We chose this cruise because it was the same itinerary from the same port we took on our honeymoon 25 years ago. Embarkation/Debarkation were both very smooth. Quickest on/off the boat we have had. Carnival's new procedures for priority were amazing. We were on the boat in probably 20 minutes including security, and off and in the uber in 15 or less. Really liked our cabin - 8320. Afternoon there is some noise from Lido, but nothing that bothered us. It's a good location for getting to the lido, and I really like the decor and the amount of storage. Dining was just ok. Enjoyed Guys Burgers, but everything else was pretty much just average. This was our first shorter cruise in many years, and will probably be our last. Lends itself to a bit more of a rowdy bunch than we are, and the crew doesn't seem to work on the connection to passengers that you get on the longer cruises. We didn't meet our steward until later in the evening, and I really felt that I was bothering him. It was a struggle just to get our wet pool towels changed out. And the cabin wasn't nearly as clean as it should have been. Our waiter Thomas was very nice and worked hard to provide service, but his assistants seemed overwhelmed, and we had almost no interaction with them. But not because they weren't there, they were just constantly working! Really enjoyed Key West, but they really need to give us more time. Nothing opens until 10, and we had to be on the boat at 1, with the last shuttle leaving for the boat at 12:30. Felt a little rushed and didn't get to see all that we would have liked to. On the other hand, loved the schedule in Cozumel. 12-10 was just perfect. Got several hours at the fabulous Mr. Sanchos and got to close it down, then onto town for a delicious dinner at Palmeras where we dined on our honeymoon, followed by Cuban cigars and delicious, reasonable drinks across the street at La Casa del Cabano. Did enjoy the big screen movies, and the smoking area is very large and comfortable for my DH who is an avid cigar smoker. The Latin Duet was really good as well. We didn't go to any of the bigger shows. Spent most of our time in the adult pool which never got too crowded with plenty of tables around. Read Less

We chose this cruise for what was supposed to be a honeymoon. NEVER again will we cruise with carnival. We met ONE nice bartender on this ship. The food was crappy as well as the people serving it. They were rude and acted like they hated their jobs. This line allows underaged kids to get plastered and start arguments with adults. When security is called, "it doesn't matter that they are underage and drunk." Security was an absolute joke. If you have an issue, you're better of handling it yourself. You smell weed everywhere on the boat, even in the family areas, therefore I'm super glad we did not bring our child with us. I guess some people don't understand we have decent jobs and get drug tested and do not care to smell that 24/7. It was just an overall bad expierience. I do not recommend booking with them and if you do, Elation is not a line you want to take your littler ones! Read Less

Room 6338 on the Carnival Magic September 22 - September 28, 2019 Exotic Eastern Caribbean Cruise 6 Day. Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, and Amber Cove Dominican Republic Husband and Wife Cruise First off let me just say, the Carnival cruise lines gets too many negative reviews. Our trip started out with arriving at Ft. Lauderdale at 10:30 we boarded the ship after check in immediately around 11:30. The buffet elevators were programed to take you directly up to the Buffet which is on deck 10. We ate at Guys Burger and went to the bar to order a drink. We tried to get to our room which was 6338 and our luggage was outside of our room and badge keys were in the mail box. I AM NOT KIDDING YOU. We were able to unpack and situated. This trip made us Platinum Cruisers and when we opened the door there were two lanyards on the bed and 2 pins with a letter of thanks. Very classy Carnival! I have read where people say some nasty things about Carnival doing this because it's cheap. Shame on you, it cost a lot of money for things like this and a company to show their appreciation. I am not a princess and I appreciate things like this. Elevators were crowded but you’re on vacation with a lot of other people who want to have fun. This is where you manners should prevail. The elevators time was about 10 minutes to get into one. Because we stayed on the 6th floor we would run down the steps to the casino to the 5th floor. We are also Premier Member's (Casino Spenders) and received little gifts every day. LOVED IT. First thing I did was go out on the balcony. I tried before to find a review about the room and could not find one so I will take the time to explain it as best that I can. The balcony is on the 6th floor looking down at the outside shower and the Jacuzzi was to the right of it. I really didn't think too much about it because I planned on being in the casino most of the time. However, there was only one incident where about 8 teen agers were in the Jacuzzi getting on one another shoulders goofing around and splashing water all over the place. This went on about one hour with swearing between each other and making out. I eventually called 911 and reported it. The security guard was up and walked the floor and told them there was a complaint made by the passengers, they told the guard we were all laughing at them and going along with it. The Security Guard remained firm and told them to stop it. After the guard left they started to yell at us all for ratting them out. The boat was just leaving port from Half Moon Cay and they wanted to know why we were all out on the decks (Where are these parents?) Finally they left, Thank God. I do not blame Carnival because the parents should be more responsible with their kids especially teenagers. They still can still get into trouble regardless of where it is. With this being said, I do think that nobody under 18 years of age should be in the Jacuzzi’s without adult supervision. The buffet was really good which surprised me. We do not attend the sit down dining because it takes too long for us. Out of all of the other ships, Freedom, Valor, Liberty, Glory and Conquest this was a better buffet. Very tasty. The deserts were not that sweet which made you not want to overdo it. That was a good thing because it’s amazing to see how people just gorge themselves on the food. The casino was outstanding. I love the bigger ship because it gives you a lot more machines to play on. Even when the nights were really crowded you can find a machine to play. And yea the smokers are really bad. I had one lady that always seemed to be sitting next to me just smoking and blowing it my face without playing the slots. No problem I would just move to another machine. The machines let you play with wins and on the last day my husband won almost $1,200.00 which was very cool.  There were vapors on the boat but the casino employees would catch them and remind them there is not vaping on the boat. Our room Steward was so wonderful and attentive we always had ice in the room and the room was clean and not smelly like some other people have complained about. I did not smell anything on the ship other than good food and cigarette smoke. Also, the crew were amazing they were always working so very hard on keeping the ship clean. I know that this is a long review but Carnival does not get enough good reviews!!! I cannot wait to book another trip on the Dream, Horizon and eventually the new. Dismemberment was the best I have ever had. This guy should be a trainer in keeping things organized and staying right there to direct people to keep doing the same things that other people were doing. Usually there is no leadership and people crowd the hall way and there is congestion everywhere. NOT THIS TIME. Thank you Carnival Cruise lines you are the best and hope to see you soon!!! Read Less

