This was an Anniversary cruise for us and we were quite pleased with the overall experience (particularly no children on board). My wife's double-doctorate background concluded that, facetiously, Walt Disney must have been involved with Regent's personnel committee because she/we were so, so overwhelmed with the friendly, caring, positive and enthusiastic traits we experienced every single day of our cruise in our interactions with the crew and staff. Having read some of the previous food reviews on Cruise Critic, we felt we were on a different ship in that our meals were over-the-top good, both as to food quality & appearance and service. Period! They were very good gastronomic experiences. Our cabin was impressive as will be described below. Now, as to areas that could be improved, I'd need to start with the embarkation process in Miami where we were crowded into a holding pen area until magically they started calling groups to board the ship. No refreshments or other amenities were offered while waiting, some of whom were there for 2+ hours. A fairly common complaint I heard on board was the unreliability of the ship's Wi-Fi system. Another frustration was the lack of sports information on the TV system, i.e. ESPN. We're in the midst of the college and pro football seasons, and the World Series, and we were left in the dark. No one wants a sports bar, but ESPN would have been great. Finally, our port visit to Costa Maya was less than satisfying, but the other ports were well worth visiting. Please don't let these few negatives stand in your way. The many, many positives easily overwhelmed the negatives. Read Less

Just returned from the Rome to Athens cruise on the Voyager. Four of us chose this cruise to celebrate two 60th Birthdays. We had Penthouse C cabins on the 8th Deck which were beautiful and our Butler, Bish, was outstanding and so attentive! We ate at all of the dining venues with Prime 7 and Compass Rose being our favorites although they were all outstanding. (I was very confused about a previous horrible review that stated baseball caps & shorts being worn everywhere after 6:00 pm - this was not in evidence at all on this cruise.) We did experience some rough seas which resulted in an alternative port being selected over one of the scheduled stops as the seas were too rough to take tenders in to the original port. We were very impressed with how fast they were able to come up with alternative shore excursions and we loved the one we chose (Sorrento: beautiful views, shopping, & pizza!). The tours were all very organized and impressive. Malta and Santorini were amazing. Overall, customer service was excellent, particularly in the restaurants and destination services desk. The pre-cruise hotel in Rome (Westin Excelsior) was very nice and in a very safe area (right next to the American Embassy!). Our rooms were beautiful and the Concierge Desk was extremely helpful in setting us up with a private car & driver. The only disappointment were the shows. Although they were entertaining, the level of performance was just average. The one exception was the show on the final evening call Crew Capers. This was outstanding and some of the crew members have serious talent! We had a wonderful time on this trip and are already looking to book another cruise in a couple years!! Read Less

We wanted to go through the Panama Canal. We chose this itinerary because we LOVE Regent - all inclusive, never have to swipe your card or take care of anything. Air arrangements included and taken care of. First class all the way, in shore excursions and transfer arrangements, included a pre-cruise stay at the Kimpton Epic hotel in downtown Miami. Mariner just got out of dry dock in early April, all the public areas were completely redone, and cabins received a minor face lift. It’s a beautiful ship - we were in a Concierge E level cabin, large enough to be comfortable for our 18-day leg of this cruise. Embarkation in Miami was frustrating - computers were down and they could not register us. We sat in the cruise terminal (over lunchtime, so everyone was hungry and Impatient), with little information and only cookies to eat. They finally started to bring out a few trays of sandwiches which were snapped up by the first people they passed - none for the rest of us. We were finally called up by cabin category to have them register us by hand. Not a good way to start our vacation... Our cabin was very nice, although we sailed on the new Explorer last year and this is not quite that nice. This cabin’s bathroom had only one sink, but the shower was large enough and the bathroom worked just fine for us. Ship activities were low-key as the average passenger on this line is retired and does not need on-board climbing walls and surf pools. The pool area has cushioned lounges, a warm salt pool, a couple of spa tubs, and best of all - waiter service from the bar, and an attendant who comes around to clean your sunglasses. I used the spa twice for massages - pricey but very good therapists. Food on this cruise has to be experienced to be believed. It is like dining in a fine restaurant every day. There is a buffet for breakfast and lunch, but also a white tablecloth, fine dining alternative as well. For dinner, there is the Compass Rose main dining room, complete with sommelier, wine stewards, and impeccably uniformed waiters. While there seemed to be more new staff on this sailing (perhaps because the ship just got out of dry dock) who were less experienced, I am sure that will be addressed in the days to come. We did have issues with getting water and coffee refilled, and the wait staff was evidently learning to use a new ipad type ordering system that made ordering slow and occasionally incorrect. Food was fresh, cooked to order, and we typically spent 2 1/2 to 3 hours at dinner every night - we traveled with friends and made new friends as well, so dinner conversation was interesting and lively. Disembarkation was organized and smooth, with plenty of porter help for luggage. We have signed up for a cruise on the new RSSC Splendor in 2020, and look forward to another wonderful vacation with Regent. Read Less

We chose this cruise, as we usually do, based on itinerary. We experienced an incredible bonus on the first “leg” (Auckland to Bali). It was an “Artful Travelers” cruise. This group, in cooperation with Regent and PBS and NPR, had a special program focusing on documentary film making and Broadway. There were extra speakers (all excellent), Q & A sessions, cocktail parties, special documentary screening, a wine tasting, a sumptuous dinner, excellent cabarets, small dinners with the presenters - all without an extra fee. Artful Travelers has been in existence since 2004 but came as a surprise to us. We will back for another of their programs next February. That portion of the trip included wonderful ports such as Sydney, Cairns, Komodo island, and Bali. We remained on the ship for the next segment from Bali to Hong Kong. We especially enjoyed our stops in Borneo (loved the cultural experience) and Brunei. As usual, service throughout the trip was excellent. Food is uniformly very good and often excellent. We especially liked the newly designed/decorated Compass Rose. Regent is expensive, but the experience is exceptional. Read Less

