We booked this as a last minute decision and before reading reviews on here, we may not have booked had we read reviews first but we found that MSC were excellent to deal with and had a wonderful time. Embarkation- is very efficient and as they have no set start port for the Cruise there are people embarking at every port of the Cruise meaning there is far fewer at each port in the queue. Crew/Staff- were top notch, despite the fact that there were very few English speaking passengers on board we never met a crew member that could not speak English, they were super helpful and always courteous. Facilities- there were so many things to do onboard for both adults and kids that there was never a danger of boredom, everything from multiple pools and jacuzzis to a State of the Art gym, video games, football pitch, table tennis, and a squash court. There is also a Hair salon, Spa and other pampering available at an extra cost. There is a Casino, a Sports Bar along with plenty of Cafes, Bars, Restaurants and Ice Cream Counters. Excursions- are available at an extra cost, these can be quite expensive especially if you are booking for four but having done both official and self-organised excursions there is not a huge cost saving in the difference but the self-organised tours allows for flexibility such as choosing the time slot for climbing the Tower of Pisa. NB* please note that tickets to go up the Leaning Tower of Pisa are NOT included in that tour and you NEED to book in advance to ensure you get to go up as it is super busy and limited in numbers allowed. Dining- This was one worry we had but we could not have been more impressed, there was a different and varied dinner menu each night in the Red Velvet Restaurant, you could also go there for breakfast and lunch or you could go to the Zanzibar Buffet on deck 14 which opened 18-20 hours per day. The buffet however didn't have food between 17.00 & 18.30 due to the crew partaking in the daily Emergency Evacuation Exercise for new passengers which we found was a strange time to close the food part? The food was always top quality in the A La Carte Red Velvet and while there was a huge choice in the Zanzibar some of the food was tepid if it had been out for more than a couple of minutes. Passengers- Mainly Italian, French, Spanish & German but with a good sprinkling of other nationalities. One drawback that I must mention as it can colour the judgement / enjoyment of some people is that we found that passengers of certain nationalities appear incredibly rude in terms of an inability to queue in an orderly fashion, an unwillingness to give way while passing in tight spaces and even common courtesy of thanking you for holding a door open for them. I had to ask passengers at one of the shows to be quiet as they insisted on talking their way through the show so loudly that everyone within 30m could hear their conversation and none of the show. The ship despite being 11 years old was in great condition and huge efforts were made to keep it looking well so overall we could not fault MSC in any way, indeed we were so impressed we have booked with MSC on their new ship the MSC Grandiosa for next year. Working in the Hospitality Industry for over 20 years and also been an officer at the Hotel Department for many other cruise lines, been a Travel Agent well traveled and used to from budget to luxury experiences, having an Experience on the MSC Fantasia in one of their great Yacht Club Suites was something amazing. A part for those who are always trying to get advantage of the Greatest Hospitality that the Cruise Line Industry try to strive giving their best, having the experience at the Yacht Club on the MSC Seaview was superb. Besides the Hostess Concierge Anna and the Future Cruise Consultant Flavia have made the cruise even more special. Even the theater was not one of those gigantic ones, the artists and performances caught all our attention and we were thrilled. The only disappointing item that, coming from RCCL, PCL, DCL is the food quality that really left us behind the expectation. we rarely say steaks and shrimps. The risotto had regular jasmine rice on it and not arborio as Italians are used to. This thing does not bring down all excitement we have had onboard. Congratulations. TfT Read Less

My C/L and i are from Canada and joined Fantasia ship in Barcelona for a 7 day cruise. It was our first cruise ever! On a scale from one to ten, our trip was a 10! Everything is so well organised it was amazing! We were both so impressed by the service offered by staff in making sure everything was perfect! Our cabin was very clean and a good size! Very happy to have piced a balcony stateroom. We had picked our daily escursion on line prior to doing it on the boat. Im very happy we did that. This saved us money and valuable time that we did not spend in lineups to be told that most cruises were full. We picked 6 cruises out of our 7 days on the boat. I would not change anything in that decision. The excursions were great, well organised and very comfortable on very comfortable motorcouchs. We also felt safer to book true MSC rather than local offers from various vendors who also offers different deals. We preferred to play safe and make sure to get back on the ship on time. Several passengers we talked to did not take any esscursions, prefering just walking of the ship and do their own thing. The food was very good a every meals. We had our daily breakfast in the cafeteria. Great choices and food was good. We went at every night in the dining room with assigned sears. This was great and very good food. The rooms were cleaned twice a day. We were too tired at night for any nightlife on the boat. We did not attend any shows other than one night. It was however very nice. Overall, we were pleases and return on this ship on a heart beat! And chage nothing. The only 2 things we can caution people is the dink package and the smoking on the boat. First, before and when we got on the boat we had read about this package and it was not clear what we were alowed to have free of charge and not. Well it tourns out that we were not allowed much. We ended up buying a drink package unlimited for both. We did not regret at all, altough i dont drink alcohol, my wife had all kinds of drinks, different very good coffee and we could have unlimited bottle water for our excursions. I would read more about it when you book and pick what package you prefer. On the boat, we paid 209 euro each for unlimited for our 7 day cruise. We felt we did not loose any money in this deal. The part of smoking is the one i could not get used to it! There are designated areas for smokers which i support 100% but we saw on several occasions that people would smoke were they felt like it. You cant smoke on your balcony for safety reasons of coyrse but everyday, we had hashs fron higher balconys fall on our balcony. We heard several people complaining about it but nothing seemed to change. That was our only negative for our trip. We will go back on this boat and will go back. Read Less

I was very apprehensive about this cruise after reading the reviews, I was totally blown away from start to finish. We are a couple in 50's, who have traveled a lot. We did a cruise 6 years ago with P & O and I cried the first week I hated everything about it ! Embarkation was so smooth and easy it was a joy !!! Friendly staff to greet us, welcome drink on arrival and a real WOW factor - just like a movie set with the glitz and glamour The Cabin was just what i was expecting, clean to a high standard and twice a day, large comfortable bed and the choice of pillows. Mini bar was not included in our room but it made no difference as i just went an got a drink when getting ready. Balcony was a good size 2 chairs and a table, don't need anything else. Food, again i was shocked after reading the reviews on here, we ate at the Red Velvet every night, yes it is small portions but it is ala carte, so i wouldn't expect anything else. The food itself was presented well and tasted great, there is a choice of starters, main and dessert. Even the table wine was good. We didn't try the buffet for dinner, we did pop in there for lunch, but it wasn't our thing. Breakfast again at the Red Velvet was extremely good, you have the option of buffet or table service. The level of service in the Red Velvet was incredible, they could not do enough for you. I ordered 2 desserts every night and extra potatoes, they never questioned it or pulled a face, these guys worked really hard and enhanced our dinning experience. We bought the all inclusive drinks package and it was well worth it, we added up everything at the end and it would have easily been double the amount We didn't do any MSC excursions, we did our own thing, again it was a straight forward process to disembark daily, no long queues. Cannes Don't worry about getting a ticket from level 7, go straight to level 4 and board the tender. There is a petit train if you wanted, but we wandered freely. Palma Straight forward, get of the cruise ship and catch the local bus from outside the port, it takes you straight to town. Barcelona. Again, catch the local bus from outside the port, a few minutes and you are in town. Corsica My favorite place, its just a stroll into the town, great place for wine and food Rome We did this ourselves through a cruise excursions it was half the price of MSC and had a full day here, just wandering around. Pisa We took a taxi from the port the train station 15 euros and had booked train tickets to Pisa before we left, the train was great, i think it cost us around 35 Euros return in first class. Not much there but at least i can say i have been. Genoa This is where we started our cruise, so didn't have any time to look round. Disembarkation, again a doddle, it was really smooth, the suitcases were collected in the evening, we collected from outside the ship went straight onto a coach and then at the airport. Entertainment was ok, better than P & O but bearing in mind they have to cater for at least 6 different languages it must be hard to please everyone. All in all, i am the hardest person to please, i have no complaints about MSC cruise , all i can say is I WILL BE DOING IT AGAIN. Read Less

