This is our 4th time on Grand Princess, and it is still a very nice ship, in spite of being their oldest. The Princess food experience remains very good, but they slip up in a few areas that would not have happened 5 years ago. Having also cruised with P&O and Cunard in the last 2 years, Princess are way ahead.

Our cabin has the usual issues of an older ship, very poor ergonomics, and very little storage space (enough for 2, but not 3/4).

The vast majority of the other passengers were Australian, quite rowdy, but in a nice way and if you cruise to get dressed up in your best kit, then cruising down under is not for you. If they had enforced the dress code in the Dining Rooms on formal night, there would have been 20 waiters per guest. I also don't think a cruise is the best way to see New Zealand, there's just so much

Port Reviews

Christchurch

Really liked Christchurch, great atmosphere, very pretty, definitely could go back here

Dunedin

Not a lot here, railway station is superb, and we loved the botanical gardens although it's a fair walk and very steep hills

Fjordland

Just stunning

Melbourne

City is brilliant, best city I've been to in Australia. The experience at the port was terrible. The city obviously doesn't want cruise ships and signals this by the terrible infrastructure. No WiFi at all in port. No wonder cruise lines are moving to Sydney. The City itself though is the most vibrant buzzing place we've been to for ages

Napier

Lovely place, my only criticism is that we didn't have long enough here

Tauranga

We had a good day here in spite of the rain, we hired a car and went to Rotorua. The attractions are very expensive, prone to being booked up. We couldn't get into Te Paua, which was a shame. Book your experiences in advance. A shout out to Rite Price Rentals, small company, great service. They pick you up at the ship, take you to their depot at the airport and return you back at the end. All very efficient and lovely.

Wellington

Just a capital city. Botanical gardens very nice, not hugely impressed, won't rush back. The "Cable car" is fun