After a dozen cruises on large common cruise lines, my husband and I chose Regent. We’ve been on the 7 Seas Explorer 3 times in the past 3 years. We plan on going on another Regent cruise, they are that good. The first two were in Europe and the last one was in the Caribbean. We are in our early 60’s, fit, & seasoned travelers. All 3 of the cruises had truly excellent service in all areas. This is a main attraction along with their gourmet food. All 3 times we have had true culinary experiences in their restaurants, Prime 7 and Pacific Rim in particular. Their service and food are clearly superior to all the major large cruise lines. Although Regent is a more expensive cruise line, it’s totally worth it. Also, all of the tipping/service charges are included. For me, that’s a relief. It’s hard to figure out how they get such friendly, helpful, respectful workers but they do. All of the rooms have verandas, as well. The majority of the passengers of the 3 we were on, were probably average age of 70 - at least it seemed like it. I’d like to know the true average age. To be honest, on the first night of the first cruise I looked around the dining room and the main lobby and thought: “OMG, I am trapped in in floating nursing home.” There are a lot of slow-moving passengers using canes and walkers which is quite a contrast to some of the other cruise lines we’ve been on. Some have wheelchairs and personal assistants; but as the week went on, we realized there were a lot of advantages to being the younger ones on an older-person’s cruise. First of all, I ended up being inspired by these older, handicapped passengers who continued to enjoy life despite their difficulties with ambulation etc. Most of the time, they yield the hallway to the faster-moving passengers. They are respectful and courteous. They converse in just the right amount of pleasantries. If you wanted to talk, most had very interesting lives and stories to tell. Never even once did we see anyone drunk or causing a problem. The “active” excursions are usually small since most of the older passengers choose less energetic tours (there were only 6 of us who went on the jungle river tubing experience in Belize - which actually was rather boring and don’t recommend it but it was very personalized). The gym and spa area are practically empty (except for a few of the staff working out). I found all of this to be tremendously advantageous. A few tips: If you can’t get the excursion you want when you first book your cruise on line - check back before you leave and definitely when you get on board. People often cancel and the cruise line adds excursions. You can almost always get what you want if you are a little persistent. The excursions in Europe were really well done and totally worth going on - even if you’re not a group-tour kind of person. The tour guides know the history, culture, and geography of the area and it’s a very good learning experience. There wasn’t even one disappointing tour. It’s a little frustrating with loading up the bus with slow-moving passengers but as long as you know it ahead of time, just don’t rush back to be first on the bus. Linger at your destination and enjoy the extra time while the bus is being loaded. I could go on FOREVER about the EXCELLENT ports of call in Europe; but suffice it to say you would not be disappointed on the cruise that starts in Rome going through the Mediterranean or the cruise that starts in Athens and goes up the Aegean coast line. They were truly breathtaking & fascinating. The Caribbean excursions were not as good as the European cruise excursions; but I think it’s a reflection of the countries. The tour guides in Belize, Guatemala, and especially Honduras were somewhat disorganized and the guides had little to say on the bus which was a bit disappointing but not a huge negative. All of the Mexican ports of call, the Grand Cayman, and Key West were terrific though. For us, the Caribbean excursions took up so much time that there was little or no time left to look around the port on our own. For that reason, here’s another tip: most excursions meet in the ship theatre using a ticket system. Once you get your ticket, you meet your group out on the pier. If your excursion is a couple hours after the ship docks, you don’t have to wait around for your tour. You can go out - check out the port area - and come back for your excursion. Twice we missed an opportunity to see a port because we thought we’d have time afterwards but the shops were closed when we got back. We should have gone out before our excursion. We took excursions in Guatemala and Honduras that involved long bus rides through poverty stricken areas. I felt sad seeing all that - such that I wished I was there on a mission trip rather than as a tourist. There’s nothing anybody can do about that but something to keep in mind if seeing all that on a vacation would bother you. Book your specialty restaurant reservations early - the prime times around 7 pm go fast. The Compass Rose serves excellent food if you don’t get all the specialty reservations you want, though. No worries - you won’t have mediocre food anywhere on that ship. Remember that room service is 24/7 and they do a great job. If you want to book spa services (especially on Days at Sea) do that early too. Something else to keep in mind, the medical office has very limited services. We had an accident on one of the excursions causing large bruising and scrapes but we had to see the security officer first to determine if we were truly on a ship-sponsored excursion before they would take care of us. They didn’t do any of the wound care - they just gave us supplies to do it ourselves. For a variety of reasons, passengers are safer all-around if they stick with ship-sponsored excursions. As always when traveling, you have to really keep your wits about you. On our Regent cruise that stopped in Venice, I had my phone stolen by the port screening person as it went through the X-ray machine. I didn’t notice right away but went back in less than a minute and I got no cooperation from anyone to help me get it back. It was very upsetting. Stay at the screening place until you confirm all of your belongings are there. On the European cruises, the speaker was Terry Bishop. He’s unbelievable. He mixed knowledge, humor, and music perfectly. We looked forward to the lectures every day. The speaker series on the Caribbean cruise was terrible, though. For some reason, the cruise line decided to go political and had a speaker who discussed one side of US politics. That was very disappointing. As with all cruise lines - the daily activities sheet is important to check. There’s a LOT going on around the ship each day and it’s easy to miss out on something if you don’t check out the schedule of daily events. Their small-group bands, theatre shows, comedians, etc are all good. One night there was a party on the pool deck with the buffet & dancing under the stars that was really tremendous. Overall - this is a 5 star, sophisticated cruise line providing cultural experiences and good fun. Read Less

Introduced friend to Regent. She contacted me since her husband was out of town and she wanted to get away. I had been after them to try Regent, and this was the perfect opportunity. Regent certainly didn't disappoint. We had some concerns about the activity scheduling and one of the speakers, but other than that, Regent provides an excellent vacation. Great choice. I normally do not room with anyone, but this time I did, and because of the room layout, it made sharing a lot easier. I could only suggest that another small chair be included as the couch is very small. Our room stewards were first class. Once we had told them our schedule and likes, there was never a moment when we needed to ask a second time. The restaurants are extremely well-run and have attentive staff. I did not attend the shows as I m a very early riser and the shows are very late. Read Less

I researched the small luxury cruise market for a year. All of them. On advice from an advisor, I took a deep dive in Regent and with excursions included we concluded this was the best value proposition. Having been with Silver Sea (and loving it), the a' la carte excursions were a budget ding we didn't appreciate since they were totally uncoordinated with the boat. Explorer out of Miami for a western Caribbean 10-day ride was superb from start to finish. Could I complain about loss of the launderette for 3 days before disembarkation...sure. Could I complain about the loss of hot water on the day we returned to port...sure. Could I complain about the really lousy Wi-Fi after they touted such great reach...sure. But at $1,300/day on a beautiful boat, excellent dining at all levels, superb service, fine finishes and furniture, very good entertainment, suite attendants that fell over themselves to please and several excursions that were excellent...could I complain? Absolutely not. Several reviewers obviously have had difficult lives given the petty issues they raised. Give me a break. If that is all you have to say about a once-in-a-lifetime experience, sit in your cabin and sulk. The signature restaurants were fine but we found the Compass Rose, in many ways, better. Spacious, vast and open. If you lay out all the menus side by side, there are many resemblances...there have to be. The signature restaurants finish your orders as much is prepared in the Compass Rose. We took the kitchen tour and learned this. There were two ports where we were tendered. Takes time, rides can be rough. We chose mid-ships, deck 6, cabin 612, port side. Great choice. No to minimum engine noise, easy and fast access to disembarkation by stairs. Being up high is hype and a cost for those that don't care. Be close to the theatre, the main restaurant, the lobby and deck 4. Trust me, it is worth it. La Veranda/Sette Mari is fun particularly when you take the stern deck area for breakfast or dinner. Room service on two days was precise and as ordered. This is a great time saver on early excursion days. The pool deck is what you find on the $200/day boats. Crowded with lounges occupied all day. Eh! The excursions to the ruins were terrific even if tiring due to long bus rides but we knew this. The other typical tourist trips were disappointing but we just made the wrong choices. Regent gives you plenty options. If in doubt, ask. Joanne's on-board lectures were fine but you should never just read your slides to adults who might just be able to read as well. Enrich!!! Would we book another...absolutely but it will be a year or so. Cruising for us is special, not routine. Enjoy. Read Less

