The cabin linen looked used and poorly cared for. The staff was never pleasant and seem angry most of the time. The main dining room was a joke. The soup tasted like it came from a can. The lobster was grey and rubbery. The lava cake was passable. The food in the buffet was inedible most of the time. The servers portioned out small amounts of beef and turkey. The desserts were amateurish at best. Guy's Burgers and the Pig and Anchor were horrifically bad. People threw away most of the Pig and Anchor food - it was that bad. The entertainment, which used to be passable, was reduced to a single guy playing a guitar too loud. The shows were just as bad. Overall, the whole cruise reeked of a company that was cutting costs anywhere they could and the passengers could take the hindmost. There was this constant drum late in the night over the loudspeakers to spend more money. They even put a charge on my bill for things I did not do. Read Less

Have gone on many Carnival cruises to the point of now "gold" status. Always enjoyed with very few if any disappointments in the past, but this time. . . Wow! Before we even received our bags to our room the steward knocked at our cabin door to ask when is best time to clean our rooms, upon doing so he changed the subject to accuse me and my boyfriend of smoking in our room and was threatening to throw us off the boat in front of all other guests boarding! Mind you, my boyfriend does not smoke, what the steward smelt was smoking odor on my person from smoking prior and the wind blasted through room past me to the steward when my boyfriend opened the balcony door! When I explained this he did not change his tune or apologize. A few days later I requested scissors to cut tags on new clothes I had brought and again he embarrassed me in front of other guests claiming I'm trying to kill someone!!! In the past buffet food served each day was slightly different menu, usually similarly to that served in the dining rooms without the flair. This trip each day was identical. Same salads, same pasta, same meat, same old same old. The bar service of the wait staff was horrible. When anywhere in past they would pass by you announcing their presence in case you were absorbed in activity. This time if and when they ever came around they did so silently so you would miss them to place any request and forced to retrieve your own. New ship design is much better and more comfortable with more sheltered and wind shielded areas to sit in cushioned seats. They added a theater which is a plus, however they placed our cabin adjacent from the theater and next to the teen club. We are not young anymore (in our 60s) to easily tolerate all kids we heard running up and down the stairs; many, many kids all night long. Our cruise was scheduled to go to Aruba but the captain decided to divert due to a tropical storm that did dissipate to nothing. I understand he made a safety decision, although I feel he may have done so in haste. Instead we went to islands we had already been to in the past and no allowance was given for our disappointment. Ships' cruise director and entertainment staff comprised of the African ethnicity planned most entertainment geared for guests of the same persuasion. The dance club we were not even able to get in to let alone dance as it was packed with those dancing to hip hop. From the comedy club we saw three of the comedians. Only one actually made the audience laugh. Another totally bombed out nothing he said even made sense to the point his mutterings sounded more like he might be having a stroke We will not go on that cruise again. We are now thinking a different cruise line. Read Less

This was my second cruise I have been on, the sunshine was awesome I loved the people that worked on it they made everything fun,the food was amazing way better than my first cruise. I had the best time of my life on this cruise I swear I did not want to get off. Matter of fact my cousin and I are coming back on the sunshine in October with other family members who have not been on a cruise before so I hope and pray we have as much fun as we did when we went in may. I can not wait to get back on the sunshine. I loved the games they played with the music. The club on the boat was very very fun. The drinks were amazing the kiss on the lips is the best yet. I recommend the carnival sunshine to anyone so I hope it is the same when we get back on in October. : ) Read Less

This was a seven-day cruise roundtrip from Long Beach, California with visits to Puerto Villarta and Cabo San Lucas. Hubby and I are experienced cruisers (close to 50 cruises). Until this cruise, we thought that there could never be a bad cruise. We stand corrected! From beginning to the end, this was a subpar experience. Embarkation We arrived early so we could relax in the lounge and have a cup of coffee prior to embarkation. When Carnival first moved to the Long Beach from San Pedro, there was a separate check-in lounge inside the terminal for suite, minisuite and priority passengers. The lounge then resembled the airy lobby of an upscale hotel, furnished with comfortable and attractive sofas and chairs. There was coffee, juice, sodas, water, and a large variety of snacks. Now, the lounge is located outside the terminal, resembles a stuffy Quonset hut and is furnished with uncomfortable, straight backed chairs crowded into every available space. There is no coffee, water or snacks. When I inquired why, the attendant told me that they couldn’t solve the “ant” problem. We walked over to the Queen Mary, paid the $10 admission so we could have breakfast inside. Our other option was a food truck located by the parking garage. The Cabin Since this was a short cruise, we opted for an unobstructed view balcony on Deck Four. Usually, everything is spic and span. The balcony furniture had been wiped down, but was not quite clean. The glass was so smudged that it detracted from the balcony view. The last time I saw so much rust on a balcony was thirty years ago on a P&O cruise ship that was decommissioned after that cruise. It was day four or five when the workers washed down and cleaned the balcony thoroughly. The Food What food? Gone was the “eat at the buffet almost anytime.” It was more like “when is the buffet open?” That is unless we wanted pizza or a deli sandwich. Not something I wanted every day. When the small buffet was open, the variety was not there. Same food every day. The room service menu was another shock. The things that used to be free, like chicken wings and French fries now came with a surcharge. Sort of puts a bad taste in your mouth. Pun intended. The restaurant dining has always been our favorite until this cruise. The food and service has always been very, very good if not excellent. This cruise, not so much. On the whole, the hot food was just warm and slightly overcooked. On the first formal night, I chose the lobster tail and shrimp. Without asking if I wanted it, another lobster tail was put on my plate. Rather than have it go to waste, I asked for a container so I could put it and the remainder of my meal in the cabin refrigerator. For the first time on any cruise, including several other Carnival cruises we were told no; it was not allowed. It got worse later in the week when I was ill. Nothing contagious, but I didn’t feel like getting dressed for dinner. My husband went to the dining room to get something for me to eat. The maitre’d told him that it was not allowed even though I had done the exact thing when my husband had the flu on another Carnival cruise. The maitre’d then told my husband that he had to “call his supervisor” for permission. I finally got something to eat, but not without my husband becoming very insistent. One positive memory was the officer (the head of bar services from Florida). He absolutely loved his job and we could tell. He cared the passengers and was very cordial to us and polite to his employees. It was refreshing. Disembarkation This was the best part of the cruise. Unfortunately, after talking to some of my fellow passengers, it seems that our experience on this cruise is becoming more the norm on Carnival line ships in the corporation’s attempt steer passengers to its more costly lines: Princess, Costa, Seabourn, Holland America, Cunard an Read Less

