We have been on two sea cruises and decided that if we took another we would try a river one. We wanted a two week cruise and of the ones that were available we liked the look of Emerald the most. Not having to constantly tip and casual dress were great attractions. The holiday lived up to all expectations and we didn't begrudge a single penny spent on it. The ship looked very up-to-date with lots of glass, turquoise and chrome. (Tip to the designers - don't have handrails in chrome. The cleaner will never be able to keep up with the fingermarks) Nowhere felt crowded. Even at dinner when all passengers were present the restaurant was comfortable. I opted for a galley tour and was pleased to see that it was all stainless steel and spotlessly clean. I would liked to have been a fly on the wall to see the galley in action. I'm sure I couldn't prepare meals to such a high standard in that space, The Dawn was a Tardis. We were on the sundeck sheltering from the wind behind the wheelhouse when it descended into the deck leaving only a couple of feet showing. We still can't work out the part of the ship it descended into! The cabin had storage everywhere. Our luggage weighed 36kg and we could have stored much more. The cases went into the cavern under the queen-sized bed. We thoroughly enjoyed all the excursions and the crew show which we thought would perhaps not be worth watching was hilarious. The holiday will be a very hard act to follow as others will have to offer the same facilities and deal as Emerald. Read Less

As we had never experienced a River Cruise we were very pleasantly surprised to find that we enjoyed the cruise immensely. The crew were all excellent, the ship was most comfortable and kept spotlessly clean. The design of the ship was super, very modern and they seemed to have thought of everything when planning the interiors. The food was delicious, dinners well balanced, not too heavy with 4 or more courses. Unfortunately the weather after Budupest turned cooler and wetter, but this was October and only to be expected. The guides onshore were all excellent and we enjoyed the walking tours very much. The cruise director was superb at her job, as were the other crew members. I agree with other reviewers that it is not ideal to be sometimes moored right alongside another boat, but River cruising is so popular that this is inevitable, there are many cruise boats on the Danube. All in all I would recommend a River Cruise with Emerald as a very relaxing and enjoyable way to see areas of Europe. Read Less

We wanted to do a river crise as we had heard so much about them . We have done a lot of ocean cruises but never a river one. Flew from Heathrow with BA one and a half hours had to collect luggage and take to bus. The transfer seemed a bit long winded, as we seemed to get to the Danube from the wrong end. We had to drive in very heavy traffic a long way past the ship and back so we were on the correct side of the road to get off.Check in very quick with not airport security as with ocean cruises. cabin as expected same as other ships, we chose the cheapest at the waterline. We only sleep and get changed there. We went with another cou[ple explored the ship. tea and coffee making machines on entrance tot he laounge always working except once when it was being worked on. The ship apart from our deck with only cabins next one up was reception and the main dining room. One deck above was the main lounge with a bar and lots of seating. The back park had a small self service at meal times and on nice days you can sit outside to eat. Above this was the top deck fine views and plenty of seating two mini golf courses and a deck quits. We only used it a couple of days due to the weather. Trips some trips included some you paid for. As far as we could see they all involved walking a bit. Viking coaches at each port to take you to the destinations. First night deal with food later after dinner we went for a walk over the chain bridge fantastic Budapest is a lovely city at night, large buildings a palaces all lit up. Next ay trip round Budapest time on our own when we got back on the ship we were greeted with a soft drink and canapes. Almost all trips get you back for lunch. Sometimes lunch is to make sure you get some. Estergom strudel making very good had as much to eat as we liked. Vienna nice walk around town and time to ourselves to browes the shops that evening we went to a musical recital the best i have ever been to fantastic would recomend. Vienna naxt day We went on our own to Schonbrunn Palace underground there, our director showed us how it worked went round the palace with translators tube back to the town. tube abck to ship cost 42 Euiros for the two of us. The ship wanted 59 each result. Krems went to monastry not bad back for lunch Afternoon cruised the Wachau valley it poured with rain and visibility was poor. Passau trip round not bacd Regensburg Easy walking tour walked back to ship for lunch Nuremberg. Went on the WW2 trip to nazi rally point and courtroom. Very good trip thoroughly enjoyed it Overnight and left for the airport at 7.45 the next morning a bit early. STAFF The best and most helpful of any staff I have come across on any ship or hotel. Absolutely faultless always spoke and could not do enough for you. FOOD very good breakfast in full in dining room or at the front of the ship for continental. Lunch three courses or buffet at the front of the ship. Dinner Three courses or buffet at the front. Not a large choice three items every night and three different ones for main. All the food was very good and plenty of it DRINKS free during lunch or dinner weather you had the meals or not no limit to the amount you can have during the set times, the rest you pay for. CABIN got what we paid for our steward mucked us out in the mornings and turned the beds down at night. SHIP almost new could not find a fault with it. ENTERTAINMENT in main lounge pianist every night music we all knew. There is a small dance floor buit most of the time he did not play music you could dance to. Pity. We had a humorous german lesson, german/Austrian music, and a presentation about Viking cruises. The choice of music was nice to listen to but a few of us wanted to dance. Was it good value? Yes Did we enjoy it? Yes Would we go again? Yes Read Less

