This was our first Holland America cruise.
REASONS TO PICK THIS CRUISE:
* We picked this specific cruise because the itinerary was midweek to midweek rather than weekend to weekend like most Alaska cruises. This meant the ports were less packed.
* We also wanted a smaller ship with fewer people. The passenger capacity for the Volendam is only about 1400 people.

This trip was all about the 33 ports and Antarctica. HAL is recovering from COVID like everyone but they seem to expect pre COVID world to return. Nice if incompetent staff. Because of this cruise, I am no longer feeling the love I used to feel as a 3 star mariner on HAL. We had a very spacious cabin 2555, but in the 16 days we were in it, the air conditioning never worked and the toilet never flushed properly. Chose this cruise as it seemed to be one of the few to visit Glacier Bay. With climate change we found the glaciers disappointing especially after seeing the ones in Argentina.
The Volendam is a small ship and we were again disappointed by the entertainment, it wasn't a patch on larger ships ( as you might expect), but was outshone by Fred Olsen which is a similar size.

Seven day Alaska cruise, is easy for us, no flying
It was for our 55th anniversary. HAL screwed up the delivery of flowers for my wife, they never showed up, had to go to service desk, to straighten it out. Finally got them.