This was our first Carnival cruise. My wife and I are in our late 50’s early 60s. We’ve sailed with Royal Caribbean, Princess, NCL, and for our honeymoon, Home Line. We hesitated sailing with Carnival due to its rep as a beer and pizza cruise line. After reading numerous reviews on how they’ve upped their game, we gave it a shot and were not disappointed. We sailed on the Sunrise, to Canada and New England. First, this cruise attracts an older audience. 90% of the passengers were older than us, and that was quite OK. The ship is a rehab, with Carnival adding additional passenger rooms to the detriment of common areas. They were very overcrowded, including the buffet, which was no loss, as cruise buffets in general arent stellar. It was difficult to get seating at the piano bar and the comedy club. We went to the comedy club once, 45 minutes early, and were able to get a seat. The ship was not nearly full, which gives me concern about how it would fare when full. We had an inside cabin, as we love the dark for sleeping. It was amply sized, and we didnt feel at all cramped. The food was really good. The Guy Fieri restaurants (note, theyre not really restaurant, just take out) were stellar. Some of the best BBQ anywhere and great burgers. Terrific! Make this your first meal when you wait for your room. Lucky Bowl was also exceptional. A cross between pho and ramen for lunch; delicious noodle soup. For breakfast, they serve breakfast bowls. Skip the buffet for lunch and dinner, youre best off at the taco bar (also good for breakfast), the sit down formal main restaurant or the Fieri stops. You can always grab something from the buffet if the other meals dont fill you up. The only meal that was disappointing was the for-pay Cucina del Capitan. The service was poor, and the food mediocre. If you want to splurge, order the lobster for a $10 dollar premium in the main dining room. Or the seafood tower. I’m sorry we didnt. We saw one the last night, and it was huge. At $60 for two people, it’s a bargain. Also, on the first formal night, they serve lobster for no surcharge. So, dont book the specialty restaurant for formal night. If you want more than one of anything, ask. If youre too timid to ask, ask them how big the lobster tail is and they will heap them on you. Passive aggressive ordering. Youre welcome. The activities were fun, and the shows were really good for what they were. The only total ripoff is bingo. On the first night, 8 people split the $200 jackpot. On the last night, they advertised a $5000 jackpot. This was a fill-the-card game. What they didnt tell you was that if there wasnt a winner after a certain amount of draws, they wouldnt award the $5000 jackpot. This wasnt advertised, and the winner walked away with a $1000 prize. A lot of angry people. All in all, it was a great cruise with really good service and food. Good value. Read Less

First I would like to state i rated a 1 because there were no minus buttins to select. We chose this cruise to celebrate our wedding honeymoon because of the destination from Port Canaveral to Turks &Caicos, and to Amber Cove D.R. Unfortunately this didnt happen and we ended up in Nassau Bahamas. The itinerary was switched after we were disembarked on the second day. The ship had mechanical issues our balcony door to our suite was broke and therefore impacted the air conditioning and refrigerator in our room. Secondly, prior to boarding our ship we had to carry our luggage to the top floor of the ship ourselves as we were informed Carnival dismisses their porters at 2pm daily. We did not get what we paid for nor did we enjoy this cruise. The staff seemed to not care and are powerless to try and accomodate for our losses. Carnival ruined my honeymoon. If your lokking for luxury this is not the ship nor the cruiseline you want to select. My husband and I are so sorry we didnt cruise with Norwegian as we normally do. Read Less