It was more than we expected. The ship was nice, clean, comfortable. Cabin with balcony was great, spacious, perfect for 2 people, bed was comfortable. Maid service amazing - nice and clean. The staff so polite, greeting every time we are out or in... nice chat and very good English and other languages. - Dining great - buffet lots of choice of food... very tasty and various options, the restaurant Red Velvet, great meal, decent portions just enough for not over eating... (not sure why other people complaining on food here, but for us it was highlight) - entertainment great - haven't had much time to enjoy due to other activities onshore, but it felt like all-inclusive deals and entertainment in Cuba, Mexico etc... 5* resorts - Service - great - depends what you are expecting - have to adapt to other culture - it helped us having European background and knowing several languages. This is what gives a vibe to this cruise line, temper, life, various cultures.... - great itinerary - loved it all - we booked few excursions thru cruiseline and some on our own - did lots of research and prepared ourselves for every single port and place - 3 days in Rome prior to embarkation - was great idea - booked cute place in Monte area... walked everywhere and had few excursions... - Used train from Termini station to go to the port - so easy and cheap 5 euros vs. 150 euros with taxi - friendly people in Rome everyone speaks English, but it's good to know phrases in Italian, words etc it helps getting around - we had it all handy as there was no WiFi available all the time to search on Internet - La Spezia - took excursion to Cinqa Terre - it was Ok, but not what we expected - ended too early in last village, so we abandon the group and did the rest of exploring by ourselves - took train back to Riomaggore (only 4 stations from last village for 4 euros) stayed there whole afternoon swimming, sightseeing etc.) - returned to the port via train only 1 stop... and managed to be ahead of time on the ship - Genova - no need for excursion - did all walking and exploring ourselves - had book ready and information on the city - French Riviera - great excursion, but surprised as we haven't stopped in Nice just drove through, but Monaco was great.. managed to come on time when guards are changing.. had plenty of time on own... same in Monte Carlo and Cannes too... - Barselona - great excursion - booked on our own - had to find a way to come to Gaudi park... but had no problem - Sagrada de Familija great tour and had still few hours to spend on our own... - Palma de Majorca - great place - used public transportation - spend only 1.5 euros for bus ticket to get you to any beaches on the island.... enjoyed whole day there and returned to the main square had tapas and sangria on special for 24.00 euros for 2 people.. - Ajjacio (Corsica) - what cute place - again spent time on one of the coolest beach, enjoyed the sightseeing later on - easy to get oriented - not so many people speaks English, have some knowledge of French - we were ready for it at any of these places - Disembarkation was so smooth and easy - luggage easy found... returned to Rome same way with train....spent another day... touring Vatican and continue our holiday to Croatia... Fantastic experience with MSC and would recommend to anyone. Thank you to the hard working staff - great job Read Less

Just returned from a Med cruise on the MSC Fantasia. We are seasoned cruisers and have never cruised with MSC before . Embarkation and disembarkation was very well organised . No problems with this at all . Ship is beautiful, yes, there are a few places that require refurbishment but does not detract from the aesthetics of the ship . (Fantasia being refurbished next year) Balcony room - 10174 The biggest we have had and always kept clean and tidy by cabin attendant Jean Bernard . Restaurant and food was exceptional, much better than RCI and Princess . Bars were excellent and with the Fantasia drinks package made things much easier . It would have cost us £1000 if we had not paid for this . Sandwiches, cakes , ice cream all free . Absolutely fantastic . Itinerary was another plus point except for Genoa which was very dirty and not much to see . We did not have a problem with people getting on and off at different ports and found the ship not as busy . Pool areas and sun beds were never a problem. No fighting for a sun bed even in high season.! Entertainment was disappointing as used to grand theatre shows but they did try ! I cannot say enough about this cruise and can only say you will not be disappointed . We enjoyed ourselves so much that we are looking to book for next year ! Price and standards are superb . Think other cruise lines could learn a thing from MSC . RCI =sky high prices that mere mortals cannot afford !! Read Less

We choose this 'cruise because it was good value. We flew to Barcelona and everything was very organised on board - from the first day to the final day we laughed, had fun, made friends and both my friends and I would love to go on another cruise. Our room on board was lovely - especially our balcony. The offshore places we visited were interesting and we had plenty of time to visit places of interest. We visited Majorca, Marseille, Genoa.. Dining is a problem as I definitely put on half a stone as the food was excellent. If you did not want to eat formally there was a huge buffet upstairs where you could pick and choose what you liked. We lovely the entertainment. I visited the casino which was great fun.so long as you are reasonably sensible. We eventually got back to Barcelona and all three of us said we would go on a Cruise again. It was really enjoyable. The staff were fantastic - I just wish I could remember all the names to say a special thank you to them. Our head waiter was from Bali - he was super.= The ship we sailed on was the PREZIOSA. AND not the Fantasia as indicated above. That name went in by mistake. Read Less

This is not going to be long winded but I feel the need to voice my opinion which is absolutely POSITIVE...not always shared by MSC cruisers on CC. How you rate your cruise often depends on expectations and attitude to dealing with any shortfall. You choose your cruise, you pay for it, you pack, you go. Remember though to have a good time and this is impossible if you are going to grumble because " on ...... you didn't have to pay for water at dinner " or " on ..... coffee was served after the meal ". Every cruise line does things differently, if you have a 'must have' list check it out with your cruise consultant/cruise line before booking...most questions are answered somewhere online and once onboard focus on the positives as usually there is no turning back once you've sailed! MSC is very affordable as cruises go, the ships are attractive, stylish ( Italian!), cabins are comfortable and the space well organised. On our transatlantic voyage service was very good all over the ship, crew were most pleasant and ready to interact with guests, food was abundant, varied and palatable. The whole ship was spotlessly clean. Although coffee wasn't served in the main dining room after dinner ( we knew beforehand} an excellent Italian coffee can be found in most of the bars. Evening entertainment was also varied and enjoyable and during the sea days we were never bored: stretching, aerobics, tai chi, handicraft classes, dancing classes, quizes, lectures, tennis, squash, cards, library, board games, pools, jacuzzis, table tennis, table football.... There was a dedicated guests relations consultant for English speaking passengers who could be contacted either in person or by phone for any queries ( rather than using the reception desk ). The Master Stefano Aiello would make daily announcements regarding our navigation across the Atlantic and was often to be seen walking through the ship greeting passengers and having a chat. We had a thoroughly good time, feel we got excellent value for money and will definitely be cruising MSC again. Read Less