It was LA to LA, so very little flying from Las Vegas. The ship is small, but big enough, so as not to feel cramped. Our suite is always the correct size. The food is so much better than other cruise lines. We never seem to be rushed like other cruises on bigger ships with 2 dinning seating. This time the enrichment lectures were not as good as we have had before, they were only average. The service has always been excellent and this time was no different everyone is so helpful. Always smiling and asking if they can get you anything, so pleasant. We were at sea a good share of the time. The ports in Mexico are for the most part very nice. Shore excursions were varied and there was something for everyone. Sometimes it was nice to just stay on board and read a book, they had a nice selection in the library. We are already booked on the Navigator in 2019 for a northern Atlantic cruise. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to try Explorer and thought the ports ideal for us, especially with a Southampton start. We boarded and both said WOW. It really is a fantastic ship. From the artwork to the furnishings and crockery. We were 'processed' quickly at 12 noon and then to a delicious buffet lunch. Once the suites were available we unpacked and found we still had spare drawers and cupboards. The room was beautiful, super bathroom with 2 basins, separate shower and bath. Someone had commented earlier that our room (810) had a lot of teething troubles. I'm glad to say that everything had been put right, except what he described as a 50 cent hook replacing a lost one; we mentioned this to Reception and it was changed within an hour. What he failed to add was that the F2 cabin is so spacious. Crew was uniformly brilliant - always a smile. We dined twice in Prime Seven and Chartreuse, once in Sette Mari, and the rest of the time in Compass Rose. Prime Seven just about the best, Compass Rose good too, but we were never disappointed by the choice or the quality. The last dinner in Compass Rose was outstanding. Wine flowed freely, and if we were always offered a wine that was not to our taste we were immediately offered several alternatives. Cruise Critic had organised a Meet and Mingle on Day 2, and we were pleased and surprised that the Master and some senior officers joined us. This was typical of the approachability of everyone on the ship. We don't do many excursions, preferring in general to walk around the town, but those we did take were also well organised. Bilbao was outstanding, mainly because of the Guggenheim Museum, but we love Bordeaux (where we moored right in the middle of the City), Porto and Lisbon. Finally the infinity pool at the Spa deserves a mention. While my wife had a massage I took the opportunity to sit on the aft deck and use the pool as we sailed down the river out of Bordeaux. This was day 4, and I was told I was only the second person to use it - a hidden secret indeed. We can't recommend Regent enough, especially Explorer. Read Less

We sailed for 18 days from San Francisco to New York via the Panama Canal. Prior to the cruise we had a one day tour of Muir Woods and Sonoma, with lunch in Sonoma City - a lovely small town. Embarkation and disembarkation were the only disappointments, and Regent is not at fault. The 3rd party handler in San Francisco failed to provide transportation to the ship for the majority of passengers. And the New York Cruise Terminal made a two day mess of disembarkation, resulting in some passengers missing their scheduled tour of New York City. Clarifications: The ship was partially refurbished in 2014 - the lounges and dining rooms and other public areas were re-done and are very nice. The cabins and cabin hallways are tired but cabins are still comfortable. The ship will go through a complete refurbishment in 2018. Very clean ship, crew very friendly, good service. Food: Lots of food available. Much is high quality sourcing - fantastic lamb from new Zealand, milk fed veal, shrimp. Excellent bread in the formal dining rooms. Authentic spaghetti carbonara and huge delicious portion of veal schnitzel at Stelli Mari restaurant. Restaurants: In past reviews people complained about the slow service in Compass Rose. We only experienced that once and we ate their several times. Cabin: Loved the walk in shower with large rainshower head. Captain Updates: Gave us detailed updates at noon each day. Gym: Excellent high quality equipment. Fitness Manager rather pushy re trying to up sell. Self Serve Laundry: A great feature on each cabin floor. Swimming Pool: I only used it once as there are no steps going down into the pool suitable for people with mobility issues. The top step in the ladders are too far apart for my legs to reach to the deck. This problem has been resolved in the new Explorer ship. I used the jacuzzis instead. Service: I thought service was good. I'm not a smoker but my travel partner is. Smoking is limited to 3 areas of the ship. Some smokers didn't think the service re appetizers and drinks was as good as it could be. Favorite Parts of the Ship: The 11th floor covered terrace at the back of the ship for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Observation Lounge and Horizon Lounge when going through the Panama Canal and during a hurricane. Size of Ship: Perfect for accommodating around 700 passengers and 400 crew. The ship never felt crowded. Ports and Excursions: This is hurricane season with hot humid weather. Be prepared for this if you go in September. Due to bad weather we could not dock in Acapulco or Nassau. This is not the fault of the cruise line.Highlights included: Pura Vida private garden tour in Costa Rica, Cartagena Colombia Old and New Town tour (Cartagena is a hidden gem - spectacularly beautiful), post dis-embarkation tour of New York City (911 memorial is outstanding). Age Profile: Suitable for 55+. Average age likely 70-90+. Large number of people with mobility problems - may be a challenge in rough weather. Not suitable for children. Would I go again? Yes Strong Recommendation: Please do not wait until after the cruise to voice your complaints. Bring them up immediately to the crew so they can do their best to accommodate your requests. Be specific re your complaints. This cruise line is really trying to make this a memorable experience for you. Read Less

This cruise took us from Iceland, through the Faroe and Shetland Islands, to Norway, Sweden, and ending in Copenhagen. What a wonderful experience - we will find it difficult to “go back” to regular cruising. The service was outstanding, drinks were generous and ubiquitous, our cabin was so luxurious that we didn’t mind spending time in it, excursions were informative and geared to the capabilities of the “over 55” set that is the primary passenger profile. Beautiful ship with original artwork, glass sculptures, etc. Only complaint is that, since airfare is included, they make the arrangements, and you have no say in your air itinerary unless you pay a $175pp fee. Domestic airfare is coach, not what you expect for a luxury line that transports you in Business Class for overseas travel. Our next cruise leaves Miami and ends up in San Francisco - we don’t expect to have to travel coach cross-country, and the cost for upgrade is very high. The rebate if you choose not to use their airfare is not enough to cover travel cost. We do like the convenience and security of using them to book air, but wish that they would just include travel arrangements that are suitable for a luxury vacation for ALL of their cruises.. We did have to stand outside in a cold wind with slight rain, waiting to embark onto the ship. Other passengers told us that having to stand in line out in the cold (and it’s cold in Iceland even in August) was not normal. Did not like that. Hotel in Reykjavik was poor, but they are building more new ones all around. Our room was small, no A/C so we had to keep the window open even in the rain, listening to the traffic below. Mold in the shower. I suggest RSSC find a better hotel there or get the Blue to improve. Read Less