Crew was fabulous and friendly. Cabin steward For room 1043 fantastic. Lee was so kind. Food not so great. Even the steakhouse upstairs very small Portions, waitresses were snooty at steakhouse. Ship itself was easy to walk through and not too long at food lines. Shows were awesome. Comedians not so funny. Our one tour to stone Island beach was a big joke. Peddlers wouldn’t go away. We couldn’t even view beach. We thought it was a secluded spot. It was a cement venue building. Not enough chairs or loungers. Food was also so so. Not worth the money at all. After that tour we decided to not book another tour. Someone from carnival should actually go as a regular person and scope out these tours and get a true feel for these excursions. Pictures shown don’t reflect the true excursion. Also tour guides and tip jars everywhere. cruisers beware bring tons of tip money cause you will be bombarded. splendor ship needs some TLC by the pool areas and window washing. Couldn’t see out of windows at dining. Don’t play the 5000.00 bingo at end of trip. The catch is you have to get a coverall card in 49 numbers or less and when you don’t , they drop it to 500.00. Spa steam room and hot chairs didn’t work most of the cruise. Went to speak to front desk lady last Friday and she could care less. No where to sit in jacuzzi in spa. No seats and you had to hold on To rails to hold yourself up. Our gold pearl waitresses were awesome Read Less

We decided on the Carnival Fantasy because of the Panama Canal Transit. We had never wanted to cruise Carnival because of the reputation of "Party Ship" but the cost was great and the timing was perfect so we took a chance on the September 16th, 11 day cruise out of Mobile, AL. This ship was so far above my and my husbands expectations. It had just received very bad news coverage from a disgruntled inspector (after we purchased the cruise), and we were already risking the party atmosphere. We were so shocked to find not one of the things we had read or heard about the ship to be true. The staff was amazing and went above and beyond to know who we were and how to make each moment more enjoyable. This was a Journey cruise (over 10 days) so we were with this staff longer than most. We found relationships built that were genuine and positive. The captain was great at keeping us in touch and informed which made it a positive interaction as we sailed. The meet and greet with the staff was elegant and professional – as well as very entertaining with the professional ballroom dancers and Shipmonk’s performing the perfect mood setting music. Drinks were flowing and appetizers and staff met with the elegant ambiance they had set for the evening. The dinning staff was attentive to our every need - greeting us by name and having the things we enjoyed on the ready. Seon, Lady Ann, Pratama, Kataporn and Ola (short version of Ola's name) were dining room stars! Singing, smiling and ensuring our water was always topped off, our sides were always ready and available and any extra’s or additions were cared for. The cleaning staff was amazing! They were constantly wiping windows/handrails/glass as well as vacuuming and cleaning floors. Seti cared for our stateroom in way that made it a place to look forward to coming back to so we could see the surprises he had laid out for us! Selva was one who constantly worked! From the day we got on board and he was getting the luggage out … to meeting him all over the ship as he cleaned, vacuumed, mopped, dusted and always smiling and wishing us a good day. It was a pleasure to have Seti and Selva on the cruise! There was nothing about our Carnival ship that lived up to any negative reputation which had proceeded it. It was clean, run well, fun, relaxing and enjoyable. Marty was the Cruise Director for the first part of the trip and Rico the Cruise Director for the last. They were amazing! Why different Cruise Directors on one cruise? There was a special event we never know about held where Carnival and St. Jude’s are in a partnership, Carnival does various little events on ships to raise money they give to St. Jude’s. This was so touching to learn about. We had our fund-raiser onboard and our ship raised over $15,000 for St. Jude! It was incredible to be a part of. But, back to the reason Marty left the ship mid-way. Marty was selected as one of a very few Cruise Director’s to go and present St. Jude with the monies raised, as well as getting the opportunity to meet with some current families at St. Jude and talk with staff to see exactly how the monies are used to help each family personally. It was a blessing to learn of Carnivals involvement with such a wonderful purpose. Once Marty left and Rico took over – it was just as amazing and Rico’s heart and joy were evident in his calling as Cruise Director. The promotion mid-trip allowed us all to see how much each person values their various roles onboard. The majority of the staff was just as much as professional and fun while being available to complete whatever task was on hand for them. Even in the photo department the ship was not pushy in any way and we found Fresca was so kind and yet fun and willing to capture a great shot, or let us move on by when she saw it would be an interruption. That alone was amazing. The ports of call were different on Carnival than other cruise lines. They ensure you have a wonderful experience if you are even just visiting the port. It was cleaner and easier to get off and back on the ship than others we have sailed. The excursions were well explained and when we did take them (we did not at each port) the staff was highly educated in the experience we were about to embark on. The transportation was in new buses with air conditioning and bathrooms, locations were clean and organized and it was safe and so fun and entertaining! Overall we had so many positive experiences and interactions on our Panama Canal cruise we were amazed. It wasn't all perfect, as with anything when you are with people in the same place for 11 days there will be a snafu to two, but the good was actually great and we are looking forward to taking future cruises with Carnival - hoping to run into some of the same staff again to catch up and see how they are doing – as well as meeting up with people we met on the cruise for creating new memories to last a lifetime. Thank you Carnival for completely changing our impression and view of Carnival cruise line. We are glad we took a chance and grateful for the amazing Panama Canal crossing experience! Read Less

