We like traveling in the fall. This cruise went at the right time and to places we haven’t visited before. Having loved The Grand European Viking river cruise we wanted to try an ocean cruise. We loved it! It was exciting to travel from Norway to Barcelona. Each country along the way was wonderful! Customer service was great from our room steward, the waiters, to the staff of guest services. The spa was beautiful, and relaxing. We enjoyed the therapeutic pool, hot tub, saunas, even the snow room. The food was delicious in all locations on board, especially Manfredis Italian restaurant. We also enjoyed the shore excursions. Overall it was a great cruise. We have sailed on many other cruise lines and enjoyed Viking the most. Having less people on board made it more enjoyable. No lines for the buffet, or leaving and returning to the ship. All activities were well organized also. The entertainment was excellent. We hope to sail again soon on a Viking ocean and/or river cruise. Read Less

Local radio station sponsor for our group from Buffalo, NY - sounded like a great itinerary. Chance to visit multiple countries, with interesting side excursions. Most guides were very good. One suggestion - on our previous river cruises (different company, sorry!), we always had a "gentle walking" tour option which was great. My husband uses a walker and quite frankly, the majority of people on this cruise were 65 ++. Some of the guides just kind of took off, leaving people to try to catch up. A slower paced option would be nice. Very pleased with onboard entertainment - your on board entertainers were so cute and talented, also enjoyed the extra entertainers (Scottish singer and the magician). We especially enjoyed the enrichment lectures. These really enhanced the time at sea and we also enjoyed having access on tv if we could not attend in person. The mix of NASA scientist, wildlife expert and historical expert was great. The planetarium was an unexpected delight. Lots of lovely areas to relax throughout the ship. Enjoyed the slightly smaller size ship - we don't need casinos or rock climbing walls!!! Restaurants were good, with plenty of variety. The Chef's table was a great alternative. Staff throughout the ship was very helpful and friendly and our room attendants, Ni and Josef were superb. Read Less

Another family member had booked this cruise and we decided to TAG along. The food was excellent and well prepared and served. The workers at the buffet and the staff couldn't have been nicer and friendlier. The two girls that serviced our stateroom were a delight. Couldn't do enough for us and were very friendly. The entertainment was excellent for a smaller ship with less room to put on quality shows like some of the mega ships we have cruised on. It was a nice touch when the performers engaged all the guests after they did their show. The Cruise Director was amazing both in the way she performed and her comedic approach in entertaining the people on the cruise. The unlimited "FREE" Wi-Fi was exceptional. We were able to stay in touch with our family and business both by phone and internet. We are use to PAYING for Wi-Fi on the bigger ships but you beat them there. We will definitely consider sailing again on a Viking Cruise Ship and also look forward to a River Cruise in the not so distant future. THANK YOU for an enjoyable two weeks Read Less

Only supposed to be 1 night at sea but due to weather we had 2 consecutive days and could not go outside. Ship could not visit Gdańsk. Been with Viking river cruises before And delighted with professionalism of the staff. Visited places we wanted Togo Outstanding staff and food with a variety of restaurants to choose from. Our favourite was the world cafe. No rigid seating in any restaurant and plenty of tables for two.the drinks flowed at dinner and lunch too. Beautiful floating palaces. The evening entertainment was of a high standard and varied.matthew singing during the evening in the explorer lounge was excellent too. The enhancement programme was rather high brow for our tastes, however. Excursions were well arranged with no queuing to get on and off. Included excursions were orientation tours of each city. There was a large variety of additional excursions but we considered these expensive and only did ones in St Petersburg. Viking is an outstanding company but you do need to be aware that customers are predominantly Americans. Read Less

We picked this cruise because it visited the fjords of Norway as well as St. Petersburg. The ship was outstanding. It was full with 930 passengers and yet it never was crowded. The staterooms are spacious. The food venues were first class. There was no need to go to the specialty restaurants given the quality and service at the main restaurant. The staff throughout the ship could not have been finer. Heather, the cruise director, set the standard. She could not have been better. I do not know how Viking selects its staff but they do a suburb job in hiring and keeping them. The ports speak for themselves. It was nice having included excursions at each port. We took advantage of a number of them and also booked some private tours on our own. Entertainment was very good except for the magician. The singers and dancers were excellent. I have been on a number of different cruise lines, but Viking was clearly the best. If our voyage is typical of Viking, one cannot go wrong with sailing with them, Read Less

