NEVER AGAIN!! Completed a segment of the Oceania Around the World 2019 cruise. Treated like a second class citizen by ATW Travelers who were given special privileges while the rest of us treated as if we did not belong despite the dollars paid being very high.(The ATW cruisers made up nearly 3/4 of the cruisers onboard) . Atmosphere onboard - us and them - it was dreadful. Crew extremely nervous of upsetting any ATW cruisers. Specialty restaurants completely empty by 9pm - no atmosphere with most ATW cruisers in bed by this time. Menus at Oceania Toscana restaurant not overhauled in 14 years. Food offering very “yesterday” very heavy. ATW given priority for all sittings at specialty restaurants before 8pm. Constantly asked by other cruisers and crew if we were “Seggies” the name given by ATW cruisers to the perceived “second class” i.e.those who were NOT on the ATW Cruise. Made very clear we should - stick together and not bother the ATW’s. At least there were many wonderful “Seggies” but all of us felt we were treated - differently -in all aspects of the day to day cruise life compared to our past crushing experiences. Shore excursions were outrageously overpriced and slow. Those with permanent injury and unable to walk unaided, taking excursions they could not complete without assistance. Ship encouraged it -simply money making. Entertainment onboard was very ordinary and if there were acts that invoked fun they were quickly told off by the ATW travelers via the Crusie Director making most entertainment bland and boring compared to other luxury cruises we have experienced. MOST DISGUSTING OF ALL was witnessing the BAD BEHAVIORS of grown Women to each other and the crew over OF ALL THINGS - NEEDLEPOINT. Crowd control became necessary after physical fighting and crying broke out over not getting their desired Needlepoint pattern. Ship made daily announcements about the need to obey security at the morning Needlepoint distribution. Very large groups of ATW women joining together- physically fighting, lying, pushing and shoving to gain advantage over others. Ongoing ridiculous abhorrent behavior that would seem funny BUT it was ugly to watch and unfortunately very TRUE!!! We also sadly paid handsomely for the privilege to witness this - ship could not control them. Clothes were stolen out of ships dryers and worn by other ATW passengers and when challenged they answered “ prove it’s yours “. ATW cruisers organized their own exclusive sessions onboard for various things taking over the use of public space and telling Seggies they must leave the area. Crew would tell us to move or the ATW people would make their lives hard. Yoga sessions were conducted by a passenger who was NOT a trained, sanctioned employee of Oceania. She and her ATW students demanded and were given exclusive use of the gym while not allowing Seggies to attend their sessions or access portion of the gyms common area during her sessions. Again we were told not to question it - they had priority. The list goes on -It was absolutely horrible !! More like traveling with a very self indulged group of Aged Care Retirement people. Never again!!. This was NOT - repeat NOT - a Luxury Cruise it was the Cruise from HELL! Travel on a segment of any ATW cruise with Oceania at your own risk. We chose the cruise as QM2 is the last ship of its type, also going through the Suez Canal. We ticked both of those boxes and that is the best we can say about the cruise. It was infact the worst cruise we have ever been on. Due to norovirus on ship we were refused entry to 2 ports and not allowed into Jordons waters. We have experienced this before but not on such a large scale, hundreds of passengers ill. Cunard denied that there was a problem!? Captain Wells, we saw once on the cruise? The rest of the officers were no better no communication and looked and walked away from passengers, difficult on a cruise ship but they managed it very well. The entertainment on the ship was average, if it were only the ships entertainers it would have been poor. The guest entertainers and speakers were very good. The service we received onboard was good, but not the best we have experienced. Would we sale with Cunard again, NO. Read Less

The boarding experience was poor, nearer to chaos than an organised system. The first check-in person we met could not speak proper English, French or German and my Italian is poor. They insisted 'No drinks on board' on the pretence that passengers might bring some unspecified disease with them - in reality so they could charge, charge and charge again. In the cabin (they called it a suite) they provided a coffee machine AND CHARGED ONE EURO for each coffee capsule. At lunch unless you were quick, they fixed 'being cleaned' notices to all the coffee machines, so you had to go and buy a cup from their expensive bar. No wine was served included in the price, even in the premium restaurants. In the allocated one, the food reminded me so much of my military service; in other words, you could live on it, but you would rather not as it was of such low quality. The wine list was poor, but you did have a small choice, but most of the wines were also very low quality, but at Premiere cru prices. On their 'show-off' night, all the waiters were lined up with sparklers- a bit less stupidity like this and better food would have pleased us. The staff, from all over the world were mainly pleasant and tried to be helpful, but they were fighting the CMM (Costa Management Mafia). Decor is of course subjective, one man's bling is another's luxury, but in general it was so vulgar and 'in your face' that I am only glad there was nobody I knew on board. Italians are renowned for style, but on this boat, they had no style left, so made it vulgar instead. In the 'luxury' restaurant, the ceiling was made of some plastic disks; it looked seriously stupid - was it designed by an illiterate child? It was our 5th cruise and all-in-all, it was a horrible experience; the other four were all good, including one from the same overall group. It is a pity to complain about Costa after the Italian tragedy, but how they can justify such rapacious greed is beyond me. Do they not think how it puts people off them? At ports where you could not wander off by yourself and you did not go on their tours, they mainly charged for a coach to get you to the nearest town. We went on two tours and they were VERY expensive and really bad. One tour guide spent most of the time explaining how badly he was paid and how he needed tips to live. Even if true, it is not what I want to hear. He also got many of his facts totally wrong, so it was not worth the cost. On the other, they had a guide who spent most time speaking Spanish - not English as advertised. Is it worth re-naming the boats Costa Capone 1, Costa Capone 2 etc.? If you are going to "stick it" to the customers let them know in advance. I cannot think of any redeeming feature on the cruise - except we got back alive. We hated it!!! Read Less

This cruise was very disappointing. The ship is lovely - new, attractive, spotlessly clean. The cabin staff were excellent. Sadly, the food wa extremely poor. Lufthansa did better on the flight home, as did Costa Coffee at the airport. I did not have a single hot dish actually served hot - the best they could muster was lukewarm. Not only the food but the food service was poor - knives and forks placed next to you for the next course while you were still eating - - - The fitness and leisure facilities on board were pitiful - 1 sauna with 2 showers in the immediate vicinity for each gender when there were approximately 2500 people on board. The gym was small and the equally small studio was shut on at least 2 occasions for 'private consultations'. Equally sadly, I: 1) bothered to queue to complain at customer services 2) bothered to fill in numerous complaints which i was assured would be dealt with by the cruise line upon disembarkation 3) wrote several emails to Costa. I have not heard a word from the company. To my mind, this is not customer service. The cruise was NOT luxurious. The customer service was even less so. Put simply, if this was my first experience of cruising, I would NEVER do it again. Not all cruises are the same and I urge you to think hard before booking with Costa - try Princess, Royal Caribbean or even Thompson. Read Less