We chose this cruise to celebrate our anniversary. We like the short itinerary because we had never been on a cruise, and I am super prone to motion sickness. My wife was super excited as we arrived at Port Canaveral. We went through the embarkation process and got on the ship in about 10 or 15 minutes, which was outstanding. We paid for the faster to the fun package, so we should have been allowed immediate access to our room, but we were denied entry by multiple people and had to drag our garment bag and carry on around with is through the crowded lido deck and attempt to get food separated from each other to have one person watch the luggage. That's not exactly the perfect way to start the cruise. As I stated before, I am super prone to motion sickness, so I prepared with the ginger pill dramamine, which did really well for me, but the waves were horrible and rocked the ship until we heard nothing but complaining about it from every cruisegoer we met. I realize this isnt Carnival's fault, but I thought it rich when the captain said we will be having just a light chop for the last day, and it knocked stuff over in rooms. The food was sub par on the buffet, Golden Corral is better, and the lines are shorter. The service is good at the tables, but there are very few things that can be done to make it more palatable because almost everything is pre made. (Even the employees will admit this.) The Silver dining are was fun, but 75% of our meals were just ok. The prime rib on formal night was a giant, universal, fail. We really liked our waiter though, shout out to Cuckoo...as he said he should be called. The room was small, but it said 170 sq ft, so, what do you expect? Well, the shower was clogged, the AC was horrible, and the sink had no water pressure. The AC was fixed on the third night of the cruise, the shower was same day, and the sink never was. Out room attendant, Michael, was quick to accommodate us with a fan and calling maintenance. Nono was the cruise director, and she was awesome. I have nothing but good things to say about her. Nassau was a disappointment, Princess Cay was awesome. The people for the most part were great, and the other parts were not. We will be booking again, but we will try other cruise lines before returning to Carnival. Read Less

I chose this ship simply because it was the only porting out of new Orleans. If i had a chance to pick again. It would've been carnival dream or triumph which is carnival sunrise. The restaurants were basic..the only thing i enjoyed was the pizza. Normally i enjoy all restaurants, but not this go round. The food selection sucked. Oh yeah guys burger was absolutely amazing..including the ice cream was perfect. Customer service was also pretty good. Shows could've been better..ship very small..meaning its not alot to do on sea days besides sleep or casino activities. Maybe a couple raffles here & there. The entertainment was okay for the most part, I've experienced better on other ships. The ship on the 6th day was unbearable because of the rocking of the ship..alot of sea sickness. The biggest upset on my end was the buffet on lido deck. It was awful. Everyone taste bud is different and to each it's own. But i definitely didn't enjoy the food. So that was disappointing because i love trying new thing. Definitely in need of an upgrade. They don't even have "The wok" nor Italian restaurant Read Less

This was a last minute booking. I booked on Sep 12th around noon and got in the car to drive South. We like sailing at of Jacksonville as it is not to hateful of a drive from Ohio. We were just looking for a quick get away and Carnival Ecstasy did not disappoint. Since we booked so late, our check in time was 1:30PM however, we showed up early on the of chance they were ahead of schedule. We were on the ship around 12:30. Fifteen minutes from the time we parked till we got up on the Lido deck. The ship is showing her age but she is slated for dry dock on October which I expect consist of a good paint job and new décor. We will find out as we are booked on the Ecstasy in November. We had a port hole cabin on the main deck. The room was extra deep based on its location. The room was very clean. For the most part, we ate only on the Lido deck, Bonsai Sushi express or room service. We looked at the dining room menus through the cruise and everything sounded good. I only packed shorts, so we did not go in for dinner. I know that you can but cruise casual to me is at least a golf shirt and pants. Its not difficult and I will they would at the very least enforce the current code even though its to lax. The cruise director Cam and the Fun Squad were very good. Everything we saw, we enjoyed. DJ Spike was one of the better ones that we have seen in a while. The dancers were really good and you could see their practice paid off. This was our first time to Princess Cay. I still prefer Half Moon. While the beach is very pretty, they cram a lot of beach chairs in the various coves so it is hard to get away if you are looking to truly relax. We would definitely go again though. We didn't spend much time in Nassau. I was not feeling great so we just walked around for a few hours Read Less