This was the best itinerary for the time of the year for us. The best part was unpacking once, and our floating 5 Star Hotel followed us around the Mediterranean as we departed Genoa, and visited the most amazing places, including Marseilles. Barcelona, Malta, Crete, Corfu Greece and Rome! The food, was consistently excellent; and I certainly recommend the option of having your breakfast served in your cabin; cant beat having croissants and coffee on your balcony watching a sunrise - an unforgettable experience! The entertainment crew were great, with different shows day and night to thrill us! The waitrons were exceptional, with excellent manner and service! Another 'win' was the fantastic organisation of disembarking at every port; nothing was rushed; little queues, and well synchronised timing. The constant maintenance and 'cleaning' was also nice to see; never did I see idle crew members; everyone had a job and purpose and they just got on with it! This was my second MSC Cruise; and we have already booked for another in March 2018! Well done to everyone involved, both on and off shore for great organisational skills and a passion for duty:) See you soon ! Read Less

We chose this particular cruise as it was the one that best suited our time frame. Not too short but just long enough to get what was needed. We planned a two day hotel stay beforehand in Barcelona (this turned out to be one day due to flight cancellation). That being said we found a little gem of a hotel (Wilson's boutique hotel). The hotel was great, shaped like the Flatiron building in NYC. We had a family room at the tip of the building and it was really excellent and very comfortable. I have read reviews about embarkation being like cattle at the sales ring, but we kept to our allotted check in time and everything was perfect. We had the Aurea package booked so we had priority boarding and luggage was priority as well. Even though we had this it didn't really matter as there was so few people around when we arrived, the staff gave us super attention. I'd say from the taxi to the cabin took twenty minutes. That's impressive no matter what you a trying to achieve as a company. The ship came into service in 2008 and I've read reviews about the ship being tired looking and so on. I'm biased as this was our first time but we found the ship to be excellent. The ship was being painted when we boarded and on the inside there were people replacing carpets and soft furnishings, so maybe it is a little tired around the edges but that doesn't stop the ship presenting itself to an impeccable standard. The ship is SPOTLESS from the public areas, cabins, food areas, shops, bars, outside decks, spa, everywhere is spotless and I've had this confirmed by my wife who is a fully certified clean freak. The ship is very well laid out and has the right mixture of old and new charms to cater for all tastes and styles of all the different cultures that were onboard. Our cabin was excellent and more spacious that we would have thought before hand. The cabin attendant serviced the room twice a day and if we needed extra towels etc. there was no problems with anything we needed. Our cabin was slightly bigger than most of the balcony cabins onboard this was due to the Aurea package that I mentioned earlier. The cabin was on deck 12 an toward the bow of the ship. We had excellent views from our balcony and the balcony was washed down at least twice during the cruise. There was more than enough wardrobe space and the bathroom was very good, clean and spacious. Dining overall was very good. We spent most of our dining time in the buffet. The variety there better suited our tastes. We did however get all dressed up one evening and went to the main restaurant. The food was very good but there was not a lot of it which isn't a bad thing in our book. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed and we enjoyed the experience. Like I said the buffet more that met our requirements. A golf buddy of mine had been on an MSC cruise a couple of months before us and commented that he didn't enjoy the cruise because the food was always the same. I found this to be both true and a little misleading. To be fair how many way can you present potatoes differently. Four to five different ways I would have said. Our cruise lasted 13 days so yes you would see the same items coming up with a couple of days of a gap before their reappearance. The funny thing about that was that when this stuff came up again it seemed to be the most popular items that day. Is it the same yes is it the same every day, certinaly not and like I said when it reappears it's popular. Again spotless is an understatement for the buffet area, and the consistent cleaning was unbelievable by the staff. The entertainment was very good. A good variety of bars both inside and outside. The shows in the theatre were good but not great. That's probably a bit biased as we don't really go for shows of that kind but the couple we did see were quite good. The main bar areas all had singers, djs, pianist, harp and so on. There was no shortage of entertainers all over the ship. We would like to mention the Aurea Spa as we spent some time in there. The place again is spotless. The staff are excellent and the variety of what available is out of this world. The thermal area had 3 different saunas with different aromas as did the 3 Turkish baths. The relaxation area has floor to ceiling widows out to sea and is an amazing place to chill out. We had a couples massage and jacuzzi which again was in a dedicated room with sea views through the floor to ceiling windows. The spa as a whole is a really nice place to be but the one caviate is the prices are well up there on the expenses that are not included in the cruise fare. The service on board was brilliant, we couldn't fault the staff at all. Again I read before we cruised that some staff were abrupt and rude etc. We did see staff being treated poorly by guests so who knows maybe that is why some of the staff get abrupt or rude. There was absolutely nothing that I can remember that would make us think anything other than how good the staff were. The ports and shore excursions for us were very good. Barcelona, day at sea, Casablanca, day at sea, Tenerife, Madeira, day at sea, Rome, Genoa, Marseille and back to Barcelona. The excursions are expensive but you get what you pay for. The guides spoke clear English and were detailed in the guidance. I'm not sure how going it alone would be any better from an expierence point of view but it would probably be cheaper. That being said if you go it alone how many sites would you get to see and how would you deal with the "interpretive" aspect of going it alone. I spoke to some people who booked their own guided tours, but by my reckoning this didn't end up any cheaper. Overall this was an excellent holiday. We intend on cruising again in 2020. It was a great experience for us including my seven year old daughter. Read Less

