We got quite a bumpy start,,, our first stop in Alaska before heading to Japan was cancelled. I was really looking foward to see the inside passage and Ketchikan. That stop has been replaced by a stop at Victoria, beautifull city. We did an unplaned 12 hrs pit stop for fuel??? at Dutch Harbor in the Aleutians with interdiction to go ashore, grrr. Having been away from Alaska since 2018, we were excited to travel north aboard CROWN princess for an 11-night adventure. We last sailed on CROWN to the Caribbean in 2018. This was our third attempt to do this with Celebrity...COVIDS caused the cruise to be canceled year after year. We lifted and shifted our reservations, with Celebrity being quite amenable after a bit of balking. My first time on a cruise. Booked in April, 2023. Two weeks before we are about to start our one-week land tour, RC had to cancel the 9-1 sail due to "propulsion issues". We thoroughly enjoyed our Alaskan cruise on the Crown Princess. The Crown has a promenade deck which allows you to walk around the whole ship. The Crown Princess is an older ship but well maintained and clean. Our stateroom was a Vista Suite aft on the Dolphin deck. The food was amazing. We are loyal Princess Cruise passengers, and this was our tenth cruise with Princess, first trip on the Crown Princess. While Alaska was absolutely amazing, we were really disappointed with the experience on the ship. Never cruised with Norweigian before and we kept an opened mind. The steak is a good bet and in general the food onboard was ok. In the Bar and Grill the chicken was under cooked and don't expect the usual Buffalo sauce. This was sweet and thin. Starbucks ran out of dark roast coffee on the 4th day! The Nieuw Amsterdam seems a little dated compared to the Koningsdam and other Pinnacle class ships. We were very pleased with our Verandah cabin and the MDR and Lido food was better than on a recent cruise on the Koningsdam.