We chose this cruise as it suited our time frame and the price was extremely fair. I was however nervous a couple of days prior to departure after reading some terrible reviews. Embarking went fantastic very quick and efficient the appointment times work so there is no wait to get onboard and begin the vacation. First impressions were staff very friendly and welcoming love the new designs in the lobby atrium very welcoming and feels very roomy. Straight up onto the lido deck we went to check it out. It was extremely busy as you can imagine as everyone was enjoying the bar and ample types of foods. Mikey from the entertainment was absolutely phenomenal I’ve never laughed so hard and right from the beginning I knew this was going to be a good one. We were able to access our cabins at 1:30pm which was awesome so we could get ourselves situated before we set sail. We stay in cabin aft 6439 balcony the room design was awesome and more than enough closets 3 in total full length mirror on inside of one of the doors. In the bureau there was ample drawers 6 in total. With a built in desk and another great mirror. And shelves built around it. The cabin was fabulous no complaints whatsoever about the cleanliness and the bathroom is actually bigger with a decent amount of counter space on the vanity along with 6 shelves. Love the water temperature adjuster huge thumbs up on this. Deck party phenomenal all the Entertainment was fabulous there was so much to do never a minute to become bored. Serenity was amazing we even found ourselves falling asleep with the tranquil music that was being played and the chaises made for 2 so comfortable. Dining room very efficient we were welcomed each evening no problems with service or food all excellent. I would highly recommend a night at the Fahrenheit steakhouse the food was amazing. All in all no complaints at all only praise. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we already booked for next year but this time instead of the 4 day we are doing 8 loved it Read Less

