We chose this cruise because of the stops in Iceland and Greenland, so the other ports were a bonus. The ports were good overall, but I would look carefully at the excursions offered from the cruise line and investigate ones on your own. We used Saga tours for tours in Iceland and Greenland. They did a good job overall, they were with small groups and we enjoyed that. The only problem is make sure if you use them in Greenland for a trip to the glacier that you get a guarantee of size of boat, that it is covered for ALL passengers, and that there are accommodations that allow for viewing for all passengers. We didn't, and they tried sending 4 large people in a boat that was meant for two people inside the "cabin area - the pilot and one other) with the rest of everyone outside. When is it drizzly weather being stuffed under the console was not a pleasant experience - we had to have the pilot return to port as we feared someone was going to crack their head open on the console when the pilot picked up speed. Regarding the shore excursions with Royal Caribbean, they were okay. They didn't offer anything outstanding but they weren't awful either. They did have a big problem in getting people off the ship when we tendered in Shetland, Scotland. Our private tour was delayed two hours because of it, we were unable to get to the southern part of the island as a result. The big thing to watch for is cabin location. We weren't able to self select the cabin, and were assigned 3610 - average size with a nice sized window. The major PROBLEM was it is over the engines - we had a constant hum to whine the entire trip. You could tell how fast the ship was going by the sound of the engines. For two nights there was a horrible sound that reminding me of an anchor being pulled up, it clanked and rolled. The food is average, but the waitresses and waiters were top notch. Read Less

We recently booked a back to back cruise on Rhapsody of the Seas. The first segment was transatlantic, Tampa FL to Barcelona. The second from Barcelona to Venice. In fact, these were really two separate cruises. Segment 1 - The Tampa-Barcelona leg of the cruise started out extremely well. Boarding in Tampa was a breeze and we were on board and having lunch in no time. The sea days were very pleasant. The food in the Windjammer cafeteria was varied and quite acceptable while the food in the main Dining Room was excellent. The menu included Prime Rib (more than once) and Rack of Lamb, Service was also excellent. RCCL had made a mistake, assigning us early dining time instead of late but that was easily corrected. Our cabin was quite small and, like the rest of the ship somewhat dated. It did not even have a mini-bar or refrigerator. Storage space was likewise quite limited but we made do. Our cabin steward was an old pro and handled every detail without having to be asked. In short, this first segment of the cruise went by too fast Segment 2 - This second part was so diffferent as to almost have been on another ship. Because RCCL had made a mistake with our dining time before I made a point of contacting them before the end of segment 1 to make sure that everything was as it should be for the second segment. I was assured that everything was taken care of. On the day of "checking in again" in Barcelona I discovered that the same error had been made in our dining arrangements. I immediately contacted Guest Services and was assured that the problem had been corrected. When we proceeded to the Dining Room that evening we found that the D.R. staff had no idea about the change. Finally the Head Waiter took us to an unoccupied table, where we sat and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally at 9:15 a waiter appeared, apologized for the delay, left us a glass of water and took our order. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally at 10:00 we got up and left, explaining to the Maitre the problem with the service and requesting a new table. Finally the next night we started getting normal service. I can only assume that our first waiter felt 'put upon' by being assigned another (our) table and decided to let us know. In any event, this put a pall on the remainder of the cruise. Additionally,a few nights later the air conditioning in the ceiling decided to leak water on both our nightstands at 10:30 in the evening. Fortunately the crew was able to fix the problem in about an hour. During the entire second part of the cruise there seemed to be a marked tendency on the part of the crew to be less friendly and less helpful than during the transatlantic segment. Windjammer had very small selection for lunch but dining room at lunch was the best better than dining room at night.Theater entertainment was great very good choices specialty the classic series and Forever group.Embarkation was slow and disorganized same at ports .One thing they did not pay much attention to washing hands at the venues sometimes machines was empty. Dining room waiter and assisted we had were excellent in general everyplace waiters were absolutely helpful. and good. We're nice set up for Crown Royalty members. We never met all the officer just few and on Capitan reception only cruise director and hotel manager excursion stuff. In many areas different than our other cruises on Royal. Food was good some days others not fish was or overcooked or not cooked enough. Desserts small choices specially at dinner time. Always pushing sales but merchandise is same all the time. Read Less