We chose Viking, because of the ships being smaller and less passengers. It makes it easier to run into guest that you’ve made friends over the course of the trip, also no long line ups for the restaurants or for the shore excursions. They offer all types of shore excursions to meet all expectations of the passengers, from ones that need easy access to those that are there to see as much as possible. The staff are vary friendly and are constantly asking what they can do to help in making the cruise more comfortable. Our cabin staff where always asking what else we needed and kept the room spotless and when ever they passed in the hallway, they always stopped to talk. The maintenance staff are constantly cleaning and maintaining the ship inside and out, so they are obviously proud of their ship. Dining was superb, with options that will satisfy any body’s taste. I would definitely choose Viking again. Read Less

Viking came highly recommended by several friends and I now know why! From the ship to the service level, everything was first class!!! Viking is now our cruising choice!!!!!! They far exceeded our expectations and offer a far superior cruising experience than what we found with other cruise lines. The educational programs were exceptional! The food was amazing and we loved how they aligned menu items with the ports of call. The entertainment was fantastic! Typically the embarkation and disembarkation are the worst part of the trip! Viking has this down to a science and managing getting on and off the ship was a breeze! We appreciate the attention to detail each and every staff member showed. We loved our Viking experience and highly recommend it to all!!!! We are already looking our plans for next year and you can be sure a Viking trip is tops on the list! Read Less

Anything we needed or asked was delivered or answered right away. We got to know some of the waiters - great sense of humour and great memories! Tour guides were very knowledgeable. Highlights for me were the Russian ballet - Swan Lake - and a kayaking tour. The Port Talks were great as arranged by Heather Clancy and Javier, then Tiago. So much information was given. The Quiet Vox headsets were an asset when they were working! I missed half of two tour talks when they quit - one on a tour with a local guide who had no way to zap it. We went to several lectures with excellent speakers - one was the history of Faberge eggs, another was about the Romanovs. Music nights were very well done - Beatle songs, Abba. Great entertainment. Just returned 2 weeks ago from 'Viking Homelands' cruise on Jupiter. Beautiful ship, WONDERFUL STAFF, very enjoyable cruise! My first cruise with Viking and won't be my last! The activities on board were WAY better than anything I've experienced on a cruise in the past. Tour guides were overall really good and tours were educational and informative. Alborg, Denmark was hands down my favorite place. A last minute excursion swap the night before we docked allowed me to go to three wonderful Viking sites, including a Viking burial location that I had so wanted to see, but didn't realize was part of one of the available excursions. Highlight of the entire trip! Flam, Norway was such a beautiful, peaceful place. I would LOVE to go back someday for a vacation just in this tiny village! Would have liked more time in nearby Aurland, as I would have very much liked to have visited a store with the Aurland loafers to find myself a pair....maybe on that next visit to the area! :) An excursion that included the Aurland shoe factory tour would be a nice addition in my humble opinion, and there seemed to have been ample free time to allow this if well planned. It was nice to be able to see so many countries and I loved that Viking themed much of the food each day to our location. It was nice being able to try foods on the ship, which were by and far EXCELLENT, from the various countries. The experience at The Chef's Table (we went 4 times and had 4 different meals) was AWESOME! Manfredi's in contrast was a let down, but Italian has limited options IMHO, and my swordfish was raw the first time we went..only went back to give it a second chance, but wouldn't bother booking it again in the future as there is little option there my nutritionist would approve! However, there are TONS of other options in The Chef's Table and the World Cafe. The Restaurant was a refreshing option at break fast as World Cafe's breakfast is the same every day, so while I don't usually eat breakfast per se, this had more options. People's opinions prior to my cruise were varied on the offerings at the Dome theater, but I saw all three presentations and found them largely education and informative. Of course, having now seen them, I'm not sure how often they change, so not sure if my cruise booked for 2021 will have new offerings or still be the same 3 seen recently. Hopefully by then it will be something new. With the exception of the resident Viking history speaker, who I found overly monotonous in his speech style, the speakers and presentations offered where really good and enjoyable and I feel like I came away with new information about countries I'd never visited before and likely would never have except for this cruise offering. So THANK YOU Viking for that!@ :) Would like to see trivia become a nightly event as it is a short (timewise) event, but a LOT of fun! Read Less