A balance of excellent itinerary, cost and type of venue. Everything was as advertised. The docking location in Budapest was excellent, right next to the Chain Bridge on the Buda side of Budapest. It was quite scenic. Each included tour was conducted very professionally by knowledgeable tour professionals. Viking River buses provided transportation from the riverboat to the starting point of the cruise. Also there were two versions of each included tour. One for those that wanted to see and experience everything and one for those that wanted to take it a bit slower, i.e., for those that might have a walking disability, etc. Each stop on the itinerary was very interesting and had both cultural as well as culinary value. During the evenings while in transit, Viking provided local cultural entertainment, including dancers, singers, folk costumed performers for many of the locations/countries visited. Other evenings the Cruise Director and Staff provided an overview of the daily activities for the coming day as well as insight into language and local customs. Although this was our first Viking Riverboat Cruise, it certainly will not be our last. Read Less

Tour Code: NBU280916.2 We thought that this was going to be a luxury yet all inclusive experience. We have travelled extensively (India, Vietnam, Morocco, Italian Riviera, Italy, Sicily, Greece,Turkey etc.) in small groups of 12 to 25 or on our own with friends. We have also been on ships from 300 to 900. The physical accommodations of this trip were better or equal to what we are used to but the experience itself did not live up to the hype. All group experiences were crowded. It was often hard to find a seat in the lounge and people were often standing at the back of the room during group briefings. Ditto with the dining room. As well, there was not enough staff for the tasks they were assigned. They worked tirelessly but there was no way they could keep up. I did not expect to be faced with having to sit down at uncleared settings, standing in long line ups for food or the high level of noise in public areas that we experienced on this cruise. Little details i.e. the option for lattes at breakfast were not offered unless you ordered room service. A big deal was made over the fact that the coffee machine was there for people to use. I expect to be served on a luxury cruise. Portobello Restaurant We were invited to this on our last night, the night of the special food in the main dining room. People who had been with Scenic before told us to not bother going but we decided we wanted to try all the experiences offered. What a disappointment. At least ten of the invited guest did not show up so we were faced with this empty table beside us yet crowded because we moved to fit in the three people who did turn up for that table - who wants to sit at a basically empty and huge table staring at the unused settings. It was lovely being at the front of the boat and the view was appreciated. However the menu was disappointing when compared to the one downstairs. We asked to have a selection from that menu and were refused by the chef. The last night is also a time to spend with people you have met on the journey. We felt totally cut off and very disappointed with the meal. I have to emphasize that the staff was excellent and worked extremely hard. They are not a part of the complaint. Organization was a strange mix of excellent and poor. I feel that the poor was due to cost cutting practices. Tours from the boat were huge! The busses were filled to top capacity (even the five suicide seats at the back were generally filled) and there would only be one guide for 60-70ish people. Would I feel cheated if I was in one of those seats? Yes. Other trips we have been on provide a large bus for much smaller numbers - on purpose, so there is room to be comfortable. Tours were not fully explained i.e. We went to the Schoenbrunn Palace in Vienna. Our tour was over at 9:25 and the bus did not pick us up for 2 1/2 hours after that. We had been told there would be time to see the gardens but 2 1/2 hours vs 45 minutes for the tour? In such a case, on previous trips with other companies, there would have been a shuttle bus every half hour for those who wished it. In our stop in Vienna we were lumped together with another Scenic ship for our concert, got there after them and were faced with empty glasses everywhere for the greeting cocktail - like getting to a party after it is over. We were then rushed and forced to sit way in the back. It was impossible to see more than the heads of the dancers. So much for the intimate experience the brochure implied. On the extension in Prague the group (a full bus from the boat) was divided into two for our walking tour. This size was just so much better than the tours from the boat. I had been looking forward to using the e bikes. I have had three different models over the years so I do know the product. Our bikes were the old Scenic model. Since the bikes provided did not have adjustable handlebars they were not usable by someone short who wanted to be safe. With the seat in the lowest position the tip of the seat pointed up, a very uncomfortable position and the handle bars were more than awkwardly high, perhaps even unsafe. They also wobbled because of the fold connection. (In Vienna I also noticed just how much better the newer models on our sister ship were, BUT they did still have the same handle bar problem). It would have been nice if you had provided even a few models that were more adjustable. E bikes were one of the reasons we picked Scenic and for safety reasons, in a foreign country, I chose to put safety over pleasure. As to the excellent organization, the system for disembarkation was one of the best I have seen. We did not have a horrible time on this trip. We enjoyed much of it and were grateful for the one time laundry service, the helpful cabin and restaurant workers and our gorgeous views from our cabin balcony. The sites we visited were wonderful and the history we learned from the guides interesting. It is just that there were many things that disappointed us. Read Less