Great ship, Andrea, the cruise director is a gem. Afternoon concerts across the pond were great. Food ok but very boring; it is unfortunate that Adrea’s Enthusiasm does not rub off on balance of crew. Luggage handling, and shore excursion desk beyond poor. Expansion of diamond lounge was a great move. Luggage confiscated without notification or cause. Incorrect and conflicting information on shore excursions. No one at desk would double check with vendor for correct information. I completed a cruise questioner on day 6, all above comments mentioned and ignored. Sometimes simple things can be best: egg drop, master chef contest, free speciality coffee, all great ideas. By what appeared to be a concerned crew, but lack of follow up in many other areas disappointing. Made my time dining reservations six months out, but had to change time due to another person. I have been on two other transatlantic crossings, both of them on the Brilliance. I expected a similar experience on the Jewel, as it is also a Radiance class ship, like the Brilliance. However there was no comparison. On the Brilliance you knew you were in for a special cruise right from the time you boarded and were greeted and served champagne. Not so on this ship. On the Brilliance each evening at the special reception for Diamond and up guests the crew dressed in themed costumes and the lounge was decorated in a similar theme. Not so on this ship. On the Brilliance the Centrum was decorated for departure and upon reaching the final destination it was re-decorated to reflect the place of arrival. Not so on this ship. Cabin service was exceptional. Food in the Windjammer buffet and the main dining room was good also, but the buffet deserts were only good sometimes, other times poor. Entertainment was generally good. The volume level for the pool deck movies was ear splitting and there were only a few people watching each night as a result. The rest of the deck was deserted. There was constant work going on with much noise and noxious odors. Sea conditions were mostly very smooth except around the Azores and the last sea day from Valencia to Rome. Temperatures were much warmer than expected and only in Valencia was there any appreciable rain, so the weather was far better than expected for a crossing this early in the spring. The airport transfer in Florida was terrible, but the one in Rome was very good, although very expensive at $75 if booked with your cruise. Inexplicably it was only $71.99 if booked on board! Never experienced that one before! Guest services staff were generally excellent. Overall the lack of the ship having that special atmosphere of an Atlantic crossing was a disappointment. This was our 5th repositioning cruise with RC and did not compare very well with the others.We have noticed a gradual decline in quality over the last decade. Embarkation was much slower than usual and seemed very disorganized.Signage at the terminal was poor and we had a hard time finding the right assembly point.The security man who checked our bags was rude. All the crew members were excellent as usual - helpful and friendly. Our cabin attendant, Mr. Igusti was great, as was Mr. Iputu, who looked after us very well at the Windjammer. The Windjammer greeters were always smiling and friendly and made us welcome. We had some breakfasts at Tides, which were pretty good, and the waiters there were courteous and helpful. But most of our meals were at the Windjammer. I am vegetarian and find the buffet has far more choices for me than the main dining room. Food quality at the Windjammer was variable. I found the salad bar quite good most of the time but sometimes items that ran out were not replaced very quickly. Blue cheese dressing, my favorite, often ran out. The vegetable curries were good. The veggies were OK, but variety was not great. Mashed potato was fine but baked or roasted were poor. The cold drinks were pathetic - flavored water instead of real juice. Coffee was usually appalling and we opted for tea most of the time. Cheese selection was poor, blue cheese was rarely available. Desserts were sometimes good, but some of the cakes looked nice but were extremely dry. I never saw the executive chef at the Windjammer, unlike on previous cruises. We enjoyed the evening entertainment, especially David Naster, who was hilarious. The orchestra was good but some of the female singers higher notes seemed rather distorted by the sound system.The four tenors group was great. We always go our own way at the ports as we find the organized tours grossly overpriced. Ponta Delgada was nice. Gibraltar was very enjoyable and we liked the gondola trip and the monkeys a lot. Alicante was pleasant. Valencia was a big disappointment, with a long and expensive bus ride and very little to see. On balance we found this ship lacking, and will probably try a different company for our next cruise, I'm sorry to say. Read Less