We were on the Explorer from June 3 to June 14th and had a wonderful time. The ship is stunning and the itinerary was very good. We loved our Penthouse Cabin 948 with its' fabulous bathroom! The beds are so comfortable, the room beautifully furnished, and we really liked the big balcony with sectional sofa and a table with chairs. Besides Compass Rose, where we had some trouble getting our meal and/or a server to pay attention to us (to the point where we had to leave the restaurant and find coffee and tea at another venue) we found all the restaurants truly wonderful, both with food and service. We really liked the entertainment and the Cruise Director was fabulous with a fun personality. The Ports were great; unfortunately we had some really bad weather at one tender port, Edinburgh, and had a very rough and uncomfortable tender ride. One of our last ports in Ireland - Cork/Cobh was cancelled because we could not get a tug boat escort out of Liverpool until late in the evening not leaving enough time at Cork/Cobh to allow for time at that port- we were very disappointed when that occurred. However, we enjoyed all of our excursions, but especially the Giants Causeway and Dartmouth River Cruise/Steam Train round robin. On all of our tours, the bus drivers and tour guides were helpful and informative. I especially liked the fact that we were not "jammed" into full coaches on any of our excursions making our travels more comfortable and enjoyable. Read Less

CARIBBEAN AND AMAZON ADVENTURE Seven Seas Navigator May 23-June 17, 2017 This cruise was Miami round-trip down the Amazon River to Manaus and back. It lasted 26 days and the ship was sold out months in advance. There were ten sea days necessitated by the long distances to be covered. The cruise is often offered twice a year and we opted for the May (versus November) trip because it arrives in the Amazon at the very end of the rainy season. The passengers were primarily retired seniors. There were fewer with wheelchairs and walkers due to necessity for walking in most ports in order to see the most interesting sights. At this time, the river is at a high water mark, extremely muddy and as much as 10 miles wide. The captain told us that the huge amounts of water coming down river slowed the ship down somewhat. The itinerary originally included a stop called Alter du Chao and we did not stop there. The ship’s announcements led us to believe it was due to the heavy current and the need for more time to reach Manaus however Michael Scott, the Smithsonian lecturer, showed photos of Alter du Chao which is essentially a set of white sand bars with restaurants and beach chairs like a resort and told us it was generally underwater and shut down at this time of year so anchoring off of it would have been useless. At all of the Amazon ports, we did see that the greenery we thought were water plants were actually the tops of the trees on the river islands just barely sticking up above the flood waters. On one shore excursion, it was pointed out that we were able to dock much closer to the attraction than would be possible during the dry season when visiting the rubber plantation would have involved a 2-3 kilometer walk through the jungle. The cruise was smooth for the most part. There were occasional brief rain showers which is to be expected in this area of the world. The crew diligently dried the deck and recovered the lounge chairs after these showers. Cruise preparations: You will need a Brazilian visa for this which can be obtained by filling out a form on the embassy website, obtaining a US postal money order for $160 per person and taking your passport to the embassy or using a visa service is no embassy is near. You will also need either a yellow fever inoculation or a waiver letter. Since we were both 70 or above, the local travel medicine clinic stamped the inoculation folder with a waiver stamp for us. On the advice of the travel clinic, we also purchased permethrin spray at REI and sprayed two outfits for each of us and got bug repellent as well. We never saw a mosquito during the entire trip but if everyone else did what we did, we probably traveled in a cloud of bug repellent. We also got malaria tablets with a prescription from the travel clinic and took those with absolutely no side effects. Many people covered their arms, legs, ankles, and more when they went out while we were on the Amazon which was probably a good precaution but again, bugs just seemed to be non-existent. Ship: The Navigator is the smallest ship in the fleet with 480 passengers and a crew of 360. It is cozy but generally feels uncrowded and many of the passengers said it was their favorite ship. Many of the comparable spaces on other ships in the fleet have been combined on the Navigator. For example, Coffee Connection and the Internet room share a small lounge area. The piano bar is another small area across from that and the small library adjoins them as well. One nice difference from many cruise ships is that the showroom is in the back of the ship. The ship is well maintained. All of the crew demonstrated incredible friendliness and willingness to help. This seems to be a hallmark of Regent. Cabins: The cabins are identical to other Regent ships in that most are 328 sq. ft. suites with a seating area, a balcony, a very spacious bathroom and a walk-in closet. The bed and linens were wonderful and we felt there was plenty of storage space. Our only complaint, and it was a common one, was that the thermostats in the cabins did make much difference in the temperature. We were told that heating/AC is done by blocks of cabins overall so that some passengers complained of hot cabins while others said they were freezing. Dining: The Navigator has a main dining room, the Compass Rose, identical to other Regent ships. It has open seating. There is one specialty restaurant, Prime Seven, which is a steakhouse. Prime Seven adjoins La Veranda, the breakfast/lunch buffet. The double doors between the two were often opened to provide extra seating for breakfast and lunch when the buffet was always crowded. As with other ships, La Veranda became Sette Mare, an Italian restaurant, at night. I liked the fact that there were several dishes alongside the salad bar at night that were not on the Sette Mare menu and provided more choices. Breakfast and lunch items were also available at the Pool Grill which had some incredible theme lunches on sea days. The food was wonderful no matter where you ate although by the end of 26 days, we were ready for a simple home-cooked meal again. We’d had our fill of steak and lobster. There is no pizza station on the ship although the hamburgers and hot dogs at the grill were very good. We did discover that if you wanted a dish not found on the menu, a special dessert or a complete Indian dinner for example, it was possible to make arrangements for this. Entertainment: The singers and dancers were all new on our cruise and somewhat tentative in their first production show but excellent after that when they got the butterflies out. Other entertainment included a female piano player (great talent but with a super ego that was a bit of a turn off), an impressive husband and wife classical guitar duo, a tango act and some local entertainers who came on for one night. We especially liked the group of five from Manaus who used native instruments to imitate nature sounds as part of their songs. There was only one show nightly so I would advise arriving early to get seats since the seating around the top and sides of the show room was awkward and uncomfortable bar height seating or obstructed low seating. A Smithsonian lecturer, Michael Scott, was on board the entire cruise and he gave very informative and interesting talks often on the coming ports, the wildlife and more. Since there were many sea days, this added up to a lot of talks and they were well attended. He was also often up on deck watching for wildlife to photograph and made himself available for questions. The ship offered, as many do, games on sea days which were played on deck or in a small carpeted corner on deck 9. These included shuffleboard and baggo, magnetic darts, plastic bowling pins, indoor croquet, etc. There were generally 20-25 people attending these games and hoping for some fun and merriment. Unfortunately, the staff assigned to put these games had no imagination or playfulness in putting them on and it was often 15 minutes or less before they were over. The singers and dancers were being trained to assist with the games during the last week of the cruise and hopefully they might bring some variety and innovation when using the game materials provided. Liars Club was held twice during the cruise in the top lounge, Galileo’s. Team Trivia was held nearly every afternoon at 4:30 in the Star lounge. Again, I would advise arriving very early to secure seats and form teams. Both were very well attended We arrived about 15 minutes before Liar’s Club was to start and were unable to get a seat even though extra chairs had been brought in. This cruise crosses the equator twice. Anyone who crosses becomes known as a Shellback and is supposed to be initiated by King Neptune. Some of the entertainment crew stood in for the passengers and there was a lot of laughter as they were slimed and pushed into the pool. Ports and excursions: Note: The majority of Regent shore excursions are free and well worth taking. However, few cruise ships visit the Amazon and tourist guides and sights may not be up to the level one would normally expect. Gustavia, St. Barts: Small French-speaking island. Restaurants and shopping are much higher priced than other parts of the Caribbean. We walked to the TI from the tender (the TI is located on the water about a block and a half from the dock and is not well marked). We got a map from the TI and walked around the small town to Shell Beach where we found a lot of the singers and dancers enjoying an hour of beach time. Most shops were closed during the middle of the day. Castries, St. Lucia: We took the 7 hour “Land and Sea to Soufriere” tour. We took a small van over the very