Just back off our first MSC Cruise on the Fantasia. We cruised many times before with Princess and wanted to try something different. Apart from the great deal we got we had heard MSC was very child friendly and with a nearly 3 year old which would be her first cruise we thought we would give it a go. We had read many mixed reviews on here before we went so we were going with an open mind. The holiday didn’t start well as we had planned to fly into Barcelona the night before we were to join the ship but Ryanair had different ideas so ended up flying very early morning the day we joined. We arrived at the terminal about 1015 they took our bags and we had to wait until 1130 until the boarding started. We had been status matched to Black so where the first to board after the Yacht Club. The Ship was beautiful and immaculately clean. We were told our cruise cards would be in the cabin but not until after 2pm. We decided to go to the cabin and see if we could leave our hand luggage there until the room was ready. When we got there the room was ready and our cards on the bed for us. We had a Balcony cabin on deck 9 which was a great size with a sofa bed which our daughter loved and very clean. We went down and registered our CC on one of the machines which was so easy and then went for lunch in the buffet. We read on here a lot about the food being bad, not enough or cold. All I can say is that people who complain about the food on MSC must be really fussy. I enjoy my food and never went hungry. Portion size can be small but if you have an appetiser, main course and dessert you will be more than satisfied. We were on first sitting at 18:15 and had a lovely table for the 3 of us. It was an 11 night cruise and there was never any repetition of the menu. We never experienced any cold food and overall couldn’t complain about the food at all. There was always something we could choose. Our daughter is only 2 months shy of being 3 but unfortunately this meant she couldn’t go to the kids club without one of us being present. We didn’t mind that as we were on a family holiday. She still could partake in the activities like children’s disco and the pizza making and when the mini club was open could go in there as long as one of us accompanied her. Otherwise she loved the pool and dancing to the music on deck and in the lounges. What we found great was that we could still enjoy a drink in the evening and she could dance in the lounges close to where we were sitting and it didn’t seem to bother anyone a really big plus for us. We even took her to a few of the shows in the evening which we all really enjoyed. We hired a stroller on board which was free and saved us having to bring one with us. Overall the entertainment was very good aboard, the shows where really good and there was always live music in the bars and lounges every evening. We had the All Inclusive drinks package which was fantastic and had everything included we wanted. The wine by the glass was a beautiful Sicilian red which we really enjoyed. The only thing I found a bit frustrating was the lack of bar servers in the lounges it took ages sometimes to get someone to take our order. It wasn’t the servers fault as an extra 1 or 2 servers per lounge would of solved that especially during busy times. Overall we couldn’t fault any of the staff as on the most part they were very friendly. The only time I was disappointed with the customer service was at the reception desk. We had bought the internet package and I went to ask how to log on. I got a very rude and abrupt gentleman who basically looked and spoke to me as if I was stupid, I watched him with others as well and he was just so unprofessional and obviously did not want to be there. On the internet package it was awful. The only time we could get any kind of service on it was at about 0600 in the morning after that forget about it. We used 3G most of the time as we were nearly always close to land. There were a lot of different nationalities on board the majority being French, German, Italian and British. We found this great it made a change from mainly US and our daughter can now say hello in quite a few languages. Because of this the announcements where in 5 or 6 different languages this didn’t bother us at all there were not that many. It did seem to bother a few of the English speakers who in the future should stick to P&O or Cunard if they are that bothered. The biggest disappointment we had was for the last 2 days of our cruise when new occupants came into the cabin next door. They were continually smoking on the balcony and my wife even witnessed one of them throwing a cigarette overboard. We complained to the desk and I have to say the girl I spoke to was very efficient and sent security straight away but by this time they had stopped and there was nothing security could do without catching them in the act .She told me if they smoked again to call the desk straight away, I did but could never get through and when I did they had finished. They knew it was us who complained and we felt very intimidated when we saw them. It continued for the next 2 days and we couldn’t use our balcony for the rest of the cruise because of the smell. I really feel strongly about smoking on balconies as we were on the Star Princess in 2006 when she had a massive fire on the balcony caused by someone throwing a cigarette overboard which blew back on board and caused a fire. Check out youtube Star Princess fire. It was terrifying. I don’t understand why the cabin stewards don’t report people when they obviously find evidence on the balconies. I know this might be a bit petty of me but when you have experienced first hand a fire of that magnitude it just makes me mad why people can’t use the designated smoking areas on board without potentially putting the lives of everyone on board at risk. Ok rant over We also bought the photo package the one with 100 photos. At the end of the cruise when we were choosing the photos we only had 86, we asked one of the photo staff if we could have a few extra prints of the ones we especially liked she said no problem just tell them at the desk. Went to the desk and showed them the ones I wanted copied. Was told would be an extra charge for extra prints. Explained wasn’t extra just copies to bring total up to 100. No give or take so we left with 86. All in all it is a great package even with the 86 it worked out at just over £1 per photo. I will get it again on the next one I just think the staff should all be on the one page when it comes to explaining the packages. Apart from that we thoroughly enjoyed our time on board the MSC Fantasia. We will definitely cruise with MSC again we are currently looking at booking our next. We think we will book the Aurea package next time as we really want to have the anytime dining as the 18:15 seating was a little rushed for us and the late seating will be too late for our little one. Plus with the drinks package and the massages included it works well for us going by what we spent on this cruise. I hope this review helps any first time MSC cruiser. We had read so many mixed reviews on here but can happily say we were definitely not disappointed. It was a little disorganised at times and there were a few lines at peak times but this it to be expected. We were on holidays to have a good time and relax if we had to wait we had to wait we had nowhere to be in a hurry. If you want something that is well organised and runs like clockwork join the army. This is a holiday go with the flow and you will have a brilliant time. It is what you make it and we had a fantastic time. I would 100% recommend MSC Cruises to anyone. Read Less

We just came back from 7 night Baltic Sea cruise on MSC Fantasia. It was our 4th cruise. MSC Fantasia has a low score on this site. This is really unfair. MSC is a little different from other cruise line, mostly is the drinking package. Other than that, it is a great ship and great cruise. Our group has 11 people, 3 families. 7 adults, 4 kids age are 5, 11, 12, and 15. We all had balcony rooms. Embarkation: It took us longer than other passages. But it was not all cruise line's fault. We did not print out the boarding document. Therefore, the cruise agents needed to print them out for us. There was only one computer. We have 4 different types of passports in our group, took them a while checked all the visas. Ship experiences Food and drink: Food was excellent, especially for people who love Italian food. They have different types of pasta everyday. Pizza was great too. They also has daily specially, all in good quality, very tasty. However, gelato bar was not free. We did not bother, because there were so many other dessert to choose from. Drinking, this is the biggest complaint. It is a problem for passages who has room with BELLA package, and without purchasing any drinking package. The main dinning room has no drinking water, you have to pay for water. Buffer always has water, tea, and coffee. Only during breakfast, there is juice and milk. Fresh juice needs to pay too. Our room was with Fantastica package, came with 12 drinking vouchers each person, We have 48 in total, more than enough for 7 days. We used it for water, soda, wine, beer, and other cocktail too. Pools and other actives: We had only 2 sea days. Not much time wondering around the ship. However, I saw 3 pools at least. One indoor pool, many hot tubs. There are kids slide, very long one. There were so many actives for the kids on the ship, I think this cruise line treats kids better than adults. We also enjoy bars and live music. There were so many pianos, violin, singing, and dancing. With drinking vouchers, we enjoyed listen to the music drinking cocktails. Everything was great, everyone was having a great time. Entertainment & shows: We enjoyed the shows. The opera, ballet, modern dancing, especially the piano. Some nights, we had to decide go to the show or the bar. Either way, it was always a great time. Service & Staff: As all the other cruise line, there were lots of smile, greeting. Love our room stewards and waiters. Ship Design & Cleanliness: Beautiful ship ! Spotless! We totally loved it. Our Cabin: room 11057. The bed and sofa bed both in good size and very comfortable. The room was always clean. Disembarkation: Organized well. We were the last 2 groups getting off the ship. All of us relaxed around the pool area, drink and eat, until it was the time for us to go. There were shuttle took us to the Kiel train station, no charge. Overall, we loved this cruise. Many negative reviews on this site were not true. At least, those bad things did not happen to us. Read Less