We were supposed to sail from Southampton to Boston, New York, Port Canaveral and Miami. However, we were called on th Friday afternoon before the Monday cruise and told that due to storms in the Atlantic we would now go to Le Havre, Brugges and then Miami. Not quite the same appeal! We were offered a full refund if we cancelled but as booked the flights ourselves and non refundable hotel rooms in Miami we would have had to claim through our travel agent so we had no choice but to go. Having been to France and Belguim on numerous RC cruises, we were really not looking forward to the cruise even with the $200 OBC for the changes and 20% off what we paid for this cruise towards another. I did ask if there were really storms in the Atlantic or whether it was an excuse to have further repairs to the Ship after last weeks accident with the stabiliser making a large hole in the hull. I was told it was fully repaired. When we checked in on the Monday, I was told it was actually repaired this morning after people had disembarked. However, at the lifeboat drill the Captain said due to a gap in the storm we would now go to Gran Canria, Coco Cay, Port Canaveral and Miami so things looked better. 3 rough days at sea, due to storms was not too bad, have had worse in Iceland! Gran Canaria was ok, then it got warmer as we cruised towards Perfect Day Coco Cay (RC's private island). That morning the sea turned choppy and I had a feeling the tenders wouldn't be able to get us ashore. Unfortunately the captain soon came on and told us the same. We promptly turned around and left what looked like a building site (lots of work going on for next year) and went to Freeport Bahamas. Lots of shops but not much else. Worth noting that RC were charging whatever they could for excursions on Coco Cay, even for floating mat which seemed a rip off. I guess they want us to pay for the island for them. At this point it became a case of guess which port we are going to next. Then we went to Port Canaveral which was great. We had originally booked a tour of the space centre but was then told that due to immigration it would not be possible to have a guided tour and instead they would just take us there and we had to get around ourselves. At this point we were so used to changes we didn't care. So, we spent the day at the Space Centre at our leisure before heading to Miami. Cabin was good, central location which helped make the rough seas feel not as bad. We had to ask for bath robes and toiletries. Surprisingly our crown and anchor free gifts were in the cabin - normally I spend 2 days chasing. I was due a free gift for reaching 240 points on my June cruise so asked the diamond concierge about it. Was told I would receive it later in the cruise but did not. There was no sign of him the last few mornings in the lounge and he ignored the note I left for him. Thanks Ken! Emailed when I returned and it was posted out to me but not a good example of how to treat loyal customers. Food was very good. Slow setting up in the Windjammer for lunch and sometimes food was cold as had been left out whilst setting up. Staff very friendly and helpful. Was disappointed they only had the UHTmilk which tasted awful. Shops were the usual overpriced expensive items and the usual $10 tat sales. Lots to do during the day and evening though. Lessons learnt - never assume where you book is where you are going. Book refundable rooms if making your own plans for the start or end of your cruise Pack a mixture of clothes as some people were caught up with the change if destination and climate. Read Less

A transatlantic cruise on a new ship, a very large one, without a lot of children on board seemed like a good idea. In many ways, it was a fine experience, except for dining. It is unclear to me how meals could be so bad, how service could be so sloppy to non existent to unconnected. There were lots of pluses on the ship. Entertainment was top notch, including a great production of the musical Hairspray. Public spaces and cabins are well fitted and mostly comfortable. Housekeeping and cleanliness were highlights of the ship. And there were lots of deck chairs and lounge chairs available on sunny days. The solarium, at the front of the ship, on decks 14 and 15 is a great space, but it turns into a heat trap on hot sunny days. There are lots of spapools spread around and they were always clean, despite being well used. But, beware the inconsistent food service. So many examples, I am not sure where to begin. There was a lunch at the Park Cafe where we ordered two sandwiches, which were delivered to the table on one plate. We asked for a second plate, but were told they were running out of plates. Another day they ran out of forks. In the Solarium cafe, one could order an omelette, made to order, but we were told they did not provide fresh toast of bagel to go with it. And the tables in this space were jammed so close to each other that you could not get out of your chair without bumping into other guests. Then there was the main dining room. It was consistently inconsistent in service, but the food was consistently mediocre to bad. I complained to guest services, Diamon Club concierge and dining room managers, the cruise director and many other staff. The reply was always the same, You must remember Symphony is a very large ship. Duh, Royal built it and has been operating it since April. They should know how to run a big ship. Strange thing is, they know how to service the cabins, they know how to keep the ship immaculely clean, and they know how to move crowds of people around the ship. Despite the poor dining experiences, we had a good time on this transatlantic voyage. But I doubt I would ever travel on a mega ship again. Read Less