Cruise: Carnival Valor, 2019-09-09, from New Orleans Summary: not quite a five star cruise, let's call it four and a half. The good things were great, while the worst were merely mediocre. Us: 60+ retired folks who cruise often. We like New Orleans because it's a day's drive from home. We've been to Cozumel and Progreso many times, and plan to go again. Pre-cruise: we enjoy French Quarter night life - but it was 95 degrees after dark, so a quick walk was all we did. Our hosts at the 1870 Banana Courtyard B&B (in the French Quarter) say most music is now on Frenchman Street; we didn't get there. Most unfortunate, the Banana Courtyard has sold, and may not reopen as a B&B. Embarkation: wanted to try Cafe Du Monde, but could not find parking and so went to the ship a little early. Lots of people were there even earlier. Check-in times would have been a better idea if they had actually used them. But the lines moved quickly. The Valor is beautiful, very clean and polished. Only saw one grungy strip of rubber on the ship (I don't understand the complaints from other reviews.) We had an ocean-view cabin, mid ship on deck 1, which is a wonderful location. Fellow cruisers: every age. Most parents of young children seemed to have left them with grandparents, and teenagers were in school (I guess.) This was a mid-westerner's cruise. We found a lot of people who wanted to chat. Age didn't matter, we seemed to have many things in common with almost everyone we met. Nobody even mentioned politics! Highly recommended: the adults-only Serenity area. It's a three floor hike to two large hot-tubs. CruiseCritic thinks it is strange that the children's 3-story slide starts near Serenity, but there was never a problem; I think they looked at the deck layout on the computer and didn't actually walk up to Serenity. The very few children on the ship had no desire to invade an adults-only place. Even the rowdy 20 somethings seemed to prefer the (no kids) aft pool. Be sure not to miss: the eight hour river cruise from New Orleans to the Gulf of Mexico. See it from a Serenity hot-tub. Foodie warning: foodies won't like this ship. In the dining room the food is usually decent, but sometimes a little less than appetizing. My waiter made good suggestions on food, which I often ignored. The barbecue place had tasteless food; Guy's burgers were mundane at best. Except the chocolate buffet and the Mongolian buffet, the rest of the buffets were pretty mediocre. I got an amazingly good rib steak at the sea-day brunch, but otherwise brunch was disappointing - no juice, no pastries, and my wife wants me to mention that there was no bran cereal. Entertainment: the singers, dancers, and the band were excellent. I really enjoyed Sal the steel drum player. Comedians were plenty funny, especially the late shows. Too many acts for a short cruise - wish I'd had time to see more. Off-ship: cooking class in Cozumel was a lot of fun - recommended. Shrimp cocktail in Progreso beach restaurant - loved it. $9.00 private tour of Progreso was better than most $50 ship tours. Shopped at the Viva Mexico shop in Cozumel. Casino: thick plumes of smoke mark the spot. The odor told me to leave before losing any money. Guess I should be happy about that. My snark - Carnival figures smokers are natural-born losers, and they want nobody else in the casino. Dive-in movies: the Valor seems to have been designed for outdoor movies. Only problem was when it started to rain - now I may never know how Bohemian Rhapsody ended. Staff: almost everyone was very friendly. A little surprised to see so few ship officers on deck; I think this indicates that the staff members are well trained. Complaint: cruise director Kevin did way too many announcements. His voice is unfortunately grating on the intercom, and he's way too excited about boring stuff. I didn't see him on any of his shows, but my wife says he is not so bad in person. Carnival Hub cell phone app: nice to have. Sometimes the Fun Times newsletter (which I rate as a waste of paper) fails to mention things, but the Hub showed them. Some people told me the texting feature doesn't work reliably. The bad about the app - I like to leave billfold and phone in the safe; my suggestion (if you are listening, Carnival) is a ship card that displays a calendar of events. Debarkation: in the car and leaving the garage by 7:30. Never expected to be home Saturday evening. One couple from Chicago was staying on the Valor for another identical cruise. Their reason - maximum cruising with minimum driving. Good idea. I might consider driving from New Orleans to Mobile or Galveston for the same reason, but with a slightly different second cruise. We chose this ship because it sailed from Port Canaveral (Orlando) to Bermuda. That was the ONLY reason. My previous experience with Carnival was "lowest common denominator". I've been on about 20 cruises with Norwegian, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. Here are my "positive" notes: (1) fastest ever embarkation, (2) arrived at cabin 1:30PM with luggage waiting, (3) lifeboat drill used fast ship-card check in, (4) good quality balcony & deck furniture, (5) beach towels supplied in cabin, (6) cabin well lit (no struggle to read in bed), (7) excellent cake station in buffet - custom cut for you. Previous reviews have criticized the food as bland and uninteresting (and somewhere I've seen Carnival allude to their "hamburger and fried chicken" loving passengers. So I carried a bottle of Herbes de Provence which was unused after the 2nd day. We found the dinner menu quite adequate, imaginative and comparable to other cruise lines. While the Melting Chocolate Cake was the star of the dessert menu, there were other tasty selections such as a nicely done creme brulee. I was a bit disappointed in their preparation of mushrooms. We liked the layout of the buffet - relatively small "rooms" with buffet and nearby tables. No walking 50 yards around all the stations, then trying to find your seatmates. The first night we went late to the show, sat near the starboard door, something wet was dripping on my head and my partner was shivering. We left. During a talk by ship managers, a passenger remarked on the small number of Carnival shows ("on every ship"), and she would like to see more variety (as a frequent Carnival guest). The ship acknowledged the complaint, stated a new show is in the works, they are expensive to produce, and the existing ones have new personnel that bring a new look to an old show. The production shows are a big reason I cruise, so I'm not in a hurry to sail with Carnival again to see the same old thing. The band Sea Squared (if I have that right) was very good. We were particularly impressed with a string trio performing on the central stairway. A lot of talent (of course), with excellent variety., Definitely not "lowest common denominator". They were great. Debarkation went very well. We had to wait about 15 minutes with luggage in hand because the terminal got backed up. Absolutely no problem getting on elevators. We are happy! My wife's birthday was on the 12 of September. Bermuda was her first choice and Charleston was an easy commute from our home in NC. It was to be my birthday present to her. Once on board we were met by the "happiest and friendliest" crew compared to all our previous 13 plus cruises. While the Sunshine did show some "bumps and bruises" showing her age; the crew definitely made up for it. We all thought their most positive attitude stemmed from the top: Captain Lorenzo. To quote a familiar military phrase, " he leads from the front." His pleasing personality was always on display. Most significantly to this writer was the effort he and "Freddie," the head of Guest Services went to on my wife special day : having her picture taken with the Captain, Champagne at the dining table, special birthday cake, singing Happy Birthday by the Matte D's and personal appearance by the Captain and Freddie to wish her a Happy Birthday. My wife's reaction is hard to put into words but she did say at the time, "this will be remembered as the most special birthday and one I will remember the rest of my life." I think besides my wife's misty reaction - all in attendence also got a little moist around the eyes. The rest of the cruise was a very happy experience with the ever present greeting from every crew person, "Good morning or Day" with those broad smiles. To sum up this review, "we just finished a cruise with the happiest crew in the Carnival fleet." Read Less

Room and ship was clean, everything worked fine. Easy on and off at Galveston - no issues. It was our anniversary and we were treated well for it. Steakhouse was great, worth the extra cost. Food overall was good to very good. Could use more variety though. Eat in the MDR and let them serve you. You're on vacation, no need to line up for food. We ate all breakfasts and dinners in the MDR. Cozumel was great as always. Progresso is rough around the edges for sure but we enjoyed getting off the ship and exploring a little. Be realistic with your expectations. It's a Carnival ship, not the Queen Mary. Don't sweat the small stuff - enjoy your vacation. We certainly did!! Read Less

