Review for a Mediterranean Cruise on Eurodam

The highlight of our cruise was supposed to be Istanbul, and some other turkish port of calls. While I almost saw that coming given what was going on in the rather stressed out area, H-A Lines decided to pull out of all the Turkish port of calls in the very last days just prior. They did this while other cruise ships still went there. The trip was shortened about about a 1000 miles and the ...

Disorganized - 4 port changes with little notice! HAL Eurodam Venice 12 day

We chose this 12 day cruise from Venice for the ORIGINAL ports of call & price (Venice, Olympia, Athens, Istanbul, Kusadasi/Ephesus, Lesbos, Santorini) . It turned out to be only Greek Isles. Indecision and poorly executed itinerary changes plagued the entire trip. Worse yet - all the excursion booklets were wrong or missing ports for half the trip, and excursion tickets were not re-issued with ...

Embarked in Venice for a cruise through the Greek Islands and Istanbul early June. Its the little things that make or break a cruise and unfortunately it was a combination of little things that spoilt this cruise for us. Embarkation in Venice was quick and efficient, no more than an hour and we were on board, Disembarkation efficiently handled, but as we left the ship the afternoon of ...

The Med Misbehaved

We're around 70, have lived abroad, and use cruises primarily to visit interesting ports and meet interesting people. We have no interest in the shows on board and avoid the casino and pools. We chose the HAL cruise from Venice to Barcelona for some new ports and the chance to revisit familiar ones. Unfortunately, the Med in October had other plans. Port calls for Kotor, Corfu, and Livorno ...

Review for a Europe - Western Mediterranean Cruise on Zuiderdam

This was my first cruise on HAL, after having cruised with Oceania, Princess, Celebrity, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean. It may not be my last, but were I to do this again, it's not going to be on the Zuiderdam, which needs to go into dry dock in a bad way. Yes, I know it was just there in April, but interior decoration was apparently not on the list. We had cabins 4166 and 4170 (originally ...

This was our 1st Holland America Cruise. The Nieuw Amsterdam was a very nice ship and not too glitzy. The communal rooms and bars were all very nice but in general walking around the ship was cold and we required a sweater or cardigan. The stateroom was a reasonable size, plenty of storage with extra drawers under the bottom of the bed and plenty of room for the suitcases under there too. It was ...

Not the Ship of My Dreams

I hadn't inquired as to the size of the ship, so this is on me. I'm used to the smaller ships. Too many people. I'd meet lovely people and then never see them again. I was berthed in the rear of the ship, and was exhausted by the time I reached the front to disembark. The Exploration Cafe (at first, I couldn't find the library--then was told that it is all part of a larger whole) could only ...

My wife and I traveled on the Venice to Barcelona cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam on May 16th. This was our third cruise on Holland America and we expected a special cruise. Unfortunately it was a disappointment. The Nieuw Amsterdam was to have been their flagship but seemed no better than the other Holland Ships we have been on. Embarkation – the embarkation was relatively easy however ...

We are regular cruisers and have been on the Nieuw Amsterdam and the Westerdam, as well as several ships from other companies. This was a 22 night cruise from Venice to Barcelona, and was very port intensive. First the good things: Smooth embarkation, arrived 1130 just as they started boarding, and were able to drop our hand baggage in the cabin by 1215. Holland America always have 48 hours of ...

The deluxe verandah suite has no added value

HAL could not take my luxery cruise to the last 5-10% to make it what they claim it is. The concept of a cruise and a world wind tour of Europe was appealing to me and I did have an excursion almost every day. The conceriage on board was dedicated to the penthouses and deluxe suites. He was about as useless a tits on a bull. Let's just call him Worst for now. Out of 7 requests to the Neptune ...