I don't write bad reviews very often. I thought long before writing this one since this was the first river cruise I had ever experienced. We were greeted by the Scenic Tours staff win Budapest aboard the Scenic Ruby and escorted into the lounge area for a cocktail on arrival. Victor was the nicest young man who was our waiter. After we finished our drink (which gave the staff time to deliver our luggage to our room), we were checked in and escorted there. We had chosen a specific room (panorama suite) at the rear of the ship because we knew it would allow more room for us (my husband and me) to move around. I had checked the photos online (Scenic website) to make sure we would be pleased. I was never so disappointed. The photos of the suites on the website are NOT them same as the Scenic Ruby. The first issue was that the windows were dirty and looked as though they had not been cleaned in weeks. (I called to ask if someone could clean them for us...after all we spent $$$$ for the view from that suite and could not see through the glass). No one ever cleaned the windows the entire trip. :( The second issue was that there was a Dyson fan in the floor trying to cool our hot room...the fan did no good. The room felt like an oven. The air conditioner was working as hard as it could to cool the room. Since the room was too hot to stay in, we got a glass of wine and retreated to the top deck. Nothing like trying to shower and dress for dinner in 80 degree room. :( Issue three was that here was yellow painter's tape on our walls which had been left after repairs had been made. There was a hole in the wall behind the television because a previous guest got eager trying to adjust it against the wall. Issue four was the food served on the boat. Several times we were served cold cuts on a buffet...yuck! I may have had better sandwiches while in the grade school cafeteria. One day we were on the top deck enjoying our one day of sailing day. My friend and I went to the bar/lounge to get a snack to take back to the top deck. After ordering, we were told that lunch would not be served for 10 more minutes and that we could not take the food to the top deck. 10 minutes later there were several people on the top deck eating lunch....go figure. Mark Silprovic (?) was the person who said we could not order lunch yet. Our best meals were off the boat. Issue five.....if you do not like smoking or have allergies to smoking...this is NOT the cruise ship for you. The entire front of the ship on the top deck was reserved for smokers. Nice chairs, tables and umbrellas for those guests. The rest of the guests were in the center of the top deck with reclining chairs, but no cocktail tables. The smoking area had cocktail service whereas the rest of us went to the bar to get our own drinks. Speaking of smoking....almost the entire Eastern European crew smoked. Crew smoking area was at the back of the top deck. Therefore, we were sandwiched between crew and guest smoking area....very offensive. We, therefore, did not visit the top deck during times we were stopped especially in the locks we passed through which were many. Issue six....I also used the spa...once. I scheduled a massage with Plamen. I know you think by now that I am super picky, but getting a massage by someone who has cigarette smoke on his hands is not exactly relaxing and optimal. :( I felt as though we were being held hostage by a group of 30 year olds who cared more about their cell phones than the guests they were employed to serve. JJ (cruise director) and his girlfriend often "made out" in the crew smoking area. I'm sorry, but that's not what I want to watch while on my cruise. :( Although it was discovered that a guest was smoking three rooms in front of us, I believe the engine crew below us contributed to the smoke smell in our room. I reported that the crew's smoke was flowing into our room three times, but alas, to no avail. We were unable to open our "window" on our deck the entire trip... :( There were great servers and room attendants who made the trip bearable. Irina, Marko (bartender), Victor, and Christian were phenomenal. Needless to say, I will NEVER, EVER recommend or go on a Scenic Cruise again. I will let you know that my travel agent intervened with the cruise line but all she could get was a $300 credit for us toward another Scenic cruise...which we declined. Travel with Scenic at your own risk. Read Less

The combination of total relaxation with the possibility to visit beautiful and historic towns and locations seemed to tick all the boxes, and we were not disappointed. The food, drinks, service and accommodation were all excellent, and the ship is modern and perfect for watching the world go by. The bike ride from Durnstein to Melk was a highlight, and there were many possibilities to exercise ashore, either on a walking tour or going for a run or a bike ride. The one wheelchair passenger on board seemed to be very happy with the help he received. The excursions were interesting and varied with local guides who were both affable and well informed. The experience started right from being met at Budapest and ended with our being dropped off at departures at Munich airport. We had not expected much from our debarcation day, but instead we had a riveting tour of Nuremburg and a wealth of informative detail on the bus trip from there to Munich. Our visit to Regensburg and the Spanish Riding School in Vienna were equally unforgettable. In short, this cruise delivered everything it promised, maybe more. Read Less

Avalon was highly recommended by friends, so we gave it a try...we were NOT disappointed! Our friends gave us some wonderful tips before our travel. We spent two extra days in Budapest and would have liked one more. The hop on hop off bus was a great way to see all we wanted to see. Embarkation was great. We met at the hotel and were bussed to our ship where our bags were waiting for us. Our cabin was very nice and the bathroom was fabulous....quite large for being on a ship! Everything was clean, modern, and wonderful. We wanted 'casual' and that's exactly what we got! We could have dressed up for dinner each night, but it wasn't required. The meals onboard were quite good and the entire staff was amazing! Sylvia, our tour director was the best. She arranged some VERY interesting and fun entertainment onboard as well as the wonderful shore excursions. We will DEFINITELY be back to Avalon!! Read Less