winding roads of the island stopping at a small fishing village for a potty break and to stretch our feet, a viewpoint, a botanical garden and an “estate” where we had a buffet lunch of local foods and then were led on a short tour to see mock-ups of worker huts and processing of coffee beans, sugar cane and coconut like they would have been done in the past. The several vans of passengers all met at a dock to go on a catamaran (more like a ferry) for a stop along the coast for a short swim (it was twilight by this time) and then continue back to the ship. Note: This was such a long tour that the long sail back to the ship was in the dark. The boat was dimly lighted. We were served rum punch and other non-alcoholic drinks and the guides did their very best to keep us entertained by dancing to the songs playing over the loudspeaker. Everyone was quite tired by the time we were back to the ship. Half of the passengers on this tour did it in reverse – catamaran first, van back to the ship. St. George, Grenada: The ship docked on a Sunday in Grenada. We had been here before and just walked off the ship, through the car/foot traffic tunnel under the hill where the fort is, and around the small harbor. The only people we saw where several taxi drivers who stopped to ask if we would like a tour. There is very little to see around the harbor. Some passengers walked up through town to look at one of the two churches. Port of Spain, Trinidad: We took a city tour which included a botanical garden and a steel drum performance. Our guide spoke good English, was very knowledgeable and proud of her city but gave an honest description of the pluses and minuses of the area. The botanical garden was pleasant and easy walking. The steel drum concert was given by six older gentlemen at their steel drum club’s practice facility outdoors under a roof which was very handy when a sudden heavy rainstorm came through. Boca du Valeria, Brazil: After four sea days, we arrived at this small fishing village of perhaps 75 people. There were no shore excursions here because the ship tenders simply dropped passengers at the tiny dock where we were eagerly greeted. Children (who speak almost no English) mobbed the walk off the dock and quickly grabbed your hands to escort you to the right down the path through the jungle as far as you cared to walk until you turned around. There were many boys along the path with pet sloths, parrots, huge bugs and parakeets hoping you would take their photo and give them a dollar. There were adults next to small stalls selling wood carvings and jewelry made of feathers. Apparently the villagers from miles around come to greet the very few ships which stop here. Once we made it clear to our four kids that we wanted to see the village, they led us along the boards and pathway to the one-room school and adjoining one-room church. At that point, we gave them each a few dollars and had a photo taken with them and they immediately disappeared in search of more passengers. Suggestions: All of the kids eagerly accepted the chocolates left on your bed each night (they will melt once you are off the ship and be quite messy). Dollars are good. There was a small stuffed bear in our cabin and I gave it to the smallest child. I think all of the girls would have liked one. The school is very basic and welcomes any school supplies (pencils, etc. from the Dollar Store) as well as money. I had several emergency sewing kits which I gave to an old lady and to a woman who beckoned us to visit her house. This was one of the most interesting stops of the trip. If you go and wonder how they have very few possessions but have a satellite dish and tv, we were told the government provided these some years ago as a way of raising the literacy level and lowering the extremely high birth rate (it worked). Manaus, Brazil: We had a two day stop in this town of 2 million. Day one we took the Highlights of Manaus city tour to the restored Opera House (amazing), the city zoo (sad), and the indigent indian museum (small and skippable). The second day our excursion was Rubber Museum and Indian Community which included a boat trip to a mock-up of a rubber plantation from the late 1800s. The plantation was built for a movie production and now is a very educational tourist attraction. Our guide was excellent and we were able to fully understand the desperate plight of the men who became rubber-harvesting slaves and what they had to do. We also visited an indigenous indian village where we were given a performance of traditional songs and dances in a tribal meeting building. Despite the loin cloths on the men and topless grass-skirted women, the modern haircuts on the men and the somewhat embarrassed postures of the women made it clear they are very much a part of the modern world just a few miles down the river. In the evening, we took the caiman hunting excursion. Everyone is boarded onto two large riverboats which then take you across the river about 45 minutes to an area where smaller 10 person boats are waiting at a dock. The boats go off into the dark lighted only by the moon (a full moon in our case) to cruise through the tops of the trees of the flooded islands while a man in the front shines a flashlight into the foliage hoping to pick up the reflection of the caiman’s eyes. The jungle sounds around you are extraordinary. Most of the boats found no caiman because the full moon made it possible for them to see us and move away before we were close enough. One boat did catch two small caiman and brought them back to the riverboat for everyone to hold for photos. I would do this again just for the experience of floating through the dark and listening to the wildlife sounds. Santarem, Brazil: Although there were good shore excursions from Regent, we joined another couple and booked a private guide, Karim, with Big Tree Adventures. This knowledgeable, friendly and capable guide with a van and driver was worth every penny. We toured leisurely through the fish market, the fruit and vegetable market, stopped for photos of a church, had a beer at a very nice hotel with a great view of the waterfront, and then had a great fish lunch at Restaurant Piracema. Afterward, we boarded a small boat and went across the meeting of the waters (where the clear, dark water of the Rio Tapajos meets the muddy Amazon) into Maica Lake to see sloths, lizards, many birds, giant water lilies and local homes. It was one of the best days of the cruise. Parintins, Brazil: We began booking shore excursions too late to see the city during the day but were lucky to get on the Boi Bumba Folk Show excursion in the late afternoon. Passengers are taken by tender to the dock and walk across the street past the market to an air-conditioned performance venue. Go as early as possible to get the best seat. The town is famous for having the second largest Carnival-type festival in South America. Two clubs compete only for the honor of winning and annually design flamboyant costumes, floats, and dances which are presented during the last weekend of June in an outdoor stadium constructed for that purpose. We were treated to a one-hour performance indoors by one of the clubs. Singers and dancers moved in front of us for 60 full minutes. Their energy was incredible. Don’t miss this one. Devil’s Island, French Guiana: After exiting the Amazon, there is a one day stop with no shore excursions at this small, infamous island, site of the French prison depicted in the movie “Papillion”. The island is a tropical paradise of palms, birds, and monkeys. The buildings are in decay and visitors can walk wherever they like. There is one building now used as a hotel/hostel and serving some food. There are several ways to access the ruins in the center of the island, either by taking the slower but longer outer road or using the quicker path with steps. You can see the solitary confinement cells in a fairly well preserved building, others where only the lower rock walls remain, the childrens’ cemetery where the families of prison employees were buried, and more. There are very few signs. Bridgetown, Barbados: We took the “Beach Break” excursion. Guests are bussed to a long, white beach where there are pairs of lounges sharing a large umbrella to choose from. Bathrooms and changing facilities are upstairs in the beach bar which owns the lounges. The water is a beautiful shade of blue and was calm the day we were there. The water temperature was a little cool but easy to stay in. For $10, a boat would take you out to view large turtles and coral. St. John’s, Antigua: “Historical Island Drive and Beach Break” Along with our very funny local guide, we were bussed around the island hearing about the politics and culture of Antigua. We stopped at two high lookouts with ruins of English forts and then went to Nelson’s Dockyard where sailing ships were repaired and outfitted during the height of the English occupation. We were given a ticket for a rum punch or soft drink in one of the buildings which is now a bar and then taken to a beach. Despite what the Regent description said, there were bathrooms and changing facilities at the beach as well as shaded tables, a few benches and lots of sea grape trees which provided shade as well. San Juan, Puerto Rico: We did the Rainforest Nature Walk. This is a long excursion to El Yunque National Park, the only rainforest in the US National Park system. It’s about 1 ½ hours from the port. There was a stop at the visitor’s center with a movie, a waterfall photo, a pool built by the CCC, and a tower to climb for a view. The nature walk in our tour was very short down some steps, around a picnic shelter and back again and had no “nature” to see. I understand that other tours actually did have a walk on a path so which guide you get makes a difference. The ride back to the ship was during rush hour and San Juan has very clogged streets so it took even longer than the ride to the forest. Our guide had brought along a bags of chips, water and beer which were much appreciated since we had been gone a very long time and dinner had started by the time we returned. Read Less