Our first time cruising with Viking. We were very happy that wine & beer was provided during lunch & dinner. Good wine, too. We also, liked that there was an included excursion at every port. We especially enjoyed the musical offerings-the violinist & cellist, the piano player, and the headliners. Very attentive staff-genuinely friendly & accommodating. We have cruised many times but never with Viking. We can honestly say this was the best experience so far. We enjoyed it so much that we booked a South America cruise for January 2021. The staff were very friendly & accommodating. On the 1st day our cabin steward inquired if we had any preferences. I had said we like still water bottles & ice. Every time he serviced the room morning and evening he put fresh ice. The lectures were very informative and made us feel immersed in our travel journey. Our cruise director was outstanding! We have enjoyed numerous Viking river cruises and hoped this first Viking cruise ship experience would be equally fantastic. It was. Nothing is left to chance with Viking and everything is first class. The thought of getting on one of the many massive cruise ships with 3,000 of our closest friends is hideous. Viking does it all with a smaller ship, with all balcony staterooms, and much more space for outstanding public areas. As we expected, service is simply magnificent. Our steward/butler, Gede, did a fantastic job. Our stateroom, #6005, was always immaculate and the bathroom always shiny and clean. We had plenty of space for our clothing, including numerous drawers and a nice closet. The sofa and chairs were comfortable, and our balcony was of a generous size. Dining was very good. There were at least 6 dining options, all included in the price. The food in each was well prepared, and the variety was appreciated. The spa is perhaps the best of any cruise line. The entire spa is available for no extra charge. We did pay for massages and pedicure. The gym/workout facility consisted of three rooms with top-notch equipment and elipticals/treadmills, etc. Entertainment was varied and mostly very good, if not excellent. How nice to have no casino, no climbing walls, no water slides, and no one under 18 years of age. As Viking touts, this is a thinking person's cruise ship. There were numerous lectures about the ports/history/shopping/human interests. It is possible to wear yourself out with the excursions. Some ports had more than 15 options, with at least one included in the price of the cruise. Most of the ones we selected involved a good deal of walking...on cobblestones. We were glad we brought sturdy shoes. Except for Norway, where it rained virtually the entire time, we had good but cool weather. It was especially nice in St. Petersburg and Stockholm. Jupiter is a beautiful ship, with many places to relax, hide, and kick back. We enjoyed the lovely afternoon tea several times. Be sure to ask for a tour of the bridge, which was a great experience. We had already booked another cruise, Bali to Bangkok next April. The wonderful experience on Jupiter lets us look forward to that trip on the Orion even more. It was particularly nice to be on our smaller ship when docked next to one of the monster ships. We counted our blessings and silently gave thanks for the crew of Jupiter. Read Less

Everything (ship amenities, food, shore excursions, service people, entrainment) on the Viking Jupitor was absolutely great and wonderful. The biggest concern I had going on this cruise was eating the food as I am gluten free. The was all labeled and I did not have a problem feeling ill. The restaurant supervisor was excellent and went out of his way to make sure I was happy with the food. On the second day at dinner, I asked if they had gluten free brownies and sure enough couple of days later, i had gluten free brownies with ice cream for desert. On the shore excursion tours, the tour guides were very knowledgeable and provided excellent tours. Having the wireless earphones was great. You didn't have to crowd around the tour guide to hear. You could hear the tour guide 20 feet away. Heather Clancy was an excellent cruise director and Javier Rodriguez did a great job telling us about the shore excursions. We liked the ports of Norway the best, then Stockholm. St Petersburg was good, but is was so crowed with tourists. We really liked the St Petersburg Ballet. Great wonderful cruise. Read Less