MSC is one of the best cruise companies in the world. The staff very kindly. Balcony cabin with all the details you need. The entertainment and activities inside the cruise are very good, Northern cities are gorgeous! Our first cruise with MSC has been spectacular, we did it with our friends in two balcony cabins and it has been impossible to get bored, the ship is a city in the sea, if you want to be relax you got it, if you want to dance for hours you got it. My favorite moment was every day in the evening at the jacuzzi or the pool. Something I did not like too much were the photo shoots before the dinning, I know it is the staff job, but the insist too much even if you decline. But I insist: I know is a part of their job, and I understand it If you have any doubt about which company cruise to choose, this is a guarantee of success. Proof of it: in November we will repeat! I already have the cruise! this time Mediterranean cruise in MSC SPLENDIDA. Read Less

Had a fantastic time - we were upgraded to a balcony in the back of the ship and we absolutely loved it. Beautiful ship - huge. The floors were a little confusing, but we had it down by the end of the cruise. Most all of the service people on the ship were fantastic. We loved our dining waiters & our steward. We had a perfectly located dining table that looked out onto the ocean-- great waiters, food, & wine every night with dinner. The entertainment was outstanding. We liked the shore excursions in Tallon and St. PETERSBURG - The Hermitage was àmazing & unbelievably beautiful. Would reccomomend going to see that. Excursions to Stockholm & Denmark were too quick. The bus drove right by beautiful areas which I would have loved to get out & explore, but he didn't even slow down for pictures. I would highly recommend this cruise line & cruise ship. I'm traveling again with MSC in October; can't wait. I do have to say embarking was so onorganized. They should of had us check in while we were in the first area-- then we would have been all ready to go except the security checkout. Read Less

This was our 1st cruise experience, so im writing this without a comparison to other cruises. I was a tad worried about the MSC Fantasia, based on some reviews - they were unfounded! We were on a Genovo - Barcelona - Marseilles - Genova cruise, and arrived at the ship about 4pm on the day of sailing. We wizzed through the 1st part of embarkation without fuss and no queues. Perfect. Getting onboard and being issued with your Cruise card was slightly slower and a tad confusing at times with the number of passengers milling about (many with lifevests!) this confused us slightly, but it turned out this was the safety drill for which you must get your lifevest from your cabin and return to your designated area......all a bit manic and confusing for 1st timers! Our cabin was a at the back of the ship (10251) was perfect. I was surprised at the size and style of it. We had Prosecco booked and waiting in our cabin whilst our luggage was delivered a few hrs later. Over the course of the cruise we dined in the table service restaurant, buffet and tex mex and have no complaints on the quality or service offered. The buffet does get manic some times but the food is plentiful and was always hot and fresh. The service was always good. The credit system worked well although bar service was sometimes quite slow. The show we saw in the theatre (Micheal Jackson) was professional and worth our visit, and the casino helped empty our pockets although was good fun. The ship was very clean and staff were always wiping surfaces etc. The outside pool area was the same, clean and welcoming. We took ourselves off in Barcelona using the MSC shuttle and a taxi in Marseilles, easy to get on and off the ship. Our only gripe was our disembarkation in Genvoa, where we needed to have our cases outside the door by 1am the night before and a 0930 disembarkation (some have to be off earlier). Maybe thats the norm, im not sure but just seemed a little early, although I appreciate the logistics of getting so many guests off a ship in a few hrs! Overall, I'd certaily travel with MSC again and i'd choose the Fantasia. The mix of passenger ages, inc children, nationalities and the overall ship and staff made it a very enjoyable trip indeed. I'm sorry I don't have time to write a lengthy detailed review of our cruise in the Fantasia's Yacht Club. Actually we were on board for a total of 25 days in that we had a one week Persian Gulf cruise Dubai-Dubai before embarking on the Dubai-Civitavecchia repositioning cruise. Yacht club is a fantastic experience and I'd be hard pressed to find anything negative to report. Our cabin (15002) was wonderful as was our butler Zakia and cabin steward Gusti. Meals were divine whether in the L'Etoile restaurant where our waiter Giuseppe and Maitre Giovanni treated us like royalty. The daily lunch buffet up at the One Pool was great as were the snacks served throughout the day in the Top Sail Lounge. The management by the Chief Butler Vinod and his staff assured pure excellence. The weather did not cooperate for several days during the first part of the cruise, causing us to miss Sir Bani Yas island. Weather and rough seas can upset any cruise so there's no sense complaining about something that the captain and ship have no control over. In this short review I'll say that the Fantasia is a wonderful ship which I've sailed on several times now and am looking forward to a two week Caribbean cruise on it in November. Read Less