We sail frequently mostly on Celebrity, are Elite+, and wanted a big ship with lots to do for our transatlantic crossing. Symphony of the Seas was amazing with lots of venues and activities. Btw/ We loved the newly designed cabin layout, colour palatte and spacious showe. The crew below Officers/Managers were friendly, engaging and often exceeded our expectations. Wonderful to experience this great service and teamwork on such a big ship. Food quality was generally poor in the free venues. Speciality food and service was EXCELLENT but came with extra costs. Not many deals once on-board so pre-purchasing before departure is recommended. Other than Captain Rob, the Officers/Managers were not very present or engaging throughout the cruise. Loved Captain Rob. At our stop in Port Canaveral the ship’s Officers/Managers made a mistake by not completely exiting excursion passengers ahead of general departures like normal and promised but didn’t take ownership for their mistake and instead blamed the usual immigration processing delays that often plague sailings returning to America, particularly transatlantic crossings. Oddly, neither the ship nor port personelle made any effort to remedy their mistake as it unfolded. Everyone that day had reason to be upset by the immigration delays but excursion passengers were particularly hard hit. We then hit another round of delays getting off at our final stop in Miami as the transportation facilities and process was a disaster. Organization by Royal on the ground was non-existent and the brand new terminal seemed poorly designed to handle busses efficiently and queue taxis and Uber’s. A terrible final 2 days getting off the ship. Thankfully the 10 days prior were great once we started paying for quality food. Read Less

We chose this ship because we wanted to be in the USA in plenty of time to visit our son for Thanksgiving and we had sailed with this line before on Navigator of the seas and enjoyed it - we were staying for 8 weeks in the USA and we have used a cruise ship to go over and back before and it was great to avoid the long haul flights. For a disabled cabin 6324 was a lovely size and plenty of room with a roll in shower. It was easy to get out on to the balcony and it was well situated for the lifts. I used my small electric scooter on the ship and there was plenty of room to bring it into the cabin. The whole ship was just too busy. Trying to get into lifts that were full every time it was meal time or show time was a nightmare. People would not move to let you into the lifts, and do not go there with the amount of kids on the ship during school term time. The only time l could get into the adults only pool was when everyone else went on shore excursions and we stayed on the ship. Those extra new 100 cabins have made it way to busy to get a sun bed or just move about with ease if you are disabled. The entertainment was good but even though we booked anytime eating in the restaurant we were asked to pick a time to eat because it was so busy and we would have to stand for ages otherwise.....what is the point in anytime dining? We found the staff were sadly not as good as on other cruises and the whole ship seems to be geared to families and children now. In school hols l am sure it is great for them but l did not expect so many children on a trans Atlantic cruise in November!! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the timing. We were in Europe for 6 weeks and wanted to cruise back home at this time. This was the second cruise we took on RCCL. We thought it was just ok the first time. We find other cruise lines better. We were not impressed with RCCL at all with this cruise. The ship needs a lot of work. Most of the furniture is old, chipped and needs to be replaced. And get rid of those hideous artificial plants! The food is mediocre at best. The dinner service was excellent though. The breakfast service in the dining room was so bad that most days we didn’t eat there. We had to wait a long time for a table even though there were empty tables and it took a long time to get our food. The whole breakfast service was very chaotic and disorganized. The only thing good about eating breakfast in the dining room was Hans. He is a delight! The cruise director, Steve was very good and worked hard, as was his staff. Orlando was very personable and funny. He would make an excellent cruise director. We also enjoyed Talita very much. She is funny but at times difficult to understand. We enjoyed laying out by the pool most sea days, but found the music annoying. They should take into consideration that the average age of their cruisers is 60+. We don’t enjoy techno, teenie bopper music. Same with the movies the showed on the outdoor screen. They were mostly kids’ movies and no one was watching them but you couldn’t get away from the sound. The evening shows were a mix, some very good and others not so much. We really enjoyed the Beatles show, the pianist, the ship’s orchestra, David Nestor, and James Stephens. We didn’t really care for the 2 production numbers, they seemed to drag. Also didn’t like Neal Austin. He should be doing children’s parties. We also enjoyed the enrichment forensics talks very much. They were very interesting. The shows in the Centrum were good and enjoyable, but too crowded and hard to see. Late comers squeeze in in front of those in seats so people that were there and seated coulddn’t see. The ship seemed clean, and the cabins were also clean. The room attendants worked very hard. Just got back from 16 days on the Brilliance. Our stateroom was so tired. Furniture was scuffed, needed replacing or refurbished. The bathroom had an odor we couldn't identify, sort of like mold. The main dining room needs more variety. Food was mediocre. Some of the entertainment was good, other so-so. I had a good time, but I began to feel like I was in steerage, no amenities in the stateroom. No lotion in the bathroom, no pen and paper in the desk. But what I did like was the amount of storage. Large closet with shelves for shoes, etc. Vanity had six nice sized drawers. The bathroom had one mirror that opened so one could see the back of their hair. The mirrors over the vanity opened up for storage. The stewards, waiters, all the folks serving our needs were excellent and wanted to please. Ports were excellent. The captain plotted course to avoid hurricane Florence entirely. The overall feeling was that Royal Caribbean is cutting expenses to the bone. Read Less