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful Mediterranean cruise on the RSS Explorer, it certainly lived up to all expectations and even surpassed some. The suite we had chosen (Concierge) was perfect, very comfortable bed, good sized suite with an exceptional balcony, lovely bathroom nice amenities and a perfect walk in closet and a well-stocked mini-bar, enjoying my G&T on the balcony each evening. Dining on board was a delight, we dined at all the restaurants on board, our favourites were Sette Mari at La Veranda and Prime7 and overall we had wonderful meals at every restaurant we dined at with lovely wines. I also liked very much the fact that as with some lines they have formal nights (Black Tie) with RSSC it is smart casual. Excursions - varied from okay to excellent. The only criticism about the excursions was the time they started, the majority of the excursions began at 08:00-08:15 am. This was far too early. The ideal start time I believe would have been 09:15 allowing for time to begin the day and have some breakfast. One area I particularly liked was the café area where it was a relaxed and great place to grab a snack or drink. The ship never felt full of passengers, never having to queue at the pool grill at lunch time, plenty of areas to sit on the top decks and always attentive service from the friendly international staff. The cruise is certainly geared towards the American market though we were pleased there was Sky and BBC World news on the TV for the European passengers, and three UK papers in the library printed daily, good touch. The Wi-Fi is patchy to say the least and annoying to keep logging in every time you leave the ship. Yes there are a few areas you could complain about, such as the water served at tea time in the observation lounge could be hotter, or the WI-FI to be improved but these are minor complaints. Once you see what is included compared to other cruise lines this surpasses many. Pros - Mostly everything Cons – Early excursions Overall I would highly recommend a cruise with RSS, this being our first cruise we are already planning in a few years to save up for a future cruise sailing to Canada/New England and will no doubt book with RSSC. This was our 3rd cruise on the Spirit. The first was for an anniversary 10 years ago - October 2006. We have made Oct 2016-Oct 2017 and anniversary year. The cruise was from Hong Kong to Beijing with stops in Japan and Korea. We had booked our own Air to Hong Kong but had problems finding a reasonable Business Class fare for the return. We checked with Regent and they were able to come up with a great fare and a much better routing then we were able to find. As we had booked a post cruise tour in Beijing Regent supplied the transfers to the airport on our day of departure. My preference has been to handle our air arrangements but this experience will have me checking with the cruise line for their airfares and schedules. Although , like many people who have cruised on Regent before its sales, the ship and the service is not quite like on our first cruise. However, Regent is still a 5 star cruise line with excellent service. Embarking or debarking in Hong Kong is an experience like no other. The cruise ship terminal is connected to a very, very upscale mall (Harbor Mall). You can not board or leave the ship without going through this mall. Keep hold of you wallets as the stores are extremely expensive. Keep in mind that this is a small ship - about 640 passengers, so getting around the ship, disembarking and accessing the dining venues about is fairly easy. From overheard conversations plus our own experience, the excursions were enjoyed by most of those who went. Regent, like many cruise lines, indicates the fitness level for each excursion. Note however that in some cases these were incorrect. One stop had many steps which made it difficult for a number of those with mobility issues. The had difficulty or could not manage the steps. This is not necessarily the fault of Regent, but those with mobility problems should keep in mind that they mnay have unexpected problems. One friend, on another cruise, was ashore with his walker and broke a wheel on the cobble stone street he was walking on. He had to purchase a new walker as no one had a replacement wheel. Excursions are included in Regent's rates. Note: we did not make use of the fitness center. If one includes the daily Trivia contest as recreation, the it was better then the listing below. this site should allow for a N/A-Not applicable One thing that is important to my wife is a bathtub. All of the ships accept the recently launched Muse have tubs. Looks like we will not be sailing on the Muse. We have sailed with Regent a number of times and itinerary permitting, will do so again. This was a wonderful cruise. The first leg from Buenos Aires to Rio was port intensive with one sea day and a mix of cities and small seaside towns. The second leg had more sea days and took us on a journey up one of the world'd great rivers, with destinations including cities Manaus and Santarem, a beach town, a fishing village and Parantins. March is Amazon rainy season and it rained! Rio and Manaus were highlights with a good variety of shore excursions and an overnight in each. After the Amazon we visited Devil's island, Barbados, St Lucia and San Juan, all beautiful destinations. Such a varied itinerary is only possible on a small/medium sized cruise ship and I would recommend it. The ship was well managed, the best I have experienced. Captain and senior managers were very visible about the ship and the crew well trained and extremely pleasant while giving exceptional service. I appreciated the detail given in the Captain's daily update. Shore excursions were included in the price and made the trip. They included bus tours for the less able and more adventurous options for more energetic passengers such as bike tours, treks, swimming and snorkelling, 4 wheel drives and zip lines. Some of the most attractive were sold out before we could select them. Sometimes there was time to complete an early tour and walk or taxi into town later. We did this a few times and recommend it, particularly in Manaus where the city tour didn't fit with the times of the other tours we wanted; it was an easy 15-20 minute walk through vibrant shopping streets up to the opera house area. San Juan definitely merits a visit, however fleeting. 4 wheel drives in Rio and St Lucia were great fun offering off the beaten track views. Our suite was comfortable, kept very clean by our two stewards, who also delivered ice, fruit, champagne etc when asked. The food on board was exceptional, in all venues, with Signatures the best overall. Entertainment was varied with more of a focus on popular than classical music. The talks were well attended and most were very interesting. In my opinion organised activities were the weak point as with other 'American' ships we've travelled on. Deck sport tournaments were non-existent replaced with mini competitions that were cancelled at the slightest drop of rain. We met many people who wanted to try deck tennis and shuffleboard, but didn't know how to play. As a result we had our own private court at the back of this ship and played almost daily. This aspect of the ship needs a radical shake up. Dancers, nice as they all were, didn't make good sports hosts. Active passengers need a variety of ways to keep fit in and outdoors. There were dance classes, but no sports classes. Why? There was induction to the gym but no induction to deck sports. Why? Also, there was no art programme on the ship, just a colouring class and craft class managed by a hostess. This is a cheap option out of step with the luxury of the Regent offering. Not good enough for the proportion of people who enjoy art. Quite a few people we met said they'd found sea days boring. That's not good for Regent. The Mariner was due for a refit which has been postponed for a year. It needs it. However, it was well maintained, extremely comfortable and exceptionally clean; it didn't affect our enjoyment of this cruise at all, in fact there is probably more deck space on these older ships. Overall I loved it and recommend this trip. However for a long trip e.g. world, half-world or extended period of time I wouldn't recommend Regent unless you are a particularly sedentary cruiser. i have just spent 16 days on a central america cruise i am an experienced cruiser the ship is superb the captain handled the ship brilliantly in a 79 uno gale the food has improved the wifi is good most of the time the staffer exceptionally helpful the quality of the wines has improved considerably the shows were very good but we need more of them agreeable fellow passengers nothing was too much trouble for the crew the destinations were good in costa rica and mexico and san diego but the san diego tour guide/driver was not too good the magnificence of the ship was better than some of the top hotels in the world the swimming pool was the biggest we have seen on a ship of this size and it was very easy to enter and exit the room stewardesses kept the room immaculate and decorated it for my wife birthday champagne was in abundance Read Less

