Nice ship, a bit dated

Review for a Australia & New Zealand Cruise on Grand Princess

This is our 4th time on Grand Princess, and it is still a very nice ship, in spite of being their oldest. The Princess food experience remains very good, but they slip up in a few areas that would not have happened 5 years ago. Having also cruised with P&O and Cunard in the last 2 years, Princess are way ahead. Our cabin has the usual issues of an older ship, very poor ergonomics, and very ...

A mixed experience

Many aspects of the cruise were excellent. Room stewards, dining staff, pool deck outlet staff all excellent. The difficult aspects stand out. I had a feather pillow the first night, and I had an asthma attack. If you need a hyperallergenic pillow, request one before your cruise. To rub salt into the wound, they were repainting the superstructure in port when I was resting from asthma, and ...

First Cruise. New experience, better than we had hoped.

ABOUT US Echo and I are brother and sister (I'm the sister), and are close knit. Neither of us had ever sailed before. I often have Youtube videos going to be a kind of background sound, and Tips for Travellers came on. Gary has a pleasant voice to half-listen to. I kept selecting TfT, and Youtube started popping up other cruise Influencers. Because of this I realised that on a cruise ship, ...

Cabin was perfect!

Loved loved loved this cruise. The weather was perfect. The sea was like glass, with hardly a wave. The ports were perfect. Especially loved the overnight at Cairns. The food was excellent in the dining rooms (the buffet and hamburger house was a bit disappointing this time and sadly Alfredo’s is no longer free). We had a small Norovirus issue which forced the ship to have strict protocols for ...

First Alaska cruise 14 days

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Grand Princess

Picked this cruise as a B2B to the Vancouver-Sydney relocation cruise. The weather for 14 days was bleak, but doing a return trip we managed to see everything we wanted, though we missed Hubbard Glacier and the first Ketchikan stop. The internet worked well and we had no problems with the Medallion app. Would have spent more time in the casino except the smoke smell was terrible, seeping out ...

LOOKING GOOD FOR ITS AGE

We booked an Alaska cruisetour with Princess after lots of research. Have done nearly 30 cruises with various lines including several with Princess. Spent 7 days on a land tour first, which was excellent and ran very smoothly despite the changes of location along the way. We chose the Grand as we wanted a smaller ship and love the wrap around promenade deck on this older class. The smaller ...

Best cruise for Alaska nature lovers

This was our 8th cruise and 2nd time to Alaska (first was on Holland America), first time on Princess. We always heard that Princess does Alaska right and they sure did. We were very fortunate to have excellent weather through out the cruise, so that definitely helped. 1. Food - 3.5 stars (main dining was good, but several times the meat was undercooked and the Indian food was very mediocre, ...

Grand was a great first cruise 'after' COVID

My reintroduction to cruising. Grand Princess looked like she'd been carefully manicured while she was laid up. Fresh paint, everything tidy. The last renovation was a good one. The medallion system is a godsend! Seriously transforms the experience. No more card fumbling. Drinks easy to come by and the plus package is worth every cent. Food was very good, better than a previous trip on Golden ...

Embarkation in Melbourne was fantastic. We were allocated 1200-1230 boarding slot. Walked in to terminal at 1201 and was onboard within 15 minutes. Cabin was also ready when we boarded. Huge improvement from previous cruise. Bar service was sometimes a bit slow. Medallion app worked fairly well but hung a few times. Being able to find shipmates was a good feature. My Time Dining was easy ...

This was my first trip outside Australia since Covid and I didn’t want to go too far away. I’d booked this cruise nearly 2 years ago when Princess offered ‘bargains” to use up those FCC’s. Originally advertised for Nov ’21 but moved forward to Nov ’22 as we were still in lockdown previously. There were no balconies left so I got a mini-suite for less than what a balcony would normally ...