We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary aboard the AmaSonata and the whole cruise couldn't have been better! The room was small but well appointed. Breakfast and lunch buffets were excellent and at dinner there were many options off the menu. I had told them prior to the cruise that I had an allergy to cheese, and all the waiters were aware of this and they accommodated me. For our anniversary night, we ate at the elegant Chef's Table, a separate small restaurant apart from the main dining room. It was elegant and they feted us with a cake and song. The off-ship tours were very well arranged. There was something for all ability levels. Whenever we had the option, we took one of the guided bicycle tours offered. This was one of the reasons why we chose AmaWaterways over others. It was a fairly small group of bicyclists, no more than 20 persons. The entire staff went out of their way to make you feel welcome. We especially enjoyed our cruise director Raul. There was entertainment both on and off ship, usually very high quality, especially the classical music concert offered in the evening in Vienna. heard good things about Viking. We had excellent weather and our tour guides were superb. This was our first cruise, and Viking exceeded our expectations. I upgraded the beverage package and the single malt scotch selections were great. food service was excellent as was all staff. Danielle, our cruise director, was exceptional as was Zolten, our hotel manager. we particularly enjoyed our tour of the kitchen with the executive chef. We plan to take another cruise in 2018, and would enjoy taking one with Danielle and Zolten again. The guided tours were enjoyable and educational, as well as entertaining. We particularly liked Passau, Cesky Krumlov and Bratislava. Durnstein was a special treat. While the Viking Prestoge is one of the us oder ships, we found it to be just the right size, as we had some 150 people on board, and we do not like large crowds. I think the perfect weather we had made the trip thoroughly enjoyable. We were glad we booked the extended stay in Budapest, and the Corinthian hotel was a great choice. Read Less

We did a previous trip with Avalon and had a very good experience. They have a very good reputation and we wanted a cruise line that was rated better than the average line. Having three days in Budapest and four days in Prague allowed us to completely explore both cities on our own and with Avalon excursions. The seven days on the river was a great way to connect the two cities with excellent shore excursions and beautiful scenery. The cabins were very comfortable with excellent beds. The French balconies allowed great views and the windows opened wide to bring in the outdoors. Our floor had a coffee bar and lounge at the back of the boat. This allowed us to get coffee on our own at anytime, read the morning news or just enjoy the views before heading off to breakfast. All meals were very good with specials offered for each meal. We especially liked the Octoberfest lunch and beer tasting. Everything on the trip was well done and well organized. Lastly, as on our previous Avalon trip the cruise director was excellent and went beyond what was expected. Read Less