Although I had been on another cruise line before, which left me not wanting to go on another, my wife and I had heard so many great things about viking cruises we decided on this trip a year in advance. The flights were the most enjoyable ever and when we arrived in Bergen the embarkation was so easy and not at all stressful, unlike my other cruise where there were thousands of people crowed in a small space trying to hurriedly getting on board. This time the embarkation team was the most polite I have ever experienced anywhere. Our bags, because we booked our flights through Viking, were delivered right to our cabin door from the airport, no need to drag them to the ship and check them in at the gate. Once on board, we were awestruck by the exceptional and fabulous decor that surrounded us. The crew greeted us as we entered the ship and the room crew met us at our door and told us that whatever we needed just let them know and they would get it for us. Our room was huge, compared to my other cruise, and plenty of space to put all the clothes we brought with us. As our flight was long and we were getting hungry, so we decided to go up to the World Cafe for an afternoon snack and were overwhelmed by enormous selection of food that was offered, all of it delicious. Every meal we had, whether it was in Manfredi's, the World Cafe, or the Chef's table or the Restaurant, were exceptional, with never a wait in getting our food or a table. As the number of passengers onboard were small, the ship never felt crowed. Getting on and off for excursion was very easy, as viking would get us into the theater depending on when our excursion was leaving, and then send us out an excursion at a time. The excursion groups were small, which made the trips very enjoyable, and the guides were excellent. While on board, we enjoyed the spa often. I especially enjoyed the Snow Grotto and sauna, which felt good to kick the day off or at the end of the day and it was never occupied by more than 6 or 8 people at a time. We met and enjoyed a lot of people during the cruise and had a great time at the shows, in the Torshoven. Overall this was the most pleasurable trip my wife and I have ever taken. Read Less

We wanted a smaller ship (900 people) to explore the Scandinavian countries and St Petersburg Russia. The ship decor was wonderful......no detail spared! The food was magnificent and portions were perfectly sized. Everyone of the staff was warm and friendly. We learned so much about these countries (onboard through lectures as well as on our excursions). Out cabin was comfortable and the bathroom was roomy and bright. I was always amazed at the consistent temperature of the hot water and how fast the steam from the shower was vented away. I never had to wipe the mirror with a towel! We also enjoyed the educational programs offered on our cabin’s television. There were electronic game tables if you cared to play a game and a nap on the lounge chairs by pool side was always a treat. I pampered myself with nice massage and a lovely facial from the spa. I was also impressed at the artwork around the ship (the Viking tapestry wallpaper on the staircases amazed me....I had to touch it too see that it was wallpaper) and the book Viking made up to explain it all. One of the things that always put a smile on my face was going into the public restrooms and hearing beautiful chirping birds piped in! Such a great memory and so glad we enjoyed this Viking experience. Read Less

Oh my, we didn't have anything that wasn't fantastic. My husband was especially happy about the Alaskan King crab legs, we went for those, then went for a drink At the Explorer's Lounge for drinks, then to dinner. Our favorite dinner was the Chef's table Mexican night. Loved Ivan for wine and Mario for service! We chose this cruise because of the reputation of Viking cruise line and the itinerary. The Jupiter is a magnificent new ship, with soothing, understated, but beautiful Scandinavian decor. I actually liked the lack of "glitzy" finishes. My favourite part of the ship was the Winter Garden, where tea is served every day at 4 p.m. I am not someone who goes to tea, but I chose to sit in there to read because of how beautiful this space is. We had a verandah stateroom on the 8th deck and it was beautifully and thoughtfully appointed. Our stateroom attendant, Precious was so conscientious and kept our stateroom immaculate. The food on the ship is good and sometimes excellent. We opted for the beverage package and were glad we did because we didn't think the wines offered with the basic cruise fare looked very appealing. The service from many of the restaurant staff was excellent overall, but we did experience inattentive service from time to time. While we are not focused generally on entertainment while onboard, we did see a number of the shows and thought they were superb and just the right length. More than anything, I was impressed with how efficiently the ship's crew dealt with everything from the mandatory emergency drill to getting everyone off and on the ship to and from excursions. I loved how the emphasis, stated at the beginning of the cruise, was not to be intrusive and, therefore, to limit announcements which reach the staterooms to those which are critical. We have been on another cruise line on which announcements were made constantly which reached the staterooms and it was beyond annoying. Read Less