We enjoyed cruising on the Pride. Leaving from Baltimore is a plus. Only a 30 minute drive from home. Check in was a breeze, they had a good system that was quick. Slowed down to take a picture for memories. Boarded ship nlt 1pm and room was ready by 2pm. Met our stateroom steward, Tegum. He kept our room tidy and requests handled in a timely manner. This was our fifth time on the Pride. Our first stop was to Guy's Burger and we were not disappointed. The burgers are juicy, the extras are plentiful and the fries are just as delicious. Menu in dining room was okay, but we did try the sushi bar (the boat for Two) was more than enough, especially with soup and salad and a drink. We celebrated my birthday and Teguh surprised me with discounts for Spa and tours. We had an obstructed view balcony. Dr E, the Cruise Director was very entertaining and the highlight of the cruise. Itinerary was changed due to Dorian. We stopped at Amber Cove. The port had a variety of stores, restaurants, activities and beaches. The people were very nice and the port offered free wifi. We look forward to returning to Amber Cove in the future. Read Less

First time and we wanted to go to Jamaica, Grand Caymon, and Cozumel. Trip was diverted to the Bahamas due to Dorian, but Cookie, the cruise director, made the trip. He was witty, funny, and brought great energy to every event. We are still quoting him days after the trip and always looked forward to his announcements. If we book again, we will actually try to book one with him. The comic, Macio was for real funny. Best comedy I’ve ever heard. Activities were amazing and the excursion was fun. We did the stingray experience but would have done the dolphin swim if it would have been available. It looked amazing to watch others swim with the dolphins. Leo was a lot of fun too and a good host and comic. The swimming pools were a little crowded but expected. Would have stayed at the Havana area for the private pool if it would have been available. Spa tour seemed a little pushy and I’ve had treatments before and those were expensive and the benefit claims were a little exaggerated. Overall, great cruise and experience. Read Less

Our cruise experience was doomed from the start. About a week before our cruise hurricane Dorian started forming. As our sale date approached we kept a close eye on the projected path and Carnival‘s website. As it became clear that hurricane Dorian was going to affect the Bahamas we regularly checked in to make sure that our sailing was still happening and we were going to be going to our ports. Our first day on board was relatively OK. We had clear skies and the lunch buffet was actually really good. That’s the only positive statement I have for the entire cruise. Dinner time rolls around and the dining room was horrible. The bread was under baked . Both my steak and their signature dessert (melting cake)was over cooked. The first night the boat was extremely rough. I had hoped that that would be the only rough seas we would experience. Day two was a day at sea. About halfway through the day the captain comes on and informs us that we were not going to make it to princess Cay and that the port will be substituted with a trip to Key West for a half a day. Key West was OK but definitely not the Bahamas. I had hoped to find a beach only to find out that Key West does not offer beaches. While in Key West my sister calls me and informs me that the Carnival corporate website has updated stating that our trip to Nassau for the next day has now been canceled. We went to the service desk and asked what port we would be going to instead of Nassau. Mind you Nassau was the whole reason we booked this cruise. Absolutely love going to Aquaventure at Atlantis. So we were very disappointed to find out that we were not gonna make it to Atlantis. The service desk denied that the port had been canceled and told us that they couldn’t speak to what their corporate website said. They lied to us. As the ship pulled away from Key West the captain came on and informed us that our trip to Nassau had been canceled and no other ports were available so we were going to be getting a third day at sea. I booked a cruise to the Bahamas ! Not a cruise to float at sea for four days and get a half day in Key West. On top of being stuck on that boat our captain insisted on finding every possible patch of rough seas possible. I couldn’t sleep at night because the boat was rocking so bad. Pool lost half of its water from spilling over hitting waves. And the Lido deck buffet we sat there and watch plates fly across the floor. On our final day at sea the captain informed us that there was a chance we would not be able to return to Jaxport on Thursday. The plan initially was to spend an extra day at sea until the port reopened. Dinner time on our last night at sea the captain comes on to inform us that we will be docking in Port Canaveral and receiving shuttle bus rides back to Jacksonville. It’s really sad when we arrived at port Canaveral customs and border protection waived us on through saying we didn’t take a cruise to anywhere so we did not have to declare anything. Our cruise director found it funny to joke about how we were on a cruise to somewhere but he didn’t know where. Carnival really let us down. They should have canceled our sailing knowing that they were not going to be enough ports available to substitute adequately. But they wanted their money. To add insult to injury the whole reason they docked us in Port Canaveral was so that they wouldn’t have to delay their next sailing. I called the customer service line after we got home and they refused offer us any compensation. I always knew in the contract that they could change ports but I never expected them to treat us so poorly. So our beautiful beach vacation to the Bahamas turned into a week of rough seas, never seeing a beach, and never putting on our bathing suits. We took a cruise nowhere and didn’t even make it back to our original destination. At this point I will never cruise with Carnival again. Read Less

