We took this T/A RCL cruise because the price was unbeatable and because we got our Celebrity T/A cruise for the same period from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro cancelled. I am a Celebrity/Hal guy where I think the food are the best and they are the one keeping the real idea of cruising. RCL strives to isolate you from the sea, there is not even a place/table/bar/resto to sit and drink or eat outside by the sea unless you are locked in inside. The layout/decoration of the pool terrace is a bit cheap, it's even childish.

We got balcony cabin on deck 7,,, (see review on cabin review). Now the food,, we got 5 specialities resto package, The Chop (twice), Wonderland, Tapenyaki and Isumi. The WOW factor was not there,, The Chop Filet Mignon was good the first time but very good the second time, the peppercorn sauce suck,,, same for the french fried cooked in truff oil not good, for my wife, the rack of lamb was good the first time and very good the second time. The Wonderland was very good and the service excellent. The Japaneese Tapanyaki charged us 25$ extra on top of the 375$ already paid for the 5 specialities restaurants and you can not get filet mignon and lobster together unless you ask them to ré-arrange the menu combination, they agreeded and they agreeded also to double up the lobster if you ask, thanks for them and it was very good, the japaneese soup though was not good, for the desert stick with the 3 japaneese ice cream scoops, forget the other dessert option its not good. Do not include the sushi Isumi restaurant in you package,,, you will loose money,,, it is better to go a la carte. The buffet is well laid out and not so bad in taste,,, for the breakfast, I couldnt get my eggs cooked the way I like for 14 days even if I asked the guy at the omelette station 4-5 times, he just refused each time,,, on all my previous 25 cruises each morning I could get my eggs exactly the way I want but not on the Odyssey, Harmony or on the Oasis. Another thing I dont like with theese buffet, is that you have no place to sit outside at the back of the ship where it is so nice to have breakfast and watch the sunrise.

For the MDR, for the mytime dinner on deck 3, it is one of the dullest dining room on the sea. The food is not at the level of HAL or Celebrity but it was not bad, especially the aged prime rib, the pork and the lamb shank, we got lobsters at the 11th night and it was very good. It was extremely difficult to get hot soup, hot escargot bourguignon or even hot capucino,,, I always tip the waiter 5$ before the meal and specifying strongly to get our food very hot, even though we returned a lot of soup, a lot of escargot and a lot of capucino. We changed table many night and we faced the same problem each waiters, some of them acted like robots, yes yes yes and no change.

Cabin Review

Obstructed Ocean View Balcony

Balcony Cabin 7200,, bigger cabin than average, very quiet, a lot of storage, way too big and too hard pillows, bed less comfy than HAL, Celebrity or Princess. Deck seven is not obstructed view, except for the few cabins like mine facing the life raft rigging, all other cabins between raft rigging got clear view.

Port Reviews

La Spezia (Cinque Terre)

We took a train daily pass for 16 Euros, went to MontRosso by train and return to the previous village walking the cliff, very nice

Valencia

The old city is very nice and very far,,, more than 1 hour walking, do not hesitate to take the 10 euros shuttle service

Madeira (Funchal)

very nice island, we took the HoHo red bus, 20 euros each directly at the bus stop.