As my partner and I have always wanted to see Petra and enjoy cruising with MSC, we thought this would be an ideal opportunity to take an extended holiday that would cover both, and also spend my partner’s birthday onboard. We’ve written several reviews of MSC Fantasia and MSC Splendida in the past, so I’ll try not to repeat the same information again, as already written about the sparkly stairs, the size of the ship etc in the past. Our flight from Manchester airport with Etihad departed on 24th March and was an overnight flight to Abu Dhabi. Whilst there were no issues with the flight, it wasn’t the most comfortable we have had, so would probably avoid flying Etihad in the future. As we came in to land, the pilot informed us there may be a delay or we may not be able to land due to a terrible storm. This had me a little worried - nevertheless we landed and followed the immigration rules etc and collected our cases before finding our private transfer to the port. On arriving at the port, there was no sign of Fantasia, only of Norwegian Star. We asked the driver if there was potentially another terminal as we’d not been to Abu Dhabi before - he didn’t understand what we were asking. He flagged someone from the port staff who told us that Fantasia was cancelled. Our hearts sank and then panic set in. What were we to do? We were in a foreign country and due to the storm Fantasia was still in Dubai! Waiting in the cruise terminal, thinking about contacting our agent but then realising it would be the very early hours we decided to try and find someone else with more information. We were informed that a bus would be sent for us from Dubai. What a relief! It soon arrived and we were on our way - it was obvious what bad weather there had been as a lot of the roads were flooded. The journey to Dubai was quite interesting and on the way to the cruise port we got to see all of the famous buildings, effectively a free tour; always look on the bright side of these things. I do think MSC could have potentially handled this better, there were quite a few passengers expecting to join at Abu Dhabi and as it was a fairly short coach journey, a car could have got a receptionist or similar to the cruise terminal to assist with these queries. Embarkation was extremely quick and we were soon in our balcony cabin and got showered and changed in to some of the clothes we’d packed in our hand luggage. To our surprise and utter delight there were chocolate strawberries waiting, courtesy of MSC and as a surprise for my partner some canapés and a bottle of fizz. The main cases were delivered shortly after. Following that we were off to explore the ship and have a ritual glass of champagne to get the holiday started. Throughout the day we met with a number of crew we have met on previous cruises and they all seemed very pleased to see us again, remembering our names and the ships we had been on. On to dinner time, we had requested a table for two and had been put on a larger table; we didn’t have a problem with this but as it was such a long holiday we would have preferred to be alone. On our way out of the restaurant the Maitre D asked if our table was ok and if we would prefer a different one. We said the table was fine but if there was a table for two available we would really appreciate it. Not a problem and we were soon changed to table 961 in Cerchio D’Oro - overlooking the wake - one of the best tables in the house. I think the Maitre D had remembered us from a cruise we took on the Armonia last year. The following day, our call to Sir Bani Yas was cancelled due to high winds which would make tendering dangerous. I was disappointed at this as I was looking forward to a snorkelling experience. In hindsight it is probably a good job we didn’t go as it was quite cool weather with some rain showers! We took a taxi and went to see the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi - I’m glad we did. What a beautiful place! It’s huge and reminded me of the Taj Mahal in style. We went to our new table for dinner and were greeted by our new waiter, Erazo and his assistant Reksi and the wine waiter Erik. All offered wonderful service throughout the cruise, remembering our preferences for wine, recommending particular dishes and having time for a bit of a chat every night. The food on this cruise was different to usual, with a daily menu which was never repeated, rather than the usual rotating menu. We had several themed nights, such as French night, Arabian nights, Greek night, Italian night and Spanish night. Every night we ate 5 or 6 courses, yet as the portions are relatively small we didn’t put on too much weight or feel uncomfortable. Some of the highlights food wise in my opinion would be the Opera Gateau, duck a l’orange, Greek salad, spumante risotto. At all of the ports of call we sorted ourselves out, we’re not big on ships excursions and prefer to do our own thing. At Aqqaba we had arranged a private tour to Petra through a company we have used in Egypt for similar tours off Nile cruises. Petra was quite simply amazing. It’s a tough day out which would be impossible for people with reduced mobility. Ensure you take plenty of water with you, and even some snacks might be advisable. We entered the Suez Canal late at night which meant we spent a good portion of the next day transiting the canal - it really is a marvel of modern engineering. We experienced some delays on the cruise due to medical emergencies, three in total, this delayed our arrival in some ports and shortened the time we had there, but this is not MSC’s fault; as passengers we were kept informed and you can’t ask for more than that. The entertainment onboard was varied, we felt there would be something for everything. There were a multitude of quizzes including a progressive trivia as well as normal ‘fun’ quizzes, dance lessons, arts and crafts, lectures - one particular lady giving lectures was Hilda who we had met on the cruises we took to and from Hamburg last year. At night time there were the usual production shows the highlights being Wonderland based on Alice and a Michael Jackson show as well as opera, dance and acrobatics. In the various bars around the ship there were different bands and musicians playing - something to suit everyone. We tended to stay more in the Manhattan or Transatlantico bars on deck 7. The Inoteca wine bar was also a favourite hang out of ours for a quiet glass of wine after dinner to allow the food to settle. The night we stopped in Civitavecchia there was a changeover of some of the crew, with a few bands changing from MSC Splendida which was also in port. We were sat in the Inoteca wine bar enjoying a glass of wine when I had a tap on the shoulder - “I think I know you” - it was Irena, part of a duo “Smile” from Splendida who remembered us - we were so happy to see her it really made our day. We went to the Transatlantico later and she was playing in there and then sang one of our favourite songs! We’ve got some wonderful photographs from the cruise - we booked a 100 photo package for £64 - was quite surprised how many photos of us there were by the end of the trip we had to sit in the wine bar and put them in to piles of yes, no, maybe! This cruise really was more than just a holiday, the ship was more than a hotel - it felt like our home for 16 nights, we then changed cabins to back to back a short cruise to Barcelona and Marseille, another 3 nights! On the night of 11th April I planned to go and get some champagne from the bar at midnight (just by the glass as included in package, to toast my partner’s birthday) when suddenly, Irena started singing happy birthday one of the bar supervisors, Ruth, and some of the wonderfull bar staff we’d met - Eriska, Katerina, Nannette came in with a birthday cake and a bottle of champagne for him! What a wow moment!! Our next cruise with MSC is booked for November onboard Meraviglia, although we may well find something for the summer as it seems too long to be away from such a wonderful experience. An MSC cruise really is a holiday like no other. Read Less

Myself along with my wife, son and family had a holiday by MSC Fantasia Cruise ship from 11 to 18 March 2017 from Dubai and back to Dubai. This was something tremendous I can imagine. we were booked in Deck 10 Sogno and Deck 5 Fantasia. Once I had a ship sailing from Penang, Malaysia to Madras India in the year 1971 or so by S S Rejula a passenger ship between Madras and Penang. I was lucky enough to sail by this ship's last passenger journey I had been giving some briefing to my wife and children regarding ship sailing etc. But this was something too beyond my thought. Of course I had seen these kind of cruise ship in Dubai, Cochin, Seattle, USA. from outside and far away. What should I say a five star hotel floating on the ocean with all facility a top star hotel can provide without any mistake any way. My profession was in the hospitality Industry and I know well how and what it means to organize and run a star hotel while working as General Manager both in mainland and in beach resorts. Frankly like to say I was looking for some mistakes or to know will it go wrong somewhere. But to my surprise from embarkation till disembarkation so smooth like sailing. Our bags taken care from the beginning as soon as we arrived at the port and the same reached our cabin without any mistake. same thing happened while the end of the cruise. We thought of running away the first day itself by seeing the choice of food on the buffet counter and as well as at the fine dining restaurant. Deck 14 everywhere food, food, food, and food with soup, salad, fruit cut, desert, tea, coffee apart from the main dishes. and the dish served on the restaurant the quantity was too high for we don't take that much. Just because we are Indians love to have spicy food an Indian style but that was lacking. but we can understand Swimming pools everywhere you find unfortunately we don't swim. but enjoyed because others are enjoying a lot in the pool hence we too enjoyed. Spirit Bar here bar, there bar, everywhere bar. Here too we don't drink at all. but still we enjoyed when others are enjoying it a lot. Casino we went through that cabin some were playing may be they were lucky to have some fortune or some may have lost their earning. still this is also a part of the game. Theatre had some marvelous acts and action sound and lighting smart enough and on timing. Well treated for our mind and eye a colorful evenings we enjoyed sitting at the end of the ship where it leaves a spectacles mark on the deep sea where ever MSC Fantasia sails. We also enjoyed sitting and standing at the top of the deck while sailing in the deep sea as well as when it anchors at different harbors. No space is left out without having a touch of their own trade mark of their own style of decorating everywhere with some kind of artistic design and decor on every deck wall roof floor and the same inside the cabin too. Nobody can miss anything all well informed the previous night itself with printed news letter ready for the next day MSC Fantasia you are Fantastic Keep going Thanks Rev. Dr. Antony Walto Read Less