I decided to go on another transatlantic cruise with Royal Caribbean because I had such a great time on the 2017 transatlantic cruise on the Brilliance of the Sea. This year I decided to take the Rhapsody of the Seas from Tampa to Barcelona. The ship is probably about 20 years old and could use a make-over but even though it's a little dated it is clean and a very nice ship. The cruise director Elvis and his assistants, Eric & Bernie, are fabulous. They are the best I have experienced and made every day fun. Their expertise at keeping the activities fun and the good entertainment made the cruise enjoyable. Most people hear about how great the food is on a cruise. Well, NOT ON THIS CRUISE! If this was my first cruise, I would probably call everyone who talked about delicious food on cruises a liar. This food looked fantastic but tasted the opposite. Out of 9 dinners in the dining room, there were 7 days that people at our table sent food back because it was so bad they couldn't eat it. Appetizers and desserts were left uneaten after taking one bite. The buffet wasn't any better. How can hard boiled eggs be so hot that you can't peel them and pizza be cold? Everything in the buffet was dried out. Pancakes were so hard they could be used as frisbees, toast would completely crumble when you picked it up and bacon always ended up as bacon bits. If you can live off boxed cereal & milk for 14 days then you would be happy. I on the other hand lost over 10 pounds. It's nice to lose weight but I didn't book this cruise to lose weight. This is only my second cruise with Royal Caribbean so I won't be recommending Royal Caribbean to friends. Hopefully, this is just a fluke and not normal. I have a couple more Royal Caribbean cruises booked this year and I'm hoping they are better, otherwise, it's bye-bye to Royal Caribbean. Read Less

This was my first voyage on Rhapsody of the Seas and my first on Royal Caribbean. As someone who has sailed fairly extensively on Holland America Lines (HAL), this is my point of comparison. The positive aspects of Rhapsody of the Seas on this transatlantic crossing to Barcelona were the friendly, competent level of service and the food. The lunch buffet choices and quality were actually better than HAL. Kudos to the chef who creates such wonderful curries and other Indian food. The dinners in the dining room fell a wee bit short of HAL, but not by much; they were completely fine. The shore excursions on the Canary Islands were reasonable and had excellent guides and venues. Check-in was quick and easy in Tampa. The several lectures presented by a doctor speaker on medical/health history were top drawer. The negative aspects of Rhapsody of the Seas compared to Holland America are significant. First, the entertainment. Certainly, entertainment is a matter of personal taste, but for us a kid in a backwards ball cap doing wheelies on a BMX bike is not for us. Neither were the magician, the (rather embarrassingly talentless) guests’ talent show, and so on. As for music, I missed the classical music and the jazz I’ve experienced on HAL. (Yes, there’s a violinist and electrical guitarist playing modern movie themes and pop hits, but their playing, no matter how good, didn’t appeal to classical or jazz fans). Second, the noise. Almost everywhere you go on the ship, it’s noisy, either from the entertainment in the central atrium, or the top outdoor-pool deck, or the ubiquitous PA system, which is constantly playing Muzak-type noise. This was heard even in the hallways on the cabin levels. What’s wrong with allowing some quiet spaces without Muzak? Third, the amenities. Yes, I do like smaller ships, but certain amenities were lacking compared to HAL. No free New York Times online or in hard copy, no real library, no indoor movie theatre, no quiet indoor lounges, etc. We met some nice people on board, and enjoyed the voyage a lot. However, the hard-to-define characteristic of ambience – the vibe – was not as good on this voyage for the most part compared to HAL. I’d say that the HAL ambience is more relaxed and also more elevated. We’ll stick with HAL in future, when possible. Read Less