At this writing we are still onboard our second leg of a 30 day back to back. This ship is beautiful. I like the dark panels opposite the white so that it doesn't seem gloomy. I love my blue carpet in my concierge room and the double sinks with tub and shower. Since I use the tub almost every day, it is a necessity for me. The penthouse suites have no tub. We brought our night light for bathroom and are glad we did. There is a nightlight you can turn on from the bedside which is in the hallway outside the bath, but it is very bright! The staff service has been very good, some off days, but not frequently. We have two speakers on this transatlantic. The food is outstanding! My least favorite is at Chartruese but everywhere else has been great. They have varying buffets on sea days from Greek to German to bar-b-que. All shows, with only 1 exception since we boarded, are at 9:30 pm. Last night was the only 6 pm showtime, which was packed. Dancers and singers are excellent, but other entertainment has been about the same as always on a ship. (Note we have sailed over 100 times so this is old hat to us). The first leg was back to back ports with good excursions. Now we have 8 sea days. I would say you need to be a reader to enjoy those days as there is not a lot to do. (Lectures, one trivia quiz all day, cooking demos. NO movies, except in room) Ship has a good gym which hasn't had much use on these cruises. Very small gym class area, but hasn't been packed anyway. Having cruised with Silverseas on other trips I was a little apprehensive that no other could match their comfort, service and cuisine. After 14 days aboard Explorer I had no such reservations. 1. Although a larger vessel, the efficiency of embarking/disembarking for excursions was excellent and the ship rarely felt crowded, except perhaps the popularity of Sette Mare restaurant; 2. Suites (Concierge) were well laid out, perfectly comfortable and very well appointed - reading lights and coffee machine ++; 3. All the restaurants excelled with the specialty ones worthy of a Michelin star, and not too difficult to get a table, particularly for dining later; 6. Included wifi and excursions were what finally decided me in favour of Explorer and sets the standard now for other cruise lines; 7. It seemed that every time we left the suite an attendant would materialise and magically make beds, change towels, tidy, clean and replace items. Cannot recommend highly enough. We will return! Well organized embarkation and good excursions, friendly and very helpful staff, excellent entertainment--something for everyone, food was very good, better in Signature and Prime Restaurants, but also good in Compass Rose. Loved the layout of the pool deck area, comfortable and very clean. There are several cocktail lounges and coffee bars, plus library with puzzles and games and a fun casino, I shared a concierge level suite which pleasantly surprised us--a little dated decor, but there was room for everything. larger than expected bathroom with all the amenities.You can stretch out on the sitting area sofa if you like. Really nice cabin stewards . The only issue that was a bit rough was poor internet and wifi service. This service should be free and the plans they offer are expensive. We were very impressed how well organized at the entire journey was. I want to travel on at the Mariner again when it is refitted later this year. Read Less

We have been on all of Regent's ships and had wanted to do this itinerary in the past, but dates and pricing never lined up. We were very pleased to be able to do back-to-back 10 day cruises through the British Isles and over to France and Spain. The ship is very comfortable, but the staff is the best reason to sail with Regent. Every member of the crew is just as hospitable and friendly as possible. They couldn't be better. We really enjoyed this itinerary and particularly Mont St. Michel, Cork, Bordeaux. Every stop had something memorable, though. We went on excursions most days, but sometimes just took the ship-provided shuttle into town and wandered. Some excursions were much more than we expected. In Belfast, for example, we went on a tour that included the Titanic Museum. That wasn't very impressive. However, a tour of the dry dock was fantastic - largely due to a guide who was part historian, part actress and totally enthusiastic. The Blarney Castle was interesting, but you really should be prepared. The Blarney Stone is at the top of the castle and to kiss it you have to be on your back and leaning over the edge - not a good plan for older folks. The stairway up is quite a challenge. It's steep and, in several places, both of my shoulders touched the walls and I'm not overly large. It was quite strenuous for anyone with mobility issues. In Torre Lorizags, we saw an incredible collection of mint-condition Rolls Royces. You have to see to believe. Really fantastic. While in Southhampton for a day at the mid-point of the cruise, we took a personal tour to Winchester. Winchester College and Winchester Cathedral are both incredible. Finally, our favorite stop was Alnwick Castle. Parts of Harry Potter were filmed there and two Christmas specials of Downton Abbey were filmed in this castle, which remains an active home for the Lord and Lady. It is truly spectacular. Lecturers from the Smithsonian Institute really enhanced all of the ports. Food and service were superb, as always. You just can't go wrong on a Regent Cruise. Read Less