After seeing a few negative comments on here, I was slightly apprehensive but my fears were totally diminished as soon as I arrived at the airport. Once we got through security there were a steady flow of MSC representatives telling you where to go, all very well organised. We were off on the bus without long to wait and once we arrived at Port Rashid, Dubai we were given a letter to say that we were able to board the ship early which was great. Check in was a few minutes and then we were on to the ship. We were able to upgrade out drinks package instantly which was our plan anyway. They then showed us up to the buffet for breakfast, which was needed after an overnight flight. At 1pm we were allowed in the rooms, spacious, clean and everything you needed. We had a balcony room and plenty of space for two people. We found the staff that we spoke to lovely including Natalia, Annette, Julian, Francesco, Alex, Igor and Weda - there were many more that I can't remember names of unfortunately. Everyone was helpful and smiled at us. I'm a believer if you are nice to them they are nice back, if you are rude to them they are not going to appreciate it. We were on second sitting at dinner, yes it may have been a little later at 9.15 but that's the way the Italians work. There were six courses each night - you could pick and choose what you wanted, we were stuffed and never managed 6 courses any of the seven nights we were there. We never had bother getting sunbeds on the sea days or any other day to be honest. The bar staff were continually coming round asking if you wanted any drinks and they were constantly cleaning up. The ship itself is beautiful, spotlessly clean and modern. The staircases are a sight to see, sparkles as far as you can see. I used the gym whilst there and there are plenty of machines and it was never busy and you get a great view whilst doing your workout - anything to make it easier. Only went to one show the Michael Jackson show - it was terrific. If you only go and see one - make sure it is this one. In terms of the itinerary, I thought it was great. The only one I would not go back to is Khasab, there wasn't much happening but we can say we have been. Sir Bani Yas Island was idyllic and a lovely change from being by the pool at the ship. The staff seemed to enjoy getting their day off the boat, even if they were working. It's great you can get your food and drinks package on the beach too, not needing to worry about taking cash with you at all. All in all I would definitely use MSC again, In fact booked another cruise with them today to Cuba and I already can't wait. My friend came with myself and my sister and it was her first cruise. She is now a convert thanks to MSC. Read Less

We chose this cruise because they offered good value with kids going 'free' (apart from the flights). My wife's parents decided to join us so we ended up with two adjoining cabins with balconies with Fantastica level. I thought it would be a good chance to see a different place everyday rather than just sitting on a beach. We paid for the drinks package (which cost a lot) and a 100 photo package for 89 Euros, which sounded a lot but turned out to be amazing. I couldn't get the Fun Package which I read about on this forum (unlimited formula 1 simulator and 4D cinema) but got it easily on the ship (35 euros for our cabin for 1 week - also very good value). We had overnight flights from Vienna to Dubai (Emirates airlines so pretty comfortable) so arrived early in the morning. We were picked up and taken to the ship and quickly registered so we could go on the ship. We were told that room weren't ready yet (it was 8am so we weren't expecting them to be ready) but our bags were taken to the rooms and we went for breakfast. The buffet was excellent. It gets busy but we never had problems finding tables and had breakfast at the back looking out of the huge windows down from the 14th floor of the ship. The windows are angled so we were a bit worried when our 2 year old decided to lean on them to look down! After breakfast we went upstairs to sunbathe on the deck and I went to get the room keys. We had been told where to go and go the rooms sooner than expected. The luggage had been delivered to the room. (more in next post) Read Less

I had read other reviews on this ship and was a little apprehensive on what to expect. I have cruised 14 times on other cruise lines and decided to try MSC. I really enjoyed my experience and intend booking MSC again. The food was of a very high standard with lots of choice and hot which cannot be said for other cruise lines. My cabin was exceptionally clean. The best part of the cruise was the extremely hard working and friendly staff. The entertainment was very good with different shows on in the theatre every night. I found that the drinks were not as expensive as they are on other cruise lines nor were the tours on offer. The on board shops are the best I have ever seen on a cruise line, the merchandise on offer was of a high standard. I would highly recommend MSC and in particular the Fantasia Ship as I had a great week on board. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinary. Dubai to Abu Dhabi to Bharain Sir Ban Yas Island then Doha in Qatar then ending back in Dubai. We chose the Yacht Club (YC)and what a great choice that was. Being an Italian liner there was a very Mediteranean feel to the ship but cant tell how rude some of the Spanish were. They do not recognise any form of queue and walk straight to the front!!!! YC has a maximum of 144 passengers so no where feels full however when you do venture out it feels full on. Cabins - we had 12002 one of only 3 executive suites on that floor and it was lovely although think we would prefer a balcony to the panorama window. We had a jacquzi bath, walk in wardrobe and 24/7 room service from the butler. Pizza delivery after 8pm The YC one bar - fab service every time food always available and lovely. Only 1 singer on the piano which was repetitive and was better singing in other languages rather than in English. Would have been nice to see others. Butlers very attentive and drinks lovely The One pool area- calm oasis sunbeds always available and great service can get breakfast lunch and snacks with own pool and whirl pools L'Etoile restaurant for YC members Superb. Great service from Cassandra and Pietro. Food always nice and although there are 7 courses you can chose to have as many or as few as you like. The wines, included, were always really good quality and were changed nightly. We used this for lunch once and dinner each night. Did not try for breakfast Entertainment - given then language barrier this was OK. Wild west night was different only was dressed in cowboy gear and hearing a cowboy singing lift me up was a tad different. Went in 2 other nights and it was much better but very same Excursions - as this is a new route we believe these will get better but was good Abu Dhabi F1 Yas Circuit behind the scenes. Would have been better if not raining! and the rude Germans who walked to the podium for their pictures by passing the queue!!!! Introduction to Bahrain - the guide was poor. Went to the mosque which was great but then to a camel farm where the camels have been imported for 10 minute photo shoot then on to a souk where we had 30 minutes Introduction to Doha in Qatar - excellent rip but given the traffic too much crammed in. Souk was great but rushed. We was there 2 hours but told an hour. needed 2 hours. Museum of Islamic art - great place but only had a 30 minute stop needed more. Then a drive to West Bay and the Pearl was in necessary and should have been separate. Tour was 4 hours but took 6 and not enough time to grab anything to eat but was told after that we could have requested a pack lunch from YC Sir Ban Yas Island - what a gem. Tender to shore BBQ and drinks on the beech. We did the Jeep safari. But we were in a jeep with 4 Italians that chattered constantly and as we were right at the back the guide did not get a chance to tell us anything so may be better to group same languages in each car Dubai - due to walking difficulties we had a quiet day but friends said the tours were great Loved this cruise. Would recommend it and would say if you can go to the YC level it is worth it Read Less