For a vacation to relax, we took our dance shoes with us, normally on RCCL, there is dance (ball room) music before dinner and after dinner and if you are lucky the bands can play later too ball room music. On the Navigator of the Seas this time, pre recorded music, dancefloor was too small. The big band can play jazz very well, but no ball room music, the waltz was too quick, rumba too quick, only the cha cha cha went well. the other bands was more for latin lovers. We were very disappointed even wrote the Hotel director Cary Davies to draw his attention to this fact but after calling the last day guest service, why he did not answer our letter, it seems that he lost our letter (we gave this letter personally to him, on the Diamond and above event) a lot of excuses, but it was the last day so no ball room for us, only excuses. Overall the food was very good. The ice show was spectecular we enjoy two times one show was specialy for diamonds and above. The ping pong tables were situated on a bad position, only one table was used the whole day by a group they played with 4, so waiting time was more than one hour while the rule is half an hour, this was bad organized. not sophisticated and certainly not sportive to fellow guests. From Southampton nothing was organized to go to the centre 15 minutes walk, no bus shuttle, only taxis. 1608 atlantic cruise no sun shine on the balcony be aware. Read Less

We recently took a Transatlantic Cruise on RCL Naviagator of the Seas. We booked an aft cabin (6388). Having cruised many times before in aft cabins we like the ability to see behind us - it makes for great pictures, particularly when leaving a port. Nowhere in any brochure or online does it state that this cabin has an obstructed view. We could not see directly down to the water as there was an extended inaccessable deck outside our balcony which had railings and poles and a crew access deck directly below us. The cruise was completely booked so we could not change our cabin to a regular outside balcony. Upon returning from our cruise I contacted RCL to let them know that overall we were happy with the cruise however our cabin was not was it was advertised as. I even sent them pictures. Their response.......if you can see the horizon of the water, it's not obstructed and therefore should not have interfered with the enjoyment of our cruise. It most certainly did. Our Travel Agent was in agreement with us and will warn potential cruisers of this misinformation. Buyer beware! Remainder of cruise met our expectations. Dining room staff was very good and extremely accommodating. I’m a fussy eater but they always made sure there was something for me on the menu or they made me something special. Couldn’t have asked for more. Loved the fact the Customs was aboard the ship so the day before we docked, we went through customs so upon arrival in Southampton we could quickly depart the ship. Service staff in general are hard-working, cheerful, and concerned about providing a pleasant trip. We found some managers less thoughtful, sometimes uninterested. There were stupid mistakes like running out of Purell and not being able to find a spare for over 2 hours- that's a managerial error. Moving the dispenser is not a solution. F&B staff should check the coffee machine before Diamond cocktail hour begins. It happens every day, so why don't they learn. Everywhere on the ship the sound system was too loud, especially in the evenings. We went to the "service" desk, but no one ever changed the volume or to our knowledge, even checked. It drove us out of the bars and lounges and when I explained that to mgmt, someone just laughed. The guests were walking around in outdoor jackets and scarves, they didn't reduce the air-conditioning, so we went back to our rooms where we could control the temperature. Food was great and beautifully presented. Chefs and servers were uniformly friendly and informative. Many of the common areas could use a little touch-up paint. One customer stated that the boat had been ridden hard over the years and needed some TLC. Read Less

