Review for a North America River Cruise on American Pride

Wanted a local, small river cruse for personal service. I'm 91 and the Snake River cruse was on my bucket list. Cruse line changed my early arrival hotel which was right across the street from the ship to a hotel that was over 20 miles away. That hotel had no restaurant and we had to have sandwiches delivered for dinner. I had to get a cab to the ship. Cruse line was to provide baggage transfer. ...

Floating Nursing Home

Review for a Canada & New England Cruise on American Independence (formerly Independence)

Embarkation in Portland, Maine went smoothly but upon entering the ship and cabin we were very disappointed. Upon the suggestion of another couple with us, we were led to believe that small ship cruising would have "highly personalized service" and an "accommodating crew will anticipate your every need and provide you with an unequal level of attention". The cruise up the Maine coast was geared ...

Looking for an A+ experience, scored well below average.

We chose American Cruise Lines because we wanted to be on a small ship, we loved the itinerary, our friends who'd been on before said everyone seems like family, and the reviews were great. We were looking for a great experience – what we got wasn't quite enough to be even good. I was surprised that this was a fairly new ship, when we got to the dock it looked like some old ship. The dining ...

Very disappointing; drive the Columbia River rather than sail the "Queen"!

Review for a North America River Cruise on American West (formerly Queen of the West)

As frequent river (Europe) and ocean cruisers, we came with high hopes for a top notch ship to equal the price paid. We knew the ship was old; we weren't prepared for lack of quality care of the vessel (save the engineering which was relatively new) over the years. Upon entering our cabin for the first time, the window covers (mini blinds) were warped from mishandling over time. The wall ...

Costly Disappointment

The interior of the Independence, which was put into service in 2010, looks like the 60s. I assume the interior was designed to look like Americana, but it just looks tired with soiled and worn upholstery, and tacky carpets and furnishings. Some meals were better than others (and a few were downright inedible), but for the most part the food was tasty and nicely presented. Service was somewhat ...

Disappointing Cruise, Not Worth What We Spent

We had cruised three times previously on American Cruise Lines (ACL), and generally had good to very good experiences, although the cruises are expensive. So, we looked forward to this cruise along the coast of Maine. One of the big positives of ACL is the informality, ease of embarkation and disembarkation, and friendliness of the crew. Unfortunately, it was the worst of the four cruises by a ...

Queen of the West

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American West (formerly Queen of the West)

Complete itinerary not given until we boarded boat. Queen of the West is an older ship, but was to have been re-done in 2011. The public areas are nice, rooms are exceptionally small - had one piece of furniture removed so we could use the chair to put on socks. Pace is exceptionally slow even for a very senior citizen - boat was more like a nursing home than a cruise. Young people hired to serve ...

Disappointing in many ways

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American West (formerly Queen of the West)

The Queen of the West looks tired. Our Veranda stateroom was small & cramped, and the door to the veranda was not all glass so the view we expected wasn't there. There were fumes so we didn't use the balcony much. The day we arrived the toilet in our cabin was dirty and stained. There was zero storage in the bathroom -- no cabinets, no shelves, so I kept my toiletries on the floor. The ...