Leaving Budapest was magical with the music, lights, wine - a perfect evening and so romantic. This is one of those momemnts you never forget! We also loved touring Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. A beautiful city and loved having the time to explore the castle and enjoy the people. All our guides were excellent and we felt like we learned so much as we toured areas/cities/buildings and cathedrals. The evenings were filled with good conversations, excellent food and entertainment. We loved the nightly briefings and looked forward to the next days adventures. We were with 2 other couples who had book this tour and invited us. The location of our stay in Prague was definitely a negative in ending our tour. The director, Nancy, did an excellent job trying to overcome any difficulty. The hotel was quite nice but too far from everything. Having to use the underground to go everywhere was real problematic. Prague is a beautiful city and for Avalon to put us up in this location doesn't speak very highly where Avalon's priority is in the touring industry. This definitely angered a lot of the travelers. Visiting the Nuremberg Castle was a disaster. The hour plus wait to get into the castle in such cold conditions was horrible. My wife has physical issues that make it difficult to move around and would have benefited by having a scooter available for walking tours. We were not allowed to bring our own. On a positive note the director, Nancy, was excellent. The ship was excellent as were those responsible for making the ship comfortable and convenient. This trip was probably 4 yrs in the making. Friends recommended Viking some time ago then a lot of research was done before a decision was made. Everything about this trip was superb. The ship was very clean and had lovely décor. The cabin, although small, met our needs. Next trip we will opt for a cabin with a full veranda. Having dietary restrictions can always be difficult but the dining/kitchen staff handled my issues with great care & efficiency. The gluten free bread was actually very good. Prior to every meal, I was asked what I wanted from the menu & my meals were then prepared to meet my needs. My husband enjoyed every meal he had as well. The included excursions, was well as the optional ones we chose, were well run & informative. Really enjoyed the pre-excursion talks. The staff was very pleasant & attentive. The pre-trip planning was excellent. Booked airfare through Viking & was amazed at the incredible reduced cost. Could not have asked for better service. The historic sites; the beauty of the Danube; the incredibly great weather we had put this trip into the top 10 of trips we've taken over the past 30 years. We did this cruise to celebrate a milestone with another couple and chose it as we hadn't seen many of the stops even though we've all travelled a lot. Everything exceeded our expectations. The service on and off board was outstanding - everyone went above and beyond to look after us. Our cabin was absolutely lovely, the food delicious, the excursions were well planned, and the daily embarkation and disembarkation schedule was adhered to precisely (which is great as nobody likes to be waiting around unnecessarily). We had picture perfect weather and were able to enjoy all the views from the upper deck, as well as the excursions on land. The ONLY thing that anyone who likes a bit of proper physical activity needs to know, is it's tough to exercise properly - there is a track on the top deck but you are restricted re the hours you can use it (to ensure the people in the cabins below aren't disrupted by noise), and the itinerary when in port is tight, so tough to do much more on land, unless you opt not to do the tour. Overall an absolutely wonderful holiday and we are already planning the next one! Read Less