This is our 25th cruise, 4th transatlantic cruise and 4th with Royal Caribbean. Smooth seas all the way, we were sorry to not stop in San Juan and RCI substituted St. Kitts. This sailing on Royal Caribbean felt like being in economy class on the airlines. A noticable decrease in food quality plus they have cut, cut, cut the ships staff in all areas from house keeping, dining room and windjamer, to all other areas of the ship. RCI has dropped from one of our favorites to a least favorite. RCI is charging extra $ for everything possible and unless you are diamond class or higher you feel like and are treated like a second class person. The atrium continues to be a noise problem as Very Loud is the standard for all entertainment. RCI continues to allow smoking and a person can just sit down and smoke without playing any machines!. I choose this cruise because of the price, the itinerary, and I'd never cruised on RC before. And I won't be back. RC- if you do NOTHING else, you must institute a seminar for First Time RC Cruisers ONLY. Have one per each 5 days at sea. (Let's face it - the longer the cruise, the older the passenger, the more we need review!) This seminar should be all about the loyalty program. During this seminar, you should treat us like were were Platinum, and then tell us how we get to be like that on every RC cruise! Explain all the levels and what they mean, etc. Raffles do seem to be good, too! Jim and I kept running into places we couldn't go (breakfast in Chops Grille?!?!) or perqs we couldn't get and we had NO IDEA what Diamond Plus meant or how to get it!! There were MANY other little things (two levels of approval to get Housekeeping to bring me some lotion; uncharging for everything; no chocolates on the pillow). The Brilliance is in great need of updating. My sink was broken and there were large divots in the wall. And why did I have to hear my neighbors flush their toilet, sing, or turn on their TV? Oh wait, here's another: The enrichment activities that I attended were great! BUT they were led by fellow passengers and apparently RC didn't do anything to compensate them. That's rude. RC could offer them dinner in Chops or one of the other eat-for-fee places. I thought that was so cheesy. I gave them 3 stars because their were things that were out of their control and, more importantly, there were some amazing, fun, outrageous, beautiful, hysterical (I participated in The Quest.), great times on this vacation. we did have some really fantastic times!!!!! And the cabins were considerably bigger than those on the Princess ships we know. On a brighter note, we'll be doing the Panama Canal on March with Princess. I called them. They still do pillow chocolates and every cabin gets lotion, bath gel, shampoo. and conditioner in their own private little containers. Read Less

Activities and Events were scheduled all over the place. The Atrium was consistently used where decks or clubs would have been better. Planning could have been much better. Needs maintenance throughout the ship. The food was OK but nothing spectacular. The dinning staff we had were excellent. Deserved the WOW we gave them (extra gratuity). The day to day activities were not planned out the best as far as time. Many things were cut short as they over lapped each other. The entertainment was excellent but thr Cruise director was boring. Information daily was not the greatest and the weather was poor. The ship seemed just a ship! Nothing spectacular and as far as memories they will be negative. Unfortunately a poor cruise over all!! Our next RCL Cruise will be on the Anthem of the Seas and hopefully it will be a better experience. The JEWEL was no JEWEL!! Read Less

After several cruises with Royal Caribbean and some prior with Fred Olsen, we have been disappointed and probably will not go with RC again. Service is poor and standards are dropping, see details below: 1 Chops Grille for lunch, poor menu selection, average quality. No sides of vegetables ? 2 No room safe, asked at customer service (twice), eventually turned up after 3 days. It then stopped working on THREE ocassions, complained at Customer Service, response poor and no manager available, showed complete lack of interest. 3 Enquired about transfers from ship to hotel and transfer to airport following day arranged by Royal Caribbean, again not really interested in helping me and made a bland statement that it would be sorted on day of disembarkation. (total lack of information) 4 Main Dining Room - repetative menu with little change. 5 Disembarkation at Miami (total chaos), no help from RC staff on shore who did not have any information and even sent us to wrong bus pick up point. 6 We were intending to book another cruise on board but after several cruises with RC have now decided to try another cruise line. Have been on a few other different cruise lines. This was our first on Royal Caribbean. Our cabin steward was brilliant. He informed me that they, and a few other, direct customer facing employees are not paid at all by the cruise line. They rely on tips for their "wages". Ours was definitely worth his tips. Embarkation was very smooth - don't listen to those that say it wasn't. We bought a package and only ate in the speciality restaurants.Whilst the food was generally of a high standard it wasn't really to my taste. I preferred the food in the Windjammer Cafe. As others have mentioned I did find the lack of toiletries and tissues surprising. That is the first cruise line I have encountered a lack of those things. Contrary to what others are saying - there was plenty to do. Quizzes, lectures, dancing, shows, ice shows etc. What more do you want! To the people that complain about lack of smoking space and then complain about the cigar room "stinking!" - what planet are you on! That's what non smokers put up with all the time. Not our best cruise ever. But that's because of penny pinching by Royal Caribbean. But would I take another cruise with them - yes. Read Less