Regent Seven Seas on the Mariner cruise from Vancouver to Seward,Alaska was outstanding--could not ask for more! We ( six young seniors) took the Regent Seven Seas from Vancouver to Seward, Alaska! Must say the staff and crew are there to ensure you have great time. They literately do not say “no” to your requests! Ship: It was the right size for the 700 passengers-- never felt crowds or any lines. Regent is very organized loading and offloading passengers from and onto the ship. During offloads, they have someone at every corner to ensure you get where you want to be. That includes Canada and US customs on going at the same time! The ship is very good conditions. Saw a prior write up of wear. But we did not see any wear at all. Very clean and well kept ship. Cabin: Excellent! Just as the description in all the brochures. Spotless-very clean, well-supplied with everything to include a fresh fruit bowl every day. All items well stocked continuously. Even our liquor needs were provided as required. Dining: Excellent! The Prime 7 and Signature restaurants match or are better than any top restaurant in Dallas, TX. Shame we could only eat there once each. The other two restaurants are very- very good. At times, they serve the same food prepared for Prime 7 or Signature. The service was outstanding and very friendly -always had someone ready to provide service to your table. We never had a problem getting a table for our six travelers. Breakfast was a large buffet that also had a grill for eggs, cooked the way you wanted. There is even a coffee bar for those early risers. Services: Cannot say enough of the very friendly and supportive crew and staff. They answered every question we asked or took you to someone who could. There is a daily newspaper and TV broadcast of all activities and events and instructions on how to do “everything! Point of examples: (1) First night – ask for whisky and vodka for our suite—they brought us a large bottle (fifth) of each to the cabin! (2) Our group of 6 travelers wanted a quite dinner –so we requested room service for the food for all of us in one of the penthouse suites. The staff brought us menus and took our special requests and delivered it all on time! We had a great time feasting, drinking and telling ole stories! Port and excursions: All port and excursions were very organized and well executed. Never were in any crowds or waiting lines. All the excursions we were on were highly enjoyable with every experienced and educated staff and leads. We will go again--- and again! Read Less

There is cost and value for money. Whilst not cheap, we believe RSS cruises are excellent value for money and our pick of choice if the destinations are right. We have been on several other cruises with Seabourn and Silversea. The voyager has up to 700 passengers and mainly balcony cabins. It is to have a refit later this year being 13 yrs old but seemed to us to be generally very acceptable with maintenance work on the go outside and inside all the time. Our 'suite' on deck ten a few doors from the bridge (concierge D) was fine with a comfortable bed and a temper pillow provided. A good shower and walk in wardrobe plus adequate living space. Also very quiet - we have booked the same cabin for next summer. There are four restaurants all of good quality. Signatures and Prime 7 are those you book once beforehand, but we found several visits possible by going for a late booking or on spec for a no show. Our favourite is Signatures (French). Compass Rose excellent but slower service than previously (?NCL cutbacks?).Sitting outside the Italian restaurant was a great treat in the (very) warm weather we had. We do not dine in the suite but occasional snack or breakfast room service was prompt and served with a smile - as was the daily phone call for early morning tea. Pool deck lunches were very good with many international themes. The staff do 3 excellent entertainments in the form of a 'garden party' on the pool deck, a wonderful bbq with ice sculptures, and 'KREW Kapers" on stage on the last night. We enjoyed the visiting entertainers but are less impressed personally by the very repeatable Jean Ann Ryan group - you could be on any of the boats on any cruise and not know which, when they are doing the dance and aerial regimes - time for something different, but we were happy to linger over a meal of sit outside the bar some evenings instead. The Regent 8 piece band was versatile and excellent and all the music by the singing keyboard duo, pianist and guitar were of high standard. there was no shortage of venues for music throughout the afternoon and evening. Crew are friendly and service very good. Several members of staff recognised us from previous RSS cruises on other boats! Shore excursions which are in with the cruise price were of good quality with , to be fair, some guides of variable English speaking quality. The two best dictions were by female guides in Kuala Lumpur and Mumbai. The flights were Emirates business class and a bonus was the direct flight from/to Manchester to Dubai without the hell of going through LHR! We had three days land programme in Singapore staying at the excellent Fullerton hotel near the marina. There were two well structured half day excursions and an evening meal visit to the Marina Sands Floor 54 restaurant for a memorable eating experience. This cruise gave us chance to see S E Asia in parts we have not been to - it did not disappoint. We shall return to see more of the area - and we shall be happy to travel again with Regent. Indeed we are going transatlantic with them in November on the new ship. Our minor hopes for change - a teapot for early morning tea rather than a thermos; the ice cream remaining open after 4pm on pool deck by making it available in the pool bar; advance warning of events like the deck bbq so you do not book something else (or have to cancel something else) that night! We have cruised on various other cruise lines starting in 1976. The Regent Paul Gauguin 2x was a past similar experience for us. The Dining Rooms - Compass Rose, Prime 7, and Sette Mari have tasty menus, food and excellent service staffs. The Patio Grill at noontime biggest shortcoming is the lack of ice to cool salads with mayo and other non heat resistant dressings and contents sitting out in the open sun without being cooled by ice. The Island Excursions for the most part consisting of riding up one steep hill and down another. SAt. Bart's is over hyped . Also, this can be said of the remaining Isles. The Amazon River stops at the small villages at which the residents live with Sloths, Monkeys and Rats as pets. The opera House at Manaus is not to be missed. Most of the tourist items for sale in the amazon region are prohibited from entry into the US. Also, the Piranha fishing and Boi Bumba trips are lots of fun. The on board entertain consists of a resident song and dance troupe (Jean Ryan) from Miami and various comedy acts billed as "Direct from Las Vegas". The Pool Bar on Deck 10 has impecable service and a never ending selection of drinks. The pre-cruise hotel stay at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables had the most comfortable bed I ever slept on and the Breakfast Buffet silky scrambled eggs were the best I ever have tasted. Read Less

We have just completed a 25 day cruise from Lisbon to Cape Town and we enjoyed every moment. The staff were amazing catering to our every need. Smiles all around and a willingness to please. In general, there is always a great deal of criticism about the food on board ships but really, I found nothing wrong with anything served on this trip. We have cruised often and I know that regular cruisers have high expectations and can be infuriatingly demanding. In fact we had a few of those on board and you can see how they carry their misery on their faces. Born to complain that's what I say. There is always a bit of boredom with food, especially after a long cruise but to my mind, Seven Seas Mariner catered perfectly. The entertainment was fabulous and the dancers so friendly spending time with the guests. Marla, the social hostess whom we met on another cruise ship years before was a blessing making us feel even more at home. Having full free Wi-Fi access was another added on board pleasure. Yes, we will most definitely be back and thank you for a really great holiday. Read Less