We chose Carnival because it was budget friendly! It was my husband, myself and our 2 year old and 6 other family members. Went onto the ship with such hesitation as everyone seemed to have terrible things to say about Carnival and I can tell you none of them were true. Our steward Yoga was incredibly kind and thorough. The entertainment staff Adele and Lee made us feel like family and always at home and we were hugging them when we left the ship, they were fun, upbeat, kind and caring! The entertainment was phenomenal. The Cruise Director Mat was incredible, he has the best attitude and is so good at what he does as is everyone else. Cristian and Lauren who both do bar waiting we incredible they are such nice people and made us feel at home. But Tommy the head waiter in the Renoir Dining Room was absolutely incredible! When I say personable and kind I genuinely mean he made us feel so welcomed and we requested him every single night. We had a chaotic family of 9 and he and his team we wonderful. My daughter was looking for him every single day as we walked the ship and the last night she gave him a hug and we all took pictures. He knew every single one of us by name and I hope we get to see him and the others again next cruise, that goes for all the staff. Everyone from housekeeping to fun squad was great. By the end of the cruise we felt like a family on the ship! The only con is the added extras you pay for and they can get pricey but I would do it all over again. We chose this cruise because of the close proximity to Long Beach. Plus it was my birthday and did not have to fly anywhere. I read a previous review about calling the cruise a Wal-Mart cruise. It was every bit of that review and more. The ship was over run with young screaming kids. One fellow passenger asked a father of a screaming child to control the child. The father wanted to fight this passenger an elderly man. We sat in the dining room and after a party had left the table the personnel sorted through the silverware that looked unused and reset the table. Even the same coffee cups! At the formal dinner the place setting only had one fork. No salad fork. On other cruise lines there were several more utensils for appropriate usage. Last evening we sat in the buffet area and the bussing staff was no where to be found. Counted 12 plus tables with dishes that had not been cleared off for over 30 minutes. The dress code was not enforced at the main dining room.. People in shorts tank tops and hats on backwards. Stayed in a suite that had an outdoor balcony. The room was spacious and clean. The run frog bar has an amazing knowledgeable bar tender by the name of Spartan. He is the best ! The crew was friendly throughout the ship. The crew director, Savannah is totally annoying with her barrage of annoucements. she finishes each announcement with , "Say bye!" That has to go! 4 days is long enough. I guess if you advertise a low price you get what you get. Next time will be an adults only cruise! Read Less

Getting on the boat was a breeze! I am blown away by the service that we received while on board. Our servers in the restaurant were absolutely amazing. They called us by name every time they addressed us; they pulled out my chair for me; and I loved the dancing. Putu Agus was our lead server. He was awesome! So friendly and funny! There was plenty to do each day, and the drink package was well worth it. The drinks were delicious, and the bartenders were quick and always smiling. In fact, I never saw a single team member who was not smiling. Fellipe, the cruise director, was also wonderful. He was so full of “energy”, as he would say. I was always glad to see him hop on stage at the different events. Our room was a lot bigger than I expected. Wir did an excellent job at keeping our room tidy and checking in on us. There was also a ton of room for storage. He also did a great job with the towel animals! I loved seeing those each day! Getting on and off the boat was easy, yet still secure. The shops were nice, the casino had plenty of room, and the boat never felt crowded. I love that they had adult-only areas. It was a nice spot for people without kids. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this ship. It was lively, entertaining, spacious, and the service still blows my mind. Read Less

Enjoyed this ship overall. One of the best casinos/dealers I’ve experienced although the drink service there was virtually non-existent. Pools need to be refurbished. Cabin was in excellent shape for an older ship. Tampa was one of the smoothest embarkations ever. Did not care for the entertainment on board. Never found a singer or band that knocked my socks off. If you want a ship for the tall water slides & fancy amenities, it may not be for you. If you like a good casino with plenty of tables & machines or you like the nightlife bar scene, this is a good option. Mahogany Bay & Cayman are really nice ports. If you go to Mahogony Bay, go to the far right side of the beach (nearest the ocean) - fantastic keyboard player that sounds like Ray Charles. He made our day. Our cruise was cut short due to hurricane Dorian. A lot of people on board were very upset that we skipped our last port and headed to Tampa. I believe Carnival made the right decision and I appreciate the way it was handled by refunding 1 day including all prepaid options we made. They can’t control the weather and cannot predict when & where a storm will go. Cmon people !!! We got home safe. Read Less

My husband and I chose Carnival for our honeymoon cruise. This was my 5th cruise with Carnival. After this one, we most likely won’t choose it again. The worst part was other passengers who were loud and obnoxious. No class! Kids running all over the ship unattended by parents all hours of the day and night. People going into dining areas dripping wet from pool and no shoes. Staff never said a word to them. Plates of food left on the stairs constantly. People walking around with portable radios turned way up. Carnival’s line of standards has seriously dropped. We filled out our survey. Haven’t heard a word back and don’t expect too. We have friends who have been on recent CCL ships with same experiences. So this is a new common trend across the board. Beware before you book. All they care about is getting your money. Not the experience you had on the ship or else they would address the issues happening on the ships. Read Less