Crossing the Atlantic I can now say is ticked off my bucket list. The cruise, food and room attendant were excellent. The only let down was customer services department. Shortly after we set sail my personal wheelchair's front wheel packed it in (despite a preparatory service). It was sent to the ship's engineering department who after I inquired about the repairs was returned unfixed three days later with the comment they couldn't fix it (they obviously haven't seen the TV show Macgyver!). A slow learner, it took me four times to realise that the ship's loan wheelchair did not have any non-tip skids, including a tip over when getting ready to leave the Kennedy Space Centre bus on an RCL excursion (Houston we have a problem!). No assistance was given by staff on disembarkation because I wasn't using an RCL chair? Yet if I had used on of their chairs, I would have been pushed off. Fortunately the concierge at one of our Miami stopovers pursued the repair which enabled us to continue our round the world trip. A wheelchair is a necessity for my mobility, not a nice to have. Really enjoyed the food in the MDR and speed of service. We purchased a drinks card this time as opposed to a drink package. We seemed to get more economic use out of this card this time. Beware of the claim by RCL they have simplified things for our benefit, we simply don't believe you RCL. Speaking of which RCL need to sort out their welcome back party for their loyalty customers. It was non existent for the second year running. We loved the Virtual balcony and we had read reviews that the novelty wears off after the first night. Wrong, we loved it the whole cruise. We chose this cruise as an alternative to flying out to our families in the US. We won’t do it again! The weather was too rough and cold to be out on deck during the winter, therefore 99% of passengers were inside for 95% of the waking time whilst at sea. The ship always felt crowded and bustling during the day (noisier and less relaxing than normal). Unfortunately Navigator appeared tired and ready for a thorough refit. Where maintenance work was carried out in public spaces (men’s toilets particularly) repairs were shoddy. Furniture in the Star lounge and Metropolis theatre broke and fell apart several times but was just put back in place to fail again. The ships organisation of the US immigration procedure was abysmal, they tried to blame the US but it was clearly RC at fault. After so many, many years and entries into the US you would think that they could make this task easier, every passenger on board had more ideas than RC. It took us 3 hours to get through and to get off the ship standing in 2 queues each virtually the length of the ship. Lastly, it was reconfirmed to us that RC no longer strive to provide the type of food menu and service that we used to receive. It now provides just average restaurant food options and quality as opposed the fine dining experience of earlier days. They clearly want passengers to pay extra to visit the speciality dining options. Read Less

This was a cruise from southhampton to USA. The embarkation was poor at southamption as to waiting times which was due to the way the queues are organised. The arrival at Boston took a minimum standing time of two hours to get off ship with queues stretching more than double the length of the ship to go through US customs; customs were quick; therefore the delays are down to RC. Similar delays were also on final embarkation of the ship. Again this was down to RC and not as claimed by RC due to port and customs. There is plenty of senior staff going around the ship checking on front of house staff and service. Front of house staff and their service was generally very good and the amount of senior staff are not required as standing around on phones/discussions do not assist the front of house staff or the service. More front of house staff and less senior staff would improve the passenger experience. i.e. there was a problem at the promanade cafe which saw 4 senior staff on phones and in discusions with each other. The addition of two front of house staff to serve the customers, then the kitchen could not keep up with the customers queues better if the seniors had actually joined the front line staff and back room to improve the service. Similarly the windjammer, certain dishes were not available for 15 minutes and front line staff having to complain on behalf of passengers. What dishes there were available e.g, sausages you could not get a knife through the middle and the ends were worse, this cannot be edible. At this time there was 3 senior staff checking the service in the windjammer. Possibly checking the product that was being served and assisting with service would have improved the customers experience. Read Less