Although we had been on many ocean cruise this was our first river cruise. We began our journey with a 3 day pre-cruise visit to Prague before boarding our ship in Budapest. Prague was a beautiful city to visit. Before leaving home we were a little apprehensive about traveling on a smaller ship but found the intimate environment onboard the Viking ship to be great. We met lots of new friends and had an enjoyable time interacting with them both while dining and out on shore excursions. The included shore excursions for each port provided an incredible history lesson. Tour guides were excelent and in some ports there were options available depending on your particular interests. We did take an optional tours in Vienna for a Mozart concert (highly recommended) and city highlights of Salzburg. The Salzburg tour emphasis was The Sound of Music and while very interesting we felt rushed. Just needed a couple of extra free time hours to explore the city further. The ship's accommodations were great and the crew was terrific! Onboard lectures and entertainment also added value to the experience. Overall the cruise far exceeded our expectations. Read Less

My sister and her husband had taken a couple of River Cruises and loved them. I didn't take our differences into account when deciding on what side trips to sign up for; she likes to shop and I don't. That set me up for some disappointments. We also had motor trouble which lowered how much time we spent in ports and we spent more time on buses getting to ports and catching up with the boat which chugged on ahead. Also the top deck was closed for a significant part of the trip because of the low bridges which we didn't expect. That meant we lost the view and space for the travelers to spread out for too much of the trip . So our high expectations were not quite met. Taking that into account, the staff overall was great. The food was good-don't expect a 5 star restaurant, maybe a 3+ . We really enjoyed the towns, the tour guides in the cities , the city tours and got a good overview of the territory we traveled through. We did the extended stay at both Budapest and Amsterdam which enriched those cities. Unfortunately my husband sustained a severe injury in Amsterdam the night before we returned. The Viking Staff in the hotel was a life saver, arranging for Vikings staff who was waiting for us at the airport, taking us through the levels of security and having the airport staff lined up to help us get to the airplane. I can't imagine doing that without their help. They were excellent! Read Less

Scenic had explored various entertainment options, offering us everything from an exquisite concert in a formal atmosphere to an Oktoberfest party, as well as some performers and speakers brought on board to entertain, amuse and educate us. It was all great. At the end of the tour, we had no outstanding expenses with the tour company. Our only out-of -pocket costs were for souvenirs for those we left behind at home. We were absolutely delighted with the friendliness, helpfulness of the varied staff. Our tour director knocked it out of the park. I honestly can't see anyone doing his job better. He was freakin awesome! How awesome..... very helpful, flexible, adaptive, informative, well organized, and ultra great sense of humor! So take the following with a grain of salt. I'm a member in a rock band. Something other than just piano and vocals would have been more attractive for evening entertainment. The gentlemen that were providing entertainment were talented and delightful. Also, the older crowd and very limited space wouldn't probably allow for a more complete music experience..in my limited perspective and humble opinion. Food was well prepared, varied, interesting. Hospitality was off the charts. Thoroughly delightful experience. This was our first trip to Europe. It was, for my wife and I, our first trip to celebrate retirement. It will always rank this trip as very memorable! Read Less