The staff was exceptional friendly and most courteous we absolutely enjoyed the entertainment in the Star Theatre and the classical music proved in the various areas of the atrium . In fact everything went smoothly ! We will plan to travel again with Viking and will not hesitate to do so. We were able to select additional excursions to add to our enhanced enjoyment. The food was beyond our wildest expectations at every meal. It was always fresh, beautifully presented and plentiful. If you needed anything cooked to order the staff was happy to comply. The wine selection was wonderful every day. The ship is gorgeous with beautiful and comfortable public rooms and many nice areas to sit and read or just relax. The pool areas are beautiful and appealing. There is NEVER a wait for service of any kind - always someone available to answer questions or to bring you whatever you need yet we never felt like we were being hovered over. Our cruise was a terrific learning experience! We try not to investigate the destinations so the we can absorb all of the details of the excursions and enjoy each location to the fullest. I choose this trip because I wanted to photograph the “onion churches” in Russia. Our travel to the initial port of departure, although a long journey, went without incident. It was the same for our return home. Our ship, the Jupiter, was fantastic! The staff could not be more attentive and helpful. Our cruise director and staff were very accessible. Our starboard cabin always seemed to be docked with the most spectacular views of each port. The housekeeping staff was delightful and always kept our cabin in tip top shape, even hanging up our clothing when we were in a rush to make an excursion. The restaurants and buffet had delicious offerings with local fare as well as standard choices. My husband enjoyed the never ending scoops of gelato! The entertainment was always fabulous and full of surprises! Opera, Elvis, and so much more! We enjoyed the shore excursions that we chose and hope that more can be enjoyed with the time allotted in each port (we would have liked to have taken one in the am and one in the pm, if possible). The evening port talks really helped us to plan for the excursion on the following day, i.e., footwear, clothing, rain gear, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our Viking Homeland journey and will be a guest of Viking again some time in the future. We choose the small ship , Viking Jupiter, just because of reviews and the wonderful convenience of having only 8-900 people on board !! When you wanted to exit the boat, there was no 'traffic jam'. We were on the top floor... the 8th. We could walk up and down to everywhere with ease. There weren't 25 buses for excursions... there were 4-5. Never crowded at anytime on the ship. Dinner reservations and dining was a pleasure with the small group of passengers. The staff knew everyone on board and our preferences within one to two days. Restaurant managers and wine stewards knew us so well , that all our food and wine choices were easily accommodated. Our cabin was huge and well appointed and we even had 4-5 drawers that we did not have to use. We have been on big and bigger ships, and never again. We have sailed on many other lines and The Jupiter is a wonderful ship, like “The 3 Bears” not too big, not too small, but just right. My husband is an avid reader and loved the many nooks, spaces, and books on board. I loved the sauna, ice room, and infinity pool, absolutely invigorating. We expect good food and mostly thought it delicious and inventive. I loved the Scandinavian foods and area, but to be honest we were disappointed on our last night at the Chef’s Table Road to the Indies- far too much “foam”....our fearless on board leader Heather Clancy was superb - extremely helpful, organized, funny, and seems like a real leader. Our cabin staff was lovely, supportive, incredibly friendly and helpful, truly NICE people. We were in “steerage” and had low priority on booking tours and couldn’t get on the ones we wanted so booked with outside agency which was a huge mistake and caused a lot of aggravation. I think that if you offer tours and people are willing to pay then Viking needs to ensure everyone can get accommodated or there are disappointments. The only other comment is that I would like more time in port, so on 1 day stops it would be incredibly helpful if we didn’t have to be back on board until 5 or 6 PM. Boarding at 3 PM doesn’t give enough free time. We liked this trip so much we booked another Viking Cruise while we were on board. Read Less

Britain and Ireland were great as well. Could’ve used one or two less stops in Scotland as many were simply fishing villages on a little island. Would rather have stayed in one of the cities such as Edinburgh longer. Some of the included tours got to be a bit dull as all we did was ride around on a bus and things were pointed out to us. Would’ve liked to have covered less distance and done more walking. The service and the food was outstanding. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. Could maybe have used a little more activity at night. The booking of excursions was somewhat annoying as each level of cabin got to book their excursions on different days so the day we were able to book our excursions was crazy and hard to get online. Would like to have had more options for tours. Perhaps a few more active ones. Overall I would definitely do another Viking tour. Read Less
