We had cruised 19 times before this cruise and chose HAL because we like their service and food on the other HAL ships. This being our first cruise since COVID started, we also wanted a smaller ship.
Both embarkation and disembarkation were very smooth and we received our luggage within 2 hours.
The ship was nicely decorated for the holidays and is still in fairly good condition, although ...
Zuiderdam was our first HAL experience. It was our worst overall ship and cruise experience ever.
We were greeted in our cabin bath by a gush of brown water from the cold tap, which lasted two days. There were leaking pipes around the ship, faulty A/C systems, and some of the worst shipboard food. When spaghetti and meatballs were the highlight...but don't expect any Parmesan to top your ...
This was our first cruise on HAL. We had always understood HAL to be a superior line for service and food, although otherwise quite low key when compared to the other popular lines. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement.
Embarkation in Ft. Lauderdale was quick and efficient with no long lines and waits. It was odd that we were informed that the boarding passes we printed at ...
Embark & Disembark
We are not extensive cruisers, but this was the most haphazard embarkation we’ve experienced. Security were surly and borderline rude. Passport kiosk didn’t work at all for my partner and myself, so we were directed to the desk. PA announcements were almost impossible to hear, with the echo. The terminal should place electronic screens with instructions.
Disembark was very ...
We wanted to get away after being cooped up for 3 years during covid. We really wanted to have a great time. The ship and the crew were great. The food was AWFUL.. and the entertainment was basically nonexistent. We are used to Celebrity ships where you have good shows every night. On this ship there were no shows like that at all. There were a few mediocre entertainers with shows that lasted ...
November 27 to December 4th
This was my 5th time on this ship. 3 times on the LRBC chartered cruise, once with my elderly MIL and this time with a friend.
Normally HAL is never my go to cruise line. The last two times are because my MIL is a long time HAL cruiser (she is 91 now) and my friend is 4* HAL.
Embarkation was a breeze. The ship apparently only had 1500 on this sailing. It was ...
We took this cruise because it was Available for back to back while visiting differs ports on each segment. Entertainment in the main theater was only BBC and dancers. While both were excellent, we’d like more of a variety. Also missing was Americas Test Kitchen, though it’s still listed. There was the same comedian in BB Kings on several nights. The music in that venue was good. We have not ...
I wrote a longer letter than this over 3 months ago to the President and CEO of Carnival, explaining my personal experiences, both good and bad, on Holland America’s (HAL) Rotterdam’s ten-day cruise, departing Port Everglades in November 2022. I was hoping my observations, and what happened to me, could help her and and her management team who oversee HAL, to make improvements and appropriate ...
We are avid cruisers with over 50 cruises on various lines and 4 star mariners on HAL. This was a HAL cruise in name only. The ship was understaffed in all categories resulting in extremely poor service throughout ship. Most service individuals were not happy to be working to the max which is atypical of our previous HAL cruises. Food quality, availability, portion size, and service in Dining Room ...
Just returned last Sunday (NOV. 20th) from Caribbean cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam on 14 days of the worst HAL cruise that we ever experienced. With more than 400 days on HAL ships and having sailed on this ship twice before, we never experienced anything remotely like this. In fact it was one of the worst cruises ever on any line including Carnival which can be inconsistent at best. Apparently in an ...