We wanted to see Budapest, Vienna and Prague all in one trip. Uniworld was recommended by friends who travel the world and had also been on Uniworld. They said there was a focus on food and wine - our focus as well! We were not disappointed. Food, wine, service and wonderful staff. The trip was also "all inclusive", which made things so easy. All the tours were good as were the guides. The only extra was an abbey tour and concert in Vienna which was a highlight! The ship looked better in person than the brochure. Rooms were adequate with bathrooms on the smaller side, but all very nice and super clean as were all the areas. All staff were most accommodating, food choices plentiful and wine/snacks continuously offered in all areas. We have been on several cruise ships, and we really liked having only 100+ people. We made some good friends, and enjoyed everyone. We had an extra day in Budapest and also Prague. There is so much to see in both cities. Read Less

My wife had always wanted to go on a cruise with me but in my opinion the big cruise ships held no magic. Sailing along rivers and looking at castles was what I wanted so we booked the Grand European Tour on the Viking Villi. I was impressed with the boat and our room, #308, a Veranda Suite. The food was excellent, lots of choices and sufficient quantity to keep a grown man full. Staff were happy and efficient, taking care of any requests promptly. Our room steward, Dousdan, handled several odd requests quickly and with humor. Of the serving staff, Bogomil, was our favorite and his exclamation of "Excellent Choice" became a common line among our little group. A few minor schedule flubs were handled quickly by the Captain and crew, causing little or no delay in our trip. The Tour Director, Terry, was a congenial little Brit. and kept things interesting and fun. My wife and I were very pleased with the trip and would travel again with Viking. Read Less

We started on the trip on the Jarl river boat because there was a problem with a river lock that kept our original boat the Alta from making it to our starting point. We were not happy to learn after day two that we would have to change ships part way through our river cruise. NO PROBLEM Viking did everything in there power to make it as easy a switch as they could. The problem was beyond their control. We found the food to be very good, the staff to be very accommodating, the tours to be excellent. The program director was very informative about the different cities we visited and Organization was top notch. I thought this would be somewhat laid back on a river cruise, but we kept very busy pretty much of the time. All the transportation on the ground was in very nice buses, and the tour guides that Viking provided did an excellent job telling us about the history pertaining to the area we were visiting. We stayed over in Prague for three additional days after the river cruise having Vikng make the arrangements. The Palace hotel was fantastic, and our stay in Prague was Wonderful. This was was a very nice trip that I would recommend it. We had read a lot of mixed reviews on this cruise and cruise line. I think a lot of opinions depend on how picky you want to be. We found everyone working on the ship to be very pleasant and helpful. Read Less

What a wonderful experience on the Danube River. If you love to visit interesting cities and towns and explore (at your own pace or with a group), then this is the cruise for you. The scenery on the Danube river on sailing days is spectacular...took my breath away, even other passengers were so friendly...met great people at dinners. The ship was tidy and clean, service and staff is first class...they are so helpful and take time to help you out, excursions are wonderful and interesting (only thing is maybe add a bike tour), cabin was spacious considering, bed was so comfortable...great views from the room, food/meals were delicious! I like the way they would adapt their menu to the port of call! I would definitely recommend a River cruise for 45 and up...very relaxing and easy going. Not much night life, but a nice drink and some dancing after dinner was fun! My husband and I definitely plan to do this again!! Read Less