my very first cruise & i loved it. after reading some of the msc reviews i started to worry, but it was a beautiful clean ship with hard working polite staff. After collecting our luggage the transfer from the airport was straight forward with a member of msc every few yards directing you to the right direction. half an hour on the coach & arrived at the terminal. check in was busy & maybe took 30/45mins, but it was easy & a drink was waiting for us. stepping onto the huge amazing ship we immediately saw the grand jewelled staircase with a harp being played. had our photos taken for our cabin cards which we was told would be in our cabin at 1pm along with our luggage. we was directed to the free for all buffet where we could leave our hand luggage in a secure place outside. asked plenty of times by waiters if we wanted to buy a drinks package, but we had already bought the Allgrisimo when booking. it was well worth the 26euros a day. i was apprehensive as to go straight onto the ship as i thought we wouldn't get chance to see all of Dubai when the ship docked on its return, but so glad we did as the ship is huge & we ate then took a stroll looking around. a newspaper is put in your room advising of excursions the next day also of on board activities & optional dress code for the evening dining. we had Olvin Pena as our waiter all week on table 754 in the Red Velvet & was very good. his boss Julianna I Wayan head waiter went out of his way to help my daughter who had a nut allergy. we enjoyed the Red velvet so much we didnt even go into the Tex Mex where you pay for tacos etc. Waiter service we was made to feel special. We ate in the huge HUGE buffet on deck 14 for breakfast & it was manic. felt like ants, hoards of people wondering up & down, but for me being a vege I found this great as I could pick from the very many different types of food stations on offer. The amount of food out was un real & you had 'stations' of hot breakfast, egg station, vege station, fruit, salad, cereal, cold meats, cheeses, bakery. then lunch hot dogs, burgers, soups, hot meals of different nations. Basically something for everyone. We opted for the early sitting @ 6.30pm as we could relax, have a wonder & a drink then go to see the theatre & later a party. the later sitting watches the show first then eat @ 9pm, which if you want to relax the 4 courses take around 2hrs. the portions in the restaurants are small, but as you get 4 courses they are ample especially as you are usually so full from eating from the 24/7 buffet. The ship is huge & we did not see everything on board. was told 4300 guests & 1500 staff. The service in all of the bars was slow, but I did feel sorry for the staff as there where so many guests. Trying to get a sunbed was impossible, but we did see a pool attendant putting stickers on beds with a time on & coming back 30mins later, if found still unoccupied he removed the belongings, which I thought was fair for those who just could not get seated. bear this in mind if you go to the pool for more than 30mins. Embarking & disembarking was very easy & not busy as people go at different times. Also have your cabin card with you as this is checked. We did not book our excursions with MSC as we did them at a fraction of the price by ourselves. Very easy & cheap to walk outside & get a taxi. ie MSC bus to take you to Dubai Mall 22euros each, we got a taxi for 4 of us for £11. MSC private taxi tour around Abu Dhabi 100 euros an hour, we did 7hrs for 70 euros ! All drivers spoke English & found them extremely knowledgeable. Drive round Abu Dhabi & saw The Palace & went inside (msc tour doesnt allow you, so a bonus), The grand mosque, opera house, herritage village, souk & ferrari world (but ran out of time at F.World, you could easily spend a whole day in the theme park) MSC safari tour on Sir Bani Yas was very good & the ship puts on a buffet on the beach, salad, burgers, cakes & drinks. Do go up the Burj Khalifa (book on line at home) & a must see the dancing fountains & Burj Khalifa lit up on a night. Dubai Mall huge ! we did Burj khalifa & mall during the day, lunch at ship & relaxed. Changed & dined at red velvet & back into Dubbai for the light shows. Enjoy :) Read Less

This is our fourth cruise with MSC having been initially reluctant to try an Italian cruise line. The ship is beautiful and maintained to a very high standard. We found the restaurant to be of a very high standard. But please don't expect a traditional 3 course meal. The food is very European and consists of up to 5 courses. Our wait staff were very attentive and made our dining experience very pleasurable. One of our dining companions had a nut allergy and they couldn't do enough for him. Please bear in mind that English speakers are in a minority and embrace the different nationalities and cultures that are your fellow passengers. Overall a fantastic holiday despite the poor weather and having to divert to Doha in Qatar.Well done MSC. Not perfect and always room for improvement but we have already booked our 5th cruise with them in October and are looking forward to it. Read Less

Review MSC Fantasia Dubai/Abu Dhabi etc..... We had a standard balcony cabin on deck 13 and it was one of the better cabins in terms of design compared to P&O, Carnival etc. The bathroom had no shaving mirror but hey! Breakfast buffet on deck 14 was the same every day but offered good choices. The only omission was that there was no mushrooms and to make toast you had to queue to use one of those very old and tatty dreadful toast conveyer belts machines (absolutely rubbish). Lunch also offered a wide variety of food and you could have lunch in the Red Velvet restaurant if you so fancied. The buffet on deck 14 could be manic with people of certain nationalities pushing and shoving as if the food was going to run out! There was a distinct lack of patience and manners and it did feel awkward sometimes with passengers reaching over you to scoop up food. On sea days the top sun decks became incredibly overcrowded as everyone was on board at once. It was almost impossible to walk the decks such was the mess of sun loungers with those dreadful orange towels packed tightly together. I'm sure this is a serious health and safety risk because if there was an emergency there would be no escape. The theatre entertainment was the best I have witnessed on any ship and was incredibly varied. All the shows had a bit of risqué which added to the spectacle and each one of the shows was highly entertaining in their own way without dragging on too long. The evening music and entertainment in the lounges was again magnificent and top class. Too often evenings on cruises are a bore fest but not with MSC. The thought that went into each part of entertainment was amazing and there was a wonderful atmosphere around the entire ship up until the early hours. The tours on this particular cruise were good value. The cabin boys and staff in general were graceful and well mannered although the reception staff could be very inpatient and seemed to be set at the default state of "the customer is always wrong" The drinks packages are good value especially if you upgrade your package from say 'Cheers' to the top package on embarkment. The internet is a waste of money and I repeat a waste of money! Even the top plan is very very slow and the data allowance is rigged. Most smartphones have apps running in the background and even if you know this and switch them off you still end up using €35 just loading 2 Google pages. I can not stress how poor the internet is and how quickly you lose the data allowance even if you 'log off'. When your data runs low (which is very often) you are offered a further 'Top-Up' which gets eaten up in 2 emails. The worst thing is when the ship resets its internet and your allowance (which can be €35) is simply wiped off! then you are directed to reception who immediately assume you have used your data up in the way intended and talk to you like you have no knowledge of the internet and how it works. They will never believe you are in fact right EVER and they waffle on about data allowance etc until you get fed up and leave. So you have been warned! Don't be tempted to use the internet allowance plans! All in all a very beautiful ship which comes at a great price with amazing itineraries. Happy sailing!!!! Read Less
