I booked this shorter Med cruise, to check if standards and general improvement where high on MSC wish list, to my dismay they were not. After a shambolic trip on the MSC Opera from Abu Dhabi to Genoa in may 2023, I tested the so called high calibre of service and quality which the company was aiming for, unfortunately all fallen by the wayside.

The embarkation process was swift and very quick, lots of friendly staffs available, not much of help for the special needing travellers with mobility issues. Arrived in the main hall, which looked outstanding and hospitable, was told our room was ready which was very much appreciated due to early flight arrival at Barcelona. A great surprise was to walk into a balcony room, although wife suffer with hights but was great to see the full view ahead of us. Room generally was spacious but to my disbelieves was dirty and not ready. Floor was not hoovered, desk had sticky drinks mark on it, face towel had a black mark of either grease, oil or stain. Bathroom mirror had a lot of white dots on it probably toothpaste splashes, balcony lots of white flaking paints scattered on floor. Not a decent state of affair.

Going for breakfast was always a major issues, not enough mugs, was told by the staffs to use beakers instead for the hot drinks, juice machine (2) not working, hot water dispenser kept on stopping due to high volume of water used by travellers. The lay out of food not synchronised accordingly, ie: toast in one area and butter in another, with jams somewhere else altogheter, Cutleries wrapped in napkins were ok, if only staffs concentrate in looking at their task ahead, found a very filthy napkins on the inside to have a white patch which looked disgusting. On another occasion I found a fork with scrambled eggs dried between its teeth. Dirty spoons mixed with cleaned ones, this could easily happen due to high volume of certain type of guests. Food generally poor and no flavours.

Nice cabin with balcony. unfortunately not up to standards

Port Reviews

Marseille

This city supposed to have being great, but arriving on Sunday made the day horrendous due to all shops closed, on top of all that it was pouring down as well

Genoa

Port facilities were shambolic, all closed off for workman's and local strikes

La Spezia (Cinque Terre)

NIce little place with good facilities, time spent there appropriate and good value for money