i would advise against purchasing the soda package as u will not be given anything but canned warm soda. There are no soda fountains on the ship and they do not cool the cans in advance . It was awful to say the least. All the ships we have been on recently give you a tumbler with the package. I had to pay extra here for one and had i known this i could have brought one from home! The food in the diding room was not empressive either. All and all this ship need to be dry docked and refurbished . If you are a senior there is little to do on board, but drink, gamble and people watch. Never ever again and we are platinum cruisers with them .we only came on because of some friends were going and that was about the only thing good i can say about this cruise. My electric plug in the cabin even shorted out so i had no power for my pc or phone for a day! Read Less

As a Platinum Carnival Cruiser this was a terrible cruise. The ship was 5 hours late (phone call made to my home phone in Virginia). Chaos the first day. Our room had "no ice bucket, or other things". The dining was 3 stooges like. We spent 2 hours for 3 courses (appey, dinner, desert). Our room was only cleaned once per day. As Platimum cruisers we get extra parks...we had to go to guest servcies on day 3! We celebrated our annivarsary and the room steward wrote "Happy Birthday" on the mirror...REALLY? We (Wife and I) do not ask for much but at least service for the tips I provided. Food is getting "skimpy" and forget about that lobster tail on elegant night...that will cost you an extra $20.00. For being the "fun ship" we did not have fun. I am sure 2500 other passengers had the same opinion. We never received some of our perks and Nobody offered any apologies. Read Less

Board required standing in an incredibly long line that move at a snails pace. After getting on board, cabin was not ready for an hours and luggage did not arrive for 6 hours. The cabin was snug and the balcony was tiny. Sitting in a chair you had to turn sideways to not have the same legroom as on a typical airline coach seat. The steward was acceptable on making up the room etc; however, I had made a request on the first day that I have a fresh bucket of ice at 5:00pm each day. He got it right 2 out of 7 night, the other night I had to call room service for it. The Breakfast fare was just OK, Lunch was passible if you were OK with limited menu items. I thought Guy's Burgers would be good, but, burgers were cooked ahead of time and over done. For a chefs salad you to get creative. find a reasonable size plate from another service line, make up your salad of greens, vegies, seeds and dressing. carry it to the sandwich bar to get some roast turkey and bread since there were no rolls at the salad station. Tacos any one, OK if you didn't want beef or fish. Dinners, we had an 8:15 seating. We shared a table of six with two other couples which made for an enjoyable time which off set the not so great food. Appetizers were good, should have ordered 3 or 4 and skipped the main course. Fish was consistently over cooked, Beef and pork had the texture of mush, like it had been frozen, thawed and refrozen sever times. If you want medium rear beef, you had to order rear. Desserts where acceptable just not much variety. I will say service was excellent. The majority of the bartenders attitudes was like couldn't wait for the cruise to be over or their shift to end. Entertainment left much to be desired, not particularly professional, but they made up for it by increasing the volume. To get from the dining room to the main theater one had to traverse the casino which was so thick with smoke and smell of cigarettes that one could lose the not so good meal just consumed. The smell was not just in the casino but meandered down the corridors and into the nearby elevator lobbies The ports of call could have been passed up. We did get to visit Chitzen Itsa near Cozumel, however it was a lengthy time to get there which resulted in little time as the site. The guide was excellent and provided great deal of information about the site, the Incas and the Yucatan peninsula and the current culture, politics and economy. Now we get to debarkation, which was exercise in frustration. All persons had to be out of their cabin by 8:00am. There is insufficient seating in the entire ship to accommodate all passengers that it must now accommodate. So you get some foods and then spend 20 minutes looking around and waiting for a seat to become available. Don't get anything hot because it won't be by the time you find a seat. Coffee would be good except the machines kept running out. Silver wear and napkins, those basic items also had to be sought out. Our number was finally called, grab the luggage and get in another line for immigration, understaffed for the quantity of passengers and again moving at a glacial pace. In closing, never again carnival. Read Less
